My cameras and kit

  1. Ok guys, here you have the Intro of Brokenman, the first 5 min, thanks for supporting the movie, I hope you enjoy....coming soon full movie.... thanks for sharing.. Lumix GH3 +Tokina 11-16(2.8), Voigtlander 25mm (0.95)
  2. Hey guys! I'm looking to get into video work, and I'm trying to figure out which camera would best suit my needs. I'm looking for a camera with great stills as well as video. The 3 main contenders for me are panasonic's gh3 and g6 and Nikon's d5300. All of them offer full HD at 24 at 60fps, which is crucial for me. They also all have a 3.5mm jack for external microphone. These specs are similar, but Panasonic's seem to be better for video. If it was video alone, I would choose the Panasonic cameras. But, I'm also looking for great stills. Right now I have the sony a58, and I don't want anything under the quality of its stills. The d5300 has better dynamic range, AF, sensor size, and low light performance. I've heard that the d5300 is one of the best APS-C sensor cameras for video, but it's also one of the most annoying to use. I don't want to sacrifice any stills/video quality. Which would you guys suggest? Here's a post by eoshd themselves against the d5300. http://www.eoshd.com/2014/02/nikon-d5300-review/ I would really appreciate the help!
  3. Hi fox ! This is my last edit, a short film about freestyle snowboarding. A beautiful day in a marvelous park (La Clusaz) with the two killers Matteo Cuny and Nicolas Palladio. Top of the pop, we finished with a beautiful sunset. So glad and happy to have shot this. Comments are welcome dudes! Some pics of the session can be found here : http://www.switchmag.fr/decouverte/2015/11391-session-park-a-la-clusaz-matteo-cuny-nico-palladio.html
  4. I began discussing this in another thread, but it was off-topic, so here it is: I'm ready to invest in some primes for my GH3 (I've got the 12-35 and 35-100mm zooms). I do mostly handheld street shooting, but I would like to branch out into short films one day. Question 1: If I don't already own any legacy lenses, is there any advantage to buying full frame lenses + adaptors over u43 lenses like Voigt or SLR Magic (apart from cost?). Question 2: Are cheap adaptors fine for video use? Question 3: How about the Samyang/Rokinon cine lenses? Question 4: Also, right now, I'm already using a shoulder rig to keep my OIS lenses from jittering (initially, for the longer zoom, but now I use it with both lenses with great results); what is the longest lens I should realistically be able to use without having to do post stabilization? a 50mm?
  5. Hi anamorphic friends, I'm working a lot these past months so I post less than usual ;) Here is a teaser of the new album of Arthur H, a famous french singer. It was done before last summer, shot on GH3 + my baby Hypergonar 1.75x on my Qioptiq 35mm f1.6 MeVis-C C-mount lens. Badfully I didn't have the GH4 yet ;) My actual work is a 26mn Making Of a long feature movie, shot by me in 4K anamorphic in Ethiopia last november. Stay tune. Thanks
  6. Please have a look at the music promo I made using a kowa 8-Z anamorphic adaptor, mounted on a voigtlander Nokton 35mm F1.2, using a Lumix GH3. I also had a Tokina .4 achromat and a Cokin Diopter +2 for the Close ups. It was all shot at night which presented problems as the Lumix isn't very good in low light. I was shooting at 50fps which reduced the amount of light I had even further. I also found that if the lens was fully open it was difficult to get a focus. Not because it was too shallow, but because it wouldn't focus on anything! As you can see I over-cranked the ISO on occasion, but I couldn't set lights up on the banks of the Thames at 3am, as we didn't have permission to be there. I wish I'd got someone to stand close by reflecting a bright torch off a white shirt though. I can only hope that I get away with the graininess in the spirit of low/no budget film making, and it looks like 16mm! Staying close to the subject, using the diopters, gave me a picture I liked the most. The bokeh looks lovely and soft and cinematic. Shots where I had to focus to infinity were difficult - the bokeh is ugly in those shots (in my opinion), taking the shape of a kind of horizontal tear. But I couldn't film the whole video in close ups! It was difficult to shot this as a one-man-band. Having to screw two different diopters on or off every time I wanted to change my proximity to the actors made it quite fiddly. I was also moving lights (I had x3 LED panels). I had some other taking lenses, but it wasn't practical to change during the shoot. Lastly, I know its normal to crop the super-wide picture you get from shooting 2x anamorphic on a 16:9 sensor, but I decided to embrace it. It's fun, and a bit silly, but its a music promo, so why not. Hope you enjoy. The track by Durlston George, his debut single, is lovely.
