  1. I heard that Trump will be setting up his own camera plant in Detroit, the rumours are that the first camera to be released is to directly rival the GH5 and will have these features: 4k, just the best 4K...you'll going to love it. Honestly, the best 4K. Camera body in any colour as long as its red, white or blue. Colour balance is locked to 2700k for uniform orange skin tones. Buttons made for extra small hands. Weather resistant, including urine. Overheating notification in 4K mode is displayed as "Hoax invented by china". Camera strap has red dye to be deposited onto neck of user. firmware accessible via secure server, directed via Russia. No word yet on pricing yet, but rumour has it Mexico will pay for them.

  3. I'm not doubting some vintage lenses have a different look when used with modern cameras, however when I used my MF Nikkors on my Samsung NX1, I could not really see any difference compared to using native "S" lenses. Sharpness, colour and contrast were all of a very comparable level. The lenses I used were 28/2 Ai-S, 50/1.2 Ai-S, 105/2.5 Ai-S and 180/2.8 Ai-S ... all of which are incredible optics. I've been shooting MF Nikkor glass (photographically) since the release the D700 until now and I can not seee any real difference most of the time between these lenses and the modern Nikon lenses I have such as the 1.8 primes and the 24-70/2.8 etc when shot on a Nikon camera. They all seem to have an almost identical look & colour signature. The only Nikon lens I've had that was not identical to the rest was the 58/1.4 which IMO has a different look. I have never used my MF Nikkors on a Panasonic camera so I just can't compare the image to native Pana lenses. Also, if the MF Nikkors look more organic on a modern Panasonic, I'd wager that the ultra modern Nikkors are also going to look organic because IMO there is little to no difference between the signatures of the AF modern lenses or the older MF Nikkors @kidzrevil or anyone for that matter using MF Nikoors on a Pana ... , I'm not disputing what you all say about the image looking more organic using MF Nikon lenses because I never tried, but can you show me what you mean by them looking different (organic) compared to native Pana lenses ... say on the same Pana body settings like default Natural or Standard? I can not find any of these tests online. I'd be really interested to see what the difference is before I spring for a Metabones Speedbooster. On the Samsung NX1 they didn't look more vintage or organic at all. They looked super sharp and had great contrast just as they do o n my D750 or D800e ... they didn't look vintage or organic at all. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my MF Nikon collection (around 15 lenses) but having an organic or vintage look to the was never part f the appeal. I love these lenses because I love the tactility of manually focusing in photography along with the build quality, aesthetics and price of these lenses Cheers.

    I need A7s3 !!

I have an actual photo of a Sony engineer testing the A7SIII E.F in beta mode. Here's a Sony engineer running away from the scene after testing the 4k60p. The battery was short lived and went brightly nuclear shortly after, that's why they call it Elephant's Foot. Jokes apart (although Chernobyl is no joke), I love, love, love my RX10II but I rather complement it with a GH5 than a small battery, 30 mins limited, tilty screen and who knows what limitations more, one SD card a7siii.

  9. Strange post, it hard to know what you really mean as it's polluted by references to conspiration theories. Not sure all Media is corrupt, never the less Trump has manipulated too many. The underlaying problem is lack of good education in US for a long period (for at lot of people), resulting in lack of good judgement. In Europe we see parallels to what happen in Germany in the 30ies, its is a really dangerous situation. Yesterday it was fantastic to see people finally showed engagement. What do I mean by conspiration theories; that NWO elite has funded ISIS - of course this is rubbish. A very simple thing- some people use religion to manipulate people which has been going on for ever, and they are local, not initiated by the Westen elite.

The A7S: HE (Hollywood Edition) has a groundbreaking new feature, in which you can map ISO sensitivity by touchscreen to different pixels in the image, so you no longer need any lighting whatsoever!

