  2. Honestly, I am stoked on this. If I somehow get my hands on some extra cash I would love to pick up a used E-M1 mkii or one of these E-M5 mkiii. I shoot mostly on a GH5 and having one of these as my second cam would be killer. Good AF for the times I need it and the Gh5 for when I need 10bit / 4k60. Olympus is doing good stuff. Plus M43 is a killer mount and I love the sensor size.

  6. Maybe a Masters is too much, more appropriate for a career in education, but film making is a very complex field, including both technical and artistic concepts. The old mantra was "education, education, education", the new one is "just look at it from youtube". Both are wrong in my opinion. I am in between, starting working in the field when I was 19 years old, and the same time did sound engineering, multimedia computing and programming, BofA in Film and Video (directing) and other unrelated studies. Still have the need to study some more, maybe I will do a course in European Culture and Civilization (4 years BA degree) next year, still thinking about it because it is rather expensive, but education is a huge part of evolution, a proper academic education can make you a better person, not strictly a better professional, but being a more complete person and citizen will help you with your work in unimaginable ways. Just a few good professionals do youtube videos, most of the youtube crowds, especially the popular ones, are just "some kids".

  7. No objection here on your entry. Just principles apply. Where's ethics, even morals? People enjoying the destruction of pieces of engineering just for the sake of supposed fun?! Is there any fun on it? In the same planet where half planet still live with less than $2.50 dollar per day?! https://www.wri.org/resources/charts-graphs/population-living-less-1-day-1981-2004 http://www.globalissues.org/print/article/26 The argument of usefulness or information on reliability under stress circumstances doesn't buy my sensibility. Excuses for such filthy show. I can't find it in any way other than as rather disgusting... WTH of society we live all in? What type of man is this one? Yeah, I mean about the audiences... Where are the values we've seen people along the History to die for? Yes, not mere concepts of right and wrong. Where's the responsibility of the creators of content to contribute to all this? The media? The legislators? Where's people stand about all that Mediterranean drama? I'd sincerely distrust anything or anyone in the hands of certain people living in the so-called civilized world today, after all. Well, it must be the ultimate joke to call it like that. It doesn't even look like sanely safe, go figure, hence my remark to call these individuals, retarders in a literal sense : ) We can't call it meritocracy either, but the Barbarians instead. Rome fell, let's not forget... Seems the world is plain to them on both sides of the civilized fences. Terrifying. Too much decadence to be quiet... I wonder where all this will lead? No money in the world can justify everything. Hey, I love money too but I give it its own merit. Respect. Values. I believe that's where the whole thing fails. E : -)

  14. Just realized my wife has an old Helios-44-2 from her Zenit-E 35mm camera. The glass is a bit of a loose wobbly thing, but all I need for it is a M42-M43 adapter and I'll be good to go. I think I'll put it on the GH1 I have buried in the closet and see how it goes. Need to find something to film now.

    Best way to focus

    1. Set taking lens out of focus where your subject is and wide open to get nice bokeh. 2. Make a shiny spot on your subject focus plane so you see the bokeh on the subject. 3. Turn scope both sides and see how the shape of bokeh change. You need a middle point where bokeh is perfectly round. 7. Now focus your taking lens as usual. 8. Remove the shiny spot if you don't want it on the shoot

  18. The cables are purely for remotely start/stopping the recording on the camera. The Pocket4K doesn't have that capability. The focus control on the EF lens is done between the controller and the mount adapter so should just work. If the aperture control is working then that proves its communicating with the lens. At the risk of sounding completely patronising, make sure the switch on the lens is set to AF though

    Nikon z50 Apsc camera

Out of the APSC cameras in this price range the Z50 certainly looks like the best to me. The Z50 seems well built and the sealing is supposed to be good. I like how the grip, buttons and control wheels are executed. That kit lens is tiny and the perfect travel lens. The main problem is the lack of lenses. (But what new camera system has a lot of lenses?) Nikon should have made a DX 23 or 35mm f1.8 lens for the launch. I am excited about the announced 28mm and 40mm “compact primes”. Seeing that they are not S line lenses they should be affordable. Probably pancakes, they will be perfect for the Z50 as well as the full frame Z cameras. I can see myself adding a Z50 in a couple years with one of those pancakes as a throw around travel camera. I hope the cheaper and smaller Z30 is still magnesium and with two control wheels but leaves out the viewfinder and flip screen to cut cost and size. That and the 28mm pancake would be a dream.

