  1. Funny how the competitor camera's inferior IS can selectively stabilize only certain parts of the image: the background is sharp and woman is not.

  2. Same same imo. It could even be the difference in angle and they are actually identical. But, if we say the V is better and this image is correct. Both are still bad enough for me to answer "yes" if someone asks "Does it have terrible RS that I need to take into consideration when using it handheld?". So the best case scenario is that one has bad rolling shutter and the other has a tad worse. Its like having two boxes of milk, one is a week old and the other eight days. But both are still usable. I have had the Samsung NX1 and own a RX100iv which both have terrible RS, still very usable cameras imo. I would even go as far as saying the a6300 which have the worst RS I've ever seen in my life is workable. But in no way does the rx100v compare to a global shutter. A BMPCC which walks all over that rx100v footage in terms of RS still feels like a jello bonanza compared to a GS. PS. History of the forum dictates that I better point out that I'm not ripping on the camera nor of the children to those who are considering a purchase. All I'm saying is that imo they haven't reduced the RS enough for me to give it any extra attention. Maybe someone can show a test that shows some real difference because the one above was not very convincing. It is ok to disagree.

  3. If it finishes being like this with a decent tracking and without the distracting hunt I'm sold. I mean, I'm there already throwing money to the screen, but I must be doing something wrong; still no camera. I can't imagine how the people waiting for the GH5 feel!

  4. I opened my lens cabinet and realized there's too much in there. Some must go! Lenses will be shipped from Vancouver, BC - Canada. I only accept PayPal. PayPal's taxes and shipping are my responsibility. If interested, reply here, send me a PM, or an email! ferradans@gmail.com --- ELMOSCOPE II - 2x STRETCH - WITH CUSTOM CLAMP Photos of this lens - https://www.flickr.com/photos/ferradans/albums/72157671771429074 The Elmoscope II is a top notch projection lens. It has 2x stretch and focuses down to 1.5m. The strong stretch factor delivers the famous anamorphic bokeh, and the simple coatings produce yellow-orange warm flares. It works perfectly for shooting 4:3, as the GH4 Anamorphic Mode, or MagicLantern RAW on Canon cameras. Or by cropping the sides of 16:9 footage. It really shines when attached to a single focus solution (Rectilux or Rangefinder), so you can keep your taking lens and anamorphic set to infinity and do all the focusing on Rectilux or Rangefinder. If not, you'll have to deal with double focus, meaning focusing the anamorphic and the taking lens at the same distance in order to produce a sharp image. The last photo shows a side by side comparison of both the Elmo II and the Kowa B&H, one of the most desired anamorphic adapters. Many people claim these two are identical, but the Elmo II tends to go for a much lower price while the Kowa fetches around $900 to $1000. This Elmoscope II is in great shape, with a smooth focus ring and glass in perfect condition. It comes with the original front cap as well as a custom made clamp for support (it has a 1/4" screw for attaching to your camera rig) that lets you set alignment for good instead of realigning every time you switch taking lenses. PRICE: USD 560 (shipped) --- PANASONIC LA7200 - 1.33x STRETCH - WITH CUSTOM FILTER HOLDER (95mm) Photos of the lens - https://www.flickr.com/photos/ferradans/albums/72157671779697223The The Panasonic LA7200 is a great anamorphic adapter for starters and for those looking for extreme sci-fi flares and not much work in post. Stretch is 1.33x, which means any camera shooting 16:9 (1080p or 2160p) will output perfect Cinemascope footage for post, without the need for cropping anything out. The strong aspects of this lens are how wide you can go (around 28mm on full frame with no vignetting), the futuristic blue streak flares, and the quick and easy setup. It features 72mm threads at the back, so it can easily connect to any lens without the need for additional gear. Being a fixed focus adapter - it doesn't have a focus ring - you adjust focus using your taking lens, as you would normally without the adapter. Performance isn't great at fast apertures, but sharpens up nicely around f/4. Glass is in pristine condition, no scratches, dust or fungus. Comes with both front and rear caps as well as the original pouch. This one comes with a custom-made filter holder and 95mm threads for attaching diopters and step rings for other filters. You can read a detailed review of this lens at my blog! http://www.tferradans.com/blog/?p=7877 PRICE: USD 775 (shipped) --- PANASONIC LA7200 - 1.33x STRETCH - WITH ORIGINAL BOX Photos of the lens - https://www.flickr.com/photos/ferradans/albums/72157675188015976 Same as above, minus the filter holder. This one comes with the original box. Glass in perfect shape, body with no scuffs, both front and rear caps, original pouch. The original locking screw was lost and replaced with a different one (can be seen in photos). Works just as well. PRICE: USD 745 (shipped)

