  1. Now we are talking. inspire 2 announced with 5.2K raw and 4K60fps raw. H265 is here too. And they will have a new kind of Osmo for it. In 1" or 4/3 format. You pick. Isnt it funny that the best specced cameras on the market are released by a drone company without video experience? VS jokers like canon who will release 4K60fps raw and H265 in a camera of the size of a GoPro in maybe ..... we'll never. http://www.dji.com/mobile/inspire-2

  2. At 1080p I would say ISO 3200. 4K it's ISO 12800 or near that anyway. I do have a higher tolerence to noise than most people though I think. Here's a clip at 10,000 The good thing about these Fuji files is that unlike some other cameras, it doesn't really kick in noise reduction much at high ISOs and so details remain quite visible. Using noise reduction in post gives great results. One somewhat annoying thing regarding ISO I forgot to mention earlier is that you can't change it whilst recording. I've yet to see any macroblocking in 1080 or 4k. The bitrate for 1080 seems to be variable, usually between 30 and 100 mbps. There are no artefacts in 4k either but there is a little bit of moire and aliasing in 1080. You can see that here https://***URL removed***/reviews/image-comparison/fullscreen?attr29_0=nikon_d5500&attr29_1=fujifilm_xt2&attr29_2=canon_eos80d&attr29_3=panasonic_dmcg85&attr72_0=1080&attr72_1=1080&attr72_2=1080&attr72_3=1080&normalization=full&widget=378&x=0.03472009788926267&y=-0.5420819490586931

  3. Hi all, Has anyone come across one of these before, I can't seem to find out anything about this lens? Front markings are ISCO-GÖTTINGEN ISCORAMA - ANAMORPHOT 1.5x - 49 MC. It has the the same front and rear element diameters as a 54. However this one has a 72mm rear mounting thread, and instead of buttons, has the same alignment mechanism as the 42. I haven't been able to test it yet, thinking of hacking together a UV filter mount. In the meantime does anyone have any more info on this lens? Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you!

  4. This was a really intriguing camera until I saw the AF limitation, now the a99II is a no go for me. Some will throw out the "pro's don't use AF" crap, but AF sure makes it easy to set focus with the short focus throw of photo lenses. And after using the tracking on the a6300 and A7rII - its incredibly convenient for a one-man-band to shoot handheld footage or shoot on a gimbal. I don't use AF all the time, but its something I do use. With an AF system this sophisticated, tracking could be next level compared to everything else. Early adopters are reporting the full AF system doesn't work with older Minolta and 3rd party lenses, so that Sigma 18-35 won't AF either. As much as people on this board want to bash Canon, DPAF works with all Canon lenses and most 3rd party lenses in any mode, not just P and at f/3.5. SMH. So close Sony, so close.

  5. This is a pretty cool update, I'll wait for the version that doesn't require me to walk around with a big goofy drone for handheld shots. They'd sell a LOT of the camera/osmo combos if you didn't need a drone for the recorder. I'd buy the 1" version with the gimbal in a heartbeat. DJI, are you listening?

  6. Meanwhile Canon offers $3.5 camera that only do 4K with 1.7 crop and MJPEG (The P4 does H265 btw). I know, not the same sensor, FF, heat issues, etc. Lot of excuses.

  8. Crazy- ness... I mean some Artist use Windsor and Newton, while some use Kolinsky Sable, they both will work with painting canvas. It's your choice what you use, I find it funny when we fall into the this camera vs that camera nonsense, the purist vs the trendy new guys on the block. Everyone should buy what they choose to. That said, I'm loving the idea of a fuji xt2.

  10. The camera which Panasonic can't decide what to call (GX80 in Europe, GX85 in the US and GX7 Mark II in Japan!) really excites me. It's the first time that anyone has put 5 axis in-body stabilisation in a 4K camera which exceeds the performance of the stunningly good Olympus 5 axis system. It's not quite as effective as a gimbal for sweeping handheld movement, but that pain-in-the-ass tripod you can certainly dispense with now, along with that Olympus 1080p mush too!! GRAB A CUP OF TEA, PUT DOWN YOUR F***ING IPHONE AND READ THE LONG ARTICLE!!

