  1. That's great Andrew. By the way have you heard of the Canon EOS R? I've been trying it all weekend and it's just fantastic!

  2. It's been noticed in the back-end of the site that some new users are joining in order to future the agendas of PR and marketing at some companies. It's a tricky area for me to deal with, but I'll get some advice on how to better detect it and prevent it from happening in the future. Whilst I know it is happening, the evidence as to what exact company is responsible for which posts isn't solid enough yet to go naming them. But rest assured if I do find out, they will be named and shamed on the front page of EOSHD.

  3. This thread and quite a few others have some really bad taste comments in it which lower the tone of the forum, not just a bit but a lot. And it is almost always you involved @jonpais I will have to decide Jon whether you are still welcome or whether it would be better for the community if you used a different place. You have no idea how tired I am of it. Final warning.

  4. I love the image coming off the C200, but it is a 7500$ camera. The Pocket 4K is a 1000$ cinema camera, with Resolve, a beefy 19mm wide sensor, very nice codecs, TC, mini canon, full HDMI, and it's small and has nice color, latitude and sensitivity. For me, doing mainly fiction work, is a no brainer.

  5. A lot of it is laughably blatant. Whatever happened to subtly and subliminally pushing your brand at people? Anyway, I'm just going to have this cup of coffee and watch this develop with a keen interest.

  8. The vast majority of hobbyists and vloggers will get better results with a GH5/S or XT-3 than the 4K Pocket. Just like the vast majority of them got better results with a GH3, 5D3 etc than the original Pocket and the endless ‘organic retro lut’ grades that abounded with that camera. Although Blackmagic are trying to aim this camera at a broader market that the Ursa 4.6k/Pro, I don’t think it is the right solution for people who don’t use Davinci in their workflow. BM have tried to simplify things for users with the Gen4 colour science but they overestimate the average person’s interest in correctly white balancing (even in post), using more than one node, appropriate lift/gamma/gain and selective sharpening etc. The fact that this camera has a much higher quality ceiling than everything else under $3k doesn’t mean it will play out that way in most situations. It is in that tricky space between being able to cut seamlessly with an ARRI or Ursa Mini Pro(which looks fantastic with Gen4 colour) and looking potentially worse than consumer cams.

  12. Yeah the original Pocket camera is a Very special camera. I see little of it in this new one. but time will tell. I don't think other than some 9000 dollar camera anything can beat the original one. They are that good if you have the skill. And in reality it wasn't that hard to do. There is LOTS of good stuff from them on the web.

  13. I had a go at the EOS R today. Took a while to wrap my head around it and get it fully setup the way I liked but was a happy camper after that. I'm happy to report the 1080p is a lot sharper then 5D3/5D4 (almost C100 sharp) especially with the awesome RF lenses (the 50mm 1.2 RF is crazy btw). 4K has poor RS.. but the ALL-I codec produces pretty thick quality files with nice motion. C-log looks really good too (with classic EOS cinema & C200 color matrix options). Movie IS coupled to the bi-directional lens IS was really steady. Stuck my 35mm 1.4L via adapter and was pretty much close to native performance.. All in all i'm pretty pleased/impressed by the camera (despite its obvious limitations) and look forward to trying it out further once I acquire it next week. PS: i'm having trouble reading the 4K MP4 files inside Davinci/FCPX (getting media offline error) anyone know what that's about??

  14. I didn't. He did in his previous post. Anyway, cameras are just tools and by specs I consider the Pocket a capable cine camera that can do things the C200 can't.

  15. True. I wouldn't buy a C200 with the price of half-dozen Pockets... LOL : -)

  18. It makes sense that Panasonic has introduced FF mirrorless cameras now - Get in on the FF game now before Canon and Nikon mirrorless systems are established. I've been a fan of Canon film cameras since 1975, and still have A and F series cameras, but I bought an EOS 10s (film) and never liked the thing. (Too big and bulky.) I never thought Canon digital cameras were the way to go forward, and when the Panasonic G3 came out, that fit my still photographic needs. With m43 you can go small and light, or rig up some monstrous and expensive glass. Pound for pound (money and weight), m43 will get what most people consider excellent photos and video. I see more benefits with m43 format in film making. It is only a 1.3 crop factor from s35 movie film. You can get wide aperture lenses to compensate for depth of field, and you need less light when you do. mFT has the advantage if you do want more depth of field. Try photographing a group from 5 feet away with a 24mm at f2.8 on full frame! It also makes sense for Tony N. to say FF is the way. After all, he's getting paid most of the time when he is lugging around the ton of FF cameras and lenses he uses. By the way, the best image quality I get is with my full frame Cambo 5"x7", but I'm also very happy with my G3, GH3, GH4, GH5, AE-1, FtB, F1, (2x)F1n, Sinar F1, and Graflex cameras.

