Fuji X-T3 and X-T4 discussion
tomsemiterrific and 3 others reacted to Jimmy for a topic
This is the reason I moved to Fujifilm.. It's just got an organic look that people seem to respond to without knowing exactly why it is different (even from fellow videographers). It has something that can't be measured on a chart, something very human (and yea, I know that sounds fanboyish ?).4 points -

Agree wholeheartedly.. so refreshingly unpretentious man and so modestly noble and politely humble in presentation, without different kinds of aggressive quasi friendly affectation. Not to mention his so nicely passionate devoting examples of artistic and technical vivisection of movies in general, camera works, used lenses, lighting etc.3 points -

Even leaving aside the fact that no one has used the camera to form any informed opinion, it will always be the case that the only opinion that matters is that of Netflix. If you find yourself in the position of being commissioned by Netflix to do one of their Netflix Originals then that is the only time that list will matter. At which point it will be the least of your concerns. Until then, concentrate on getting yourself into that position in the first place.2 points

Yes the codec's great, but nobody seems to be considering the whole package here, because there's no IBIS, no EVF, autofocus performance is yet to be proven, the battery life is miserable and the files will be VERY large at their highest quality. You have to measure the EXACT difference in the final graded image between BRAW on this, and something like 10bit LOG on the X-T3. I think for all the codec niceness the difference will be smaller than people think. Now ask yourself if it is worth the hassle of the strange form factor, no articulated screen, need to rig it up with EVF, external bits and a stabiliser... It is also sensor-limited. We're not talking about a sensor as good as the X-T3 or A7 III. And the slow-mo is an even bigger crop. Sure, I liked what ProRes and RAW brought to the image with the last Pocket camera, certainly in the creamy shadows and in low light. But it was as good in 10bit ProRes as it was in Cinema DNG RAW. So 10bit H.265 at the same bitrate as ProRes with Fuji F-LOG from a larger BSI 6K sensor with full pixel readout (possibly Samsung) has the potential to be just as good if not better. Not to mention the fact it is much easier to go full frame on the S35 sensor with a Speed Booster than to turn the Pocket 4K sensor into no-crop.2 points -

Who the hell is this guy?! I am feeling @Andrew Reid 100% but let's be the wiser forum and move on! I was considering keeping my hybrid NX system and buying this one for specific projects and what not (incredible deal coupled with the editing license), but after all the new releases throwing 10bit on bigger sensors and 10bit H265 (X-T3) I am sceptical if it really worths the 2000+euros (accessories, batteries, media e.t.c) investment for a project or two per year. 6 months ago was the deal of the century, right now, not so much, especially if someone (Panasonic? Sony A7s? Nikon?) give some kind of external raw. I do not want to sound blasphemous, but a lower price may be more appropriate for 2019.2 points -

Exactly. What is Pani came out with a FF camera? Would the colors be any better. Would the AF still be pure crap?!?!? You bet your bipy the AF would suck. I got my X-T3 yesterday--and the AF and eye AF are fantastic---no smoke and mirrors here. This camera and the technology are the Real Deal Lucile. The problem with the FF version (if it actually happens)is the problem with the MFT version: weird color--inferior to the Fuji---and AF that sucks to high heaven. I just got my X-T3 yesterday and will be publishing a video in a few minutes that uses the X-T3 in a studio setting, and the eye AF and general AF is fantastic. And those Fuji colors. I really think they're better than Canon---better by a LOT! This video is shot with the X-H1, but there is about three minutes of intro shot on the X-T3, which I just received yesterday. (I've got friends in high places). The audio recording in the talking part was also recorded internally in the X-T3, using XLR microphones with an adapter---pretty damned clean audio if you ask me. The zoo shots were done with the X-H1 using standard and speed booster adapters with Canon FD lenses. All zoo video is hand held.2 points -

5 days is nothing. Anyone can wait. Wait for what? An announcement or some prototype presentation for a release in 6 months? For a much different color science than Fuji? It will be hard to not resist to this 10-bit Fuji then, though : -)2 points -
Tried out the Z7 today at Allen's Camera in NJ, came away extremely impressed. Very responsive (quick to turn on, no hesitation in the menus) , beautiful EVF, great IBIS (smoother than Sony) and the video tracking for me was better than what I saw in the A7III. 24-70 was very sharp and focused well, but lacked character for me in it's rendering. 35 1.8 was incredible, razor sharp, great rendering. They did not have the 50mm there. What floored me the most was video AF with my Nikon AF-s glass. It was excellent! The focus motors are not quiet, but the focus was smooth and didn't hunt at all. Would not hesitate to use for event work. The adapter seemed rock solid when mounted on the camera. Obviously would need to use for an extended period of time to see other issues, but so far I think they have a winner.2 points