  11. Hi everyone! I would like to share this theory with you all because I am in no position to test it out without spending a small fortune. Recently I cam across this: https://www.pdmovie.co.uk/collections/remote-air-mini/products/pdmovie-mini-02-remote-air-mini-dual-channel?variant=19159935171 The follow focus works via bluetooth. you can download it's app from the apple app store it only works with iOs devices at the moment. Fiddling with it a bit I found myself thinking: "If you could set the focus markings for the anamorphic lens on the FOCUS section of the app, set the markings of the taking lens on the IRIS section, then link all the marks together so, the problem should be solved right?" Do you think it would be possible to link two channel and synchronize them like the genius behind this?: Or hack the app so to be able to using it in that way? I am no expert of programming, but the people behind PDMovie could be really in a position to make double focusing easier, IMHO

  14. Other than spreading half-truths, I don't blame the Left for my vote. I blame them for assuming the worst of me rather than discussing my choice. I blame them for ignorantly labeling me this or that without knowing how I feel about specific policies. I, personally, am fine with my vote. I will wait to see how he governs before I reevaluate my decision as I'm sure a lot of the other Trump voters will do. I am not above admitting I am wrong if I am.

  15. Pie's critique is from the point of view of The Shocked Left. But what about the Trump voter who now thinks they may have fucked up and are looking to rationalise their decision by blaming The Left for not giving a good enough alternative? To them I say: credit where credit is due. It wasn't The Left who was responsible for putting Trump into power; they voted for someone else - it was the people who voted for Trump who are responsible for elevating him to power. For those who voted for Trump, you now have him. For those who voted for him but now think that vote may have been a mistake, you can't shirk the uncomfortable responsibility by saying The Left made me do it, or that The Left didn't discuss sufficiently how you shouldn't shit on the dining room table at dinner time. Every vote counts, and you now have what you voted for. But with the benefit of new information and a fresh perspective you are always free to change your mind at any time and help fix up the damage. That is a perfectly acceptable and reasonable thing to do. It is a necessary thing to do, not least for your own sanity.

  16. I know, that's why I wrote "or other optics", 3 other companies are pushing their optics on the market, we have a selection now. But you can't have everything in one focusing solution (sharp glass/no lens breathing/no aspect ratio change/lightness) and get if for cheap.

  17. Andrew has a weird/rare single focus x2 Isco Anamorphic, so Isco did make a few made to measure lenses it would seem. So is this a 54 housed in a smaller body? But the 49 name would suggest that the rear element is 49mm & not 54. Whatever you've got, it is rare & if it is as sharp as the 42, the OP has got a very nice lens indeed - none of this plastic 36 housing shit, that makes you too scared to take it outside. Flares be damned, it's the out of focus qualities that are the important thing.
    1 point
  18. Exactly, x1.5 is more than adequate & 2.66:1 is far easier to deal with. It's only really the purists (with their cheap x2 dual focus adaptors) that advocate a x2 anamorphic, and you can only use one with a camera with a 4:3 option.

  19. Nobody except Peter Jackson liked The Hobbit in 48p, and 3D is about to die - again. As you said, don't declare the end of something. 3D is like Dracula. Often impaled and turned to dust. When the world just had forgotten his existence he came back. Stereoscopic images are first reported from the very early 17th century: At school I had a girlfriend from Romania. She spoke 10 languages fluently and got the international baccalaureat. Studied in Belgium and became a dermatologist. Her parents had been very poor. And no intellectuals ...

I have the lens and it is great when you want that soft cinema look, but it is terrible with light sources in the frame. Good for commercial work it is not. Wanted to show everyone this. Recorded a interview entirely with a Voigtlander 40mm and SLR Magic Anamorphot. Think at least visually it turned out well, used stabilization a bit to excessively.

