    • Panasonic GX80 - 5 Axis IBIS works on video!
Last week I used my RX100 IV to test the best stabilization mode offered by that and although that one is limited to 1080p 50p, I think it does a pretty amazing job. Not as good as the GX80 obviously, but still I was very suprised. Unfortunately I dont have any clips to share since my Vimeo quota has been reached until next wednesday
    • 2013 MacBook Pro - OSX 10.8.5 - Premiere Pro 8.2.0 - Software Update Before I Continue Editing?
Well, here is the answer. Make a Timemachine backup of your current system (any external drive will do), and you are back there within half an hour if necessary.   Drag & drop works. Of course every new OS has some bugs. I always read bug reports before I update. But I update eventually. I have an office iMac with Mountain Lion, and though it's working fine it feels slow and antiquated in comparison. Staying with an old OS is not the Apple way ;-) Since Yosemite, the most dramatic change is the appearance. The system font changed from Lucida to Helvetica, which is harder to read on low res displays but easier on retina displays. El Capitan supports "metal" for most Macs built after 2012. Apples statement that it would make graphics up to ten times faster has been challenged, but an average boost of round about 30% has been reported, depending on system and software. My 2009 MP with GTX680 feels faster, but I didn't measure anything, may well be a placebo. The most annoying bug, NO BLUETOOTH, has allegedly been fixed with 10.11.2. Don't know, use no BT. I didn't find this bug description, but my WiFi and Lan-Connection failed reliably after a while since El Capitan. I tested different things and identified the cause: Adobe Flash. I deinstalled this. Only little AV content will not be played back through HTML5 (Firefox announced "Shumway", a plugin that will play the dubious rest too), and Flash is risky anyway. Do not install it, even (and particularly) if you are prompted to.
    • Canon if you read this.
Whether they can or not, they won't. A lot of people are still really happy with their current Canon equipment because they care less about image quality and have lower end needs. I've had my C100 since it was released and all I wish it did better was highlight dynamic range and internal codec. Most of the people I work with are low end users ($600-$1000/day, low six figure/year) so for them the extra cost of higher end storage isn't worth it. Editing in 4k is a LOT more expensive than 2k. For higher end users, I think most people I know go for an Alexa and attempt to raise their rate accordingly, but I get the frustration with camera size and battery life. An Alexa Mini that required less rigging and was actually affordable would be everyone's dream (though I suppose I only need 2k, whereas you'd want 4k+, but its internal 4k upscale isn't terrible). Unfortunately your needs exceed those of most and the market bears what it bears. We're dragging you down, sorry. I would just up your rate and try to afford an Alexa Mini.
    • The elephant in the room. Sony's operating income increased by 72,7%
This number includes their broadcast and cinema gears, and thats very big business. so we cant say A7 series are doing well just because Imaging department as a whole is doing well. of cours investors dont care, profit is profit, no matter came from where.
    • Petition for Samsung NX1 hack
This is the first version. It is faster than BT versions http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/57559389 Currently I am testing Kino Seeds mod, but I don't know yet if it is faster than Vasile's  first version (just the bitrate hack) Here Kino Seed explains little about the card speed and setting the bitrate http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/57688493
