Always make me laugh seeing a tiny camera in the middle of those monster rigs! The image that comes out of it is basically the glass, camera and recorder though (Plus lights).... the rest are shooting aids for him and the crew. $6k... we're now entering true democratisation. Even lighting and gear for motion (gimbals, dollies, cranes etc) are dirty cheap.2 points -
Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???
Robert Collins and one other reacted to mercer for a topic
I thought I read that there is a strong rumor suggesting 16mm flange distance and a 2x crop mode, so in M4/3 crop mode, with an adapter, m4/3 lenses will work. Not a bad idea to keep existing customers that may be interested in moving to FF. Unless there is some type of internal/external Raw or internal ProRes, I don’t really see the point of a FF Panasonic. It seems like they’re grasping at straws here... especially if it doesn’t have IBIS.2 points -

We had quite a long thread about this a while ago and the general consensus was that for most of us the list was of about as much immediate concern as a list of recommended footwear that you should put on for a meeting with the Loch Ness Monster would be. The list is for Netflix's own content that they commission for Netflix Originals rather than for external content that they buy in so you can make it on whatever you want within reason and if it's good enough then they will buy it. Especially if it's a documentary about Nessie's footwear preferences.2 points

I have some tips! Summary: Better sample footage at launch Better availability straight after launch Marketing to relevant audience online rather than biggest audience Not cannibalising A7S III sales with A7 III Canon full frame lenses and 1.8x crop shambles Keeping Cinema EOS "seed" from photographic business planted with good video in Canon EOS range Keeping people in a lens ecosystem with good bodies Knowing how your "well understood" market has changed in an instant Shift to high-end pricing is dangerous (China) Understanding apps Read the full article1 point -
I've just installed Resolve 15 and am looking at Fusion for the first time. I'm hoping to get under the hood and get some next-level control for editing, especially in things like stabilisation. There's a whole bunch of cool stuff that Resolve did in 2D that we can now do in 3D My first impression was that the manual has gone from around 1000 pages to over 2600 pages! Holy wow.... Is anyone else diving into Fusion?1 point

Who said it is 6 months. That's why wait 5 days. Costs nothing. Maybe they get a GH5 FF in 3 months and it's worth the wait. Color science lol... I don't care about that. I can produce great looking colors from A7 which is worst color science on earth according to internet.1 point

The way I see it is all cameras shoot raw. But that raw image is then processed in camera... this has varying degrees of success. Sometimes the option is given for minimal processing (log). But if the camera can process the image to be lovely in camera then the need for raw is removed. This camera is surprisingly good.1 point

@Jimmy those car shots look unbelievable. This is some of the first consumer 4K that looks organic to me. I cannot believe a lot of those shots were Eterna ungraded. With every passing month, my hybrid choices just keep getting cluttered with more options... definitely a good place to be, though. Man I hope they release an X-H2 soon, because these features even with moderately good IBIS will be unbelievable.1 point

Yeah we're getting amazing progress for our $1500. I remember people comparing a GH2 to the RED stuff. Will be even closer now haha. X-E3 is also worth a look if you want to spend even less. $700-800 for Super 35mm 4K, no crop. Fuji film colour.1 point -

Very nice... we're in a new league now... Look at that handheld setup... amazing. 4K/60p/10bit/4:2:2 with a beautiful monitor and amazing lens for about $6k, half the price of RED's cheapest brain (not comparing the two, but damn the gap is really small now). For $6K, you really would have a 100% boné fidé cinema setup, including legit cine glass.1 point -
$700 4K 60p 1000 Nit HDR Monitor/Recorder
KnightsFan reacted to BTM_Pix for a topic
The NDI module is particularly interesting. This gives the potential for Atomos to develop it to be used as a really compact multi input live switcher and recorder as per the Odyssey 7q but from unlimited camera inputs on a network. If they go that way it also throws up the possibility of them creating a standalone screenless NDI input box with recorder like the Ninja Star, which is well due a re-spin with a 4K capability. The Ninja V was already looking like a great product but these modules both kick it up another notch.1 point -

jonpais reacted to Brian Williams for a topic
Yeah, the rest is already in the existing models, so the only new feature, "confirmed by trusted sources" as you say, is the "maybe 10 bit 4:2:2", which isn't rumored anywhere I've seen other than your post. So you are the trusted source? Got it.1 point -
I am so happy I made you sick! Hope you read all my future baby whines and puke over and over Maybe. But PDAF is good enough like with Sony and Nikon, so Panasonic should at least use that. Their AF is unacceptable and it’s a real shame when you see all the qualities in the GH5. It just missed FF and AF. So close.. but let’s see next week!1 point

What we really need is for a universal system of plug and play parts, like we have with PCs. Imagine if every camera were as modular as a PC! Naturally, building a camera would be a lot of research and some compatibility headaches. But just like with PCs, you could buy an off the shelf, pre-built one with software already installed. What we need is for the Axiom project to work, not just within its own world of open hardware and software, but for their standards to become universal enough that big companies manufacture parts that work with that standard.1 point -

Yes, Grant Petty says it will come in that long video about it. But also on B&H, where they normally just say 'We'll pass this on as a feature request', they say this: Also, you can download the Braw player here (Mac only for now) https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/nl/support/download/9cadff466707404487123c114efce572/Mac OS X Edit OSX 10.12 and up only - Hopefully someone else (VLC) will build it into their software soon enough, I won't be updating my OS just for this.1 point

If the cost of the XF705 is a bit rich for your blood the new JVC GY-HC500 at half the price (£3395+tax) might be for you. It also has a 1" sensor & can record 4K@50pHDR 4:2:2 10-bit video plus has a 20x power zoom. Interestingly it can record to SSD. https://www.newsshooter.com/2018/09/11/jvc-gy-hc500-gc550/ https://cvp.com/product/jvc-gy-hc500-connected-cam1 point

At around 22 minutes, Grant talks about shooting in Video Gamma, but the background 'sidecar' files have the metadata of Film Gamma. Does that basically mean with this new format you can shoot for a straight out of camera file, that has the flexibility of RAW should you need it later on? That's absolutely amazing for TV and news work. Broadcast ready files that can go out straight off the cards, but can be archived and graded later. It's pretty much game changing in my field. That alone is a reason to go Blackmagic.1 point

Not at all. Not even close. The only one is a half stop or similar in high iso (for video), there is litteraly nothing else that the X-T2 has the advantage. The X-T3 is a completely different beast.1 point

The main thing I wish it had was IBIS. The one thing I love about my NX1 is it has digital image stabilization, which isn't even sensor stabilization, but works very well for handheld shots. Seeing how shaky that video posted a few pages back was (and I'm not shitting on the person who shot it or the person who released it. as far as I am concerned, more is better when talking about footage from an unreleased camera), it seems like handholding it is going to require quite steady hands. Will have to see how the OiS lenses do alone.1 point

JVC GY-HC500 & GY-HC550
Alt Shoo reacted to newfoundmass for a topic
I'm interested in these, I'd like for the thread to stay open so we can talk about them as more info emerges / reviews start to trickle in. JVC honestly might be the camera company that gives you the most bang for your buck, in terms of features and stuff. My biggest issue with them is their menu system feels ancient and bloated. My LS300 still has the ui of a 90s camcorder and just feels ancient. But I love the picture!1 point -