  21. Ran off some more footage yesterday morning. Added grain to a few shots. Really love the color and image stabilizer, wish it could get more shallow. The lens really does seem to do best between F2.8 and F8.

  22. Disadvantage of this method - change ana ratio, when focusing. in infinity, for example, 2x, near focus less than 2x.

    Double focusing solved?

Great invention but I don't see the reason of using this heavy, bulky (double)focusing mechanism over a rangefinder or other optics.

  24. I got a bit tired of shooting with 2x and 16:9. I'm happy with a 1.5x on a 16:9, post is easy and don't need to crop the image. Find a quality 1.5x is the only hard part.

  25. It's most likely the Isco-42, and one of the sharpest Isco lens between the 36 and 54. But has far less prominent lens flaring.

  26. Interesting episode. Definitely proof that this is all very subjective. I liked the Nikon and Fuji the best, but I tend to like darker images. I was most surprised by Canon, although the jpegs were pleasing, I found them to look rather generic and even though the WB on the Panasonic and Olympus cameras seemed a little wonky, they definitely had an edgier, more unique quality in their renderings. I was also very surprised by Pentax, I thought the images looked great. I would love to see Pentax bump up their video quality like Fuji has. Obviously, the biggest outlier in the test was the iPhone and I question if it receiving the number one slot for that one category, was based more on familiarity of the image. Thanks for sharing.

  27. What I need is a Mavic design, even if it is bigger no pbm, with the camera of P3P. 0 advantage of keeping the horrible P4 design. So inconvenient to carry around. i need portability since i travel all the time and hike and do all kind of extreme sports. But at the same time I do commercial shots. Having best IQ at smallest package is key.

  30. Everyone talks about color and this video reminds us how subjective this is. Here's The Camera Store TV comparison of the out-of-camera jpegs in facotory default settings. Many cameras were tested and they found the Panasonic (G80, arguably identical to the GX80) standard profile to be ahead of the Fuji, but lower than Nikon and Canon.

  32. ProRes, nice! File management was the main stumbling block on the V1 (raw)... This seems to address that well. 70 MPH too, jesus!!!! The main excuse is that it is also a professional STILLS camera!!!! Why does everything have to be so black and white on here. It's not even comparing apples to oranges.

  33. There is a way even easier. Without servomotors. My colleague from Russia solved double focus in mechanic. Only difficulty is to calculate the ana attachment moves and the lens. And nonuniversal this method, only one lens may be used. But cool and less bulky than with motors. His site http://pooli.ru/

You will see it translated to SDR (REC709) if you have an SDR viewing device; and HDR if you can watch in HDR: Panasonic GH4 10bit 4:2:2 to Shogun Inferno, graded in resolve 12.5 in HDR. Output as DNxHR 444 12bit, with injected HDR metadata.

  37. As I’ve said before we are in Canon repeating the Scoopic story 40 years later. The 16mm camera was an order from NHK to have a sturdy news camera to compete with the Beaulieu and Bolex of the time. It was sturdy but had that committee feel to it. Using a Beaulieu in Vietnam was playing Russian Roulette, a Bolex died the first day. The XC10 is in the same category. After almost 6 months using it for what it is, a news reporter video and photo camera, I’m highly please. We don’t do small documentaries but again it would fit the bill if we had too. And I’m sure that some are used as C cameras in big budget production, at the price they’re expendable after all and nobody will notice a 48 frames cut. As long as the card survives, everybody is happy. To try to express how sick and tired I am of the purist would be an understatement. The XC10 does the job. What I don’t understand is the XC-15, but then again I still don’t get E=MC2 perfectly. But what I truly don’t understand is the lack of a power zoom or the feeling that the XC line could be an ecosystem on its own. Why not offer on the bottom a replica of the I/O, usb, hdmi, sound and viewfinder out? Or at the flash head, viewfinder out and sound in? Imagine a small Oled viewfinder on top! Not a great engineering feat. But imagine how many 3rd party accessories would come to life. And what about a choice of lens, the one supplied which does the work, a shorter but faster one and one with a Canon mount. As is it is an excellent compromise. If you want a C700, then get one. If you are limited in resources, get this. And by the way, hundred of thousands of hours of tv programs worldwide are shot on cameras well below the specs of the XC-10.

