    • Imagine Cuba - A7R II / RX100 IV / Pilotfly
Hi guys,  I have been using the A7R II and the RX100 IV for travel in Cuba, check my video if you want to see the result.  So far I loved the RX100 for the slowmo (I filmed everything in 120fps with it) and the A7R II was good too. The IBIS is not great but better than nothing especially when you dont have an IS lens.
No overheating problem (this is mostly a problem for people who record long times). The biggest problem that made me sell it is ergonomics (body and menus, ..). It is atrocious.  Also I am very disappointed with the AF. Actually my 2 biggest challenges during my trip for video were focus and ergonomics shits of the A7R. Having to set everything all the time was a pain, and the AF was not satisfying. I had no time for manual focus for the type of shots I did so missed a lot of shots because of this. I did focus manually 25% of the time though but it was a pain too.
The only solution for me is DPAF from Canon or A6300 AF (I did not try it).  Rolling shutter is insane on the A7R.
I used the 60p FHD mode sometimes and also the FF mode instead of crop mode sometimes without noticing a big difference.
I used a Pilotfly H1+ that was ok. Used it only for the RX100.

The good thing is the combo RX100/gimbal 120fps and the A7R II for DoF shots and 4k.

Who has used this combo successfully?
What do you think about the video? I feel horrible about how Vimeo destroyed it, the original file is SO clean on my screen... But I guess we are all in the same basket here.

    • Why the 2 new Tamron SP are game changers for video
"Game changing" …mmm, drama! Test reports are so-so, with fringing and onion bokeh. I bought my first Sigma lens in 1995 or so, a 28-70 2.8 AF zoom that was just OK. They've certainly come a long way, and as far as Tamron goes, it's good to see aftermarket glass with good motors and VR or IS.  But Sigma cold be said to have changed the game as far as lens technology and price/value, showing that Nikon/Canon and the classic Euro shops are no longer the only game in town for IQ, and doing it for a reasonable price. Which leads the question: is Nikon and Canon glass overpriced? Hard to say - much of it is pretty damn expensive, but many of their lenses are best-in-class. I have several Nikkors that I've used for two decades, stills and now video, and they're tremendously good lenses, some approaching their 30th birthdays. But Nikon's pricing feels more ridiculous every year. Game changing to me is going to be no-compromise on features and IQ, at 30 - 50% less than the big guys. I don't own any Samsung S zooms, but they're very highly regarded and as far as I know, they did it from scratch (and overnight compared to Sigma & Tamron). Apparently it can be done.
    • Your ideal NX1 Settings
Could only check the cam now, here are the settings : Normal Gamma | Saturation -4 | Sharpness -10 | Contrast - 3 | Master Black Level +15 (this is still to be tweaked, maybe at 8-10 should be better to avoid banding). These are def. my fav settings so far, they remind me a lot of canon flat profile, and already look good on its own, even better graded.
    • 2013 MacBook Pro - OSX 10.8.5 - Premiere Pro 8.2.0 - Software Update Before I Continue Editing?
…and after the last few major upgrades I've done, I've learned that grownups CAREFULLY SAVE THEIR PURCHASE CODES for plugins… the serial numbers or whatever, the download link, and a master list of plugins for everything, all in one place. It can be months after an upgrade and I'm mixing in protools and realize "that vintage comp emulation would be tits on this"… and it's not there… grrrr. Trying to remember to do that every time I buy something. One thing I miss about the previous Mac Pro? All those places for hard drives. It was so easy to pop in an SSD and boot back and forth - and still have your older OS drive accessible if you needed to dig through the library or whatever.
