  1. The movie ends jr with you telling the truth. If you are broke....just say it. You dont have the money. And ill chip in and give these guys some money back. Just end the lying. Youll feel better. Getting caught in a rabbit hole is not fun. And whatever happens...in 2 years you wont remember any of this. Be strong. Do the honorable thing. You are a good man. We a make mistakes. Especially online.

  2. Those were the good times back when we were in med school, stealing xray film and chemicals to take 8x10" nudes, eating fetus to become stronger, having fun with the resident nurses, and kodachrome, oh god, kodachrome you still remember that one time...

    jerks and jitters

I read the post by JonPais in the Fuji thread where he hopes to get rid of micro jitters with the help of a gimbal. Like him I tried all kinds of solutions and some worked better then others but I never got rid of what seems to be my biggest handicap; a too flexible spine. So the other day I thought why not use a belt to connect a small tripod to my hips and circumvent the spine all together. Sounded cool and it kind of worked, but if you want to use the EVF as well it is not optimal. At some moment I used the belt around my shoulder and it dawned on me I just made a swing, meaning any abrupt move would be absorbed or slowed down …and the seat of a swing always stays horizontal. It's my favorite way of stabilizing now. All jerks, jitters are gone. It's not that you don't move anymore but it's more like you film slowmo. And there are no extra costs. I'm pretty sure everyone already has some kind of lightweight tripod, I use the Sirui T-0005KX. If you want more weight or stability, mount a video head on top of a ball head. Both shots were taken with 1/30 of a second with a 200mm lens on a GH4 with a Speedbooster (0.72). It illustrates the use of the tripod shoulder mount trick vs handheld.

  4. The big thing i also learned is yes...dont trust always what people tell you. You have to really trust your own eyes. Cml... cinematography mailing list and cinematography.com and american cinematographer have real dps telling you what they do. Colorist forums like liftgammagain also the same. Dslr forums and dvxuser and reduser dont have as many working professionals. So take what they say with a grain of salt. You can trust certain peoples opinions and sometimes not. Like a dp i really respected lead me down a rabbits hole. So trust your gut and always do your own tests!! My own tests are many times flawed. So of course as most of you know...never trust what my likes or taste are either. I am a weirdo.

  5. Hello everyone, there has been a gesture from Ebrahim through a personal message. We'll see if the deeds follow the words. Perhaps we should give this a few days. Thank you all.

  6. This sounds a little bombastic, but to settle peoples mind on this forum... Ebrahim Jnr should post a video message with Ebrahim Senior explaining the situation and what will be done to rectify it. That will help with all these conspiracy theories. Also it would be good to see some genuine portfolio work from you both. You have enormous knowledge and seem to have tried a lot of cameras + lenses. Surely you have some material shot? Integrity and trust is important, even in an internet community. We share our knowledge, our work, our contact details, offer gear for sale... I'd hope that a community such as this is no place for scamming and telling lies. I hope the people involved have this rectified so topics about filmmaking can flourish more.

  9. I suspect the lad is under an enormous amount of pressure at the moment. I'd personally rather lose a few hundred dollars than be in such a position. I don't know the real story, but I can imagine that a young man wanting to be respected and liked, and with an underdeveloped sense of judgement and perspective, might make a series of bad choices. I was young once and I sometimes cringe at the things I have done. I suppose it is normal. But I am not the same person now that I was. A crisis can sometimes be a useful catalyst for change. In many stories the hero sets out on a quest of some sort. But he has a weakness of character, exposed by some circumstance, which causes him to stumble and fail, possibly becoming ostracised, or at least diminished in the eyes of others, in the process. Seeing how the hero responds to the difficult road ahead despite their weaknesses and failings is what keeps us on the edge of our seats. Good luck to all.

  10. Ok, if that's true, then a light meter has a setting for film/sensor size. But it doesn't. So no sensor size does not affect lowlight. If true, a printed magazine cover gets darker when you cut it with scissors. Depth of field stays the same. Exposure stays the same. Focal length stays the same. A crop is a crop is a crop is a crop. Take your camera and test/see for yourself. I'm out of the discussion because I know how religious people get over it. Its like talking evolution with the Pope. Science from me and magic from the opponent.

  11. Ebrahim, I do not understand why people have not been refunded yet. If your family has so much money and the amount of the scam is peanuts for you, why don't you go and refund them immediately? It will take you less than an hour to wire the money back to them. Your responses saying that you are thinking about sending the actual lens if they decide who should receive them sound ridiculous (sorry to say that) and it seems like a scammer talk. So, please stop. It is becoming very difficult to try to persuade the mob to give you the benefit of the doubt. Worse yet when you say you have a kind of army to defend yourself as if you lived in a bunker or when you say that the scam is not a crime in Egypt. It is just beyond ridiculous.

