  2. Unfortunately, Ebrahim, when you chose to steal from other people, you risked ruining your reputation. I think this thread should remain on the forum, but locked, onced the matter is resolved. You are only refunding these people (if you actually do) because of the pressure brought upon you by this thread. If the OP had not started it, you might have been tempted to scam more people, given your previous success. You are a criminal because you have stolen from (at least) three people and you are a liar because you have lied repeatedly and continuously. These are not desirable characteristics for a Dentist starting out on his career and now future employers will be able to see how untrustworthy you are. You brought this upon yourself and risked a huge amount.

  3. Just read all todays madness Time out Please! ES needs to refund the 3 people involved in this matter , it's between him and them . Andrew is away filming and I don't think he will want an internet intervention lynching branded by EOSHD members when he has said if this is not resolved he will get the authorities involved. ES contact the three people involved , keep in regular contact with them and get on with the plan for refunding them in full with a realistic time frame they are happy with and stick to it. or you will be dealing with Andrew Reid direct.

  4. The DJI X5R arrived today to go with a recently purchased Inspire V2 and Osmo handle kit. Having owned a BeSteady One gimbal and DJI Ronin-M - I loved what these gadgets can do but I despised all the annoying fidgety blocks that went with it. I also didn't like the lack of portability. Due to client requests, I've got the portability and also the "bonus" of aerial (which I'm training for now, bollock ache but highly compulsory). I'll be powering the Osmo X5R with Inspire 1 batteries, using the battery extender thingamabob. I'll be taking it for a few spins within the next week. Any feedback requests from anyone? I'll be glad to share

  5. I'll second VisionTech - it's easily the best of the bunch by a long way. But remember that you shouldn't grade too much with 8-bit H264 files, as they'll fall apart. You need to get it as close as you can in-camera, then adjust for contrast & saturation and/or very minor cc. Cinestyle is absolute rubbish & looks rubbish, it requires you to grade the footage too much & you'll run into problems with 8-bit footage.

  6. Also 4K only records to the Cfast card and HD records to the SD card only. The build quality of the XC10 is great. The view finder works well in bright shooting environments and for RunnGun in good lighting it is my favorite camera to shoot with. The 5 axis + lens stabilization + clog + light weight + viewfinder + autofocus + 4k make it very fun to shoot with. Low light interiors not so much...you will need to light but was recently improved via firmware update. I did just picke up a C100 MK2 to handle more challenging lighting situations, but any other time i i'll prefer to reach for the XC10. CLOG is great too. It seems soft when you look at it but load it into resolve and it sharpens/grades surprisingly well. I'm betting the 4k high bitrate grades better than the CLOG for the C100. If I get some time this weekend i'll do a comparison shoot with both.

  7. The magenta corner thing is way overblown. It was a big topic in the BMD forums but in reality very few people had a bad unit. The ones that did went to the forum to express frustration. They've fixed the global magenta cast with a firmware update. There's a new firmware OS update coming soon that is amazing. You'll be able to monitor with LUTS on the camera. Shoot in multiple ProRes resolutions. 4:3 for anamorphic. 15 stops of DR! It's a great camera for narrative film making IMO.

  8. So, if he refunds the people he scammed, his wisdom of a filmmaker with decades of experience with all sorts of gear will not be put into question? Somehow, this seems like the bigger issue here, since this is a place for getting reliable advice.

