  1. Hahaha, most probably. That forum is a dick sucking contest to rationalize spending 40.000$ on a camera and still being a 40 years old men with no clue about image making.

  2. Good schtuff. Just... most looked like it could've been really well shot/extracted Canon 1080p. Or maybe that's because I've gotten used to hyperreal detail in cameras such as the GH4/NX1 by now.

  7. close. it's a rode videomicro. $60. i originally bought it for the pocket to get better reference audio. it's very, very good. I actually haven't tried the micro cinema camera's mic yet to compare the two. But I hear it's improved over the Pocket.

  8. I don't understand how a 4k option would at all, impact those who don't use the video function. I also don't understand why 1000 people feel the need to vote "I don't care" if they truly don't care. It is annoyingly passive-aggressive.

Thanks Panny, but I think a lot of people on this board that would disagree with your first two sentences. But I think that would be a great challenge. I've never used the FZ1000, but it seems like a fun little camera. That's what I like about the FZ300... OIS, full manual control, all of the picture profiles and control that are present in the G7, Mic input, impeccable continuous af. It's a camera you can just pick up and go and run and gun some decent footage.

    Lenses

Ultra wide is defined as anything wider than 24mm, so it kinda is. The SLR Magic 10mm is a FANTASTIC lens. In fact, the whole lineup gets my highest recommendation--and those of you who know me know I'm picky about my glass.

  15. I wonder on a couple of things, Pg.44 "Zoom can be adjusted while recording" Meaning, you can punch in on your subject while in a record mode? Pg. 153 restrictions, this luminance thing may be because that gamma range is set to auto by default, I'd hope Fuji would allow for the other two settings in video. All the MF-Assists, Digital split image, and the rest are defeated in video. It would be cool if they release a lot of that list to the video mode as well. If you're viewing his raw files from the race track, you'll need to re-set the luminance levels, as this camera, for whatever reason, has a bug that crushes the blacks something fierce. I've tweaked these files in FCPX with Color Finale, and I'm seeing a very nice image. Sure, it isn't perfect, Yes, they have a ways to go, but it's still a pretty decent image none-the-less!

    Guess the Camera

It is the FZ300. To be fair, I shot this entirely flat... Natural with everything dialed down and with the lens wide open. The screen grab, I underexposed 1-2 stops and the video I exposed to the right. I did very minimal work in post, so there obviously isn't much latitude. I think in the hands of a more skillful person, this camera could get some good images. Plus it's a blast to shoot with.

  18. sooo, I did the test with the Gopro. Now it's clear, it's not a gimbal problem, it's a RX10II problem. The Gopro footage looks smooth while the RX10II looks partially really terrible. The big question is: is it lens related, is the sensor related, or something else? I hope someone from Sony can give a statement on this. This would help a lot of customers the choose the right camera for aerial shots. I upload the comparison between the RX10II and the GoPro later. BTW, this is my test setup:

  19. I don't get the fascination with "cages" - it adds hundreds every time you get a new body. I've been using the same rails & baseplate setup for a couple years now. Though I don't stick a microphone on my camera, I kinda like it next to the talent (for true event and run & gun shooting without a boom op, I use a "real video camera" with mics and XLRs and NDs). I once stuck a battery-powered cheap lav inside the front of one of my rails for synch when i couldn't get a recorder-out working with a motion shot and it sounded about as good as any other mic stuck to the camera, and was invisible - I'll probably make that permanent for when I'm moving too much. I have a little 15mm rail clamp with a lock for two cables, that gets 8" HDMI and camera-in-extensions with female ends, so I'm not fiddling with the camera ports to hook up. Haven't spent a dime on camera rigging in a couple years now.

  23. I tend to agree. Other than the aliasing, I see bad highlight control & plastic skin tones. I love Fuji for stills, but for using it for video ? No way. I could live with the sub-par quality of E-M1 because of the class leading IBIS, but for me Fuji offers nothing in the video department. Is it AWB that is so important? I cannot see the pleasing colors that Fuji stills have. And if it is the filters that are nice, I already made LUTs that get you there if you want to. Its nice that they improved the video over previous Fuji cameras but they still have long way to go. Anyway, to each his own.

    4K for Nikon D5

The Sony A7s had more noise in silent shutter mode according to people who measured the read noise in the raw files. With some Panasonic cameras (I think GM1?) there was only 10bit instead of 12bit read out in electronic shutter mode. So I think it really depends on the camera model. The rolling shutter is of course a general downside they all share, agreed.

  33. Nikon will be removing the tiny 4K time limit on the D5 in a future firmware update I read on NR. As for the issues with the D5/D500, have we forgotten already how *bad* the first ever HDSLR was from Nikon? But then fairly quickly they got ok, and then eventually surpassed Canon. I reckon the same will be true with 4K, this is just their first 4K camera. Give them a little more time and we'll see a Nikon D5700 come out eventually which does wonderful 4K for cheap!

