  3. You must be the one other person besides me who bought an AF100. It was the first affordable large sensor camcorder. I bought it at launch & had such high hopes of it replacing my GH3 & Canon 5D2s but unfortunately I hated it. I was so grateful when the C300 launched & I was able to replace the AF100. This really was a great large sensor camcorder with lovely image & colours & great ergonomics. The C300 was (& still is) an amazing camera. My circumstances changed & I no longer own the C300 but if I were still in the market for a camcorder it would be a C200 for 4K or a C100 for HD. The difference in ergonomics between the GH5 & Cx00 are night & day.

Yes. 4k is NOT needed for every job and sometimes you need a workhorse to get the job done camera that can perform multipurpose duty and pull solid image. Long battery life, NDs, auto focus, wifi browser control, XLRs, SD dual sd cards, and ergonomically a breeze to use.

    DJI Ronin S

Just bought a Crane Plus. Holds an A7III easily and weight HALF of the DJI. 2 pounds less ! this is enormous. I would never get the DJI even for free just for the weight. Let me precise that 80% of my camera use is away from home or in the mountain where weight counts a lot. If I were to fly a 1DX for work project then yes the DJI makes sense.

  6. Also worth mentioning, the new MBP are really fast. The high end model as better single core CPU performance than the best IMAC PRO. The overall performance jump both in CPU and GPU vs 2017 models is enormous. The new DDR4 memory is very fast. And the faster SSD are out of this world. In fact PC manufacturer should feel ashamed, as seen in the attached picture.

  7. That is a LOT of money for a cage for a cheap camera LoL. Nearly half the price of the camera! http://www.8sinn.com/index.php/supported-cameras/blackmagic-pocket-cinema-camera-4k/8sinn-bm-pocket-cinema-camera-4k-cage-top-handle-pro.html

  8. IMO there are better options available than the expensive blackmagic egpu with an outdated AMD chip. The only reason to pick this is if you have a thunderbold monitor. NVIDIA should be a better choice for Resolve/Premiere.

  9. the cheapest setup is probably iPhone SE and Spark biggest bang for the buck for slow motion + aerial + some 4k footages

  11. A nice demonstration that content is king & the technical limitations of the cameras are less important. Interesting blog post too. When I saw the drone shots I was amazed at how high & far you had the drone fly then I saw that you lost it but <spoiler alert> was happy that you found it again. TBH with a slightly better gimbal to use with the G7 X there would be no need for the iPhone as it was the only 4K source.

Our new member @Branko Mitic has a blog post on his site comparing the C100 with the 1DXii that has some really useful insights. https://brankomitic.com/canon-c100-vs-1d-x-mark-ii-video-use/

Well played... well played. Lol. Seriously, though... we briefly discussed this before... and there is just something about that FF image. Other than going to the complete other end of the spectrum to shoot S16 with the Pocket or Micro, I barely like the idea of shooting Super 35 anymore. And with my distaste for adapters growing by the day, M4/3 seems like a strange crop factor to my eye now. @BTM_Pix ironically c-mounts are the only things I miss about M4/3 or S16.

16mm movie camera and latterly CCTV camera lens mount. Veydra did/do a mount adapter for it and then £10 dumb mounts can get it on to all your different cameras.

  15. Just finished my a weekend of shooting with the Liliput A5 for the first time, and I really liked it! Was a nice screen (in fact the B cam would often be using it for himself! Rather than for its purpose: to be pointed at me, so I could keep an eye on the B Cam shots), seemed to be battery efficient (I think? I wasn't doing battery management though, that was B Cam AC's job) while being super small and lightweight. For its price (only US$149!) I think this was an awesome bargain buy.