  38. Wow... The new Phantom 4 pro is looking very sweet as well! Really makes me wish they'd introduced a regular Mavic though, and then had the Mavic Pro version have all the cool extra features like higher bitrate, variable aperture, mechanical/global shutter thing (amazing!!) and the better flight sensors. Also 4k 60P! This is just making my choice even harder. On a side note: Wow I can't even imagine how much DJI execs must have been laughing at poor GoPro's karma launch, even without the recall. DJI is absolutely killing it. Exciting times, people!

I also tested them with the Nikon D800 files a friend sent me, and they work great! Im really excited to hear what you guys think, what should be tweaked or added and all the stuff you can come up with!

  40. Get really confused about how resolution is used, or can be applied as a descriptive term, especially when cropping any type of image. This reveals the circle of confusion when using the term resolution: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_resolution Personally, don't think it really matters if you crop the sides & resolution (whether used properly or not) is one of those [stupid] hang ups like crop factor or sharpness - I'm going with the final pixel count & not the possibilities of the original sensor image size. Confusing myself now......

Yeah I can't wait to get mine either! Checking my mailbox every day ha. I plan on using mine for stills as well, so I'll post some detailed 28mp shots of with and without for sure, for proper comparisons. But it looks to be holding the detail really well! Of course we're all sad that Samsung abandoned this great camera, but at the same time I very much doubt anything like the NX-L would ever have been created otherwise, so it's quite the silver lining. You rock, @lucabutera!

Thanks for posting - great to see what others are up to! Some great tonality there. I totally hear you about detailed shots becoming mush. Must check out kidzrevil's recommendation to try other picture styles with sharpness whacked up. And please do post your lut @BenEricson Here's my shots from a weekend break in Belfast - I can sense the mush in lots of them even when downscaled to 1080p. 46. Firstly, I have never once stated that the United STATES of America isn't a democracy, so I don't know where you fabricated that nugget. But it is in FACT not a pure democracy, we are a Republic. With your years and years of education, I would think you would have learned that. I never wrote the Electoral College exists to protect the small states, I wrote that the Electoral College exists to guarantee that the voters from smaller, less populated states have an electoral voice. I'm sure I phrased it differently, but I would assume that someone with your level of education could interpret both statements equally. When did I ever write, state or insinuate that I wanted to erase any history from anything? This is the problem with people like you, you cherry pick statements and then label people a racist or a homophobe or whatever other irrelevant term to attempt to prove a non point for you. Also, please stop using the phrase "voter block" improperly. Surely a man of your intellect and varied life experiences understands the difference between a voter bloc and majority voters? Again I'm unsure where I stated that small states need to be protected from large states? In all your years of self-proclaimed education did you not take a reading comprehension class? And again, the specific reasons for the origin of the Electoral College is irrelevant in this matter and in modern times because slavery doesn't exist any longer and it's really offensive for you to use it as an argument because you want to cry in the corner because you didn't get your way this election. Boo hoo. Why don't you put your big boy pants on and have an honest discussion rather than putting words in people's mouth while condescendingly berating them with infantile arguments? If you feel you are so correct and enlightened why not try and prove to me why I should have voted for a person who swore to double down on the Affordable Care Act, a person who has openly stated she wants completely open borders, a person who negotiated one of the worst nuclear weapons agreement in modern history, a person who ignored her own employees at the Libyan Embassy when they repeatedly asked for help, leading to the death of four Americans? Please tell me why I should have voted for a person that funneled funds from her "charitable" organization to pay for her daughter's wedding? FYI, I'm actually a registered Democrat.

You get a wireless field monitor (full screen ipad) that de-esqueeze anamorphic footage on the go, plus let you primary color correction for the GH4 Vlog in real time. Probably new features are coming (Luts, remote trigger, loupe for focus). All my support to Marcus for this app.