  7. Good Day! I'm new to the site and new to video work, but I've been lurking around the forums and Review Articles for a while now, trying to figure out what camera I should pick. While totally new to serious videography, I've been doing photography and very light video on the side for about 6 years, so I wouldn't say I'm blind to the more enthusiast thresholds of acceptable quality. With that in mind, I've narrowed it down to two models. Well... one. Two. Maybe just one. Possibly two. GX7. Or GH3. Currently I'm heavily leaning towards the GX7 as: - I assume focus peaking for someone that isn't trained in the art of manual focusing would be nothing short of magical(?). - I will not be needing high quality external audio (for the foreseeable future) (I'll probably mostly be doing artsy montages with music on top,heh...). But I've seen the GH3 recommended over the GX7 for video quite a few times because of: - Bitrate - Codec I have read Mr. Reid's (predominantly positive) thoughts on the GX7 and that strongly weighed into me currently leaning towards it. My question is: Has anyone who has tried both the GX7 and a more codec-competent (higher bitrate) solution ever been strongly frustrated with the former at any point? Like going "THAT WAS THE PERFECT SHOT! GOD HIMSELF PARTED THE SKIES AND UNLEASHED THE MOST HEAVENLY RAYS OF LIGHT THAT DUCK HAS EVER SEEN. YOU HAD - ONE JOB! " when you came home to realize that the water ripples in your perfect shot created the occasional blocky codec artifact? I guess my question can mostly be boiled down to "Bitrate Vs. Focus Peaking". I hope it isn't overly redundant. Any advice and personal input would be really really appreciated. Like... ...this much > [ ]
  8. An afternoon at Freeman's Mill park in GA. The camera was an afterthought to the trip, so I didn't have a tripod with me.
  9. Ok guys, here is the trailer(final) of "Brokenman" hope you like it, thanks for sharing Lumix GH3+voigtlander 25mm f/0.95+Tokina 11-16 mm f2.8
  10. I was offered the newest GoPro black edition for my birthday. We didn't buy it yet but while researching I red the newest GoPro's have a very low battery life. I'm combining GH3 footage with the GoPro footage. - Which GoPro would you recommend? - Perhaps the earlier version which has longer battery life? I don't want to take more then 2 batteries. - Anybody experiences with the wasabi batteries? - What things should I take into consideration when filming with both? Thanxs for the help!
  11. First try shooting FMX, not very easy ... Happy by the way, a nice afternoon in my big friend Julien's backyard. Goog vibes and atomic riding from a passionate guy. 12. Hello! I recently picked up a GH3 and am wondering what lens setup to purchase. I have done some research and am thinking about these two options. 1. Metabones Speedbooster with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 II (Nikon Mount) as I had the old Sigma 30mm 1.4 on my 550D and loved it! 2. Voigtlander 25mm f0.95 and the SLR Magic 12mm f1.6. Would love to know what you guys think! Thanks :)
  13. Hi all, I'm looking to get more into video- some short films, some video work- nothing serious, and I don't need the absolute best quality. I just want a decent bitrate, minimal rolling shutter/moire/etc., decent low light performance, etc.- something that's good enough where the quality of my videos are distracting because they're bad enough to be noticeable to the average person. The GH4 seems like a huge step up in video compared to the GH3, but It's like twice as expensive, and I can't see myself using 4K (I'm assuming that would require a more powerful computer to edit, hard drives to deal with the extra data, better memory cards- all things I'm not willing to invest in at this point). I will probably stick with 1080p, maybe one step up, but definitely not 4k. Given, I'm weighing my options between the GH4, GH3, and GX7 (which I read is actually better than the GH3 for video). I was considering the Blackmagic pocket, but there's too many quirks for me to want to deal with. I would jump on the OMD EM5, but the quality isn't there. I hate to buy a camera during these years of seemingly the most growth the camera industry will see for video, but this summer I must upgrade. Any advice/words or other models I haven't mentioned? Thank you for the help
  14. I think you might be interested to discover those 2 videos One is the trailer, one is the complete making of IF you like car chase, stunt and exciting stuff, you should have a look It is a remake of Fast and Furious made in China by the usual stunt team of Fast and furious 4 month shooting near Shanghai and I directed, edited and partly shot this Making of. Enjoy; Streets of Fury Trailer http://vimeo.com/98703764 Streets of Fury Making Of http://vimeo.com/97801113
  15. A sort-of mini-documentary about 30/4 Park in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, this is the first time I've gone out and actually interviewed people in a long while. I don't think buying a new camera is going to make me a better shooter, but I'm hoping that the GH4 won't have the horribly distracting aliasing seen in the guitar strings in some of the shots. I would also like to use some primes like the Nikkor AI-S lenses, so hopefully the peaking function in the new camera will allow me to focus while shooting. I may have to take this video down shortly because it contains copyrighted music. But the two songs signaled by YouTube don't match any of the content in the video.
