  1. I'm afraid the only one looking like an idiot is the person who claims to have opened a factory after he got a tour at a plant that has been running for years. Couldn't invent it. Who needs comedians when we have trump?

  2. From John Gruber (Daring Fireball): “This is how Apple chose to unveil the packaging for the Mac Pro — in a poorly-shot overexposed propaganda video by the White House, scored with bombastic music that sounds like it came from an SNL parody of a Michael Bay film. Think about how it feels to work on that team at Apple.” “A low moment in Apple’s proud history, and a sadly iconic moment for Tim Cook. I hope avoiding those tariffs is worth it.” BEAUTIFULLY GRADED! Apple’s latest ad is a brave new direction for the Cupertino tech giant’s brand. To celebrate, I have created the EOSHD Tim Apple LUT. The favoured look of the US President is perfect for factory tour videos or nationalist propaganda. The LUT has a muted, washed, bleached contrast with no life and no joy in it. So if that’s what your scene demands, be sure to use the EOSHD Tim Apple LUT today. Download the Tim Apple LUT (.cube format, free of charge, but at cost to your soul, 100% tested with Final Cut Pro X, Premiere and Resolve) "I Can't wait to see What you guys creates [sic] with this fantastic LUT" - Donald

  3. I am not American, and I think Trump says the strangest things. But, he is arguably the most successful US president of all time. I may not be a Trump fan, but I prefer him over both the Clintons, Obama and many others. Obama getting the Nobel for farting in his dreams was way more shady than anything else. EVER. The US has been heading for a financial collapse for the last few years (since the Dollar Store and Wallmark rise). Now China is literally taking away millions of US jobs and Fortune 500 is inundated with Chinese Companies. Apple would have been relegated to 4th or 5th position in smartphone sales, if the US wasnt doing all the shady stuff it is (to be fair, US Trade and IP Laws have been anything but fair since they were created). Also TikTok and other chinese tech startups are going to be displacing Twitter and Facebook (even though it doesn't do similar things to either) very soon. That's why Google is planning a TikTok ban soon (if it hadn't already). Europe and the US are heading for both economic and cultural collapse. The only question, I guess, is how quickly.

  4. There is a lot to be said about a fast, par-focal, constant aperture zoom lens with a long zoom range. There are some rehoused par-focal versions the sigma 18-35 by Cinematics and GL Optics, which could be an interesting option with a speed booster to act as a prime-zoom lens so to speak. http://www.pchood.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=376

  5. Please don't blame that delusion on Boomers. Many of us created a lot of the things and people that make the world a good place. Some are as succeptible to propganda and poor discernment just as people your age...whatever that age is. Smart piece Andrew. Thinking about that is not thinking.

  8. yeah, the bad half... ? True, but you'd have to ask the Norwegians about that, as they made that decision. The US is heading for cultural collapse?? So says the non-American.

  10. Yes, I agree re. the G80/G85 - that's part of the reason I eventually bought a G9 (the other main reason was 4k60p), on which the 1080p quality is in a different league, really.
    1 point
  11. The used prices for the G85 aren't bad at all. I've seen them go for as low as $425 which is an absolute bargain. I got mine a year and a half ago used for $600 which came with two lenses. Sold the lenses and ended up only paying about $400ish for mine. Such a great camera! I still recommend it today, my only wish was that the 1080p was better. In the US the G85 always had unlimited recording so that wasn't a problem here. V-Log L though was nice, but with the GH5 only about $200 more new the G95 was DOA. Less crop in 4K, 10 Bit, and 4K 60p made the extra $200, even without V-Log L, worth it. I think Panasonic intended for it to become the updated B-cam for the GH5 but circumstances made them lower the G9 and GH5 prices to the point where the G95 really had no market. I hear hardly anyone talking about/using it, which is telling given how many people I knew/know using the G85. It's gonna rank up there for me with the LX100 mark II when it comes to a blunder by Panasonic.

  12. Right?? idk I couldn't find anything online on how to fix it. It's frustrating because in many cases it would be fine but I'm not comfortable using them for anything professional - "Actually I'm sorry, [client], I can't get that shot... my lens doesn't focus far enough." ? I've already got a .64x speed booster and a 50mm 1.4 so it was really the gearing that was the biggest reason I bought the SLR

  14. I too wish the G95 was better! Would have put more pressure on the G85 prices to come down..... (I want one!)

  15. The G90/G95 does have unlimited video record time and V-Log L as standard, and it's a bit smaller and lighter than the G9. But I agree - it's too expensive in comparison to the G9 and GH5 (and almost twice the price of the very capable G80/G85). I can't see many people buying one when they could get a G9 for the same price or a GH5 for only £150 more...(based on current UK street prices).

  17. Yeah, once you're getting in that price territory the difference in price becomes a bit less of an issue, though there are exceptions. I do think though that the versatility of the S1H is a difference maker more than price. Being able to just throw a lens on and start shooting will always be a nice benefit for a camera like the S1H. I'm very glad that I was wrong about Z-Cam though. They're going to be market disrupters and that's a good thing.

