  1. Horrible 24 hours in the States. We have a new Orange president. What does this mean for Canon, Red, Panasonic, Sony, Arri? Well the dollar may crash. Maybe it won't - actually seems like it won't. So no one knows what's going to happen to trade. Will it help Red that manufactures in the States? Again, who knows? One thing we do know - this was a useless post.

I've said something similar in another post: I've switched to Nikon after being a Lumix (GH2/4) user for 5 years (and having tested as well Canon, Olympus and Blackmagic cameras along the road). I've had the D750 for less than a year and I couldn't be happier with the image I can get with it, specially thanks to the delightful colors, wide dynamic range, reduced RS and unique DOF. Of course I miss some resolution, focus peaking (easily fixable with an external monitor), anamorphic modes, HFR and some other cool features but in the end, for the types of projects that I do (mostly low budget short films & web series), nice and clean 1080p, beautiful colors without to much hassle and that subject separation that FF easily provides is what ends up being most appreciated. With so many camera announcements it's easy to be tempted to switch systems every 6 months, but even when I consider the Fuji XT2, Oly EM1 II and Sony A6500 very desirable pieces of tech, I think that I'll stick to my D750 at least until Nikon releases its successor and/or 4k delivery becomes standard. And amen to that. I've been suffering from this disease for years and it's been my most unproductive season ever. Too much time spent on looking how gorgeous my footage could be if I had this new cool camera instead of learning how to get the most out of the one I currently have.

I'd rent one, the other or both to see if you like them and if you do, just buy them. Don't waste your life wishing for a better camera if like the one you have.

D5600 announced with minimal changes as usual by Nikon's standards. Nikon's stills and video image is stellar. If only they would release a body with phase detection in live view, maybe even something mirrorless. And more APS-C prime lenses (especially for 35mm or wider equivalence). As it stands, I see Nikon tanking in the long term.

  12. @arourke and others: I suggest creating a "LUT" thread, inside the NX1/NX500 sub forum, and if anyone has any LUT and settings to provide, we can keep all that knowledge clean and tidy, over there. Great work Arourke, thank you.

  14. Had the opportunity to throw my modded FM and Kowa B&H in front of a Dragon for a promo for a hopeful Netflix series. Taking lens was a Nikon 35-70mm f3.5 @ f5.6/8 all day. Hoya 1.2 ND inside the FM, in front of the Kowa. Shot at 5.5k 6:5. The glass really holds up.

Yeah, the ergos are nice. A lot of profile option for that 35mbps codec though:) It´s not my camera. Friends and me got it from school to shoot with. It sure doesnt like purple gels though:) Lumix G6 was more forgiving. Maybe saturation was too high. By the way, another digital oddity would be the Canon Powerhot Elph 300 (Ixus 220 HS). It even has stabilization and is hackable with chdk hack. no info about manual video though.

  19. Panasonic cameras let you shoot video down to 1/2s shutter speed. You must use M-mode and manual focus. Better would be if the camera would automatically go to "slow SS mode" without the need of setting everything to manual.

  21. Lets not forget that EUA is not a democracy, it never was. It's plutocracy. The only positive thing on the election of of Trump is the none election of Hilary. But these doesn't mean Trump is a solution, by the contrary, Trump is very dangerous. So I think Resistance has to start now. I know americans like to say god bless america, but if I where you, I would put my faith i God, I would instead say that the supreme court bless america, and I hope that this big problem may serve as way of bringing people together, interested on their political system, and on how to change it from a plutocracy to a real democracy that is indeed representative of the people. A government of the people, by the people and for the people. And also a government that delivers an affordable small camera that records 12bit 4444 in 8k with a very efficient codec that makes small files, ready to go and easy to edit.

    Premiere Pro CC 2017 Released

Just finished a wedding edit on the new version. I'm pleased. Seems a bit snappier and less prone to slowdown even once the project/timeline gets really big. 4K seems to edit a little easier. The last version had memory leak issues, which was driving me nuts. Really happy with this version so far (fingers crossed)

  24. I picked up some tips from this video too. Have you tried shooting in manual mode with 1/30 shutter?

  25. Does anyone know why Panasonic has limited its shutter speed to 1/30 in video mode? Here's an interesting video I picked up today... a lot of it was review for me, but I learned one or two things from it that made me rethink how I shoot.