  12. In case anyone's interested: Got to play with a Feelworld FW760 7" field monitor, connected to my GX80. It came with the latest software review in which they bumped up the input formats to 4K. The monitor in itself is quite nice, building is average but you totally get what you pay for. The kit came with a coldshoe ballhead support, sunhood mounting frame, sunhood, HDMI cable (mini to regular) and documents. Main features: 4K input support 4 assignable function button for direct access Safe frames, aspect ratio masks Focus peaking Sony NP battery It does what it is supposed to do except for a few quirks that I don't really like: Huge latency on the signal: annoying and very visible, I know it's the monitor beacuse the camera connected to my TV doesn' show the same behaviour. I guess that might be because of the 4K update, the few reviews I saw on the web didn't show any of this latency Signal is intermittent, don't know if it's a cable problem (only got one HDMI micro to regular to test with) or what, but right of the box the first 30 minutes or so it was quite a pain in the ass, then it started acting a bit smoother A few bugs in the software: powered up and the images was so oversharpened it was painful to look at. Dialed down to 20 (from stock 50) and all was good. Problem is as soon as you activate focus peaking and then deactivate it sharpness is back to stock value and you gotta dive into the menu once again. Very annoying. Zebra show some strange behaviour. You can dial them in from 0 to 100 but your changes take place only if you have them activated. If you have zebra off and set them to 70 and turn them on they'd be at their previous (random) value. Makes no sense at all. Feelworld website is probably one of the worst I've ever seen. There's no info on software or firmware or whatever. I looked at their Facebook page and it's worse. I'll keep it for a few days and then make my mind up. It's a tad too big for my tastes, I was looking to build a small and easy to carry around rig so 5" was my choice but I couldn't find any cheap monitor that size. My 2 cents.

  13. Excuse me for being a hopeless pixel-romantic. This dilemma has kept me awake for a quite some time now and I am hoping your subjective experience, reflection, input, opinions and/or advice potentially could give me some guidance (or potentially more confusion, which I will take full responsibility for). My interest for Raw started when I played with the thought of replacing my a7s for a Digital Bolex D16. While I am usually very trigger happy, I managed to hold my horses when the chance to have a go on it complicated my relationship with it. I realized that, without a second camera (for budget reasons), the 20 minute boot-up and the sacrifice of photography would not make me happy in the long run. While I still want to be a Bolex-owner as I am a sucker for the CCD and its awesome audio features, it is not my time just yet. Nevertheless, the Raw fanboy is still in me and I think the 5D is the (next) best thing (?) and might be a good investment. Maybe I just answered myself, haha. However I specify that I am asking for your subjective experience/opinions. Maybe some of you have been in the same boat or the other way around. I did quick and shamelessly dirty test today, if you find it interesting. The exposure is all over the place (unfair), more info on that in the videos description. Thank you!

  16. This would become (FF equivalence) a 34-100mm f2,8 with the speed (but not the DoF-characteristic) of an f2.0 (one stop brighter). You will know better how good the focus ring is. Metabones list of tested and officially supported lenses for working AF with the Ultra: However, I suspect "working" means, it will focus if you are patiently aiming the camera at your motif for stills. Don't think that it's usable for video. Your lens seems to be top-notch. Probably a very good (parfocal?) glass for the GH5 with a very desirable focal range and very fast too. 700 bucks for the SB - if you don't like it, send the Speedbooster back and sell the Canon, that's what I'd do if I were you. The XL (~same price) - if it fits on the GH5! - would make it a 31-88 with the speed of an f1.8 - everything one needs, and IBIS would work with it.

  19. 5D2 is a waste of money, 5D3 is a lot better and worth the extra from what I've experienced and read. The shots weren't so different until you shot the anamorphic stuff, then the 5D3 looked noticeably a lot better. I'm also trying to get the cash for my own 5D3 at the moment, like you I think it could be a great all round performer. I'm shooting 7Draw all the time at the moment, but I can see how the 5D3 is a lot nicer (also for pictures, especially the DR).

