Hi anamorphic friends, I'm working a lot these past months so I post less than usual ;) Here is a teaser of the new album of Arthur H, a famous french singer. It was done before last summer, shot on GH3 + my baby Hypergonar 1.75x on my Qioptiq 35mm f1.6 MeVis-C C-mount lens. Badfully I didn't have the GH4 yet ;) My actual work is a 26mn Making Of a long feature movie, shot by me in 4K anamorphic in Ethiopia last november. Stay tune. Thanks

Hello, New to the anamorphic game, have some questions. Few pics of the Hypergonar HiFi2 on a 7D (BMPCC next up). So far the results have been very nice and love the flares, but we noticed this lens is a bit soft. We've tried adding 1", 2", 3" of space between the camera lens and anamorphic lens hoping to find the "focal point"... didn't notice any difference. Moving on, Stopping down at F5.6 - F11 has increased the sharpness, but not by much. I'm curious if anyone else has a quick fix or has played with the inner glass orientation ? Any info. is good info. :)

Hello everybody, here is my new anamorphic set ! :) baby Berthiot Hypergonar anamorphic 1.75X lens Qioptiq Linos MeVis-C 35mm f1.6 C-mount lens I've order a special machined step up flat ring, then unscrew from the C-mount lens the ring that maintains the glass, then replace by the flat ring. I've screwed the original Berthiot small clamp, then screw and aligned the anamorphic. This combination of these two lenses seem to be very promising. Sharpness and no vignetting :) Here is the set and two pictures taken with it on my OMD (video is coming soon). Thanks for your attention. http://www.flickr.com/photos/43243778@N04/sets/72157636631334626/

Hi my anamorphic friends ! Here are some new stuff taken with my favorite light and sharp anamorphic combo. Tell me what you think ! Thanks for watching ! https://vimeo.com/78594325 This movie has been shoot a week-end mid october in Bordeaux, and first week-end of november in the countryside. I'm glad to have now I think the perfect anamorphic set combination for my baby Hypergonar anamorphic lens. I bought few weeks ago a used Qioptiq C-mount lens, usually used in industry. This lens is very sharp, even at it's fastest aperture (f1.6) and this wide aperture is still usable with the anamorphic on it ! Some of the shot of the movie had been taken at f1.6. The Filick'r album : flickr.com/photos/43243778@N04/sets/72157636631334626/ It was not possible to screw directly the anamorphic lens on the Qioptiq prime lens because the front barrel is turning when you focusing. So I ordered a special machined flat step up ring to attach the two lens. I've unscrewed the ring on the Qioptiq that is maintening the glass, and replace with the special machined flat ring. Then I screwed on it the original small Berthiot clamp that can align the anamorphic lens. Then I put the baby Berthiot hypergonar in it. The combination suits perfectly ! The weight of this anamorphic combo is quite light. The Hypergonar weight is 57 grams, the clamp maybe 20 grams, the Qioptiq is 210 gram, then the two filters (diopter + variable ND) and step up rings maybe 150 grams. So the total is around only 400 grams ! And finally using the OM-D with it's 5 axis stabilization system with an anamorphic combo is very useful ! THE PERFECT SHARP LIGHT POCKET ANAMORPHIC SET ON OMD ! :)

