  2. Nikon would need to sort out lot more than the AF for me to consider Z6. As others pointed out you basically need an Atomos for video (just to shoot N-Log) which defeats the purpose of a compact hybrid. shooting handheld, on gimbal/slider with the camera tethered to a recorder via HDMI is a PITA. False assumption. A dual cam setup allows for a lot of flexibility including A/B multi-cam setups. FS7 can also do a lot more than just 10 bit 422. 4K60p, 180fps in cam and up to 240fps RAW in 2K externally. A cine cam also gives you ND filters, XLRs, SDI, TC, Battery life & overall reliability/ergonomics that are invaluable on a long paid shoot. That's another reason why Nikon or Fuji aren't really an option for me as they offer no cine cam ecosystem. And since I like to work with one lens set per shoot that kind of eliminates Panasonic as an option as well. Leaving Sony as the only practical alternative to Canon. Canon still has DPAF advantage on their cine cams so I'm not really ready to switch but I like to keep an open mind..

  6. lol yeah. I saw comments about cinema cameras that Canon cameras will dominate them. Such as dual pixel AF can replace current focus pulling. He knows nothing about cinematography. Btw, does he really works as a professional? This is what he said: "I work in the professional video industry, saying that all these amazing technological advances aren't needed because 'real' pros work around them, is exactly like those saying pros don't need anything but a MF Leica without an LCD. It's ridiculous. 1- An EVF is an emmensely valuable tool for cinematographers, and external cinema EVFs are extremely low quality for some reason. To get a 3.89m dot type external EVF, you'll pay 5000+, and have an HDMI cable dangling. 2- IBIS is an extremely valuable tool, and we've tried the GH5 on gimbals and it actually aids 3 axis gimbals, not work against them, I call BS from Panasonic and pretty sure the oversized sensor just didn't have room to move inside the mount. Cinematographers have been using IS cameras and lenses on gimbals for years and they work very well. Plus this is a handheld camera, not an URSA Mini. 3- AF, anyone who doesn't appreciate AF in the cinema work is either a snob shooting film or didn't try DPAF! It saves money." BS. https://***URL removed***/news/8108094649/photojournalist-faces-death-penalty-in-egypt-for-covering-anti-government-protests?comment=2254558522 Actually, some of them found his past. Now, he is refusing that he didn't do that and not the same person... Who wanna fight him back?

  7. https://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPEF-EFM-BT1 Metabones announced a new Speed Booster (EF to EF-M mount). Metabones EF-EOS M Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x is available right now for $479. Press release: Metabones® Introduces EF to EOS M (EF-EFM Mount) Speed Booster® ULTRA 0.71x Vancouver, Canada, May 2, 2019 – Metabones introduces the latest member of its award-winning Speed Booster family of DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) to mirrorless lens mount adapters, EF-EOS M Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x. Full-frame Canon EF-mount lenses are now one stop faster, 0.71x wider and with increased MFT (note 1) on Canon EOS M cameras. The 4k/UHD video crop on EOS M50 can also be mitigated with third-party APS-C lenses using this Metabones Speed Booster. Some Canon EF-S lenses may be modified to fit on the Speed Booster but Metabones cannot be held liable for any issues arising from modifications. Using APS-C lenses with Speed Booster for still photography or full HD videography may result in vignetting. Ever since the first Speed Booster was introduced, there have been DIY attempts to modify it to fit EOS M cameras. The turnkey solution Metabones now offers adds a number of refinements: The optical housing is redesigned for a perfect fit on EOS M. The EXIF metadata is changed to reflect the faster aperture (note 2) and shorter focal length. The autofocus speed of the lens is adjusted and optimized for the change in focal length and aperture to ensure the best performance. This is especially important for dual-pixel autofocus (DPAF) in video mode. A ‘chip’ mode is added so that the user may store the metadata of a fully mechanical manual lens in the adapter. A LED indicates the operational status of the Speed Booster. Since both the lens and the camera speak the same protocol most features are supported with the exception of lens aberration correction, which is automatically turned off. Speed Booster ULTRA Speed Booster ULTRA uses an advanced 5-element/4-group optical design by Caldwell Photographic Inc., incorporating ultra-high index tantalum-based optical glass to achieve extraordinary optical performance with improved corner sharpness, distortion and reduced vignetting. Speed Booster ULTRA has a magnification of 0.71x, effectively reducing the crop factor of APS-C cameras from 1.5x to 1.07x. The Speed Booster ULTRA design makes very effective use of exotic materials at the furthest limit of glassmaking technology, and as a result, is well corrected for use with virtually all full-frame SLR lenses regardless of exit pupil distance. Thus, the Speed Booster ULTRA performs extremely well with professional-grade f/2.8 zoom lenses such as the 24-70mm f/2.8 and 70-200mm f/2.8 zooms by Canon to produce 17-50mm f/2.0 and 50-142mm f/2.0 high-speed zooms, respectively. Similarly, high-speed fixed focal length lenses such as a 50mm f/1.2 will be transformed into a 35.5mm f/0.9 lens with excellent contrast and resolution from the center all the way to the edges of the image. Availability Metabones EF-EOS M Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x is available right now for USD 479.00 plus applicable taxes, duties, and shipping, from Metabones’ web store and its worldwide network of resellers. Note 1: compared to the same lens on the same camera with an ordinary lens mount adapter without optics. Note 2: to ensure compatibility with hardware and software, which do not always handle sub-1.0 apertures properly, f/1.2 lenses will display their pre-boost aperture. Please rest assured that the display has no impact on the actual maximum aperture and a maximum output of f/0.9 is supported. 10. It took E.T. ages to be released for vhs/laserdisc back in the day. I was doomed to dark for viewing outside a theater/darkroom. So it got a ‘tv’ grade to make it more watchable in the living rooms. But it took 6+ years...