  20. I don't get it. If you want good IQ and reliable AF, Canon has the 1DXII and C100. What's the problem with those cameras?

  21. Well, moving money to the smartphone department should be good for the cameras, since they've been in the same merged department since 2013 http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/13/5206560/samsung-merges-camera-and-mobile-divisions But I assume that they have also been putting the money towards phones even within the department :P

  22. To be fair even with DSLR I always just use Sony np-f batteries externally with them. A6300 just needs extra work to maintain it's cool from what I've read - external everything and stick a cooling pad behind the monitor! Of course if you are working on a hot set then all bets are off. I agree that it is annoying, but for all of us low budgeters just think of all the low budget things we do to make things work... I should test and shoot more before saying anything but I'm not finding the skin tones from a6500 to be horrendous at all if you tweak the color settings and grade with luts.

  25. The news that I can find are those that you can find in the internet, the Samsung is at the center of a corruption investigation, the big boss is in a coma in 2014 and his son to get the maximum power resulting from the merger with other companies, it seems that he corrupted the president of Korea. Samsung has never released an official statement of closure of their cameras, they were told they had to move resources toward smartphone department, and that's exactly what they did. The Samsung is a giant that moves 7% of the GDP of Korea and has to make money, but they are also very proud and competitive environments, each product is built to be the best of the competition.

  26. I think you're right, thanks for your patience! Does not exist a version 1 and version 2, each NXL is an evolution of the previous one, who has more patience will have a product tested and improved.

  27. Keep in mind rolling shutter can be an issue even outside of action and handheld. If your vision for the film involves quick pans, complex camera moves, or any objects that might move quickly through frame (cars, trains, a running person, etc) it'll be a noticable problem. Imagine something like Boogie Nights or Shaun of the Dead with huge rolling shutter skew. It would ruin half the movie. Overheating can be a real thorn too. When you need to wrap a location because they need you out at a certain time, but you can't get the shots you need because the camera has a flashing temperature warning, you might wish you'd forgone the better DR in favor of a camera that would run steadily through the day without hickups. Or when you're on your fifth take of a Ronin shot, everything's finally going perfect, and then your camera ruins the take? Your operator is going to be pissed, and rightly so. You'd better have an AC on set with an organized charging station too, or batteries are going to be an issue. A6300 burns through them like a mother. You either buy 3-4 and keep them charging, or buy 8-10 and make damn sure they're 100% before you come to set. Even then, you should bring two wall chargers. To me, Panasonic is just less hassle. Plus cheaper, so you can spend more on lights, lenses, art, locations, crew, and talent.

    Trump is POTUS now what?

    1. Be the voice of free America. Say and show that human beings of different ethnics can live together peacefully. 2. Propagade the positive values, liberty, fraternity, equality, solidarity, inclusion, justice. Not the words alone, but what they mean in everyday life. 3. Reinstate facts over fearmongering, hysteria and conspiracy theories. All conspiracy theories ("Deep State") tend to be bizarr exaggerations of very banal truisms, i.e. that corruption exists (everywhere, by the way) and that there indeed is a swamp. A criminal detective would ask cui bono? In a capitalist system? Do we really need to speculate? Rich elites of course. Make their interests transparent! Obamacare (with all it's faults) was financed by progressive taxes, who will pay in the future? 4. And: reinstate facts over false political correctness. Lets add honesty to the positive values under point 2. 5. Don't attack Trump. Facts don't stick to him. Everybody already knows why he doesn't show his tax reports. That his crew is not qualified for the tasks assigned to them. And so forth. A bag full of shit can't be critizised. Better stop this kind of scandal-obsessed celebrity journalism which made him all too famous in the first place. Clinton was impeached for Lewinsky, but he stayed in office. These things are not what policy is about. 6. Trumps "reign" can be an opportunity. Become aware (and make others aware) what has been accomplished in the past decades. And what we risk losing by DJT. Ignore the ridiculous enemy. Unite to show the world how great America is. For us non-Americans, it always had it's sinister sides too. Would global capitalism - uncontrollabe for a single nation (and not to be stopped by any kind of protectionism) and a severe threat to our planet and our species - exist without the USA? The good thing is, if you survive this regime, you will be stronger. I mean not militarily or economically ...