  34. Vimeo seems to be run by disorganised hippies. I hope they listen to content creators who want viewing quality at a premium and work out a workable model to continue a platform that is not as cluttered and commercial as YouTube. But I fear since every man and his dog now wants to stream 4-8K and UHD content, the costs that are involved are forcing a considerable squeeze on Vimeo's revenue. I often encountered buffering issues in the past when streaming 1080p content on Vimeo (over average internet connection)...but I've simply paused and waited it to fill to resume. I don't think the YT crowd would accept that as much, and it seems that Vimeo see the future as a rival to them...rather than focus on their main appeal to creatives - a quality, uncluttered platform without obnoxious ads all over the place. Vimeo was like Betamax, a far superior viewing experience...but is losing out to VHS (YT) because it's cheaper/ better resourced/ better promoted by its owner (Google) and more recognisable to the dumb masses. Unfortunatly the quality squeeze that is apparent with Vimeo will only get worse, unless they radically rework their income methods or get bought out and made into a paid subscription service for one of the big boy streaming services. I used to send clients private Vimeo links, now I use frame.io - as it is a very slick method to communicate and share a workspace for creative projects. Highly recommend this to those who often send clients WIP's or viewing copies for sign off of feedback rounds: https://frame.io/

  36. I do not think this is an issue with the NX1. This is more of an issue with having too short of a shutter speed. this is almost inevitable with 120p and even 60p if you are following the 180deg rule.

  38. It sure looks nice My old hometown actually. Im about two hours away now. How long are you here, you should browse blocked and score some used gear. You can almost always get 50-70% of the new price on used Panasonic stuff. Here is a search for "panasonic" in Stockholm. Im sure the sellers would meat you at the central station. And remember, their prices are always just "asking", always low ball http://www.blocket.se/stockholm/ljud_bild/foto_Videokameror?q=Panasonic&w=1&st=s&ca=11&is=1&l=0&md=th&cg=5040&st=s&c=5042

  40. There is no graph that shows this info for all the color profiles unfortunately. My simpliplic generalisation is Cinema for less saturated colors, Pro for more saturation in low contrast scenes, rec709 for extreme light conditions with different light sources or very very low contrast (low light with cloudy sky for instance). There are some tests on color accuracy with A7s profiles like this one: http://similaar.com/foto/flaat-a7s/technical-tests.html#color And there are some useful general info on the color information of sony cameras: http://www.xdcam-user.com/2014/05/what-is-a-gamut-or-color-space-and-why-do-i-need-to-know-about-it/ http://www.dvinfo.net/article/acquisition/sonyxdcam/my-cinegear-presentation-on-the-sony-f55-part-1.html Also here is the place to get more info on the Sony color profiles and how to tune them as you wish (very helpful): https://docs.sony.com/release/Help_C198100111.pdf

  42. For the crop at 4k, the lack of fast lenses below 18mm and lack of a 24-70mm equivalent lens would make it a hard buy for some people (mainly documentary-ists). But I agree, other than that it looks to be an excellent camera. I find the DR and colour of the D5500 to be more pleasing than my c100 ii. The only other thing holding it back is the pricetag. Quite high by today's standards.

  43. Not yet, just that opening slider shot but it was so damn windy. Didn't bring a stabilized lens so I had to skip the slider for the rest of the video. Will shoot more vintage this week and use a slider. Hopefully test out the s16 mode as well with C-mounts.

  45. So I was offered a 1DC with low number of clicks and for $600 less than the current price of a A7rii retail. I thought "What that heck, if its bad I can probably turn profit by selling it". Ive only used it out and about twice so far. Also for a product review. And to be honest, I don't think its a keeper for me. The reasons are: Awesome image, truly great. But imo the 5D Mark 3 Raw matches it. Lower res but better color and lower crop. Even at the low price, a used 5D is half the price. The 5D is much easier to use due to zebras, raw meter, etc, etc, etc. The 5D is smaller but I like the big size of the 1DC. Easily fixed with a battery grip. The 5D workflow is tougher in post, needs converting. But worth it for the Raw imo. Ive been offered a used c100ii or two c100i for the same price. And those where my reasons against the 5D. But if you dont care about Raw or to have "Canon Colors" there are tons of cameras in the same price range that will make your shooting so much easier. As some might know I currently have the LS300 on loan for review. And today I had both in the garden just shooting random stuff in the bright sun. It is of course night and day in workflow between a fully featured camcorder and a mostly equipped DSLR. And at the end of the day, watching the footage Im not seeing a big enough difference. The 1DC looks nicer imo, no question. But not that much better. Im not saying that I will buy the LS300, 5D or c100. But Im pretty sure I won't keep the 1DC. Maybe I change my mind after some more testing but the initial thought is, not for me. Here is the LS300 and 1DC. Same lens same settings JVC 1DC JVC 1DC And two short tests, 1DC JVC For reference, 5D Mark3 with a soft vintage Nikkor lens.

Smearing and distortion also gave it away. Although some wide anamorphics do have that as well.

  47. 12mm is pretty wide. I have a speedbooster on it that makes it nearly equivalent to a Super35 sensor, which is a field of view I'm more used to. and I have it rigged like this currently. when i go shoulder mounted the monitor gets rigged to the front with a Noga arm connected to two handles, and a shoulder pad slides onto those rear rods where the monitor is now. whole thing weighs roughly 7lbs and that's a fairly heavy lens on it. it's just enough weight to counter "micro jitters" without making it a beast to lug around.

    Guess the setup?

I'm gonna use that for my resume, if you don't mind! hahahahaha! The WB change was THE main thing that got me on the iPhone track, then I started to notice the rolling shutter and that could only come from a phone. Not many phones have anamorphic adapters and shoot 4k at the same time, so... But it looks really nice, in terms of color and exposure. I suppose it doesn't do such a good job in low light, does it?

  50. Someone please tell my why a power zoom would adjust focus It doesn't have a focus rocker on it, only a power zoom rocker... Something that should be on the lens for free anyway, like with all the other power zoom lenses from Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, etc. Canon saw yet another money spinning opportunity to charge us for a zoom rocker. Pathetic.