  12. I developed the color science and did all my tests with the camera on Windows. There's the free HFS explorer tool, or you can buy HFS drivers for Windows for 20 USD. If we were to make other cameras, I think a D35 and a D16 mk II based on EMCCDs would be my preference. The D16 mk II would hopefully be based on the KAE-02150. So 30fps, 14+ EV of DR without any of the highlight reconstruction. That's without any noise reduction in the circuitry of the sensor or in the software, so it'd keep the same mojo of the D16. The D35 is more of a dream camera for me. Nothing like it currently exists. I actually made a list a while ago and posted on our user group that Joe was actually on board with had the funding been there to pursue it. It'd basically be an EMCCD version of our sensor, but double the dimensions and resolution horizontally and increase the dimension vertically enough to achieve 16:9.

  14. After a while you get to see through all of that over embellishment - it's the tone of the writer that is the biggest give away. I lost all interest in him ages ago & I do believe it was his post about using ETTR on 8-bit DSLR footage that was the final straw - everyone knows you ETTR with RAW & only RAW, shit I wouldn't do it with ProRes HQ let alone DSLR codecs. (I'll stand corrected if that post wasn't him, but I think i'm right). It's sad really, but there are a lot of lonely people out there that need validation. However, the only problem with not telling the truth, is that you WILL slip up sooner or later. God I miss ZACH, at least we all know where we stand with him!

  15. In a forum like EOSHD, video proof will only generate more questions. Was it a 1DC with 8-bit C-Log or an A7S using PP1? How accurate are the skin tones?

  16. Depth of field doesn't change with sensor size, nor does lowlight. You only recalculate the focal length so the person you talk to will understand the distance he/she needs to fill a frame. A crop is a crop, nothing else. Any who....

  17. Seriously, this is just getting sad now. This kid obviously really does enjoy this forum and he obviously cannot keep up with the plethora of lies he has told over the years. I've been relatively active in this forum for the past year and I never even knew there was allegedly 2 people... I always thought there was only one. However, I do remember a time when Enrahim posted some gh4 footage, but I have yet to see anything else from him. You would think the owner of a media company and a 1dc would upload some test footage somewhere... Hell I upload every boring, poorly colored footage I do so I can see it in multiple screens and get better... But nothing from Ebrahim. I think @Oliver Daniel suggestion would be a quick and easy way for Ebrahim to clear this up. Clear this up... Or come up with a better story, because the sad, victim is boring and hardly worth the narrative of these past 16 pages.

  18. That is, in fact, the sensor I'm talking about the KAE-02150. So, so nice. If you read up on EMCCDs, you'll see the higher the gain, the lower the amount of noise. It works by varying voltages in a special gain register and the electrons collide with each other and a phenomenon called impact ionization happens. More electrons are created! And electrons are our signal! So more gain = more electrons = more signal = less noise

  24. Yeah this is getting more and more tangled with every post. So, the logical conclusion is that the grandson did it for whatever reason, he needed some money, he got caught up with the wrong people... Whatever. And now, if the OG Ebrahim even exists, he is covering up for the kid, knowing the kid could get into BIG trouble for this since multiple international laws have been broken. Most likely OG Ebrahim has reached out to an attorney and will end up not paying because, that is some form of admission of guilt. But in reality, until OG Ebrahim confirms his identity through some form of video chat or by uploading a video of himself discussing the matter, there is no other explanation but to assume he never existed... Or has passed away since he joined this forum. Unfortunately there is probably little legally to be done, I'm sure the Egyptian authorities have more important things to do and I doubt Interpol will look into it... If they even have any authority or connections in Egypt. So unless there's a link to this kid and some bigger criminal enterprise, involving other fake forum members on this site and other sites... Doubtful anything can really be done. But this is seriously some interesting shit... If Ebrahim was here, he'd ask me to watch my language... Fuck 'em. Wow. That's pretty damning. How could someone hack into his Facebook, EOSHD acct, and have a fake ID to pick up money at Western Union. PLUS have access to the gear that he was known to have. If you're logging into your Facebook, or forums frequently (which it looks like he does), you're going to see messages from 6 people inquiring about transactions. This was over a substantial amount of time too.

  26. Well, as I've mentioned, it's hard to ignore a fascinating storyline. Perpetuating it is a strange compulsion. Maybe more so for those of us that fancy ourselves as just that: storytellers. We get to be a part of a so-called-real drama without all the physical messiness of it touching us. I'm sure there's a sub-study of psychoanalysis being developed in regards to the virtual-ness of this new culture.