  19. Got my tracking number from Hot Rod Cameras, shipped today will have it in my hands by 10:30am tomorrow. Illya, Lisa, Dain, Kevin, and Max always come through A1... and once again, I couldn't be happier with their, sale and service!

  20. If Fujifilm can be doing so well with both APS-C and medium format at the same time I am sure Micro Four Thirds can survive full frame, it has done since the start. I once chose the GH1 over the 5D Mark II remember! And I will never part with some of the more unique c-mount lenses, micro four thirds lenses and anamorphic glass - the anamorphic on full frame is, shall we say, more challenging.

  21. Aware of what? Was he convicted of a crime? We are getting into very dangerous territory when all that need happen is a woman claims abuse and everyone is expected to believe each and every word she says whilst totally ignoring comments from the opposing party. From what I can see, if something happened she should have filed charges and they both would have their day in court. Until then it is nothing more than a case of "he said, she said". I'm not defending PB... I don't have any unique information regarding this alleged incident. I'm just sick of this pitch fork mentality. I'm sure some will take exception to what I have written. To them... you can take a long walk off a short pier. I have personally known someone that was falsely accused. Thankfully, there was an investigation and exculpatory evidence proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the supposed victim was full of $h!t. Really? Didn't someone once suggest something unsavory about you? Should we take their comment as fact without proof also? Glass houses my friend.

  22. The new Moza Air 2 is configurable to handle multiple shooting positions. But in a case of true innovation, can also be adapted to provide a full automation solution with the additional of the optional slider accessory. Read more about it here.

  23. And you could get walk around with easy manual focus / peaking with that sweet Nokton 25mm F/0.95 with 5 axis stabilization. I still have some GH2 footage I shot wide open with that lens from 2011 and it holds up pretty well 7 years later. It's not the worst idea I've seen on here and I love the price. Some people shoot things far away....like sports, wildlife. What 300 2.8 amI going to put on my iphone 8 plus and shoot my son playing travel baseball from beyond center field? What 600-1200mm equivalent can I shoot the moon with and get any detail on my phone? No offense, but for YOU perhaps it doesn't make sense, but you don't speak for everyone else. All tiny sensor phones SUCK in low light. So yeah - shooting casual video of things up close and in good light - you may not see that big of a difference. Throw a bright lens on a micro 4/3rds in difficult light and it sings.

    Panasonic Abandoning M43

My 15 1.7, 42.5 1.7 and 25 1.7 combined cost me around the same price as my Zeiss 55mm 1.8, my Sony 70-200 f4 cost the same as my 12-35 and 35-100 2.8 combo, and both of them combined is lighter than a single 70-200 f4 lens! My small camera bag for my m43 kit (I can fit 4 m43 lens and a body) can barely just fit 2 lens on my A73 kit, hence I only travel with m43 and only use FF and GH5s for work, it just too big and heavy for me, and if it got stolen at least it doesn’t cost a lot to replace.

  26. Yeah M43 gets expensive as they have to make those extremely fast lenses to compensate for the sensor. I am more of a fan of APSC. For me M43 only works that well with cameras like the GH5S where you can boost the ISO so you don't need super fast lenses. Not to say the GH5 isn't a great camera but its very limited in low light compared to other bigger sensors of the S.

  27. If Olympus puts PDAF in one of their cheaper cameras, I'll definitely buy it. PDAF combined with their amazing IBIS is a killer combo.

  31. Indeed Someone has done exactly that with an LX100 and it is an applicable hack for all of these cameras. Annoyingly, Olympus do have a smart shoe adapter for their PEN M43 cameras that lets you use an external mic input for about £70 (the kit actually comes with a lav mic as well) but as with Sony and their similar add on for the earlier versions of RX100 they have decided to sign up for the "Lets make them buy the next one up if they want a mic input" treaty with the rest of them. Oddly enough, the smart shoe adapter, like the EVF they do with the same connector, is also compatible with the Leica M so if you ever fancy having better audio when shooting HD video on a rangefinder (and who doesn't) then you can use the Olympus one for a fifth of the price of the Leica branded one.