    Trump is POTUS now what?

Why stop there? Why not internal 12-bit RGB 444? (only aware of the C300 II currently with that option. RAW of course reconstructs to 10+ bit RGB 444). @webrunner5 No perfect solution, though there are better solutions than what we've been experiencing, namely we need to not accept behavior that serves them and not us (voting, buying/not-buying goods, peaceful protests, writing/calling congressmen etc.).

  33. Well there is steady and there is "Flying" when using a Gimbal or Steadycam. I use both and they both have their uses, but I find "Flying", which I seem to do more now that i have a pair of Gimbals, a little TOO much in reality. Crazy to say but I prefer a little jerkiness in my footage these days! Not a big fan of Drone footage because of that also, but it is amazing what they can record. Problem is these days no way you can stabilize shoulder wise, just say 5 pounds, of camera rig. it takes 15 pounds or more to do it, and not really even then for long periods. I guess there is a reason someone invented Tripods!

  35. Every raw file "development" program that I have used initially defaults to the camera's settings. Of course, one can usually change from the default settings to adjust white balance, exposure, camera profile, etc., but it probably depends on which program that you are using to convert from raw to .tiff.

    I need A7s3 !!

Big Sony fan. Have made very positive Sony reviews. Loved the A7, FS100, RX100, RX100ii, Nex-5. Liked the A7ii, a6000, Z3. Could live with the A7sii, if I could get one at half price. That banding does not justify $3K. Super disappointed by the a6300 and RX100iv. Biggest issue is that they sell broken stuff and say its supposed to be that way. Overhype their own specs. And the lovely colors of the fs100, f3, f35 has been replaced by puke. All imo of course. I can still see the appeal. Totally respect people who likes them. No camera is perfect. Wouldn't mind owning a RX1.

  39. With the option to shoot in 4:3 mode, I would take advantage of it at all times. As you don't lose any resolution when shooting anamorphic, and less post work. But anytime you shoot 16:9, you WILL have to crop in and WILL lose horizontal resolution. Unless you want to specifically retain the super wide 3.55 aspect ratio when shooting in 16:9 mode with a 2x. That's just my opinion, enjoy shooting anamorphic!

    GH5 & stabilization

+1 IBIS only: good for handheld but mostly static Gimbal: same + walking gimbal + ibis: used it on a RX100, a dream. You can run and get smooth footages. IBIS can't replace a gimbal yet. It's a nice to have though especially when you can't have the gimbal with you.

  43. Giving -200 error when I try to upload my jpeg, trying to use a lower jpeg quality to see if the smaller file size lets it upload. Hmm, no luck, says "There was a problem processing the uploaded file. -200" I have no idea what the problem is. Other files from the 5DSR also don't seem to be working. Well, just uploaded a 400mm f/2.8 shot to DeviantArt, no appreciable vignetting: http://ttbek.deviantart.com/art/Tiny-Rocket-658531277?ga_submit_new=10%253A1484922555 Hmm, now two Samsung files are having the same problem with uploading, weird, at least the first two here worked though. What I'm showing here is the slight play in the rotating section, it can be pulled slightly out or be slightly more in, first shot is out (5725) and the second is in (5726). My Samyang 12mm's back element does something similar, not sure if it is supposed to be like that, maybe I'll open it up and see if I can tighten it. It seems to be the same on both NX-L adapters. I don't know if it is optically of concern or not, I think probably not, unless maybe if it shifts on you after you focus or something?

  44. Doubt it. A gimbal will still be essential for sweeping and moderate moving shots. The combo of gimbal and a powerful IBIS will be excellent.