  28. Look around where you live and work each day. Are your walls white? There's a fair chance you're being irradiated by the titanium in the pigment in the paint, depending on the source. And anything else painted white or with white pigment. Back in the '80s and '90s my dad worked as a chemist. One of his last jobs was as a pigment specialist for this company that, among other things, made an alternative to the titanium-based white pigments used in everything from paint to plastics to food. He came home rattled one night because while the company tried to sell customers their product they still did a lot of color matching formulation for all kinds of products and still did a fair amount of work with titanium and they got a particularly "hot" batch from China that somehow made it through Customs and was sitting on a barge. Nobody knew what to do with it that wasn't going to amount to an international incident. He knew that much of the time the metal had trace amounts of radioactivity but it was within EPA standards. This was apparently closer to nuclear fallout level stuff that only got found out because someone got curious. Who knows how much had already come in like that or would come in like that in the future. I was told not to talk about it with any of my friends at school and we never really talked about it again. I still don't know what happened to the barge full of the stuff but I think about that night every time I stare at a white wall or something made of white plastic. I'm not worried about these lenses.

  29. This is getting boring now. The truth of the matter is this... ES LIED. The burden of proof is on him. And until he proves otherwise, which is actually quite simple. Show a video of the elder and younger ES and a copy of the Police Report that they have claimed to have filed. Until those simple deeds are done, all of the facts point that the elder ES does not exist in the capacity that was represented on this forum and ES needs to do the proper thing to make it right. Timotheus and Tomas trusted ES based upon his long track record and high rating on this site. If he was honest from the onset, his rating may have not been so high because his supposed resume wouldn't have led people to believe what he was preaching was a hundred percent accurate. Just because Timotheus and Tomas should not have fallen for the oldest African Western Union scam in the book, doesn't let ES off the hook. This is still a crime. Since ES is located in a 3rd world country with more problems to deal with than $600, there is little to be done to get there money back, unless ES does the admirable thing. Timotheus has already stated that he was contacted by ES to somehow make things right. Although I still highly doubt he has owned up to anything. If he does, great. That is the respectable, honorable and manly thing to do. He speaks of respect, let's see if he lives by those words. If anyone wants to believe his previous posts were "beautiful" by all means... Everyone is entitled to their opinion... I believe they are lies filled with half truths designed to uphold a fictitious persona. I believe the kid has mental issues and I wish him all the luck in the world. I would love to see his work with whatever camera he does actually own... It may be genius. For now, I'd rather go back to my theory that the elder and younger ES were abducted by the aliens that built the pyramids and after the prodding and probing they put alien filmmaker DNA into the grandson's body... But not enough money to afford the taxes for a 1dC.

Ettr only works probably at 12bit 4444 at least Dont quote me on that But ettr at 420 8bit h.264 is going to have noisy highlights and shadows This is why i no longer shoot slog2 on a7s and heavan forbide slog3 which is an even more agressive curve. 31. Panny, I enjoy the community as it gives me an outlet to discuss filmmaking. I have very few people in my daily life that enjoy the subject. However I am not looking for encouragement or validation. I can only speak for myself of course. I am looking for pointers from people who have been at the stage that I am at. And I am very thankful for the help I have received, both positive and negative. But what ES has done has concocted a resume that would lead other beginner filmmakers to believe the "truths" and "experience" he espoused. Sure the two scammed members lost some cash but how much cash and time, beginner filmmakers... Either members or just readers... How much time and money was wasted and lost over the years based on ES's lies? That's the real shame in all of this. It is of my opinion that ES either proves through video chat that they are in fact two people and either deliver the rangefinders or return the money. Then write a post apologizing to the community and accept a temporary ban of at least 3 months before being allowed to return as the true person they are. And if any lies are ever found out again then they are banned for life. His posts can easily be ignored by any members that wish to not risk reading his lies. But honestly this is a forum run and owned by one individual who will have the final say. Until then it is nobody's place to tell other members how they should or shouldn't feel about this matter. But... If all of this is true, then ES has some issues and we should be responsible human beings and acknowledge that, and hopefully ES is mentally capable enough to understand that with his actions come consequences. Some of those consequences will be jokes made at his expense and some will be angry responses.

  33. Well, guys, I think, what me, Ed, mercer, Zach, Ebrahim and a lot of us have in common here on Eoshd is the enjoyment of community, encouragement. Even if I might learn some wrong stuff once in a while regarding the technicalities of codec, exposure, resolution vs sharpness, etc., as long as it can engage us to do filming, it´s an achievement in itself already. Most of us seem to succeed in that regard. There are plenty of well shot pieces in the screening area of this forum. Would be cool, if the forums "usability feng shui" would lurk us more into posting in that category.