  33. 2. Use a soldering iron and some wire somewhere within the area shown in red to attach a 3.5mm jack socket to the hole made in step 1. If you choose the wrong place in step 2 then take the item in the blue circle and drag it vigorously across the underneath of the item in the green circle.

  34. I just looked up on You Tube at footage on the mk III and on average it looks no better to me than any modern Smartphone footage, other than maybe low light stuff. Now the video Andrew did was damn good, but he could have damn near done that with his cellphone also. I just don't see it. I'll stay with my iPhone X. Like I said in another thread, I just don't see most m4/3 cameras anymore as a great buy. And I don't know how long this thing has been out, but this is one hell of a Gimbal for a phone. And it is cheap and light. Pretty amazing. I think I will buy one. https://tiffen.com/steadicamvolt/

  35. Thanks @mercer and @webrunner5 Posting your creativity online is always a bit nerve wracking, especially around people that do this stuff for a living! I've worked out that IBIS is the way forward for me. I thought fast primes were always big and heavy (I was extrapolating upwards from my Sigma 18-35 F1.8!) but after seeing a bunch of lovely MFT suitable lenses like the Hellios and the Voitlanders I now realise that they're not heavy enough to stabilise the camera the way a Fujinon Cine 18-55 would, and I couldn't carry that weight all day anyway. And because primes don't have IS, I need IBIS for hand-holding. I suspect there's a GH5 in my future, but we'll wait and see. So I picked up a few cheap m42 lenses to try with my GF3 and see how I go (Hellios 44M, Yashica Yashikor 28mm f2.8). Assuming I like them I'll work out if a G85 or GH5 or whatever is the right fit and fill in the gaps, the Voitlander 10.5mm and 17.5mm 0.95 lenses look absolutely stunning! If Panasonics FF camera is 8K then the price of a used GH5 will plummet and my lens budget will be huge!! ???

  36. Yep, In Their Eyes, the horror flick that's in post now, was shot almost entirely handheld with Sony ibis and the 16-35/2.8. I had the A7iii attached to a dual hand grip bar thing that helped me keep it as steady as I could, especially during movements. The next one is a thriller with a good ol' criminal mastermind/hacker spying on people and will be 85% or so locked-down shots made to look like hidden camera footage, which is why I'm thinking a $500 4k shooter like a gx85 or g85 or (after Andrew's latest) e-m10iii will do the job just fine. Finding an office for the primary location is a much bigger hurdle than deciding on a camera. But in general, I'm a firm believer that the cameras available now are more than good enough for whatever we can dream up in the low-budget indie world. And I haven't even explored BM and ML Canon raw like you have. Don't want to hijack the thread so feel free to holler at me via dm.

  38. @Thomas Hill I love that you’re using these cameras for narratives. Being a writer/director of horror and thriller, I’d love to hear more about what you’re doing. Also, are you shooting handheld with IBIS?

  39. That's actually the Moza Air X. The Air 2 is basically Moza's version of the DJI Ronin-S. But yeah, I'm stoked about the Air X. Seems more versatile to me than the new Zhiyun Crane 3 Lab, so I was surprised to see hardly anyone talking about it while Photokina happened.

  40. Yeah what is the deal with that guy? The other day he resurrected an old thread just to rip into a young wedding videographer he found on youtube over the most minor and unimportant details, talked up his career, told a few people to kiss his arse and promptly disappeared. I know retirement is boring but surely he has more camera tests he can make in all his spare time?

  41. Yeah I am still hoping to get this C100 I ordered. But I am still holding onto my A7s and all the lenses I have for it. It is just so damn convenient to have something that small that can do all that it does. And for what little a A7s body goes for now why bother selling it. Not counting I just paid 255 bucks to get it fixed! I just need to buy that new Atomos Ninja V and be done with it. Help the C100, and have 4k on the A7s. Problems solved.

  43. Is there a difference in optical quality between all these focal reducers mentioned? I don’t want to diminish the IQ of a cinema lens on this body.
