  2. As I'm reading blueringer, My thought would be to model the adapter signals to the camera based on the nx lens that has the most features and fastest AF. Do you all think that is a reasonable idea?

  3. Great work on the speedbooster so far, great to see so much activity in regards to continuing what Samsung abandoned. The DIY community will be our only chance of seeing an electronic mount adapter for the NX, I cant see any companies (metabones, or even some of the newer chinese ones like Zhongyi), seeing this as an economically viable product. RockyMountains work is very interesting and I've been following his youtube channel for sometime. Without wanting to be an negative nancy, I think best case scenario we could end up with something like the earlier redrock adapters, with an external control unit. I happen to know a lot of engineers, including one that works for Thales Angenieux, I'll run the concept of a hardware adapter past them next I see them and see if I can get anyone to contribute.

  4. ihkim's site is unfortunately not very intelligible for me through google translate. While his English isn't perfect it is way way better than google translate and he seems to have set up another site (that is linked to from his blog) where he goes through what he knows of the protocol in English: http://blueringlab.com/ Unfortunately I have no interest in a speedbooster for Nikon lenses on NX. For Canon lenses, yes, and such a design could be shared for Nikon lenses. On the other hand though, a design for Nikon lenses that uses the extra space would not then work for Canon lenses.

  8. That would be probably a level shifter rather than a crude voltage divider. The power needed to run the conversion logic is so low that it shouldn't be a problem to just take it from camera body in the final revision of the intelligent SB (not running inefficient ATmega). Probably more along the lines of FPGA or an ARM (ultra low current Gecko maybe). Note that I haven't looked at the communication protocols so I don't know if it's a matter of simple lookup table or how much more number crunching needs to be done.

    Petition for Samsung NX1 hack

There are some potentially useful files for the AF in the NX30 open source firmware, just do a search of the extracted files for "lens" to find some interesting stuff. By my reading of the agreement when downloading the files I can't just tell you what's in there. I'm not sure if it tells us much more than ihkim's work, but it might fill in some values. If anyone doesn't know where to download those yet: http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=T&menu_item=photography&classification1=digital%20cameras I don't remember if these were still in the NX1/NX500 released files or not, that firmware is on my laptop at work and I don't want to download it again at the moment. Regarding my interest only in the Canon side of things, I own 0 Nikon lenses but quite a few Canon lenses, including now some long glass (400 f/2.8). Any optical design for the Canon will work for Nikon with only some length extension to the housing, but not vice versa if the Nikon design used that space. There are more Canon lenses that need the aperture control. So yes, a bit of a selfish interest, but that's how it is.

DBounce, I think you're kind of over-protective of your purchase decisions. Nonetheless, enjoy. BUT.... What are you going to think and/or say when the GH5 shows up with 6K @ 60p?

The reality is, there will be no C-log for 1DX II, period. Only C-log has true ZERO in-camera sharpening. Rolling shutter in 4K is 25ms for 1DC, 15ms for 1DX II.

  14. good stuff. I think if this blog wants to survive, and probably Andrew is tired of it (I would be too) - it should transition into talking about lenses, lighting, camera movement technology. I think as of now we are seeing a peak of what is possible with CMOS camera technology. All newer innovations to me as minor. But lighting and camera control tech continues to innovate, get cheaper, and get more beautiful. But like I said, I'm sure running this site is not fun anymore.

    Lighting question

I don't want to completely drown out the shade, I just want to brighten his face a touch. I'll be tracking him from 5 to 10' away. I have a couple small LED panels, I'll give them a go first, but I'm really looking for something similar to what... @Michael Coffee posted... A mini fresnel.

  18. That is strange. But looking at the second picture, i would say that you are too close to the TV - so perhaps the minimum is 5m not 5 feet. The light source shouldn't be covering the whole frame. The last pic looks like you're aimed at the wall. The Iscomorphot S8/x2 has a minimum of distance of 4/5m & the Widescreen 2000 is 5m - so it might be worth trying to focus at something further away. 5m is quite a distance & I had real trouble with this distance in my front room, so it took me a while to get things to focus. On a 5d2, you'll need something over 75mm. On APS-C or below a 50mm should be fine. If not try to contact QuickHitRecord - he's a really nice guy & might be able to point you in the right direction. Experiment - remember to adjust the taking lens, as sometimes the distances on these things aren't that accurate.

  19. I posted up on the Metabones page asking for smart adapter support. Feel free to follow up on my request there. Luca, fantastic work brother! Sign me up to your wait list. I want one. I am quoting myself above as a quick reference to anyone who needs access to the OEM NX1 firmware. Great job everyone! The progress is better than I could have ever imagined. Just signed up with FilmConvert today and got some tasty new NX1 profiles to work with. Loving life as an orphaned Samsung NX1 and NX500 owner right now!

Better DR for video with C Log. HDMI output options better. Special heatsink designed for 4K video. Super 35 mode. Compatibility with Canon Cine glass. And I'm sure internal juju that was tested and designed specifically for cinema. If you're not worried about any of these things then there is no reason to argue it really. Cinema5d did a test with both and 1DC still outperforms the 1DXII for video. https://***URL not allowed***/canon-1d-x-mark-ii-vs-canon-1d-c-which-one-shoots-better-video/

  22. I bought this lens just curious about the 1.5x~2x. But when I saw the distance scale are different from other anamorphic lens(longest is infinity). Then found it is as SLR rangefinder(shortest is infinity). So realize it contains a focus module. I tried to set prime lens in focus distance, won't get clear image. Must set to at infinity, then focusing by anamorphic lens only. The closest focus distance actually can go under 4M.

