  4. @jase, here's a fast comparison between GH3 and GH4 profiles from FilmConvert applied to GX85 files, in case anyone's interested. Film: Fuji 8543VD Film Color: 80 Curve: 40 Grain: 0 Not that much of a difference but I see less green/magenta shifting with the GH3 profile. GH3 NAT GH3 STD GH4 NAT GH4 STD ORIGINAL

  5. Just got a response from FilmConvert regarding whether they will be doing profiles for the GX85 and G85 ... good news !! Here's their response ... "Hi Dean, thanks for your email - yes to both questions the GX/85 is definitely on our list, we're actually about to survey our users to help set our camera profiling priorities for the next few months, so don't forget to submit your request. The GH4 profile is probably a good first bet. Best Regards The FilmConvert Team www.filmconvert.com"

I'm a big fan of Nikon's video image. Just wish it was a bit sharper and they had focus peaking.. and an EVF.

All shot on the D750 with Nikon Ais (besides a few 120fps NX1 slowmo shots which are easy to pick out) For narrative stuff I'v been using it over my NX1 for awhile.

  9. If the source is right: "The new 12-35mm F2.8 II ASPH. POWER O.I.S. and 35-100mm F2.8 II POWER O.I.S. now have a black finish. They also have new iris mechanisms that are supposed to give smoother aperture transitions when shooting video. One bit of good news for owners of the existing versions of the 12-35 and 35-100 is that those lenses will get a firmware update at some point to make them work with the Dual I.S. 2 system."

  10. He means Dual IS, the IBIS has been confirmed to work with non lumix brand lenses. Luke has stated that he's used a Sigma lens on the GH5.

  11. Yeah screw this talk of making another BMPCC v2.0, just put the BMPCC on another $500 sale again! :-D

  12. Can't really confirm it. The chart is open to interpretation with the yellow shading. The camera is only still in pre-production, nothing is locked down yet. On second glance at the chart it looks like the DCI 4096 x 2160 at 48p is 150Mbit 8bit 4:2:0 if you follow the row and boxing lines, whilst 24p is 10bit 400Mbit

  13. 180fps looks like it does suffer aliasing and moire to quite a severe level but it's great as a creative bonus.... NX1 120fps probably a bit better but that still has aliasing and moire.

  14. Yep, a friend had one & it's exactly as billed - Kowa Prominar 16, can't remember if it's x1.5 or x2, but I do seem to remember that it vignetted on an aps-c sensor with a Helios 44 (58mm). I could be wrong though as it was some time ago. I know that the other Kowa Prominar anamorphics were x1.5. This has always been pretty useful as a resource: http://super8wiki.com/index.php/Anamorphic_Lenses

  16. Well, It looks like denoised noise. Skin becomes more plastic, but you still can see fine details. So 265 is only for stream video: really good looking in low bitrate. As you know h256 was made for delivery content to mobile devices: small size, good IQ. Check this image. Original footage from h265 cameras looks better, but blocking compression do something with overall details Best example of hi bitrate h265fail - Look at the grain and man`s hand (yak)... In original resolution (this images was downscaled) the difference would be more obvious