    Magic Lantern Raw Video

Not with realtime preview no. I can get correct framing but it will be a little laggy. 2.5K is in my opinion the best mode to use on the EOS M, I'll do a video about it, how to set it up, framing, and the other stuff very soon on YT. If it's not working for you, you can go into the ML Settings and reset ML Configuration to start fresh with ML Settings.

  20. Update I still haven't had much time to use the new SLR Magics (10mm T2.1 and 25mm T0.95 MFT) because I'm in post on a tv doc, but I'm disappointed: In the stills I posted above, I was very happy to have the crazy T stop and get all that light, but upon further use I discovered the 25mm didn't focus to infinity unless stopped down to about 2.0. I'm not talking that it wasn't sharp wide open: it would focus about 25 ft in front of me and that was where the plane was. So I replaced it with a new copy and it's only marginally better. It can go about 40 feet I'd say wide open, and you've gotta stop it down to about 1.6 to get infinity. There's also a noticeable color shift when going wide open vs stopping down even a little bit. Then I figured I should make sure the 10mm doesn't have the same problem and it's a lot harder to tell since it's so wide, but I think it does. Just eyeballing it but it looks like it makes it about 100 ft max when wide open. WHAT? It's a lot harder to tell because overall I'd say it's just not a sharp lens, and we're dealing with a lot more depth of field, but come on it shouldn't have a problem focusing to infinity on a 10mm. So, very disappointed. Guess I'll be returning these. I was excited for the small size but it's not worth it.

  21. Lots of reasons still for the GH5/GH5S, however unlocking the potential in the G9 should put a lot of price pressure on the secondhand market for the GH5/GH5S ? So still good news even for non-G9 buyers

  23. I posed the same question recently, and after my own investigation which involved actually doing this with the short im working on, heres my position on this... the answer is: yes and no YES, transcoding to a higher resolution, higher bitrate, etc, format could benefit your work in post IF youre • doing vfx • sharpening the footage *doing other stuff like that, theres lots of benefits BUT! NO, • you wont get some magic out of this process to get more out of your grade per se. what youre doing with color and exposure isnt gonna have more latitude just bc you make your crappy phone footage prores 444. u kno? thats my take on it, correct me if im wrong guize~!

  24. Just got a cheap GH5 off ebay. $640 shipped, but the dude has no battery and wasn't sure if it works lol. Wish me luck.

  25. What is sold at the concession stand is literally more important than what you're worried about. Filmmakers are usually better off when they stop concentrating on odd details --and instead just move forward with creating something.

  26. A couple of quick screengrabs from a recent Jazz concert I shot. I must say I was super impressed with the GH5 on this one - not only it recorded for 1h30m straight with no issues but it did so on one single battery! Meanwhile Sony shooters that were there kept saying on the voice comms "I need to switch the battery" over and over again ?

  27. This thread has really inspired me to take another look at my lenses. As much as I'd love an S1H or a C200, I'm definitely better off investing that money into lenses, filters, lights and support equipment. I may eventually trade in my Micro for a Z-Cam e2c when more footage comes out from it, but that's really the least of my concerns right now. Great thread, I hope it continues for a while longer.