  45. Yeah, you made me look into Scandinavian prices some time ago and I noticed funnily enough electronics can be had quite cheap there (just about everything else is pretty much expensive). Even managed to pick up a G7 on the cheap in person just before store closure at FotoKungen, Stockholm (quite late in the day, folks at Rajala didn't have stock but were nice enough to point me in their direction). Over the last few years I must've been in Gothenburg, Stockholm, Helsinki and Oslo countless times... unfortunately those days seem over. I posted about a sick deal on Rajala around Black Friday/Cyber Monday: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/21128-last-minute-deal-for-swedes-upd-extended/ , but talking to them, they referred me to the Finnish site instead; which of course didn't have any good deals going on, in fact it was more expensive than here locally. fml Not sure, but I think all these stores have a policy not to ship anything elsewhere? See, Cyberphoto seems the same... https://www.cyberphoto.se/leveransvillkor#leveransinformation-utom-sverige . Btw, for fun you should follow the links to the .no and .fi domains and see what happens. See, I am now in the market for a Huawei Mate 9 Pro which has the dual Leica cam set-up. It sells in Central/Western Europe under Porsche Design licence at 1395,- EUR. Yup. That's right, your eyes aren't deceiving you. Luckily you guys up north don't give in to such foolishness, so I've noticed on YouTube that Huawei Denmark, Norway, Sweden & Finland are promoting the Huawei version (earlier it was thought to be China released only). I made accounts at multiple Scandinavian shops... yet all won't allow it to be shipped to your address in e.g. Austria. I mean, I know a guy from Norway and another from Denmark that are bound visit home at some point this or next month and could probably organize me one. But otherwise it's pretty tough luck it seems. For someone who wants to undertake ordering something from abroad, but shops don't send items to your country... there are some forwarding services. I'll name a few: https://www.shipito.com (US -> ..) | http://www.borderlinx.com (US -> ..) | https://www.bpm-lux.com (US/UK/BE/LX/DE/IT/ES -> ..) | https://mailboxde.com (DE -> ..) | http://www.logoix.com (DE -> EU) | http://www.huifkarverzendservice.nl (DE -> NL) | http://www.cssbuy.com (CN -> ..) | http://www.mistertao.com (CN -> ..) | http://www.tenso.com/en/ (JP -> ..) | http://global.rakuten.com/en/ (JP -> ..) | etc. There's also some other type of new and upcoming way to get your deliveries. It's a sort of UBER/Lyft model, so more like a p2p kinda of thing, but instead of being with driver and passenger it's sender and receiver... try it own risk: https://www.parcl.com & http://airnshop.com . Some sites that might be worth checking out for deals: basically the same thing but for the different regions: https://www.prisjakt.nu (Sweden) | https://www.prisjakt.no (Norway) | https://hintaopas.fi (Finland) | https://pricespy.co.uk (UK) | https://pricespy.ie (IE) | https://pagomeno.it (IT) | https://pricespy.co.nz (NZ). There's also: http://www.pricerunner.dk (Denmark) | http://www.pricerunner.co.uk (UK) | http://www.pricerunner.de (DE) | http://www.pricerunner.at (AT) | http://www.pricerunner.fr (FR) . Others: https://www.pepper.com (worldwide deals) | http://geizhals.eu (EU (DE, AT, UK, PL)) | https://tweakers.net/pricewatch (NL) | http://www.voordeelmuis.nl (NL) | https://en.toppreise.ch (Switzerland). Of course sites like Idealo and Kelkoo. Don't forget your local Google Shopping site (e.g. https://www.google.com/shopping | https://www.google.de/shopping | https://www.google.nl/shopping | .. ) either. There are some shops that import stuff from all over the world for cheap and might be able to give you a fair deal, like http://www.eglobalcentral.com . There's also stores in Hong Kong that export stuff, some stores offer customers from certain countries a tax free guarantee, for example: http://www.onestop-digital.com/index.php?dispatch=pages.view&page_id=8&currency=EUR&sl=en ('At the moment, this VAT Free guarantee only applies to orders shipped to Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States'). My Nikon AI-s 28mm f/2.8 MF came from http://www.aclub.com , initially found them on eBay. You can e-mail them and negotiate a little on the price. No guarantees, but it did fly under the radar with customs. For accessories, a