    Quality backpack suggestions?

of course not! Not even close..I tried some of the bigger backpacks, and were totally inconvenient for carrying around, and/or Air travels, so I decided to go with something slightly smaller (like this 450 LowePro or Tenba 32L, anything more is HUGE, and heavy). My main issue is that I have A LOT of equipment (like taking with me 2-3 bodies, and 5-6 lenses, and build from there) so it was a wishful thinking I could fit all in one backpack. If you add laptop/surface/sound/monitors/gimbal/360cameras/drone e.t.c is just too much. But for a more "self-controlled" approach, or 1-2 days of specific shooting, it can fit a lot of stuff. If you can take 2 bodies, 3 lenses, drone, a Surface Go (instead of the laptop) and no gimbal, it can be quite good. I prefer it from older LowePro designs, and it can be quite deep. Check these photographs from the Amazon review from 24 February 2019, he can fit a camera/lenses/accessories/a gimbal and a Mavic. https://www.amazon.de/Lowepro-ProTactic-Camera-Laptop-Backpack/dp/B07J1ZNZXF/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 All in all, I remembered why I was avoiding back packs for so many years. The bag I use the most is the Vanguard Quovio 41 or 48 (don't remember which one I have). I have it for 5 years now and it is being amazing. I found it more appropriate for video work, when you have some rigging going on already, open the bag and take what you need, the backpacks and similar bags are more photography orientated, or just to carry thing from place A to B, but not from A to B to C, back to A e.t.c! Last job I fit there - quite easily - 3 bodies, 3 lenses, Surface Go, Focus 5", hard drives, too many batteries, chargers, cables, Sennheiser 25 headphones, Sennheiser MKH 440 and Rode Micro and a small Manfrotto tripod on top! I took the Mavic on its DJI bag, and no gimbal (actually I am not sure why I bought the Ronin S, I never use it!).

  12. Has anyone heard any more about Braw in Premiere? I know it's hated here, but I can't get consistent exports from Resolve. The colour in the export is always different to what I see in Resolve. I've researched it a lot, and it's like GOT, totally my fault for not setting things up and calibrating etc. etc. But at least with Premiere what I see is what I get even if it's wrong.

  15. Fusion continues to baffle me. I'm quite competent in After Effects in that I'm pretty advanced, don't rely on templates, etc. But I have trouble doing even the most basic things in Fusion that would take me 5 minutes in After Effects. People tell me that Fusion is more powerful than AE, which is great, but that doesn't help me if the learning curve is too hard for me to wrap my head around!

  16. Most of the portable monitors are not able to supply enough power for the P4K. The big NP batteries extend the battery life to around 2 hours (with external SSD + phantom power). I use a v-mount battery (150Wh), which powers the camera mostly all day. As long as you aren't trying to create a very small rig for a run & gun type environment, battery life can be made into a non-issue.

  17. Already posted this a few days ago. Working on a set of luts which goes a bit further than what is shown in this tutorial and won't help with the issue in like 50% of the shots affected by it.

  18. Unfortunately it is difficult to raise awareness on DPR of what happened here due to them banning any links with EOSHD.com in them. So if he does pull the same stunt over there to one of their users then I'd have to say that it will have been entirely down to DPR themselves.

  19. If true, sort of sounds like suicide unless they have some groundbreaking tech no one has even thought of. It just seems to be a...GoPro knockoff. We already have all kinds of those now.

  24. Wow, so I've finally caught up with the latest season. The show has completely lost its edge. The latest episode felt like a Marvel movie spin off written by first year film and art students. I remember the first 3 seasons as being mesmerizing, engaging television. You cared about the characters and kinda dreaded watching the next episode for fear of what could happen. The intrigue and the suspense was soooo soo good. We started to see the problem in season 7 but season 8 is complete garbage. They took an extra year to write this trash? This should be a text book example of how not to do a critically acclaimed book adaptation before the book series is done. After they left the pages of the books behind the show has plummeted in imagination and view experience. Season 8 gets a 5/10 from me and EP4 a 2/10 Lazy television award. Who was the night king again? Ah who cares. We only spent the last 7 SEASONS building a story about his looming threat and then...LOL! The details make this story special and engaging. Not just the marvel action scenes.