  28. The thread is sleeping, so I thought about sharing updates after having used the S1 for a month (and the newly announced firmware updates are a good occasion for that !). So I used the S1 during a 1 month arctic journey across northern Swedish mountains and Norway in last September/October. I only took the S1, for photo and video, and brought with me the 24-105 f4 kit lens and the Sigma 14-24 2.8 dg dn (the new one, designed for mirrorless) which I brought 3 weeks before I left home. I wanted to film (not doing time lapse) the northern lights, but we were not very lucky with the intensity of lady aurora, despite one or two explosions in the sky, and the f2.8 aperture of the sigma was not enough. I will soon sell the Sigma and buy a 20 1.4 Sigma art, and maybe wait for the newly announced pana 16-35 f4... (or a used canon 16-35 f4). I was a bit frustrated with longer reach need, because, when I bought the S1, I thought the ex.tele converter worked the same as on Sony (clear zoom if I remember) and on the GH5 and G9. So I did not bring any tele for this trip (despite still having at home a Canon 200 f2.8 L ii prime at that time), hoping to film with the 24-105 at 105mm in apsc mode + exteleconv. Some days before leaving home, I discovered that it does not work in 4k… So on 1 or 2 occasions, to film wildlife or distant landscape, I used 1080, and pixel/pixel mode. I checked the results at home on my computer, and the results are really really awful eheh ! APSC mode is, on the other hand, really good ; so, in the end, I had a little reach on some occasions. I really love the range of the 24-105, and find it very useful. Fot this kind of trip, it is perfect ; maybe the newly announced (yeah, so much "newly announced" today !) Sigma art 24-70 f2.8 dg dn will be better, I'll keep a close eye on it. The Sigma 14-24 f28 dg dn is a wonderful lens for photos, sharp enough for me in the corner, light etc. But the inability to put a vari nd on it was useless for video. I bought it for nighttime auroras filming, but a 20 1.4 + a wide zoom that takes filters will serve me better. I encountered minor bugs : occasionally, when I pressed the review button to check my images, it said "no valid pictures on card". Had to turn off the camera and I could access again my images. I had 1 or 2 freezes (really less than my fujis that used to freeze very very often) too. Ah, and the camera is slooooooooow to operate. Drives me crazy when in a rush ! All in all, it worked very well, even during snow storms and -10°C temperatures, and was covered with ice and used under rain with no problems. The handling and controls are phenomenal, especially in shitty conditions. So far, I only reviewed my footage on my computer since I came back home, and I barely touched the camera again (little time) but I managed to play with some clips. The Vlog shots are gorgeous... really ! I tried to play with them with filmconvert nitrate and varicam profile (I need to try the """newly announced""" ? S1 profiles), and with the varicam luts supplied by panasonic, and I love everything about it : colors, look... I think i prefer the result I obtain by applying Resolve's color space transform to the vlog clip, and then tweaking it to taste. I am still learning and, thus, is a horrible color corrector, but with minor stuff applied, I obtain a really pleasing result. I also filmed a lot with Cine-d and HLG. The former seems to be very good, and the latter... I still did not figure out how to treat it in Resolve eheh. I wish I had more time to learn the camera prior to departure, because I played with the flat profile last week-end, and I really like it too. One thing I instantly noticed is the iso capabilities : amazing ! I sadly found some missed focus shots while reviewing my clips. More than I wanted... I mainly used MF, but with a lot of "AF first then switch to MF", and maybe the struggling AF in low contrast scene + not always easy to check the focus peaking in bad weather conditions + my poor fillmmaking skills are to blame. On the still side, not a lot of things to say : wonderful high iso performance, very flexible files... everything you want from a modern 24mp sensor. A great machine for my use : landscape, documentary, astro photo... Sorry for the very unprofessional review ahah, hope some of you will find something useful. I attach just for the fun an image I took inside the tent, after a short night (I still have to post process my photos). Don't pay attention to the "clean" appearance of the camera... I was always wiping it, as it was often covered with snow and rain ? I will sell my Sigma 14-24 2.8 and, in the future, I will slowly build a kit with a wide angle prime, lenses like the samyang 135 f2, takumar 50 1.4, and maybe the coming panasonic S lenses... But for now, I will add the smallrig cage for the S1 + a cheap 5.5" monitor, and I think about buying a Panasonic G9 + pana leica 200 f2.8 + tc (unbelievable sales + cashback right now) . It will allow me to "deport" the long reach video and photo use to this setup. @omega1978 sorry, I promised you to take sample images with the sigma 14-24, but I did not find time to do it before leaving. Did you put your hands on it ??

  29. @Anaconda_thank you! I filmed mostly in 4k internally, with some shots externally to a Video Assist 4k in pro res. Some shots were in 2k and 1080 only because I had only one card on me and wanted to maximize the content gathering. As of now we are doing a screening tour along the eastern shore of the US. We are talking to major streaming services right now, but nothing is etched in stone. By January we will know our direction in that regard. The screen grab with the red hat is pro res and the other is the internal dci 4k codec.

  30. The JVC Gyls300 is still very relevant and capable in 2019 and well beyond it! I just finished a culturally important urban documentary, that I’ve been working on for two years, titled ‘Marcy Made’, which 95 percent of it was filmed with the JVC! The documentary is about DeHaven Irby. DeHaven Irby for those who may not know, was a very good friend of Jay-Z and was the person responsible for bringing Jay-Z into the game. Jay is actually DeHaven’s daughter god father. Anyways they aren’t friends anymore and things have been said on both sides about one another. Their friendship ceased when DeHaven was sent to prison and Jay-Z left him there without any explanation of why. When DeHaven was released, he published a YouTube video in 2008, which went viral. In it he talked about a lot of issues with him and Jay, but wasn’t specific, so he left a bunch of questions unanswered. Jay-Z responded in one of his records, “So fuck DeHaven for caving, that’s why we don’t speak, Made men ain’t supposed to make statements!” In essence calling him a snitch...... This documentary answers all of those questions and shows that DeHaven isn’t a snitch. It also reveals the true reason behind their split. I had a screening of it this past Friday (9/27/2019) at Firelight Studio in Brooklyn, NY and these are just some pics of the venue’s screening room. I must say that the GYLS300’s image held up wonderful on the screen! I prefer a higher bit color rendition from a cinema camera, but the 8bit IQ coming from this sensor is still capable of competing! Heres the trailer for the documentary: https://youtu.be/Gm1ug-Aa8TM

  31. Trump 2020. Democrats don't even talk policy anymore. They've now debased themselves in to trying cheap tactics to impeach him. Even Obama is telling the progressive party to chill out with the cancel culture woke lexicon. What happened? How did conservatives become the cool* counter culture?