  10. @Liam! thank you for sharing this so, first of all, i thought this short piece was pretty good~! therefore let me make it clear that my constructive criticism is just that – youre definitely on to something here, something that needs development and refinement, but thats the life of an artist~! its never ending... and at a certain point you have to put stuff out there, and the people will probably like it more than you do, because theyre way less critical of your work than you yourself will always be! but thats good: when your reach exceeds your grasp, its tough to live, but it means youre growing my first impression was that i found the way you shot the figures very intriguing, avoiding their heads and faces – not a unique notion, but a seldom used technique. almost reminds me a bit of all the cut aways robert rodriguez was forced to do in el mariachi due to lack of coverage.... which ended up benefitting his production tremendously, and people thought he was a genius for it...and it was in spanish. that helped too. but i digress anyway, that was cool, and it developed a sense of tension from the very beginning. like, who are these guys, what are they doing? what are they planning? WHY cant i see their faces? there must be something sinister going on~! moreover, that coverage forces the viewer to listen carefully, far more so than they usually would, to get all the information possible out of what the characters are saying. without the infinite subtleties of human facial expressions, we strain to discern that missing information from the dialogue alone, the sound of the voices, the cadence, the emotion or lack thereof. its a fascinating principle given those points, id suggest a couple things in terms of audio. firstly, it struck me that the voices of the principles are a bit too similar. theyre not identical, but since we dont have faces to associate them with, perhaps pitching one up or down in post could help differentiate the characters on an emotional level, so they seem more like two separate individuals, vs one characters internal dialogue. on the other hand, if youre going for the latter, great, push it that way instead! additionally, i believe the score would be more effective in this case if the music in the background seemed more like music that the guys are listening to while chatting and drinking some beers, less like dubbed audio. moreover, it could be subtlety manipulated to work better with the conversation – but a random overlay of your music track where youre not ramping it/changing it to coincide with the dialogue could be great too – a bold "element of chance", as duchamp would say, can work wonders i like the dialogue. i write "uhm"s and "like"s in my screenplays, but i keep it to a minimum, and try to have those pauses and forms of verbal static express a characters difficulty in forming a thought or making a particular point in that moment, describing their emotional state i like grain/noise for narrative, but in this case i found it a little distracting, notably in the lighter areas of such a dark piece, if the noise was more unified over the entire image that might work better. mind you, its easy to be extra critical of something like that in a piece where we are listening even more than watching, you know what i mean? last but not least: the content: what is this film about, what happens? like i said, i found the conversation intriguing and interesting from the beginning, but i feel like it needs something of a payoff, a conclusion, a highspot* if you will, something to complete it. i feel like these guys were having an idle discussion which might be leading to some wild action, or at least a resolution to do something extreme – like go on a killing spree. i feel like this is a teaser for something bigger... am i right? the mention of anxiety and intrusive thoughts is great, subjects that are seldom addressed, americans being on a pharmacy full of [dangerous] drugs is our dirty little secret. id like to see more work that explores those issues – i mean how many people are on SSRIs today, like a billion?? anyway, those are just some of my initial thoughts, im gonna watch it again later tonight. but my biggest point is this: I HAVE SEEN PEOPLE THAT I WOULD CALL TREMENDOUSLY GIFTED FAIL MISERABLY IN MAKING A ~WATCHABLE~ SHORT THAT IS ~AT ALL~ INTERESTING WITH A BUDGET OF $50k OR MORE. Youve already made something that I'd like to see more of, and if this is indeed your first short (!!!), id say youre off to a great start in conclusion, the salient principle of visual narrative is always paramount: "If its not on the page, its not on the stage"! And there's definitely merit to what youre doing, keep at it!! Stay strong buddy!! your pal, Kaylee ❤️ *pro wrasslin term lol

  11. I would start with finding a cage that fits the camera well. Then you have a solid base to add your other stuff- rail mounting, a top handle, EVF or monitor mount, shoulder pad and handles, etc. Ideally you can find or rig something that lets you bolt your speedbooster's tripod foot down, to eliminate flex/play. If you do that and have a good lens support on the rails, out at the front of your lens, you shouldn't have any flex or misalignment in your optics when moving the camera or pulling focus. Smallrig stuff is great, well made and affordable, with a wide variety of stuff (that unfortunately you have to wade through on their site to find exactly what you need). Gini stuff is great too, real Gini stuff that is, there was some confusion a few years ago with one of their distributors going off on their own and putting the Gini name on cheap Indian crap. Make sure you're getting actual Gini stuff, made in Korea. The Fotga DP500IIS or the newer DP500III are both good affordable follow focuses.

  12. This is the most sensible advice in this thread. Ed needs to relax, we all need to relax. And to be quite honest, I actually don't care about this all that much. The writer side of me has enjoyed the possible narratives but in the end this is just a big stupid scam and some people need to relax over it. This whole idea of occupy eoshd and involving some secret "anonymous" group is so utterly ridiculous, it almost makes ES's stories seem true. Part of me was interested in some version of the truth and hoped the kid would fess up, but the fact is the truth is pretty simple... It's a scam and the herd reaction of LoveFestEOSHD on one side and silly playground vendetta on the other is getting just as creepy as ES's persona. I enjoy this forum... But I definitely need a break from this bi-polar thread. And I really regret my part in it.

Just wanted to say I'm proud of everyone coming together to help out three members here get on their way to get their money back. It was an intense few days or so. But this really, in a dorky way, felt like a real community. A weird meta one, since none of us know each other in the real world, except for me and Mr. Coffee after a great skype interview session. Now I am crying. I am crying and crying and crying and sobbing and need to get a hankey. Okay got it. Anyway goodbye guys! Till the next hot-buttoned issue!