  16. Hey folks, so I did a search of the forums looking for a topic that discussed the question I'm asking, but didn't come up with anything conclusive, other than that many purchasers of the Glidecam HD 1000 regretted their purchase and wished they had bought the 2000. I'm trying to decide what the best option is for my GH3––I currently shoot with the 14mm f2.5, and would like to use a Glidecam. I'd also want to use my Rode Video Mic and heavier lenses possibly in the future. Does anyone here with GH3/Glidecam experience have any pointers? Which Glidecam is best for the GH3 with accessories? Would the HD 2000 work with just the GH3 body/battery/SD card if I wasn't doing a shoot that required my Rode mic? Thanks a bunch––this forum seems cool!
  17. Sorry can't find how to delete a post. If someone knows, please let me know! Sorry again for wasting your time.
  18. Made my own music video to showcase one of my songs. It's electronic music aka melodic dubstep. Anyhow... made this with my GH2 and GH3. All details in the description. If you like the music better alone its available online on the major streaming sites. Enjoy.
  19. GH3 vs. GH4 vs. BMPCC Comparison
  20. I have a GH2, D800 and 60d. So far the GH4 looks like a very sensible next step, but typically I have 2 big jobs that need shooting before it'll be out. I have a speedbooster, and a growing collection of nikon glass. I do a lot of wide lens stuff currently with the tokina 11-16, but I miss the canon 10-22, bigger range and less barrel distortion. I shoot a bit of timelapse now and then Theres only about $250 separates g6, d5300, and gh3. Don't especially shoot in low light, but have found the gh2 blocky noise and fizz in the shadows to be an issue. If the G6 is no different in that regard I'll rule it out. (Some people say its better, some dont). I like the dynamic range of the d800 video, but thats about it. Really need a decent fast ultrawide for M43 or APSC too. (12mm doesn't cut it on M43, I need 7-9mm or 10-12 on apsc).
  21. On an impulse I've decided to go to Japan. Here's a glimpse of what I saw.
  22. A short edit from a pure sunny day with talented riders. Everything shot with the GH3, all Natural -5, -5, 0, -5, 1080p @ 50Mbs MOV I've used Olympus 12mm f2 and 45mm f1.8. Some shots with ETC mode, mostly handheld with the Aputure MagicRig. Edit in Premiere Pro CS6, some correction with Fast Color Correction. Your comments are welcome !
  23. Have been seriously considering this lens for my GH3 and (eventually) the BMPCC - though I can't seem to find any non-nature/event footage to get an idea of how it performs when shooting narrative work... The focus-by-wire and electronic aperture will be a pain for video shooting also... But the 12-35 range is really appealing (esp for the BMPCC). Anyone have any experience with this lens beyond test videos and home movies? Is it possible to create cinematic images with it under the right conditions, or are primes the only way to go? And if so, what would be an ideal prime lens set for the BMPCC (regarding focal length, not brand/model)?