    Your ideal NX1 Settings

I was curious about the saturation, it should be less neon with the suggested settings I listed. All of the settings have a "beta" tag on the names currently. I plan on updating the settings to work for other in camera settings (Normal Gamma, Gamma C, etc), once they are more finalized. Just a quick preview of the ungraded video, accuracy/general lut, canon/1dx lut, and classic chrome lut. I am pretty happy with the general lut and 1dx. The classic chrome works well for landscape/city scapes, but I still have some luminance issues with skin tone to adjust. nx1dx-cs-beta.cube GammaDR-ar_custom-beta.cube chrome-beta.cube

  27. Yeah. And it seams it will keep going up. But maybe we are also near a big crash, so who knows? I for sure wouldn't buy now. I think in this times in the industry of prosumer cameras the best is to buy second hand, the depreciation of tech is hugely fast. You can buy a camera 8 months after the release and pay half or less.

  28. That would be yuge. Really great. The best camera. The best. I gotta say though Ed, surely you sensed this coming. You have an unvarnished view of Clinton. And anyone that's spent time in the rural midwest and then really looked hard at Hillary...well...considering that she had this locked up was never a reassuring thing. Americans are many things, but attracted to the pragmatic aloof intellectual? Eh, not so much. In regards to cameras and production, I am curious to see what the economy does as this odd amalgamation of Trump and the GOP burp out their supply-side ideas onto the nation. If the economy withers, will the corporate gigs get even thinner and anemic than they are now? Or, would potential self distribution of my work become somehow more viable? After all, the one industry that tends to thrive during tough economic times has always been entertainment.

  29. Fine resolution settings - i mean there is ability to change recording resolution in smaller steps, around 30 pixels or so.. Normally it was 2880 x something and next 3540 x something, now you can choose many options in between. So you had continous 2880 and than couple of seconds of 3540. Now it is very nice to adjust horizontal resolution precisely. I use 5d3 and it has no problems with pink artifacts, i dont know about 7d but i think it doesnt have fully working version yet. And i use old version of mlvfs on pc - the one with pismo, i just quick-mount mlvs and open them in resolve, no extracting.

    Damaged SD Card

Hi there, My SD card died about a month ago. It is Sony 128GB Class 10 UHS-1/U3 SDXC card with full of media(videos and pictures of 1 month eurotour in 10 countries). Computer can`t detect it. So the hardware is dead. I tried professional file recover service and they also failed to recover my files. Is there any other way which I can try? I`m not a tech guy but theoriticly is it possible to move only the part of the card from inside where the files are saved and move in to another card(which would be visible to computer) and access it that way? Also I`ve read some info about putting it in freezer about 15 minutes.. Does it really works?

  31. I have done some measurments of recording times with the newest build (with fine resolution settings) Everything tested with 24fps 10bit on 5d3 113, CF sandisk extreme pro 128gb 160mb/s. 1320 is the maximum vertical resolution for 5d3 when recording raw video. 3168x1320 2.40:1 (1.81x crop) - 14 sec 3104x1320 2.35:1 (1.85x crop) - 18 sec 3104x1298 2.39:1 (1.85x crop) - 21 sec 3008x1280 2.35:1 (1.91x crop) - 38 sec 3008x1258 2.39:1 (1.91x crop) - 56 sec 2976x1266 2.35:1 (1.93x crop) - 60 sec 2976x1246 2.39:1 (1.93x crop) - 123 sec 2880x1226 2.35:1 (2x crop) - continous And wider aspect ratios - just for fun: 3520x1320 2.67:1 (1,63x crop) - 6 sec 3296x1320 2.50:1 (1.74x crop) - 12 sec Now I would like to see the comparison: 5d3 vs 5d4 - raw 10bit 3008x1258 (quite usable recording time - 56 sec) vs MJPEG 8bit 4k. Not so much different crops - 1.91x 5d3 vs 1.7x 5d4. Similar bitrates. That would be very interesting.

  32. Good to hear! Might make the 12-35mm f/2.8 great again ( ). Yeah, I went with the comparable Olympus, because I figured, if I'm going to get the E-M1, I might as well go for the kit and save me some casheroos on the stunning lens and not get the Panasonic. Then when the 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO came out, had to get it. Especially because of its rectilinear design and quality of the lens (over the Panasonic counterpart). Still would like the 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO with teleconverter as well, but you know... 1500 bucks and I already have the Panasonic 100-300mm that I actually quite like. Great thing though is now we have a bit more freedom with the built-in stabilization. We can pick glass as we please.

There's still an EX1 around here! One of the greatest video cameras of all time. Typical Sony, all the lettering was off after a few months purchased new! Other than that, incredible camera, and survived a lot of abuse.