  15. Depends what you call 'proper' colour correction Firstly, the F3 and F35 are very different beasts to the newer Sony cameras, with totally different sensors that behave differently. Secondly, having shot extensively with both the F5 and F55, I'll say they're both different cameras to say an FS7. Perhaps the difference between an FS7 and F5 isn't as pronounced as say the FS7 to F55, but it's still different. Realistically, an F55 kit should probably still sit within your budget, and the F55 is an great camera. As always, each has their quirks, but I'm very happy shooting with both the F5 and F55 if I can't rent anything else. Keep in mind the F55 has the same CFA as the F65, so the picture is closer to an F65, the F5 has a picture closer to an FS7. Either way, if you think you're going to get A7s-looking stuff from any of these cameras simply because of SLog2/3 then you are mistaken. It's sad that Slog has had it's name somewhat tarnished by people using it in 8-bit 4:2:0. I think more important is the glass you put on the front of it - it can transform the look of a camera. You may also want to see if your local rental house has the new VaricamLT or an Alexa Mini - you might be able to fit them in your budget.

  20. @PannySVHS ...I second the recommendation on the Small Rig Stuff....where I've actually changed my mind is on the baseplate/rails...I own a very nice Lanparte infinitely adjustable baseplate with rails and a shoulder pad...problem is, hard to balance as my set up ranges anywhere from 16-20 lbs...just ordered the Zacuto Universal Baseplate with included shoulder pad...allows you to always keep the lens mount over or near your shoulder for balance, and also places your EVF in an optimum position if you use one, and no counterweight needed for handheld...I'm seriously considering the KineMax next, so that's where it will land up living probably...so after spending around 350 on the Lanparte here goes 574 for the Zacuto, but now I'll never buy another baseplate again...while you're considering your rig....

  21. Yes it's that smooth. Not that i can tell, but if you use it in 4K it definitely uses more power and the exhaust vent is on more...but it's nothing noticeable. Below is not my video but some good examples of hand held work. I import into resolve, grade and export out as prores.

  23. I've had my Sony A7s for a year now and within the week of getting it noticed that I had a hot pink dead pixel smack dab in the middle of my sensor..I noticed this while reviewing footage after a long day shooting a short... I was pretty upset but mostly just because my brand new camera had a dead pixel on literally the first thing I used it on After doing some digging I found that the camera doesn't have a setting to fix this like other cameras but you can force the camera to remap the sensor which will remove the dead pixel I made a quick video showing how to do so: https://youtu.be/LP1M7vZRwb0 I've known about this for a year now but just never got around to making a tutorial I've had atleast a dozen hot pixels so recommend doing this every time you are about to use the camera for a shoot Hope this helps somone

  27. I've received a transport slip from Ebrahim. I'll keep you informed when it arrives and what the content is. If Tim and I can sell it for EU 500,- then we'll split the amount that covers our expenses. If the RF can't be sold for 500,-, but less, then I suggest Ebrahim covers the missing amount to cover our expenses. I think that's fair. But I think we can sell it for 500,-.

  28. Hey guys thanks for all the great info here. I'm actually a little surprised so many people are recommending Sony cameras. I'm not sure if it's skin tone is good for a narrative piece focusing on drama and a little comedy. I see people grading the sony raw images online and it looks either hazy or with a color cast like magenta or green. I'm thinking it must be hard to color correct sony slog2-3 and people end up with overall color issues. My DP has shot with the Fs7 and he liked it but even his film looked hazy and kind of lifeless to me, and this was with a proper color correction. Like the image is too flat and they try to add some life in the skin and it ends up magenta. I don't see this issue with Canon or Alexa. I had some green casts on my first film on the Red which was hard to fix in post. We can only budget one week for color correction on our budget, so I was thinking either Canon or Blackmagic. I think Canon 1DC is not made for film production so it might cause issues while I'm hesitant about ending up with a Ursa Mini with a magenta problem. But it seems like most people here trust Sony's workflow. I guess I have to rethink some of my options. Again thanks for all your advice. I appreciate it.

  30. That is one of the reasons why this thread should remain on the forum. So that in future his previous advice can be assessed in the light of this thread ie be treated as suspect. I suggest to @Andrew Reid that he must keep this thread on the forum but lock it when ES has refunded the people he scammed. However I also suggest that Andrew writes a short summary on the first post that summarises this thread so people don't have to trawl through the endless pages to find the relevent points : ie Ebrahim Saadawi was accused by the OP of scamming him Two other people came forward to say that they had also been scammed by him After a lot of persuasion Ebrahim admitted to the scams and attempted to verify his identity Ebrahim also admitted to extensive lying about his circumstances and experience in cinematography and consequently all his advice should be treated as inaccurate and possibly misleading Ebrahim eventually refunded the three people he admitted to stealing from (Hopefully) Ebrahim has now been banned from the EOSHD forum (hopefully) If Ebrahim is banned, then I think that will be shown on his status with every one of his previous posts so that will help alert future users to the unreliability of his advice.

