How I got scammed through "Ebrahim Saadawi"

I love this place as I find inspiration and positive energy here, so I don't like posting something negative, but I feel you need to be warned.

A month ago I paid @Ebrahim Saadawi for a SLR Magic Rangefinder he offered for sale both on this site and on dvxuser. He had previously done an extensive review of the Rangefinder, also posted on the EosHD forum. I assumed he was selling this unit; he told me he had no use for it and no interested buyers in Egypt. As he claimed there were no other payment options in Egypt than Western Union money transfer and knowing his excellent track record on the forum, I decided to give it a go. Yeah, really stupid me I guess.

He went totally silent after my payment confirmation on June 17th. I sent four update requests since then through the forum's message service, which he all read (the site shows you this). Also messages through Instagram and email. Still no reply. Being certain (and baffled) that I was scammed I was considering what to do. Then I read @Tito Ferradans cautionary tale in Facebook's anamorphic shooters group of a LOMO scam he barely escaped (he also posted that on this site). On Facebook, another group member, Tomas, mentioned he also bought a Rangefinder from Egypt. Same seller, same story.

So we have the second highest rated EosHD account ever (second only to Andrew himself) through which at least two people have been scammed. Now here is the catch: the account of Ebrahim is used by two people. Ebrahim senior, and his grandson Ebrahim junior (the profile signature also mentions this). The other buyer did get in contact with the seller, which turned out to be Ebrahim junior.

It looks like Senior has build quite the reputation with posts I myself have also greatly enjoyed and learnt from. Junior pisses all over it now with this crap. We'll see if this post helps him reconsider, at any rate, other forum members may be prevented of becoming 'fools' (as Junior so sympathetically described me).

Very sad, disappointing and disturbing :( After doing the transfer via WU, do you have any options to claim your money back?

This is Extremely Disappointing. I have been a secret fan of Ebrahim Saadawi senior, and I have really liked most of his posts.

Now if the grandson (with the same name) is Scamming People everywhere, I am in No Doubt that the Grandfather and Many other Members of the Family, are in the Know.

If Ebrahim Saadawi Senior has any sense of morality, he should have his grandson Return the Money and Apologise. If Not, it would Appear, they are Both, Hand in Glove.

This appears almost like and International Phishing Scam.

Wow that reply on facebook makes me sick.

It shocked me too.

Astonished to read this thread, as is an account which has been such a valuable contributor to this forum for such a long time that previously I'd have had no hesitation whatsoever to ever make a transaction with such a person if I'd seen something here I wanted (not that I have ever made a purchase via this forum, but I have a few times on a few other forums. Including when I purchased my first ever camera..... a hacked Panasonic GH1! :D ).

Timotheus, I recommend  you making a warning post like this to dvxuser as well.

I tried to buy the exact same item from him. I declined. Damn shame and sorry you got hit with it instead.

Hello Geof.

How can I calculate shipping?

I am afraid the shipping would be as high as 100% of my asked price thus I'd be selling it for free,

or else I'd have to increase the price 50-100% on you to get my asked payment.

Which wouldn't be very good for you.

(If shipping is low enough, it'll cost you as I mentioned 300$ total, shipping on me. Plus you certainly qualify for the EOSHD 50$ discount so comes to 250$ total, A steal.

If you shipping cost reproaches 100% (250$), I wouldn't be able to sell it for lower than 250$ + 125$ (50%) = 375$ (Still a good deal for you for the RG version with witness marks but a bad deal for be as that way I get 50% of my asked price, effectively selling it for 125$, but that's hopefully not the case)

Shipping through UPS seems to be the only available option in Egypt and Western Union Money Exchange seems to be the only way to receive my payment here. So we'll have to use these.

Thanks

"It IS a hit since I recently paid 599$ + 150$ shipping for it. But it has no locally customer, zero, and I have zero need for it. Another member offered 350$ to compensate for the 100$ shipping cost. So will go through with that. If it it's not sold i'll let you know. thanks geoff. "

here's details on him - the younger one at least - goes to the  Faculty of Dentistry

Lives in Mansoura, Egypt

His dad seems to be a radiologist (physician)

Makes sense, the younger one couldn't cut it in med school, so goes to dentist school.

I think using this info and geotagging facial recognition software with all his photos you can find his friends and then find him.

He doesn't work professionally in film, so he has no reputation to keep there.

So all you can do is embarass him at his school and his dental practice if he has one and then shame him with his father and his business and probably find the whole family.

I'm probably guessing his dad doesn't know this is giong on, so reach out to the dad on nofilmschool and find other ways to contact the dad.

Unless there is an explanation.

But anyway, you can ruin his reputation and really embarass the shit out of him with his dad.  Who will probably give him a good spanking.

the dad is a radiologist - i think you can find him

a lawyer?
