  1. I just created the first video of hopefully more about how to create a Good Travel Video. All based on my experiences and past, but wanted to see if you guys/gals had any thoughts around things that you would want to see and if you are even interested at all??

  2. That's what the network ask for practicality and image quality. Many people don't gasp the amount of data which goes into a production. I am doing a reportage now which will be between 21-25 minutes. Just the interviews is between 2-2.5 hours, in total it might reach 5-6 hours of footage. No one wants to deal with 4x the data for just marginal gains. I

  3. @Andrew Reid I wish you could convince the guys at Magic Lantern to do something for the Panasonic Cameras too. Maybe any super compressed RAW like BRAW, or some 10-bit codec on cameras apart from the GH line but with more dynamic range than the VLog (which isn't really pushing it enough). I wonder if Cineform can be installed on Panasonic Cameras since it claims to be Open Source now. Also the compression ratio is huge, going all the way till10:1 and possibly Beyond ("10:1 and 4:1 are typical, greater ranges are possible"). Also the range of codecs that can be encoded in the 10-bit wrapper is amazing (including a 16-bit 4-2-2 one). Maybe that will help push up the curiosity for Panasonic Cameras like the GH2 hack did, at its peak. PS: A certain middle eastern connoisseur and master of technology (and of financial sleight of hand of the most ingenious type) seems to be looking forward the Canon R ML Hack ???

  4. Well I know what happened to a lot of you guys cameras LoL. Sorry. I wanted the one on the Very bottom. ? In the Conclusion he sure doesn't sound too enthusiastic about it! Interesting.

  5. I think I might be becoming a Fuji fan. The XT3 is the first Fuji camera I have owned, and I'm left wondering how they kept under my radar for so long. It's honestly one of the most fun to shoot cameras I have ever used. So much so that I don't care about any of the upcoming cameras... they don't excite me. That might change as more details come out, but for now I'm curious what the XH2 will bring, while the new medium format beast... the GFX-100 sounds very interesting also. I heard recently that Fuji have become the number two mirrorless brand worldwide. After seeing how aggressive they are with the advancements in this newest offering, I can't say I'm surprised.

  6. I loved the OG pocket. It had it’s own look. It was a pain in the ass to use for more than 20 min though, without rigging. The P4K is definitely a next gen in every way. Once they add B- Raw ???

  8. Makes total sense Luckily the internet is awash with people that can't shoot or grade very well!

  9. I shoot HD mainly to save space on the SD as well as our server. The image quality is basically the same and I don't find myself ever cropping all that much. I would do a 20% crop on HD without hesitation.

  10. I don't think it's a binary choice like that at all. We have the Pocket, Micro, UMP and new P4k. Always loved the look of the original Pocket. The Micro while a bit different is very similar and a bit better over all in noise, moire and detail I can make the P4k look exactly like the pocket/Micro in a minute in post but I could never make the original Pocket look as good as the P4k. The P4k is a totally next level camera and image.

  11. Define better. Weird color, yellow-brown casts, worse dynamic range, way more aliasing and moire problems, lots of noise, fixed noise pattern etc. Well, some call it character, others call it flaws.

  12. You know what: let's take this one tiny (sic!) step further. ? Perhaps it's time for Panasonic to man up and acknowledge the fact that what 99% of their GH5/GH5s customer base really want, is a Panasonic-made BMPCC4K. Meaning a proper small-format cinema camera with enough stills photography features to satisfy certain needs for a cinematographer (i.e. all the basic ones plus timelapse/stop motion animation, etc). They could even get away with using an electronic shutter only and, if global shutter becomes a reality, this is a moot point anyway. They could have IBIS and non-IBIS versions available (5/5S differentiation) with the "S" version perhaps using a multi-aspect Super 35 sensor with enhanced low-light sensitivity. I wouldn't mind the camera becoming bigger, like the BMPCC4K has. Getting rid of the "H" (as in "hybrid") element, or, to be more precise, downplaying it in favor of a video-centric concept will hurt nobody. Let's be honest, if someone really wants a true "hybrid" camera in the Lumix line-up, he has the option of the G9 and soon the S1/S1R will cover this niche in the FF category. Which leads into another hypothesis that is slowly becoming relevant: the S1/S1R will not be so much FF versions of the GH5 but rather of the G9. Panasonic will also have to sometime also make a S-camera with heavier video orientation. Going back to your proposed future Panasonic lineup: G m43, perhaps with a hi/lo philosophy, as the basic hybrid line GH successor as a proper small-factor cinema camera, with emphasis on video operability while retaining most of GH5/5s stills capabilities S as FF contenders against Sony and Canonikon with an additional version with heavier emphasis on video including 8K EVA as pro cinema line, including FF sensor and no-compromise operability