  5. I've been into modding my Russian primes lately and ended up with too many mods. So I'm selling sets of them. Lenses are being shipped from Vancouver - BC (Canada). Payment through PayPal only, and shipping is already included in the price. These were tweaked to fake the anamorphic look (anamorfake) through the addition of an oval aperture disc, a flare thread INSIDE the lens and tinting of various bits and pieces to make them unique. I have two sets. One with polished glass, resulting in less contrast, more bloom and a more diffused look overall, and a non-polished set, in which I didn't alter the original glass for better contrast and color rendition. I'm keeping one of my non-polished sets, so now you know which one is my favorite. The tint applied is amber, for an endless magic hour. Since nobody buys weird optics without seeing tests first I took them around the block for another sunset - not as dramatic as the Helios'. Color correction has been kept to a minimum (curves for contrast and boosted up saturation, since I shot at SLog3). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLZkIlnzjYM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lrl1ZejekY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3OEBmrBdVU AMBER 3-LENS SET (polished or unpolished) Photos of the lenses - https://www.flickr.com/photos/ferradans/sets/72157675191311296 Tech specs: Each set consists of three lenses, Mir 1B (37mm f/2.8 - aprox f/4), Helios 44-2 (58mm f/2 - aprox f/2.8) and Jupiter 9 (85mm f/2 - aprox f/2.8). The second aperture values are because of the oval disc inside, which limits maximum light transmission. They all feature 49mm filter threads, non-rotating front element while focusing, clickless (preset) aperture rings. All lenses come with front and rear caps. Focus and iris rings are smooth. Multiple elements and inner parts have amber accents for flaring and tone. All three lenses have oval aperture discs inside (while maintaining fully operational apertures) and inner red flare threads for better anamorfaking. They're natively M42 mount, but come with a rotating M42 to EF adapter so you can realign the oval and flare according to your wishes. Lenses are fitted with seamless focus gears. The Mir 1B has also been modified for a little bit more of close focusing. As for the original lenses, they're all non-MC models with black bodies. PRICE: USD600 (shipped) --- HELIOS 44 MODDED. AMAZING CONDITION Photos of the lens - https://www.flickr.com/photos/ferradans/albums/72157671783410163 In the process of making these, I came across a VERY GOOD, warm coated Helios 44 (not 44-2) that I modded too.I'm selling this one separately from the other modded Helios 44-2 for a few reasons. First, because this is a Helios 44, predecessor to the 44-2. Second, mechanical condition. This is the smoothest and nicest feeling Helios I've ever had. I fought the idea of selling it for almost three months, but since I don't use it, it has to go. There's a bit of oil on the blades, but nothing that affects performance. Third, the golden coatings. While most Helios are either neutral or blue/purple-ish, this one has a strong amber tint. I considered harvesting the glass for a mod, but I also couldn't bring myself to do it as it would be hard to match it with other coatings. Since the coatings are so nice, I didn't polish it at all, or modded its inner parts. All I added was a subtle oval aperture with light orange tint and a light orange (almost beige) streak thread inside, to fake the anamorphic look and give it a colorful spin when light sources are inside the frame. The original aperture still works perfectly. The lens comes with a M42 to EF adapter and rear cap. The front thread was slightly bent so I jammed a thin 49-52mm step-up ring to fix the issue. Lastly, another upgrade from the standard mods, this one comes with seamless follow focus gears. Silver to match the lens. These were designed and 3d-printed by myself, and are tightly fit to the lens. Both front and rear elements have a few marks, but nothing that shows up in the resulting images. Very sharp at maximum aperture - I'm repeating myself - this is one of the best Helios I came across. It has a more subtle effect and tint, but the images follow the same base as the ones posted above. PRICE: USD165 (shipped) --- LASTLY, if you don't wanna buy one, you can make your own by following my tutorials. 9. 10-bit is definitely awesome specially with a real Log, but I'd rather have 60p raw for photo and phase instead of DFD and JPEG until otherwise corrected . My problem with the RX100V is that it makes the Olympus not so insane but you have to buy several cameras if you want to do different stuff. Selfie Vlogging RX100, photo-video a6500, dual card oh-no-crap-the-SD-failed-in-the-ceremony system a99II. I guess people will still complain about the small sensor and bigger DOF but all what Oly is offering in one single camera in contrast with all the money you have to spend with Sony makes Olympus look revolutionary! I should shut up, I'm pumping up myself

  10. I saw another (promo) video of the Olympus. It seems to have excellent auto focus for video and superb IBIS (IBIS + OIS). Though Panasonic may not let it have 10-bit internal (that only the GH5 may have). After the release of the RX100v (that supposedly does 24fps with continuous autofocus), 15fps (18 electronic?) with continuous autofocus seems still decent (though not insane anymore). I am also wondering whether the Dynamic Range has been improved. Overall this seems like the best mirrorless camera for Street and Sports Photography (including ones by Sony).
    1 point
  11. Presumably the IBIS on the G80/85 is similar to the one on the GX80/85 and there it works great. Here is an example of using a handheld manual 135mm lens (100mm after focal reduction) using IBIS only and no post image stabilization: However the Sigma may be a problem, I tried to use the Sigma 50-100mm F 1.8 but the Metabones Speed Booster seems to disable IBIS.