If anyone happens to feel the need to decompress from the stress of modern life (like me) I've created a little video called "The Meditative Coast" that should hopefully help a little bit. It's on my new "Virtual Cinema" page...give it a try. :-) In the meantime, I've got more free looping tracks ready on my fantasy pages. They are: "Quirky Dreamscape"_Looping http://soundimage.org/fantasy-4/ "Digital Downtown"_Looping "Backstory"_Looping http://soundimage.org/fantasy-5/ "Awkward Princess's Day Out"_Looping "Once Around the Kingdom"_Looping "Some Faraway Place"_Looping "The Princess Haunted"_Looping http://soundimage.org/fantasy-6/ I hope some of them are helpful! 20. Talking about colour science...and claiming Canon is a leader - there are some other opinions too...Three examples: Example 1 I showed in my school 31 colleagues (aged between 17 and 19 years old) a portrait (2 stills) comparison between Canon and Nikon. Same subject, different colour sciences with original colours. 5 of them said they have no preference, 18 prefered the Nikon colours (in their eyes "more realistic") and only 8 prefered the "legendary" Canon skin tones... I showed the same photos 13 aged people (between 55 and 81 years old) and 2 had no preference, 7 loving Nikon colours. Only 4 prefered the Canon colours. Then I tested the same thing (same 2 stills) two weeks later with the same aged persons...And then 3 of them had no preference, 5 were Nikon fans and 5 liking the Canon colours. So, in my eyes, the quintessence is: Colours are absolutely a matter of taste, sometimes depending on a momentary mood of audience. The same person "loving" now Nikon colours, could prefer a week later Canon colours. Example 2 Last summer I shot 2 weddings as second shooter (with a 5Dm iii) to get more experience in real world portrait, event and low light photography. The pro wedding photographer (first shooter) used a Nikon D3S and a D7100 as second camera. After taking a look to the Nikon photos, they (bride, groom and some friends) took a look at some of my photos (original Canon profile)...Most of them said skin tones were "too warmish" / "unrealistic". Example 3 I showed 14 colleagues (17-19 years old) on a larger tablet one of the legendary "cinematic look" examples, hailed by thousands filmmaking enthusiasts. Only 1 loved the colour science, 3 gave a shrug and the other persons were downright shocked, asking if these were film sequences from the 70's. After telling them, that the footage was shot and edited 2009+, they asked, if the DOP was on steroids...some of them even saying, "the man is a miserable failure" needing to be fired... I am aware of the fact that my experience might not be representative, but there is a bit of truth therein. Most average Joes (= "non digital imaging" freaks) don't even care about colour science, it's only a obsession for geeks, enthusiasts and some pixel peepers putting their nose 10cm close to a HR computer screen. Completely irrelevant for 99,9 percent of audience...

  21. @Jn- I have installed the firmware update 1.3 on my older 12-35 yesterday and this is what the Panasonic download Website http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/fts/index2.html wrote about this Firmware update: Update Contents for H-HS12035 Improvements Date/VersionDescription 2015/08/05 Ver. 1.3Dual I.S.( Image Stabilizer ) is available by this firmware update. (in case of the usage of Camera with this function) * Dual I.S.:Innovative Handshake Correction System by the ideal combination of lens I.S and Body I.S. I hope that helps. I dod not find it for the first 14-140 or the 100-300

  24. Best auto-focus I've used and it makes a difference when shooting with my 85mm f/1.2L II.

  25. Thank you, jonpais. The 30 mm looks very sharp indeed (some tolerable moire, the guy with the red relax-cap). It appears to have the same nice focus ring as the 18-35. And it has a very good FoV. Used the 18-35 mm speedboosted on my Pocket almost exclusively @35mm, which equalled a 50mm FF. Imo the advantage of a gimbal over a steadicam is that you don't need to go very wide, making your shots look like GoPro. Now I could adapt the 18-35 mm with a normal adapter also (this is not so much about the weight, I have the Ronin M), particularly if you say that CAF won't work for this kind of shot, but I see that the 30mm was indeed a very good option.

  29. The difference is in the ability of the lens drive, not the body. The older lenses will still have dual IS mk1. Why on earth would you think otherwise? http://shop.panasonic.com/dual-is

  31. Actually I wasn't referring to her being in every shot (and making every shot consequently that much better) but simply that Bondini regarding "Neumann Films" as just a man is actually the sexist part, not Panasonic. It jumps on the SJW train and disrespects both the quality of work involved in all the promos, and the actual people involved (like M)

  33. I said "if the source is right" because right now we got some information here and there from various media or people who got the info by some rep somewhere, etc. Plus the article mentions "those lenses will get a firmware update at some point". So I'll just wait and see until we have solid conformation from Panasonic.

  39. Scorsese said cinema's now officially dead. May as well be a theme park ride. Event a good director can't save the system... Duncan Jones on Warcraft. Peter Jackson on The Hobbit Part 10. Looking to Netflix to save cinema... They have picked up the Blade Runner style sci-fi shot by Bowie's son Duncan Jones, set in Berlin in 2050 called Mute. And more stuff good coming out soon. As for 2016... I am voting 5D Mark IV!

  43. The levels comparing the two cameras are clearly off in the video. Here is an image with two more or less similar frames (Olympus is left, Sony is right) after the levels are corrected: Neither frame has crushed blacks! If look at the negatives and expand the blacks a little, there isn't much of a difference:
