  2. Oh for Hobby. I am 71 years old. I retired a long time ago. I want nothing to do that involves work anymore LoL. Did that stuff for over 50 years. Thank god for legal drugs, ehh prescriptions. I had a Panasonic AF100A and really sort of regretted selling it. Hard to not have a Cine camera for the convenience.they offer. I have worked with, and owned a lot of ENG cameras years ago. My A7s is really nice, but not great for my big hands. I am more of a tripod guy anyhow. Running n Gunning Ain't in my vocabulary anymore! If i tried flying with a Gimbal I would fly alright, right off some cliff probably.

  5. One thing that most don't understand is that those supposed cheap (performance) because they are 1.8 but costly for the 1.8 are nothing like 1.8 primes before them which have always been the entry level more affordable primes to the top of the line 1.4 -1.2. These primes are exceptional wide open like in those test https://nikonrumors.com/2018/09/19/more-nikon-z7-camera-reviews.aspx/ At ISO 64, the Z7 captures 2822 line pairs per picture height (LP/PH), 103 percent of the theoretical maximum. In comparison, the Nikon D850 captured 2591 LP/PH at ISO 64 – 94 percent of the theoretical maximum. While Nikon has been clamoring from the get go that its new mount and S line where top of the line, all those youtubers and their 5 minutes attention span followers have been dishing them a some kind of cheap 1.8 shit that Nikon was overpricing. In fact,if right now I had no big lens investment, I would look a lot a Nikon Z mount, because this clearly is a look at the future. With the optical performance of the S-line from the kit zoom to their 1.8 primes being that good, I can be very confident in the future of the z mount lens. Now when you add that they are silent and zero breathing, with what is looking at super IBIS with the large mount, I would say that the master stroke of this launch, is not the very good z7 and hopefully z6 that Nikon has launch, but the Zmount. Sony and I guess Panasonic will struggle in the long run against Nikon and Canon with their larger mount. I am curious to know where did you see that the Nikon has 1 or 2 stop better DR than Sony?

Scary stuff. Glad you got it sorted. I was a victim of something mysteriously draining my bank account recently myself and here I am on my to tell my wife that our account must have been hacked.

  7. I looked at a FS5 M ii ... old sensor pretty noisy at higher ISOs ... add an external Raw recorder and might work until the new M III shows up. Have had the Z 7 for a couple of days ... was able to get a bit of time with it this afternoon. Nothing special ... just looking at color from the N Log. The following is shot at 3200 ISO ... very dark rainy day ... no noise reduction ... I will take the haptics, size, color and weather sealing over the Sny any day. Not as robust as my Leica SL but I look forward to adapting my R and L lenses to this camera. https://vimeo.com/294245506 Password : daysend Yes I love blacks to be black ... and colors to match what I see in nature ... so not cinematic ... no teal and brown. So it may not be awesome ... but I have seen much worse.

  11. Added link in original post! Here's a quick grade of the ProRes. Grades super smooth, as expected. Love how it handles details and highlights. This footage is like kindergarten level compared to grading the OG BMPCC's prores (meaning this is so smooth and easy). And I don't like adding sharpness (midtone details) or the like. All luma curve, some temp and tint change, and hue.

  13. This video I think is the highest production value that I have seen. What I like about Nikon colours is that they are normal, you can just apply a little contrast and saturation and they are good to go. If you want the more aggressive yellow and teal look you also can, but at least if you want some normal colours you don't have to tweak or apply all knind of lut. This one is as natural as can be.

    Sony A6500 Question

If a lack of 4K is not a deal breaker for you (maaaaaaaybe? You're shooting with a FS5 after all, not a FS7 which is what I'd go with if 4K was really important) then perhaps consider even the a6000 which is dirt cheap but shoots nice 1080 XAVC-S (better actually than the a6500/a6300!). Or even the a7Smk1 is cheap on eBay now (and if you've got a recorder already, you'll have your 4K as a bonus).

  17. hi pals just wanted yall to know that i found a pretty good solution... so my short looks ok on youtube now ive found that there is no way around some horrid banding on dark gradients when uploading 1080p, which is NOT converted to vp9 on upload... but SOME 1080p videos absolutely are vp9, ones with lots of views. so, i dont know how to get that to happen, but in lieu of that... uploading in 4k more or less solves this problem. i mean, there's still issues, but its a dramatic improvement. i experimented with adding noise, and that didnt seem to help any ALSO, i found that the gamma setting for my resolve timeline was screwing me up: under project settings, resolve had the timeline color space set to Rec.709 Gamma 2.4, i switched it to 2.2 and got a much more accurate interpretation by youtube

  18. oh yeah, sorry if i was unclear, im just saying: the thing you make by yourself with no money is inherently better than the thing someone makes with lots of money and a super talented cast and crew! its more impressive, and will take you farther. it doesnt have to be perfect, either!! on the other thand, if you GET the opportunity to direct Res Dogs, and BLOW IT, youre FUCKED. so... six of one, half dozen the other i guess lol

    Google Pixel 3

The much maligned auteur, Terrance Malick, did a short film for the introduction of the new pixel, showing off the phones motion autofocus abilities. Some interesting features for taking photos I gotta say. They are really pushing computational photography.

    Best 120p camera 2019

It's only ~14% larger volume than the XT3. It's half the weight of the 1dx2. It's the same weight (and smaller volume!) compared to the GH5. It's true the E2 is not a photo/video hybrid with DSLR ergonomics like the others, but it's certainly right in there in terms of cost and size.

  23. They haven't said anything unfortunately, they just showed the films. One person who ordered from cvp really early on told me he hasn't had any updates from them at all, which sounds a bit worrying. I personally haven't ordered yet, will only get it in the new year if I need it for work.

  26. I doubt that the case, it s better to sell a product once at a higher price than having your clients buying something cheaper, plus it create a lot of product on the second hand market that hurt your sales. On top of that I hardly see the regular mirrorless buyer spend 5 to 10k on a system for occasional work , that FS5/FS7 territory. If anything they will be introducing a new segment of product, with a "brain" and extensions. Well C100-200-300-700 users will tell you otherwise, I get paid for shooting MV and fashion stuff mostly and autofocus is very valuable in those situation.

  31. I've had this camera since it came out - had the MK1 and MK2 as well - nice little stills cameras. To be honest - haven't used it much until I discovered the subtle teal/orange look with sunny/cloudy white balance and the filmic -2 sharpness. AWB shifts pretty badly. Agree about the lack of mic input, although I only use this camera for family video. Every camera decision purchase based on mic or headphone input resulted in me rarely using either. Just have to somehow add a micro-muff and I'm set. For more serious filming I'll still reach for the GH5. That said, I've been using V-Log a lot because I hate the GH5 highlight roll-off without V-Log. IMO it's even worse than the GH4. Highlight-roll off on the Oly means I rarely ever see a highlight "puddling" effect where highlights clip along a visible outline. This camera hides it really well - plus I like the image straight out of camera more than the GH5 - somehow the edge detailing is less severe. It's worth having a look at Johnnie Behiri's review over at Cinema 5D - that's what ultimately sold me on this camera. Be aware - you can't save video settings. Otherwise a fun camera.

  36. Interesting video interview of Yosuke Yamane at Photokina on the origin of the S1.. Of note was the part where he says "In developing full frame cameras, we have decided to target professionals in both photography and videography categories". I'm not sure how good the translation on this is, but it's unlikely that it's an error saying that it's targeting professional videographers. He was talking about the ergonomics at the time, but I think it extrapolates. He also spoke about how they've lead the market previously and the culture around their camera development is of new challenges and bringing things to customers that exceeds other companies offerings. Of course, who knows what that really means - 4K RAW, 4K60, 6K, 8K, or if it's just a FF GH5(s), but it's probably a good sign from our point of view about the video specs.

  38. I’ve been messing once again with using my EOSM as a Digital Super 8 camera and I’m pretty happy with the results. For the video below I used the following setup. 6mm f/1.2 Pentax TV lens (paper shim between lens and C mount-EOSM adapter, for infinity focus) Tiffen Digital Diffusion 5 filter (reduces moire artefacts) EOSM with latest ML build 18fps override (exact) 5x zoom 12bit lossless RAW 4:3 aspect 1440 x 1080 i just used the aperture ring for exposure, rather than ND, as it seemed more authentically consumer Super 8. This video has effects applied - FilmConvert’s Super 8 grain; FCPX native “aged film” effect applied very sparingly for jitter and a little dust; a telecine’d Super 8 black frame (keyed over footage). If there is interest, I can post the ungraded footage.

  42. I read a few in-depth reviews of the GF1 where people described it as the perfect travel camera (for stills) and that inspired me to buy my GF3 which I found to be excellent in basically every way. IIRC the GF1 had some kind of unique control configuration allowing you to adjust the important parameters, but they changed it on the updated models for some reason. I ended up with the GF3 in full-auto and most of the time it knew what I wanted and left me to think about being creative instead of being a camera technician. That's the way it should be, and many of my best shots came from it. My GF3 even had a metal body, which was appreciated when I dropped it once onto concrete and it hit the corner just next to the LCD - because it was metal it just dented a bit and everything is fine, if it was plastic I fear the LCD would have been collateral damage!

  43. John Brawley has a Job, just like a 1000 other shooters that do what he does. Sure he knows his stuff. I would hope so, it's his job. He seems like a damn nice, smart guy. Sareesh is a damn smart guy also, really smart guy. Who is right I don't know. But not everyone on here is some dumb ass like you think they are. But if it is true stay here, you will fit right in. Always room for more dumb asses. Hell you might rise to the head dumb ass. You got my vote already. I have heard the the XLR adapter is on a slow boat from China. I hope you don't need it tomorrow.

  44. I suggest you repair to the BMD cinematography forum, and read the discussions initiated by Sareesh, where he betrays astonishing ignorance -- even venturing to lecture BMD staff (Captain Hook), among many others who patiently tried to explain to him the basics, to no effect. Only BMD and your deity of choice know why Sareesh and other bloggers were chosen for advance units. With the exception of the Proav UK footage, from a dealer, which didn't try to do much other than set levels, the grading was pretty terrible, even by amateur standards. Maybe their skill level was deemed to reflect the average Pocket buyer. Alas.

  45. It's worse that that; Wolfcrow is woefully misinformed on basics like log shooting, LUTs, normalization and dual circuit gain. He has no grasp of what the camera requires in post. His reviews should be limited to point and shoots.

  47. Whell, that's my experience with 4K mode on both. (G80 & GH5). No tested 1080p modes. Not a science test, (different lenses and camera operators) but over many live events with low light, we prefer the image of G80. Less noise at hi isos. GH4 is the worst of the those 3!!

  49. I was hoping Andrew would get around to looking at this camera. The thing I immediately liked about the MKIII was the highlight roll-off. I'm not too fussed about DR but more interested in how a camera deals with the highlights. The roll-off is really nice - hardly a hard edge to be seen. Just lovely. I'm also not fussed about the lack of mic input. Many videos end up edited with no natural sound anyway. Sunny and Cloudy white balance give this camera a nice subtle teal orange look. Camera has only 24p, 25p and 30p in UHD 4K. It has 50p and 60p in HD. Compared to GH5 Pros Better highlight roll-off but slightly less dynamic range Cleaner noise in shadows Noise is more organic Less moire and aliasing Cadence somehow seems more cinematic More interesting colours straight out of camera More effective sharpness reduction in camera Smaller body Cons Viewfinder not as good No way to save custom settings AWB sometimes noticeably shifts during recordings