The key difference between this and a monopod is that the monopod is fixed to the ground at point of contact. That's where it gets its stability, which is fine for photography, and for static shots in video, e.g., photo/video journalism. But for motivated camera movement? Then yes, you would need something like this, or an easy rig, steadicam. The latter especially for heavier loads or long takes. It's a clever setup for light loads or short takes, as is the monopod on belt variations, brings back memories of stick-on-my-dick jokes that stopped being funny when you were sporting bruises in your groin. But I love the DIY approaches. Who cares what you look like, or how goofy it is. Christopher Doyle was running around shooting with a pillow taped to his chest to stabilize his camera. Jennifer Connolley was strapped with a heavy, ridiculous-looking, crazy-ass rig for her selfie take in Requiem For a Dream. And she had to perform like that. That's the talent looking ridiculous for the film, not the crew that nobody gives a shit about. Get the shot.

  39. Nice cherry picking You should redo that with Nikon's own 24-70 f2.8 (http://j.mp/29NNDmG). That Sigma is a) a third party lens and b) not in the same league as the Sony GM or the Nikon Nano. If you had mentioned Canon then I would have agreed because the Canon 24-70 f2.8 is compact and the whole package is shorter.

  47. Hi Pavel, do it yourself you can not do it. it's complicated. You have to cut crystals and build the adapter body with precision machinery. The Canon Fd has the "distance of the flanges" minor compared to Nikon, this will surely result in smaller distance between the sensor and speed booster lens. The lenses with Nikon mounts are economically more advantageous than those with Canon EF mount, the Nikon mount also offer the manual iris control advantage. Nikon, Sigma, Tamron, Samyang offer a wide variety of lenses with Nikon mount. This is undoubtedly a big plus, and a great start.

  48. Although I haven't done this myself, I believe @Andrew Reid mentioned it in his preliminary review of the GX80. This is what he said: "But there’s more… the camera’s new processor can record 4K to the SD card internally at 100Mbit/s AS WELL AS outputting the full 4K 422 feed to an external recorder for high bitrate ProRes at the same time. " So yes it does. It looks as though you're getting some really good colors with Davinci indeed... the greens are fantastic! Unfortunately, I don't have enough experience (or time) with it to say what a GX80 signal would produce... my impression is that you're 16 and 960 refer to a luma range... I thought it would appear at 0-255 on the GX80, but I'm not sure. I've seen this myself, but why would 8-bit Log files exist? All them have saturation and contrast increases after applying a LUT... videographers use them all the time for serious projects. Is it "o.k." with 8-bit Log, but not with non-log? I still find there's quite a bit of color in a sat = -5 GX80 file, sometimes I'd say it looks closer to what I saw.

  49. The difference between the Bolex H16 and the D-Bolex is that the original one utilized a form-follows-function philosophy, while the Digital Bolex was the opposite. The Bolex looked that way for a reason, and I believe that it is one of the most elegant cameras ever made. Everything on it has a purpose, and they were a joy to use. I spent many hours with one in my hand back in school, and I never stopped getting a kick out of loading Ektachrome in broad daylight, and winding up that crank. The Digital Bolex was just weird. I loved the image that came out of it. It certainly looked the shit. But how do you handle it? That tear-drop shape has no logic to it, you had to get an external viewfinder just to put it to your eye the way Bolexes were meant to be used, and didn't anybody learn from the FS100 that having a built-in monitor on top of the camera is pointless? And a built-in hard drive? What happen if it fails? You don't want to know how many memory cards I have to toss away at work. Outside of professional media like Codex drives or Sony SxS cards, it's a very touch-and-go situation. The off-the-shelf SSDs are not reliable enough in my opinion, which is why Convergent Design builds their own, and why I want to smash these Atomos recorders on the floor along with they're Samsung SSDs which were built for laptops, not cameras. I think that there is room in the market for a retro-style 16mm digital camera. But it will need a much more functional design, and a lower price tag. Something like a Super 8 camera crossed with a Handycam. That said, I wished that they would have gotten to release a super 35mm camera. Maybe one inspired by the Eclair Cameflex, another timeless camera design. A Digital Cameflex if you will. Complete with Kinoptik-styled prime lenses and a Franscope anamorphic adapter. Now that's a camera I would pay the going rate for. C'est la vie.

  50. Nice thread at least since it made me read up, do the math and learn something new: For a person living in Paris you would need to touch a lens emitting 5 microsievert/hour at a minimum of an hour every day, 365 days/year to reach the same level as the yearly background radiation here in Stockholm. Who would have thought? Source: "Radon" section at the bottom (With a map showing that half of the population in Sweden live in an area with 5-10 mSv/year) http://www.world-nuclear.org/info/Safety-and-Security/Radiation-and-Health/Naturally-Occurring-Radioactive-Materials-NORM/
