  2. Historically (not that we've made cameras THAT long) we've always converted internally to YUV/YCbCr no matter the codec for SDI output etc. It's then convenient and easier on resources to do image statistics on just luma for zebras/false colour and that has not changed. RGB would be more ideal, yes. Personally I always set zebras to 95% for some slight headroom (even before I worked for the company and learnt how it worked) and after i joined and we added false colour, the "red" (highlight clipping) on false colour is actually at 95% for the same reason.

  7. As others noted, the camera accepts either 17^3 size cubes, or 33^3 size cubes. Yours is 16^3. I've converted your LUT to 17^3 using Lattice and this should work. Custom_Made_17.cube FYI, i would be careful with your LUT as you can see from the cube visualization there an odd gap at the bottom and the curves are not overly smooth (though I've seen much worse curves).

  8. Not seen any problem with my Viltrox .71 and yes it will be unusable on full frame as it's an APS-C lens.

  9. Today, I managed the impossible! Used the Pocket4K as a B Camera to the F5. Shot seven, five minute interviews, all run n gun style, all handheld with no additional accessories (using Canon 24-105 and Speedbooster XL) plus some B-Roll footage over the coarse of 8 hrs. Went through one and a half Canon LP-E6n batteries, they didn't get stuck, the battery door never flung open, the shots were steady (despite no IBIS!), they were in focus (Despite no AF or Focus Puller!)....and the Director was impressed with the footage despite shooting ProRes422 to SD cards. Must have been a fluke cos I'm constantly hearing that this type of shooting is impossible. ? Seriously though, Tilta look to be doing great things with accessories for the P4K and I love the integrated NP-F battery and SSD Slot in the grip. The only issue is that it makes the camera too wide. There really isn't any need for a handle on the left side of the camera so I would rather see a solution that has a battery or two in a battery grip that attaches to the bottom of the camera in a similar fashion to a Canon DSLR grip that would allow hot swapping batteries. Can't be too hard right?

  11. So, don't clip the highlights then... ; ) In a serious note though. ETTR... Expose to the right with this device. You won't get so much noise there from the shadows. Trust me ; -) Other than that, no camera in the world will offer you such Grail : -)

I see you two are as hard as the most tough Greek philosophy school... LOL : ) Embrace the excuse you want for that waiting game but... IQ??! The same you find along any 10-bit capture tool (applies for 8-bit or 12-bit devices anyway) if you don't care for your acquisition ballpark. There are no miracles outside the realm of the Lord : )) That's it (E : -)

  15. Great Lighting and Grading. Looks kinda 70s maybe early 80s to me. Or it could be a scene from Zodiac. Definitely a filmic image, looking forward to the video!

  17. Technically the pocket 4K sensor size is the same as the eos r in 4k mode. I would love to see sharpness comparison with the same lens from your hands.

  18. I guess you pick your poison. I've not had an issue with it. Depends on what kind of hand held, I generally don't wave it around in front of vertical structures, that would be a problem but in real world use it's not been a problem.

    X-T3 or Pocket 4K?

A really nice video about Fuji and Sony lenses, in relation of my previous post. Don't stop when he says 1.8 are for amateurs. It's a joke to demonstrate its subject.

  22. but the terrible rolling shutter makes handheld a real issue. From what I've seen the sharper looking hd on the EOS-R uses the crop mode which has bad RS

  23. Taken from the main P4K thread: https://tilta.com/2018/10/29/first-look-at-the-camera-cage-for-bmpcc-4k/ Tilta are going to release a V-mount base to sit under the camera. They're also releasing a grip to hold Sony batteries and another thing for Sony batteries to sit under the camera. @BTM_Pix - Is it not better to trust the power bank's LEDs over the BMD % ? Let it run past 0% and see if the power bank gets down to 1 light, or if the camera shuts off before then.

  24. Just checked now (without the 1:2.40 frame guides) and yes there is a very slight corner shading wide open at the wide end but I wouldn't call it a problem and nothing that can't be fixed in the grade. Maybe on the Metabones it's different though?

  25. LOL a M43 with 8K. That would be about as good in lowlight as a Canon T2i

  26. For people getting their hopes up, this is slightly misleading. My experience has been the following: The 18-35 will vignette even on a .71x ('ultra') speedbooster until about 20mm in DCI 4K (only barely and not worth mentioning in Ultra HD). It's sort of usable but the vignette is definitely there across the whole left and right side and it's relatively severe. It will basically be unusable on full frame on my A7RII until 35mm, at which point you might as well use the lighter, better, brighter 35mm 1.4 ART.

They are mixed up, with GH5 footage too! Actually, the point to have posted them... : ) You see? You didn't even notice it ; ) Check it there again, especially regarding the 1st one but the 2nd is an interesting sample for the subject matter as well ; -) Really, with care it is possible to match them! Here's the proof of it at its best : -D

    DJI Mavic Pro II

My only beef if I can tell it like that (nothing your settings or a committed work @ post may not be able to solve, after all) is actually that oversharpened look those customary settings bring by default. Other than that, here's another example from that cup standard already above-mentioned: As everything in filmmaking, the proof is in the pudding ; ) Here's another example of more a tool for all that theory to put in practice:

I will tell you quite frankly my humble two cents on it: ...the best device is the one you take with you as we both know ; ) Does that fulfills the cup? Take a look on that 1st clip I've just introduced with my editing, as for instance. So, fits my bed ; )) No extra size needed ; -)

AFAIK it will also depend on the shooter and settings, obviously : -) Not a bible but:

  33. In what way does the z7 disappoint, perhaps if he did take a little time and test the camera a little bit more he would know that every camera does not have same basic settings. You have sharpness settings on every Nikon camera and it can be dialed down, same for DJI drone for example where the default setting is too high and people know they should just dial it down. For me getting such a detailed and moire/alias free image from a 45 megapixel sensor is extraordinary and a win for Nikon. Now lets go the meat of that test, looking at a 400% enlargement of a 4k image is like looking at a 100 - 200 inch screen from about 15 inch. It is completely unrealistic, just good for geeks and not shooters, thats why all these cameras are very good resolution wise. Even the Eos-R would pass a lot of people eye without a side by side. What will make a difference when those camera rez are good enough now is colour, DR, noise, motion cadence and rolling shutter, with Colour and DR being the most important in normal shooting condition.

  34. The only unknown is the white balance on both cameras. Sean mentioned using a white card to properly set it, but this doesn't have to mean that it was set the same. Besides, have anyone heard about this C / M / Y correlation regarding skin tones?
    1 point
  35. Seriously, I have set my heart to the P4K for my next buy, but I worry that until then there will be 3-4 new cameras that will do the same, and more! What small camera under 2000euros can do in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was just unimaginable a few years ago. Yes, Canon 5Dii revolution happened, but right now we live on a sound and sight revolution happening on a much bigger scale that start from a few hundreds€ phones, goes to 1 thousand and a few hundreds € for raw cameras (!), and we have all the other ultra cheap accessories (drone, wireless follow focus, monitors, Edelkrones and what not), that make incredible content a possibility for everyone. Interesting times. I miss the seriousness and discipline of the past, but I love going to shoot something with only a ?!!

  37. The BMPCC4k is an evolution of the original cinema camera, and original pocket - combined into one camera. I think BM is going higher end with a large format version of the UMP.

  38. I did a few scenes as the only crew person not too long ago. I had the camera on a tripod, and used a friction arm to position my F4 just under the monitor. One glance to check framing and levels. It worked pretty well overall, and I didn't have any issues with the size. It seems like you're set against the F4, but as a non-pro-audio guy I can tell you the quality difference between the F4 and DR60 II is quite apparent. And you can use the F4 as a USB interface, so you won't need a separate device for that--which, to be fair, applies to the H6 as well I believe. If price is an issue, can you get by with just two bodypack recorders, and switch them between actors as necessary?

  39. I mentioned something similar in the Pocket4K thread just after I got the camera. I bought mine as a B Cam to the Ursa Mini Pro. Ultimately though, I would happily have paid a little more for a 'Pocket4KPro'. Sensor wise, I'm happy with the MFT sensor as I am using mine exclusively with Speedboosters. The other downside generally for MFT is low light performance but I'm really happy with the Pocket4K in that regard. Blackmagic, make a Pocket4K Pro with same sensor but a form factor that can include a tilting screen, can accomodate a Sony BPU-60 style battery, an SDi output and maybe has internal ND's. For me, I would want it a little smaller than an FS5, maybe similar to a Canon XC15/ C100 style. ?

  40. Although it is obvious that you are extremely accurate, clever and experienced to find all appropriate answers, maybe it can help or be encouraging a little bit: it is very safe to buy second hand Voigtlanders - for the quality their price is, actually, IMO unbeatable. Again: for the quality. I had and tested many Zeiss's an Leica R's - m43 Voigtlanders are mechanically even better build than Zeiss lenses (same comment I got also from some old skilfull lens-repair masters), closer to Leica precision. For example, interesting and passionate review if you missed it: http://streetsmartphotos.blogspot.com/2016/05/105mm-f095-voigtlander-nokton-8-month.html Metabones speedboosters are, of course, great, but after some time, if you don't tend also to use FF lenses on FF cameras, they could become annoying - regarding existence of Voigtlanders, SLR Magic Hyperprimes and, maybe (I didn't try them, as also Sigma 16mm) newer Olympus pro primes. About Nikon 28mm f2 - it is the must to check it before buying... they easy could be different kind of "lemons" samples. 28mm f2.8 Ais is brilliant lens, but speedboosted will be f2. With base f2.8 FF lenses options are many...

  43. No, you're wrong : ) No idea how long you are here, but I surely know how long I am reader over these boards and certainly about my likings... (wth we don't need to love each other : D but speak of your own instead :X let's just not personalize posters now; not even fair when this forum is made of good people for a good most part, I firmly believe) You can't know of everything, isn't anonymous fellow user? ; )) Comments? Maybe only a few, fortunately. Especially those specifically addressed to people but on that one I guess you already know what I'm talking about, correct? ;-) Men? Not even with an "A", you included, really. Pity I can't say the same when you misquote the other side on purpose or send personal attacks as you wish. Better focus on topics, dude! I've just posted over one of your other entries on topic. Better going in the right direction.

  49. Let's put all this on rest, OK? Let's focus strictly on the topics please. This is Andrew's house. His good efforts simply don't deserve it. Nor your past contributions and fellowship, Jon! I'd still appreciate to follow your posts and juicy insights over these boards (your readers need you! : ) so refrain yourself to write any personal attacks addressed to others, I guess we all beg you. We are all human beings. Opposite POVs can be written without offending the other side. No one likes to be publicly attacked, isn't it? As much as it is really unpleasant to see you or anyone else to be attacked here too. Only goodwill may able to be considered welcome. Regards to everyone, E :-)
