HDSLRs get competition from… a mobile phone?

Meet the Nokia mobile which does 24p. Sounds like a joke doesn’t it?

Nokia’s N8 has a specially developed sensor which is the largest ever found in a mobile device, and larger than all but the highest end compacts like the Panasonic LX3.

Check out the Wiki on Radiohead’s song for a good read. This is one of my favourite songs of all time.

Unfortunately Hong Kong was not the place to do it!!

New Panasonic lens adapter in development

Every wondered how the Sony Alpha series delivers a live view image from a very small sensor in the viewfinder housing without cropping, mimicking the field of view of the main CMOS, while enabling super fast phase detect AF at the same time? (Deep breath). Well, it seems Panasonic did wonder this, and plan to bring such innovations to a range of lenses previously not fully compatible with mirror-less bodies.

The adapter features electronics, a mirror system and phase detect AF chip. This allows auto-focus as well as full frame focal lengths with standard DSLR lenses on the Lumix G range.

Panasonic AF100 features uncompressed RAW video

I’ve rounded up some juicy quotes from Panasonic’s broadcast / pro division product manager which you may find interesting.

“This camera (the AF100) delivers an uncompressed HD output, if you want to by pass the AVCCAM codec, you may”

That’s good news to say the least. This means you can record uncompressed RAW 1080p on Nanoflash via HD-SDI. The biggest gains in HDSLR video is not going to be from incremental sensor improvements, but by a huge leap in image processing. How about aliasing? Does it line skip?

Land’s End – The Gingshang 600 – A GH1 Short

[vimeo]10949526[/vimeo]

Thought I’d do a Bob Dylan video!

Philip Bloom recently shot a short near the coast with the latest Panasonic broadcast camera – the HPX370. To see how the humble GH1 compares on a similar shoot I went along to see the north coast of Taiwan at Gingshang taking along my GH1 and simply the kit lens.