First short film - be nice

that was excellent to read, Kaylee! thank you for taking the time! I hope I don't seem like I'm defending myself on these points.. I do that sometimes. Not helpful, haha great note, I was a little worried about that.. I played both parts (clearly) and dropped the pitch of the guy in plaid just a little. thought it might have been enough, but I'll take another run through to see if I can make it better.. was really worried about doing that in a cartoony way haha hmm.. I was originally going to have the first guy be leaving a party in the adjacent room, to go to the bathroom (by adding muffled murmurs), to imply the second guy was sitting off by himself, later joined by the first guy, which might better explain his weird music choices? if that partially addresses that? I wish I could do that.. seems a little more difficult than playing two parts (playing a room full of people), but maybe I should make it more understandable drinking music, if I don't have that element. that makes sense, i'll keep browsing. wanted it to be subtle music that wouldn't make it seem like they were ignoring it by not tapping their fingers to it, and not like emo - could almost be funny, but probably just painful.. music is tough The grain, I hope was just because of the compression. I've been experimenting a ton today with export settings etc. I decided no grain for vimeo upload, since it's too long and the file will be too big for my basic account. But I might be convinced to buy a month of Plus for one of those huge file uploads after upscaling to 4k. seems it would work pretty perfectly. I keep getting that note about adding some meaning, haha. I kinda just can't see it.. I'm really trying. probably the whole point right now is how stupid the conversation is, ha. and the end kind of does justify that in a way I hope? making like the lack of payoff a payoff? I got one note saying even though it should mean something, they liked the ending.. it's tough to compromise like that. I'd have to really see it. and that would be difficult to get right.. a film with a twist ending or almost a "punchline" like that, has potential to be really corny.. just would have to have a real grasp on the change first. I have kind of this element in another film i'm writing (what they're talking about), but unsaid, internalized the whole time, so there you actually see it. But yeah, I'll keep thinking. more tempted right now to maybe just call this one done and use what I learned on my next film That is the best thing I've ever read, I love you! let me know if you have any more thoughts after watching again, or of course more responses to the above

  34. The ImpulZ set of LUTs by VisionColor contains the LUTs designed for each LOG profile. So, for S-Log2 you'll go in the folder "ImpulZ — Sony S-Log2" and use a "_FPE.cube" version of the LUT. The FPE version means Film Print, it's a standard. You can adjust opacity/intensity of the LUT. Otherwise you can use the "_CIN.cube" version combined with a Cineon conversion LUT such as "Cineon to Kodak 2383 FPE (D50).cube". The Cineon versions are only in the Ultimate package. Hope it helps

Also enjoyed @Justin Bacle´s post about the Lomo anamorphic lens and his footage in the anamorphic section. I think it is awesome, once a certain level of IQ is reached (GH2,3,4 G6/7, AF100 levels) it comes to ergonomy and the pure joy of shooting and lighting and creating stuff it is causing. By the way, you and me have been typing about profiles for G6 and your GH3. Would like to see some of your stuff you shot with it in Natural profile, if that is possible. 46. I think all of them are reading the file correctly, but the two top apps think they are sending the signal to a TV and adjusting the output to match. If they read the file as 16-255 it would ether be left alone or being clipped/expanded to 0-255. If you are using nVidia card, check settings and see if you can force output to be 0-255 range, it might be that and hardware acceleration that causes it. I use MPC-HC so I can't help you with quicktime or VLC.

  48. I don't have any experience with the A7RII but I use the A7SII almost daily at work; as far as I understand, the here are the main differences between the two: Pros of A7SII: Great full-frame look video, best in low-light, S-Log3 and other color gamut settings not available on a7rii Cons: Crappy/unusable video autofocus, (and if you're interested in stills as well, no phase-detect autofocus for stills, and of course 12mp is waaay less detailed than the a7rii's 42 mp) A7RII: Really good in low-light, really good video autofocus (the 'eye' autofocus looks very cool) but supposedly much better in cropped Super 35 mode than FF, so some people actually use a speedbooster on the a7rii in order to still get the FF look but with the benefit of the sharper image and better low-light performance of S35. Kind of crazy. So really, the bottom line deciding between the two, it comes down to this: Do you want really good full-frame video (a7sII) or really good S35 video (a7rii), and then whether or not you're interested in stills as well (a7rii all the way, in that case.) Good luck!