  16. Excellent start, and +1 for more videos!! Everybody on YT has had a go at making a how-to for travel film-making and somehow basically none of them get past having an ND filter and buying their LUT. ??? I'd love to hear about getting close to people, as well as all the artistic elements that also never get spoken about. Why you chose one shot instead of another shot in the final edit, how you colour graded to match the location instead of the latest trend, how you choose which places to go, when to use drone footage moving forwards vs backwards, how all that contributes to the story-telling, etc etc.
    1 point
  17. It depends on how many NDs you want to put in it. It might be bigger than a single ND (I'm just guessing tho) but by the time you're saying two or three NDs plus a clear setting, that's got to eat up space surely. If they put the A7Sii into the XC10 form-factor then that's basically what it would be! Of course, the C100 does all that except 4K60. If they released a C100 mkIII it would be interesting to see what that would look like.

  19. To be honest I haven't really used my Godox units a whole lot. With the quieter fans comes reduced airflow and higher temps. I'm in a generally cool climate, stock operating temp for the sl200 I think was 42C and with the quieter fans I'm getting 53C. If you are in the desert I doubt either will last, but the stock fan would keep it cooler for slightly longer. I forgot if I swapped out to the regular vs the ULN (noctuas has different versions of the same fan at diff speeds and noise levels). Whatever I'm running only adds 3db to noise floor in tiny quiet bathroom so huge improvement over stock and basically silent on location. I'm trying the led flex panels because they're so much lighter and easier to carry around AND the bicolor is so much easier to live with than gels. I hate trying to get these cobs

  20. Good to know. The Micro was one of my favorite cameras, I just hated rigging it up to make it usable. I still wish BM released a Micro with a screen and maybe a small bump in resolution to 2.5K or 2.7K. Have you noticed any IR issues with the P4K? In some of the Raw samples floating around, the greens seem like they could be affected by some IR pollution.

  21. Camcorders a bit off topic so let's stick to the OSMO RAW. If there was a way to read the SSD directly and bypass the slow Cinelight app, I'd buy one. But I cannot wait hours and hours to transcode 512GB footage, before being able to pick it up and shoot again. It'd kill the practicality of it. You could be setting up and balancing a Ronin S in 10 minutes. The size and weight still attract me to the OSMO though. Yes the X5S is the one with the 20MP GH5 sensor in it, 5.2K RAW. DJI promised a ProRes RAW codec for that but haven't delivered the firmware update yet. Seems to be delayed. The OSMO handle with X5S and ProRes would be a clear step up but the older X5R is so cheap now!! This was nearly £4k when it came out and now it is £1200, although it's not clear if that includes the £600+ 512GB propriety SSD. I need to ask the seller. PS - X5R has 25ms rolling shutter, which isn't ideal. X5S is more like 14ms, like GH5.

  24. Heck the 1080p on the M50 is using DPAF and is as sharp as a Canon C100. And has a Flippy screen. I don't see why a person would pay the money for a EOS-R to be honest. Sure 4K is not so hot unless it is locked off, or has a Speedbooster on it. But for 1080p this thing is a poor mans C100 output wise. And for 500 bucks at times. https://www.canonwatch.com/canon-eos-m50-4k-vs-1080p-video-performance-review/

  25. Trouble is most PK4 stuff is in 4K, so it has no hope of looking like a OG one in that resolution. We need more 1080p, "Normal Speed", videos from the PK4 to compare.
    1 point
  26. From what I have seen I think the resolution plays the largest factor. The lower resolution of the og pocket helps to mask other amatuer/video looking things (lighting, colors, composition). A slight amount of added blur should soften up the image nicely and eliminate most of the difference between them. (For the record, this would be for narrative work only, if its a documentary you would leave it sharp. Though luckily this proviso is mostly redundant as most people sharpen anyway). I also think the og pocket may have had a tone curve that is favourable to highlights. The pocket 4k has different tone curves at different iso's (shown drastically by the dual native iso) so the discerning user will choose the ISO with a tone curve that matches the look they are going for at that particular moment (narrative/documentary), which is a trade off between highlight latitude and noize performance. In prores the tone curve is baked in, while the raw iso increments are only metadata but the native iso comes into the equation even in raw, and the chosen iso will indirectly effect how the user chooses to expose.