  23. without C-log, 1DX II has more chroma noise in the shadow compared to 1DC when shooting Prolost Flat profile.

  24. Probably because there is more Canon than Nikon lenses that need electronic control and a large number of the users on this forum will be most likely ex or current Canon users.

  25. It would be a gift from God if someone could make electric contact for Nikon speedbooster so the stabiliser at least works. But I am definitely fetching that dumb adapter non the less.

  26. Here is what Standard default looks like on a sunny day (NR -2): To me, that's what I saw, and what I wanted to convey. If you want something unrealistic with a "look" then you may want to use Natural as a base. But it is not at all clear whether you should also drastically reduce contrast, saturation and sharpness in the camera when you shoot, since altering those in post forces you do it on a highly compressed, 4:2:0 8-bit video. Camera settings, however, are invoked prior to compression. I think you should get the look you want in the camera (whatever that is), but others seem to want to do more in post based on severely altered from normal settings in the camera. Why not try to get the camera to produce the look you want (there are lots of controls), and then tweak in post from there, rather than trying to get a "blank slate" out of the camera that needs a lot of work in post? No flat setting really mimics RAW video. In any case I am not advocating your videos should look like the one I posted; it is just an example of what one setting produces.

  29. Yeah the focus through thing is one of those myths/lies that circulates - with these 8mm attachments, it's just wishful thinking. The Iscomorphot S8/x2, which is also fixed focus & it doesn't really play well with racking. But having said that, I've also got the Isco Widescreen 2000 & in order to rack with that you need a diopter +0.5/0.25 (a weak one) and then stop down the taking lens a little - worth a try if you've got the right diopter. Good luck

    Canon 1Dc $4,999

Huh? I would bet they've made a ton of money on the cinema line. In Canon's last annual report the Cinema line was spotlighted as a segment for horizontal expansion moving forward - in other words its something they're plowing more resources in order to expand its reach. This isn't something they would do if they "lost a ton of money." We already have rumors of mkIII versions. The KPI's and gross profit ratio's show high margin cameras are doing well for them as unit volume decreases. Expanding the Cinema EOS reach is part of the next 5-year phase of their long term strategy, again not likely if it were not making money. The C100/300's have become one of the standard cameras in TV and news production, and virtually every rental house stocks them. All of those cameras you listed share components with high volume models which lowers development costs.

  31. ES declared what was it 10 days ago he would never contribute to this site again because he knew his credibility was tainted.. then yesterday i see him post all kinds of bogus advice in threads. And now today he's whining no one locked his account so he took that as a free pass to continue his BS activities. Kid even has nerve to say "it's your fault" "don't get a seizure about me helping people".. I'm glad mods are finally taking a stance towards this punks behavior. I understand the are leaving his account open until situation gets resolved but really it should be restricted and his signature modified ASAP with a warning of his fraudulent activities. It's like giving a sex offender a slap on the wrist. You know it's a matter of time before dude commits crime again.. Seriously, the leniency given here is starting to give this site a bad look I'm afraid.. where is Andrew btw? he needs to step up & address this imo..

  32. Seriously Ebrahim, you have admitted that you are a 21 years old film noob kiddo with a canon 1100d plus a regretful scammer, edit your signature and put that there instead of all the 61 years old filmmaker crap, maybe they let you post. So when a 21 years old kiddo with a canon 1100d writes that the Canon 1DC is the best lowlight camera in history, the guy who reads it will understand that this is just the opinion of a 21 years old kid -who made a scam- based on footage he saw online.

    F3 in 2016

Agreed, the fs700 is an insane deal. Im curious how much you have shot with the fs700/7q? My work recently went from the fs700/7q to the c300ii. I will tell you that the f3 color wise is in a completely different league than the fs700. It is much more comparable to the red/c300ii than the fs700. If you shoot extreme sports, event videos etc, fs700 is probably great, but wouldn't be my first choice if I shot a lot of interviews and certainly not narrative work. i just bought the f3 for a project over the summer and I so happy with the results. The black magic cameras are also great, but the image seems more fragile, more noise, the color takes more time to get to a nice place, also the ND/IR pollution situation will drive you nuts. That being said, fs700/7q is hands down the best deal right now for a 4k setup. Go for the F3 if you want superior color, but to impress clients and the high frame rates with resolution, you probably want the fs700. I have been shooting a to of 1080/60p through the 7Q and have been so impressed by the image.

  35. While Canon may have said it is a hybrid camera, they didn't trump it as a bridge camera which is what most people seem to compare it to. To my mind, almost every photo camera now is a hybrid that can take stills and decent video including dSLR's, but the XC10 is a camcorder that has better still capability than other camcorders. In any case, I don't think anyone who saw the Canon press releases or videos, would think 'I'm not interested in video at all but Canon says XC10 is great at stills, so I'll get it), whereas a bridge camera may be brought by someone with no interest in video at all.

  37. Here is the edit from my first real video job. Unfortunately I was only able to capture the preparations as the parade was cancelled due to lightning and torrential rain. Horrible weather to work in. Too bad, as all the kids and organisers put tonnes of time into preparations. Handheld using two GX80 with the Panasonic 12-35/2.8 and 35-100/2.8 lenses (the LX100 for time-lapse).

  40. My first project with the GX80. Since size / weight does matter and securities are kinda picky, i had no choice but to leave my lovely Voigtländer 25 lens at home and put the Panasonic 20mm on it. I had mixed feelings especially I did not use this lens for a very long time but in the end, I am satisfied with the result. Grading was a breeze, skin tones need little to no adjustment and also this lens works quite well with the Tiffen Ultra Contrast Filter.