  20. I see nothing to suggest that this is recording movies off anything other than a centre crop. I don't see pixel binning working on a 3:2 6K sensor in any way that would make sense. I'm 99.9% that the movies are all centre crop. I didn't read that about stills, i'd have assumed they were full RAW, 14bit. Also there's no mention of whether the data in the RAW is linear or log based - 8bit linear would be utterly useless and others have pointed out banding in the movies which originally would have thought it was compression based but maybe not. So 8bit linear is pointless, in fact only 12bit linear starts getting into the realm of normal. Some clarification from Sigma would be useful, but i guess we don't have to wait that long. I really want to like this! cheers Paul

    Crappy internet content

Take a look on that content then. You'll easily understand. I find videos of pieces of hardware to be destroyed pretty shocking and a complete nonsense. What the hell of point that reviewer wants to test in videos like this one as for instance? The durability of the gear against a floor of stone?! Really? The point is: there's such content because there are audiences to sustain that. I made part of my academic background along the 90s when I was used to be surprised with content from many people such as Krzysztof Kieślowski (who left us by then) or Lars von Trier (who built his fame to start in that period going digital BTW), only to mention two names... We live the exciting digital revolution times indeed but also Marvel's everywhere (take a look in the smartphone camera tests : P) at big screen included. BTW, there's an interesting recent thread exactly open in our forum on topic (to second some others on YT phenomena of nowadays too for different reasons though): Fortunately, I can see I am not alone on my standpoint : -)

OK, I'll try to refrain myself once there's someone (you) ask but that's outrageous... Give it a 2nd try : ) I guess there's a bit of a geek heart inside everyone of us. I hope so. For the best of intentions. How can that content to literally smash brand new gear to be celebrated by millions of views and thousands of comments?? I've followed those other threads on YT here but for a good reason. Hadn't found where to fit it, though. For a 2nd first-rate cause. Hence such. We ain't talking about mere discussion of ideas or concepts. In the name of what? Maybe that's only me...?! What world do we live? Hard to recognize it, beyond my own understanding... Shocking. Back in the early or late 90s, I had no idea to arrive to this century and assist to this. Pretty straightforward, totally lame to my view.

  26. I can't speak for anybody else but I'm certainly not saying that. The "Crop" reference is in the stills section, not the Movie Recording section. The figures in brackets after each primary resolution such as this : Are indicating what the resolution will be in crop mode if use an APS-C lens (which Sigma refer to as DC lenses for their own brand) hence this indicator at the top of the listings. An unfortunate translation with "DC Clop Mode" as it should of course read "DC Crop Mode". If you look at the spec for their SD Quattro H, they illustrate this a bit more clearly as its on a separate tab but if you open both you will see the same process, albeit with a smaller reduction as it is not being based on a FF sensor as the SD Quattro H is an APS-H.

    Nikon z50 Apsc camera

I think they are leaving room for a higher end DX camera with IBIS etc. It seems no one wants to give ibis under 1000. I guess we will have + 1k model as it is too much of a gap between the 2k z6 and this $ 850 model that will soon be 700-800. I see one model below that and one above in the dx line. I guess they won't continue long with their dslr dx line. When you see the af performance in the Jared Polin test, no one is going back to buy any camera withoud nearly full sensor AF and eye AF. They just published this

Yeah, so this is weird. I was going to say that I'm pretty sure people have modded them to be ai and that would one way forward and that I'd found you a tutorial video on YouTube of a guy doing it. So, I was idly reading the comments, as you do, and lots of people were commenting about him being a murderer and I was thinking "well its an old lens and I can see why people might think its heresy to be messing with it but calling him a murderer is a bit over the top but hey this is YouTube so...". Anyway, curiosity got the better of me and I googled his name and it turns out he's an actual serial killer.

    Best way to focus

I remember a master trick I learned from a YT channel (I think it was Erik Ivar Persson) for perfect dual focus on the fly: If we want to focus on a subject, say 3 meters away, we will put the lens taking lens completely wrong, in this case to infinity in order to get a pronounced bokeh on the subject. I remember lighting a bright object at that point of the subject (keys with a flashlight) and getting the bokeh at the desired focus distance. At that time I played with the anamorphic focus and that bokeh changed from vertical to horizontal, passing through a small intermediate point that was round. That is the desired focus point of the anamorphic block. Once in it, we corrected the taking as if it were single focus. It is an easy and fast method that helped me a lot. Dou you remember this anamorphic short? What's happened with his channel?