  27. I wouldn't totally discount the Olympus 17mm f1.8. I used that lens exclusively as my walk around for 2 years. And also used it for music festival photography. The Panasonic 20mm is another good option but the AF is a bit slow on it and the MF ring is unusable. 15mm is a bit too wide imo. Your best bets are the oly 17mm f1.2 or voigtlander 17.5mm, though the latter is fairly heavy (heavier than most m43 bodies)

  28. Still waiting for mine or I could compare P4k to OG Pocket, Micro and UM4.6kP. Hopefully soon.

  29. This is your only pancake lens on the list. The super small compact size gives it a lot of bonus points as a "walk around lens" to always have with you.

  30. Thanks. That was in the first hour or so after the Micro arrived. I was still charging the battery and looked out the studio window at the farm and saw the snow falling so I stuck the battery in and ran out to the pasture to grab a few shots of some of our critters. Still love the image from the Micro. Think of the P4K as that on steroids as far as a camera is concerned. The image itself is a bit more detailed (in 1080). I would have gladly paid the same to have the Micro sensor with the new P4k body/interface.

  31. With the exception of.... Fujifilm! They've done a darn good job with their latest release Also RED often puts out fairly slick release videos too. I'm quite partial to using my BP-U30 (and BP-U60 batteries) to powering my original BMPCC, the check light on the battery is handy to have. Oh no, it is too good!

  34. Hope to make some time to play with this bad boy we just added to the collection. Also picked a second body and another Ninja V. I think these cams play nice as B-cams to the C200. Moreso than the 1DXMK2... if that makes sense.

  35. Agreed. I haven’t seen any RAW from the P4K that looks better than even the 1080p ProRes from the old pocket. ?

  40. USB C storage: has anybody with the camera in hand tried custom NVMe ssd + enclosures for external recording? Something like this or similar: https://www.transcend-info.com/Products/No-760 the Samsung 970 Evo are fair priced and really fast toping out at 2500MB/s write speed And the new released Corsair Force 510 are even higher performing and more aggressive priced (2TB for less than $500!) and write speeds that exceeds 3000MB/s the usb interface theoretically tops out at 1280MB/s (if it is 10Gb). Not sure if camera usb bandwidth can handle those speeds but at least the bottleneck will not be the media. And price/performance will be better than cfast for raw (sure, with other inconveniences like have the storage externaly) Any opinions, real world experiences? cheers

  43. Funny how people on here say they don’t want the camera but still come back to have opinions about it, a camera barely no one has their hands on yet and they probably have never even seen in real life on top of that. As someone who owns it (and loves it!) and also still owns the OG pocket, I can let you know that with both cameras I get paid 700dollars a day to take pictures with them. Funny right! Next week is first day to take pictures with the P4K actually. I have a very simple work flow with it, just load your DNG into ACR and voila! Here’s a load of pictures taken with OG pocket if you wanna have a look; https://www.olarch.com/retail

  48. I don't see a product exclusively for my use. Personal use or work. I see it not only from my background or experience. I also help others to make their own choices. Yes, I see it not only from my own knowledge, from a scientific perspective because tech is science, but science is not only tech ; ) There are several equations these boards tend to neglect, being Economics only one of them. This makes any industry though. Such standpoint childishly ignores know-how, that's all. Market, in a word. All of us should have that variable to comprehend any tech talk. Unfortunately, if someone comes here to mention it, the reading over here is taken by 'features whining' instead. Or exclusively under a certain personal perspective or experience. We are here to trade different angles and POVs, I guess. BTW, I'd like to address you by your name too but I am unable to have that real information from you (E : -)