good place to check is always http://www.linkdelight.com , http://www.camfere.com or one of the many other China webshops . Many of which, btw, are behind some eBay stores. So, eBay, right!? It's a great place to roam around (sure many of you have bought something from http://stores.ebay.com/roxsen at some point in time), for example if you need lens adapters, I highly recommend the ones from K&F (Kent & Faith) Concept (listings on eBay usually have the black box with orange accents in them, there's another brand 'Leinox' which is pretty good as well, they're shown with thumbnails of the adapter and a black box with brownish/copper accents). One of my best kept secrets I'll share with you today: http://www.ebay.com/usr/artemstore . If you want a Russian vintage lens, he will hook you up. Somehow he always manages to find NOS (New Old Stock) or special series lenses as well. Such a great source. Btw. I just want to highlight something I found out about eBay. E.g. take a look at this: http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ssn=zedigital&_armrs=1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=lens+adapter&_sacat=0 VS http://www.ebay.at/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ssn=zedigital&_armrs=1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=lens+adapter&_sacat=0 . Same link, just changed the domain extension. The one gets 475 results, the other a mere 175. I usually use http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=putthethingyouwanttofindhere&LH_PrefLoc=2&_sop=15 to increase my chances of finding something, over time I've learned that gets me the best and most understandable results. In this case it comes up with 477 results and... it's English so you understand it: http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ssn=zedigital&_armrs=1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=lens+adapter&_sacat=0 . Also try http://aliexpress.com , home of a lot of manufacturers as well (there's an app in your smartphone's app store, a lot can be had with a discount buying through the app). Did you know Aputure runs an offical store there for example? https://aputure.aliexpress.com . Need stuff for your GoPro? Have a look at TELESIN: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/630476 for example. A lot of brands have official stores on Amazon too (which always is a nice place to check, as some of the lightning deals involve camera gear and could get interesting from time to time). Or like Lilliput and Zhong Yi they might even have their own distribution channels, e.g.: http://lilliputdirect.com | http://www.zyoptics.net/purchase-online/ . Also. Don't forget, sometimes just subscribing to a newsletter gets you a nice welcome bonus. Also make sure to hit up a site like https://www.retailmenot.com before you purchase anything, there might be a good discount in it for you. So. Yeah! I'm all for good deals. But we just need to make sure we are able to get it somehow! I'm always keeping my eyes open, I'm a sucker for good deals as my G.A.S. history would show. DISCLAIMER: if you import something from abroad, make sure you know your national regulations and be aware that import duties might apply to your shipment

  46. @joema Thank you, this is very useful, the ME66 was off the camera on a mic stand as close as I could get it without being in the frame, but it was pointing up towards the ceiling, so I imagine thats where much of the echo came from. It sounds like a hyercardiod mic boomed from above and a sound blanket on the floor would help reduce the echo a fair amount? Is it possible to get reasonably priced sound blankets?

  47. Definitely something I will look further into if the budget allows me to. On the other hand, I see the potential of the mk3 to become a full time production horse, with the 1920x1280 (anamorphic), 3200 ISO and slow motion functions that I (am still struggling with this) can live with

  48. Just wanted to share my pleasant experience as a home video enthusiast creating a family vacation video montage with ML Raw video and Davinci Resolve. I had several technical difficulties, and tried some convoluted workflows to correct them, but in the end stayed entirely in Resolve. Sorry if the saturation/colors/clipping/banding causes any nausea ;-) I wish I had the time and skill to do justice to the ML raw files, but, for better or worse, I stuck almost entirely to the camera raw tools in Resolve.