It's the most they've had on that website for any current feature request. Here's the link: https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/33864517-support-for-prores-raw?tracking_code=f1fd9a4ffb3ab15db819b004dfd11282 Correction: There are currently 676 votes Not the greatest. I know they just announced a fall update that resolves a few color management problems they've had for quite some time, but I also know a lot of people (Myself included) have switched over to Davinci Resolve because of adobe's slow update schedule and instability. Blackmagic seems to implement new features faster than adobe can fix their old ones.1 point

This post should be taken as friendly advice to all YouTubers. In the video above he says "I do not get cameras for free. I buy all the cameras I review". In the next video, on the Pocket 4K camera he says it is the final retail version, and starts unboxing it. There is not a single disclosure about it being sent to him for free by Blackmagic expressively for a review. This is known as "sponsored content". In fact, Wolfcrow has broken US law without even knowing it. The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) says that all sponsored content should disclose the relationship with the manufacturer. If you don't clearly label it as such, in the description for example, it is punishable by law with a huge fine and legal action. This is NOT me being "sour grapes" about Blackmagic again (although I SUPER pissed off they lied to me about camera reviewers not being sent units). I like Wolfcrow's channel. But if he is going to say "I never get a camera for free", and then suddenly he goes against his word and has a pre-release camera from Blackmagic, he should disclose it. Right up-front, start of video, clear as can be. End of story. No discussion. Just do it.1 point -

Well, there were a few instances in the past that BM said a camera was getting an upgrade or a spec was going to be included that never panned out so although I believe they are trying, I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t happen. As far as what is available to other manufacturers, all I’ve heard is that the SDK is free for post workflows and an insinuation that other camera manufacturers can include BRaw in their cameras but I’m assuming there will be a licensing fee for those companies.1 point

That's true, but since its their own codec, it doesn't make sense to hold it back from their own customers. Especially since it's open for other manufacturers to use. I'd say its 100% going to be implemented, and 99.9% it'll be free. Nice. I mean, we could all sell stuff to offset the cost of any camera. Just like we all have our own lenses and accessories that only work with one system so it makes sense to stick to that system. I was just thinking about it myself and the only this the Fuji really has for me that the BM doesn't is the photo mode, which to me doesn't warrant the extra price, especially considering lenses etc. even if I did sell off all my current gear. It's much more stress too, I hate selling on the 2nd hand market, people here are cheapos.1 point -

If I got the xt3, I could sell my nx1, whereas with the p4k I'd need a stills camera as well. All my lenses are Nikon and canon, so I just need some adapters for the Fuji, whereas I'd need a speed booster for the p4k. So in my case, the xt3 is actually considerably cheaper!1 point -

Actually, I was not in AWB. I never shoot AWB. My kelvin was set on 5600. That day at the zoo the light was all over the place, with varying clouds, etc. There was no hunting for white balance. The camera was recording what was there in a given situation. If I had been doing something serious I would have white balanced almost every scene. Considering the situation I might have been better off. and gotten more uniform results using AWB.1 point -

Current ARM processors can only handle hardware accelerated HEVC Main 10 Version 1 up to 10bit 420, to get 10bit 422 or even higher (12bit and/or 444) you need version 2 which is not yet widely supported.1 point -
Who said it is 6 months. That's why wait 5 days. Costs nothing. Maybe they get a GH5 FF in 3 months and it's worth the wait. Color science lol... I don't care about that. I can produce great looking colors from A7 which is worst color science on earth according to internet.1 point

Will Sony end the A7S line?
foliovision reacted to Trek of Joy for a topic
Sold my a7s2 for the a73, I wouldn't touch the a7s3 unless Sony bumps the MP so FF 4k is oversampled, offers 10-bit and 4k60p internal and a hybrid AF system. I have doubts about Sony's willingness to encroach on the FS5 with an Alpha camera, I just don't think they do it. The whole SAR narrative about "Sony has the a7s3 ready and is watching the competition before releasing" is so silly, the admin makes himself look like more of a blind fanboy every time he posts that nonsense. H.265 is hardware accelerated now unlike in the NX1 days. Resolve / FCPX will handle it WAY better than Adobe does with their dated software architecture. What GPU do you have? Either way, transcoding to ProRes is also hardware accelerated if you have EditReady to hand.1 point -
Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???

Something like this makes most sense to me. It also would explain Panasonic's 'need' for a high mega-pixel sensor. At 50mp for FF - you have 12.5mp for M43 - in other words a GH5s sensor capable of 4k video.1 point -

The Fusion thread
kaylee reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
I used standalone fusion for a few projects over the last few years. This week I used the resolve-integrated version for a very simple effect. I love how well it works with resolve, it's a truly remarkable piece of software. Many years ago, when I used blender for everything, I remember talking about how I wished you could put compositions from the node graph into the sequence editor. With resolve, that is finally possible!1 point -

RED just lost a huge advantage with this release. One of the best things they had going was the many flavors of RAW on their cameras. I hope Blackmagic does not make it difficult for Adobe to implement support for it, as that is the one thing that could hold this great feature back.1 point