  16. Yeah I had that same feeling when I close to retirement. Who gives a crap. If they fire me I can make it until I get my Social Security or Pension somehow. I am done with all this stuff. Now don't get me wrong there were friends I had I still miss, and never see anymore. But damn not to have to get up, shave, drive to work, hell work, man I should have quit 40 years ago LoL. Hint for young people. Have fun for as long as you can. Don't have kids even if you get married at 25. Wait and have fun. Don't buy a lot of stuff, no fancy house. Work 40 hours a week or less and well, have fun. You may never live to be old and if you do you may not be able to do much of anything physical, or your partner might not, not fun. In my case my first wife died at age 55 from Cancer. Really not fun. You never know. Don't be a tight ass, just don't buy the best thing there is. Being in debt for years and years sucks ass, it just does, not fun. Notice I said fun a lot of times. Have fun, if not you might as well jump off the roof. It is a damn, long, miserable life not having fun in it. No reason to live, no reason to get up, and you treat everyone like shit if you are not happy. Laugh, it helps.

  17. It's not recklessness. At a certain point it's just a lack of F's to give anymore. It's hard to explain until you actually start to see the guy with a sickle waving it at you. As it should be. As it shall be ever thus.

  18. I am not saying it does not have a great look OOC, It does. It is just too damn big. And you will put a mike on it, a recorder on it, a cheese plate on it, a bigger monitor on it, on and on and it will be big as Hell. Been there done that with my AF100A. All that stuff you actually need at times. You just stand out too damn much with a camera like that. It is a pain in the ass to set up, you need bigger everything, on and on again. Now if you want to impress people sure, but in the town I live in that is not a very good option anymore. This is a small College town, and most people in it are highly educated, and can afford a Lawyer LoL.

Well I will write one more comment on topic to not Piss off Kisaha. I really think in this day and age of Mirrorless cameras particularly, the the whole equation of what do I want to shoot has changed. A "C Change" as they say, and I don't mean C for Canon. I grew up and used cameras on Sticks, ergo Tripod most of my life. Even my ENG work a heck of a lot of it was on Sticks. We even rested the camera on Sticks to be able to grab it when we needed it fast. Photography was pretty much the same for me and others my age. Sure street photography has, and is a goal every person I think has, but Very few do it, as it takes a damn special person with hide as thick as a Rhino, and balls of steel to pull it off. In this day and age I think a lot of that is over with, at least here in the USA. Probably get shot trying it now LoL. But now with Mirrorless, and even smaller DSLR's we now look at video, photography as a Lot more of a mobile thing rather than static. Run n Gun brought on by Gimbals, whether mechanical, electronic have changed the Landscape, pun intended, and we look at it with a whole new set of eyes. So do we, the OP want to be tied down on Sticks, Or have the option to be able to Run n Bun, Blend into the crowd, and use a monopod, tripod with what I would argue not a lot better output than he can probably get with a Canon 80D. Surely not better than a 1DC, 5D mk IV, and 1Dx mk II, you get the picture. On a Tripod do you Really Need DPAF that often compared to handheld, or on a Gimbal?? Can me, you, the OP afford a Gimbal that can Really work well with a C100 with the top handle, a external screen, microphone attached, small external recorder like has been suggested, on and on?? Ehh I doubt it. So it is on sticks pretty much. So the question really is do you want to be chained to a Tripod, or be able to be Stealth, do Run n Gun, carry a Lot less weigh and bulk, probably cost a lot less. Well to me that is the question you need to answer for yourself. Now if you have lots of money, well have both. I think that is the lay awake at night thinking what do I do thing. ?

  20. Another comment full of white noise and unrelated information. I hope people will eventually realize that there is information pertaining to the original post within the so-called “white noise.” Conversations evolve and unless the OP is stupid he will get plenty of information from this evolved discussion, but to make you happy I will end every comment I make in this thread with C100... so... C100 I mean seriously, if comments didn’t evolve, this thread could have been completed with one simple reply that stated, “Yes, it is still relevant.” End of discussion. C100

Well, don’t take video at playgrounds with your pants down and you shouldn’t have a problem...? But seriously, this is why you should buy a camera that has IBIS, a good selection of native lenses and a good color science. Probably the E-M1 Mark II is your best bet. I’ve seen some going for $1500 or less on eBay. Get yourself a good strap and you can practically walk around with the damn thing while glancing down at your camera... nobody will even realize you’re shooting anything. Or obviously for the straight out of camera look you like, the Fuji XH-1 would be a good choice.