  15. Thanks for your kind words. If you would have read my comment properly you would have seen that I am totally fine with the grade IF it was wanted. Since no additional comment was given about that here, we can just give feedback based on what we get. And in the end, why should one post a video here if not for the reason of feedback?

  16. If you had actually read my posts.... I was very clear about expressing an opinion, so no, Im not wrong, I just have a different opinion than you. Deal with it. You would have also seen that I did freeze and post a frame that to me looked "same same". Sure there might be some minor improvement but still a jello-cam. And it the improvement could have been mearly the angle. And I was also very clear about it being ok to disagree. Just because you think it looks much better doesn't make me think you are in the "right profession". I mean what did you think my job was, "Rolling Shutter Inspector"? If it has more or less RS is of no concern to me professionally. There is no way in hell we would ever use a RX100v for anything a smartphone couldn't do just as well. I have a rx100iv for family trips and would gladly switch to the V if I saw some major improvements. As of today I have seen no tests of the RS being dramatically improved. Its same same imo. And I was right in posting my "PS." in the last post and it seems I must do it again because as we know, cameras is so so so sensitive and important that everyone has to agree on everything or be enemies PS. History of the forum dictates that I better point out that I'm not ripping on the camera nor of the children to those who are considering a purchase. All I'm saying is that imo they haven't reduced the RS enough for me to give it any extra attention. Sony Will Announce the A6500

You are wrong, both cameras are in the same position and angle. You can freeze the frame and compare it yourself in more parts of this video. The best part where you can see the real life difference in cameras behavior and jello effect is at time 0:26-0:29. If you don't see any difference, maybe you are in the wrong profession...

  18. I agree that Tv Mode is useful, but I'd like to have access to exposure lock and exposure compensation without going into the menu. But maybe I just need to get used to using the joystick. As a handheld, run and gun, below the radar camera the XC10 is epic (aside from image ghosting issues which drive me nuts when I see them). It's so small and light that you can walk around all day with it in your hands getting acres and acres of usable footage in a very casual manner. It's so ugly that it looks like a bridge camera from 2004, and this means that people are likely to think you're just another tourist. Just add bum bag [fanny pack] to complete the effect

  20. I use a lot the Ronin M with a 1Dx II. With the extension rod I got a good balance of the 1Dx II so that when I switch lens I only need to adjust the dove tail that takes between 30 sec and 2 minutes (16-35 2.8, 50 1.2, 24 1.4). A full camera rebalance like moving from a C100 to a GH4 it is much more time consuming. My first balance took me like 40 minutes. The Ronin M works really well but be aware that it gets heavy quickly and you always need to carry around the support to rest the ronin during takes if not you will be dead after 15 minutes or soo…. I wish there was a way to put the ronin m down without this stupid tripod. IMO is almost impossible to use it without and external LCD because you tend to use the gimbal at waist level so you cannot really see well the on camera lcd. The ronin m supports a upside-down mode and there the camera tends to be at eye level but you need a camera that supports live image rotation because the camera will be hanging top down. The 1dx II supports this feature (although the overlay info are still upside-down). It is still hard to see the lcd but for an emergency is doable. I power the external lcd from the ronin m to save some battery weight and having a single button to turn on screen and gimbal is a plus for me. You will need to research a bit on the C100 II on the ronin m because I belive it has a bit of a problem with the C100 viewfinder but not sure the current status when using the extension rods. I think a pistol grip style is already too hard for a GH4 + lens weight and is for sure a no go for a C100, it is already hard with two hands…

  25. The GoPro 5 is way ahead of mavic in term of IQ. You have full manual control, great Protune, the new Linear mode that looks great and so on. Better wider angle of view for landscape, etc. Mavic is great cause very small and good specs. Karma is great because of the detachable camera and gimbal. 2 good drones, depend on your use.

  30. That Pilotfly H2 would work pretty sweet, no? Single pistol grip, or configure it with the optional handlebar. Mount it onto something and remote control it. Came-TV has some similar stuff. But my memory is pretty decent, so I remember you posting the following: ... that seemed to have worked out pretty well? So what exactly calls for this wanting to change things up? More stability and weight distribution with two handles?