Who am I to tell anybody how to spend their money, but seriously... the P4K is like the last camera you should buy. To shoot in 4K, you are going to need expensive CFast2 cards. You are going to need about a dozen batteries or an external power supply to last you the day. You'll need a cage. You may need an external monitor. If you're getting a speedbooster, you may need rails and a follow focus. You'll need an IR filter and a good Variable ND or ND filters. If you go native, you'll need a couple fast M43 primes. You're looking at a price point that is closer to 2500 bucks when all is said and done... maybe more. At that price point, you may as well go with the GH5s, you can find them now for around $2000. For the type of casual shooting you do, go for the bells and whistles... even if it costs you about the same... you'll be plenty happier at the end of the day. That is exactly what happened to me... I just never got much better. LOL. But at my level, I can't afford, nor really want someone else to shoot my stuff. There is something organic about being behind the lens... even as a director, that you just don't get sitting on the sidelines while someone else shoots your material. If an actor misses their mark, or ignores it, I can adjust how I would want it adjusted. The devil is in the details with me.

@webrunner5 you’re all over the place lately. You hate the GH5, you love it. The C100 is amazing, it’s an old turd. Which is it? That’s the problem with forums... there are too many choices and new ones are released every day. If you’re the type of shooter that wants the newest gadget, then you should probably sell your a7s and buy a GH5s. Although I like the image out of the GH5s better than the GH5, its lack of IBIS is a deal breaker for me... even if I was interested in one of those cameras. The P4K should be an amazing camera but not one I would choose for event work. I’d definitely go GH5 over a P4K for those types of jobs. So back to the topic at hand... I would never use the C100 on a gimbal, so that’s irrelevant as well. I know this is a dirty word around here, but the C100 just has some mojo to it. And since we learned from JB that a lot of network television is still broadcasted at 720p, 4K downscaled in camera to 1080p on the C100 makes it a viable production camera for lots of scenarios. And for the price they are going for now, you’re getting a lot of camera.

  25. That is correct. It will work, but unfortunately the eGPU will not be used for rendering. That was not the case for older versions of macOS & FCPX, and I hope with maveric and a new version of FCPX this will change.

  27. Three months ago I was salty about not getting a Micro 2. Now I'm ready to upgrade just for that 4k60! Hey @John Brawley can you pass feedback for future cameras? Me and some happy BM owners would love to see a Micro Pro with a positive lock MFT mount, SDI out and swappable rear battery plates. I know we are a niche market but those things would make the Micro v2 epic.

  28. Please dont take this offensive, but why I am in love with a particular lens is not the subject of this topic. This topic is solely about whether the A7 II is really as bad as people tell. The result is that I will test this by myself :)

  31. And not much more for the adapter cable and NP battery mount to make the zoom powered. I think all of us who've put a B4 lens on an MFT camera have to tip the hat and acknowledge that we never went for it to quite the same extent as this guy https://youtu.be/E-baLc-POBM

  32. Here's a set I'm slowly collecting / modifying. Pentax SMC Takumars: 17mm f424mm f3.535mm f250mm f1.4 - 7 element50mm f1.4 - 8 element55mm f1.885mm f1.8105mm f2.8135mm f2.5200mm f4I've de-clicked them, had 3d printed focus and aperture gears fitted and lightly grub screwed, shimmed them all for infinity focus with EOS adapters, and have 80mm fronts on all but the 17mm. Yes, they're a bit slow at either end, but with an A7s, plenty of fun to be had.