  34. HI everybody! Long time ago I shared my first Teaser and also some Super 16mm shots from my Feature, "Black or White". After all this time we finally made it so i wanted to share the official trailer. The film is beginning it's festival tour this November so we are hoping to make it travel around the world, finger crossed Activate ENGLISH subs!!! And here on Vimeo for those who don't like Youtube: If you are wondering, yes.. We shot all the film on Nikons D7100 and D5300. A little old by now (we started 3 years ago) with all the 4k cameras around, but i think the look holds pretty well. There is also some Super 16mm footage.

  37. Thanks! Hercules is great for product shoots but it's a little fiddly to control as it only has one button and many settings. Would love it if they made an updated version with smartphone control. Some of the shots are also a bit wobbly and I'm not sure why, could be the IBIS though. If you're going to use the rail on a tripod it needs to be a steady one. Didn't work well with the gorilla pod, I used a Benro alu tripod . Small primes like PL 15mm and 25mm on the GX85 works very well with Hercules. It can tip over with bigger/ longer lenses so be careful. Haven't shot so much at night yet, but it holds really well up to 1600 ISO and pretty good at 3200. Did you see the ISO video I posted in this topic? Or @jase festival video?

  38. There is also a third model which I think Sony has taken (it's also quite a new approach). Don't you think Sony delivers features but a lot of the time they're not 100% reliable like on Canikons? They're unreliable to the point that some people after initial OHs and WOWs switch back. The third model is based around Lean startup method in which you intentionally release lower quality products in order to improve them later on.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lean_startup). The idea is to get a "good enough" product on the market ASAP and improve it over time (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lean_startup#Minimum_viable_product). This way you can release cutting edge technologies earlier and more often, cut the costs (less testing time etc) and get feedback from customers earlier. The downsides we all know, don't we ;)? We're all unpaid beta testers all the time in a way. There is also something called split testing in which "different versions of a product are offered to customers at the same time" - sounds familiar, doesn't it? It'll be interesting to see which model will come out first in the end, though!

  39. Not saying it can't be done, though there is no point coming up with a whole new form factor for a slight change in resolution. Sony seems to have made a decision with all the current sensors to optimise for video, and 6K -> 4K downsample seems to give a mighty fine image. Is 6.5K -> 4K going to be any better? The 24MP APS-C sensor is already the same pixel size as the 42 MP FF sensor, i.e. pretty high resolution. My guess is that down the line the 42 MP sensor will be developed into an 8K video sensor. There is a logic behind these numbers, not just picking a high number for the sake of it.
    1 point
  40. If you have watched Sony's sensor development for any time, you would notice they don't change resolution that often. They establish a sensor form factor and gradually evolve it. The current batch (apart from the 24MP full frame which is a throw back to the A99, Nikon D600 series etc) are optimised for video resolutions. The 42MP is an 8K sensor that gives a cleaner line skip result for 4K. The S35 crop of the 42MP sensor is essentially the same as the APS-C 24MP sensor which can do full 6K readout. And 12MP on the A7S obviously works well for 4K. Anything in between will be a mess for video resolutions (see Canon). The question is whether the 24 MP full frame sensor has reached the end of its potential.

  41. I have almost exactly this. The Tascam DR-10CS with the Senn ME2. Its pairs really well. Very clean and loud. Gets the job done. But overall if you're an audio snob there its more of a utility mic than a mic for someone looking to capturing the endearing nuances in someone's voice. If I were to vlog like Casey Neistat, I would do it with a Oktava MK 012 with a hypercardioid capsule powered by a irig pre with a Rode SC3 adapter straoght into the 80D. And for interviews on a budget I'd get a cheap boom for the Oktava and and a XLR extension for the same setup. It may look a little wonky, but it would sound a million times better than a Rode VideoMic.

  42. More for less is exactly what the GX80 is all about. Personally, I got the gx80 because I wanted to start out and be able to get a few primes after. It completely fits my needs. It's offering top-tier IQ with 4k in a small package, truly in the spirit of M43. I have reached my "good enough" camera.
    1 point
  43. Thanks for the comparison, the DR is clearly top notch in comparison to the two other cameras. I don't know what you think about the low light test, but with a bit of post work (sharpening and NR), I daresay that it even produces usable results beyond ISO4000. Up to now I haven't noticed any moiré or aliasing (unlike the C300, which would show aliasing in many fine detail shots). From the time the XC10 was announced to actually trying it out in the field for a couple of weeks now, my opinion about this camera has turned 180°.