https://vimeo.com/77265744 This movie has been shoot during thursday 18th of october 2013, from the morning to the end of the afternoon, bringing my daughter at school, then filming with my students at university, then taking my daughter from her school. When I started into the anamorphic experience, I was quite in a rush and ended up getting more lenses than I could actually use, so, in order to make them useful to someone and not only sit in my shelf, I'm letting them go. I modded them a bit, to make them easier to work with, and everything is described. Ended up upgrading the set of the Century, and after a long mental fight, decided to let the Kowa go to someone else's happy home. Both lenses come with a lot of extras to avoid any more shopping to get them working. After they arrive, you're ready to go and shoot whatever you want. I accept Paypal, the taxes are on me! PM me, or send me an email: ferradans@gmail.com 1 - Century Optics Bayo for GL1. (1.33x stretch, focus through) This was originally a bayo mount, unable to use with our loved threaded lenses. I got a step up ring "stuck" into the bayo slot, so it's transformed into a 52mm mount and very very safe. It's not a permanent mod. The lens can be switched back to bayo if you want, just unscrew the back and remove the step-up ring. The front element has a few cleaning marks in one of the borders, but they don't affect the image. It comes with front and rear caps. I also adapted a 77mm thread on the front - kind of rude, but it's safe and can be removed - for attaching filters/diopters. I'm providing a pair of very rare Spiratone 77mm diopters, with low strenght: +0.25 and +0.5. This combination of low strength and big size is very valuable when working with anamorphics. Also included is a Series 9 77mm adapter and retaining ring, +1 and +3 Series 9 diopters (in pouches), and, finally, a 77-62mm step down ring for the Sigma +1.6 Achromatic diopter - in original jewel case. Achromatic diopters have much higher image quality, therefore, are also greatly seeked by anamorphic shooters. And, when you though there was nothing more that could possibly fit here, I'm putting in two extra "anamorphized" primes. A Helios 44 58mm with f/4 fixed oval aperture, and a Pentacon 29mm f/4 fixed oval aperture as well. Both with M42 to EF adapters, M42 rear caps and front caps. The Pentacon comes with a rubber hood and a step-down ring 55-52mm to allow use with the Century. Both lenses have pouches. US$1300 + shipping Century photos http://www.eoshd.com...ry-optics-bayo/ Anamorphized lenses photos http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/album/41-anamorphized-lenses/ 2 - Kowa Bell and Howell (2x stretch, double focus) Sadly, I'm letting this wonderful lens go. It also comes with everything you need to start shooting. Lens in great shape, no scratches, no fungus, nothing. Crystal clear glass. Very little dust inside, which is common for a lens this old. I bought it a few months ago, when I was starting into anamorphics and now will have to let it go, because I can't make good use of double focus, and gotta make room for the LOMO. This kit includes the original front and read caps, as well as the original lens pouch, but also Redstan front and rear clamps (62mm rear, with a locking ring that won't let the lens fall while you align it, 72mm front) and extra front and rear caps for the clamps, to keep the lens ready to shoot, and safe, at all times. I'll also include a lot of step up and down rings to make the clamp fit into any taking lens filter thread (49, 52, 55, 58 and 67mm). The diopters included here are a rare Tokina 72mm +0.5, in original jewel case, and four Vivitar 72mm (+1, +2, +4 and +10) in a filter pouch. US$1500 + shipping http://www.eoshd.com...wa-bell-howell/ -------------------------------------------------------- SOLD! 2 - Optex 52mm (1.33x stretch, focus through) I'd keep this one as redstan clamp fits perfectly, but I just found a 58mm rear one, so this is going out. It comes with front and rear caps, as well as the original box. No markings, scratch or else on the glass. Absolutely top quality. US$750 http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/album/32-optex-52mm/ 3 - Hypergonar Hi-Fi 2 (2x stretch, double focus) I fell in love with the look of this lens from that Edwin Lee "Futuristic Shangai" clip - I think everyone into anamorphics has seen it. hahahah - and got it straight from france. It's quite a heavy lens and required a lot of extra gear to work properly. Following Edwin Lee's tip, I got the Velbon SPT-1 Lens Support, as well as a Canon 70-200mm lens collar, Vid-Atlantic's extra large clam and caps for front and rear elements. The Hypergonar doesn't have a filter thread, so getting close focus with it was a nightmare. I glued a 95-86mm step-down ring reversed on the front of the lens, so anything with an 86mm thread can be attached. It comes with a regular 77mm close-up kit (+1, +2, +4) and step rings 86-77mm and 77-72mm, for easier mounting or filtering. You just gotta attach the kit to your camera and prime and go shoot. Nothing else is required! US$700 http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/album/29-hypergonar-hi-fi-2/ 4 - Lomo Squarefront 35-NAS-4-1 with OKC 1-50-1 in OCT-18 When I got this one, I still had hope to adapt it into the 5D3. Unnecessary to say, it didn't work. The glass is in good shape, but most of the markings on the body are gone. It comes with the pairing 50mm f/2.5, and it works perfectly on other cameras. The only custom-made thing about this one is the front cap, that's brand new, since it didn't have one when I bought it. Rear cap's included as well. US$1200 http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/album/30-lomo-squarefront-35nas4-1-with-okc1-50-1-oct18/ About shipping, I'm from Brazil, and shipping costs here are a bit random. FedEx tends to be way more expensive than regular mail, so, I need to check before saying anything about it for sure. On the other hand, I'll be in the U.S. from March 18 to 25, and can ship the lenses from NY if any buyer from the U.S. gets interested. This will make shipping a lot faster and cheaper as well. :D

My question is : with that kind of result, do I need a GH3 and mainly an Iscorama 36 ? I'm not so sure now for the Isco ;) Could it be better with the 0.4 achromatic diopter ? Please tell me your opinion :) https://vimeo.com/59844561 GH1 hacked 720P 50 baby Berthiot Hypergonar anamorphic lens 1.75X Planar 45mm f/2 Hartbley Super-Rotator tilt and shift 80mm f/2.8 lens Tokina 0.5 diopter Light Craft variable ND filter Premiere pro CS6 light CC (levels) Maybe the ultimate combo for the baby Hypergonar anamorphic lens : the Planar 45mm f/2. As least for me. I've found for a reasonable price this Planar lens that I used to have few years ago on my Contax G1 rangefinder. I had great memories on that lens and sold it a few years ago for money reasons. Here it backs, for 200€. Popular Photography magazine said in 1994 that it is the sharpest lens ever made. Effectively this lens is very sharp, also at f/2. So I decide to test it with my (new, again) baby Berthiot Hypergonar 1.75X anamorphic lens, a very small and light (51,7 grams !!!!). For the close up I used my new Tokina 0.5 diopter. I just watched the export of this movie on my TV and I'm very pleased of the result, no vignetting, no distortion, and very sharp result to my opinion, with the Tokina in the close shot, and without in the wide shot. The very firsts shots (with the blurry corners) have been taken with a tilt and shift lens, the Hartblei Super-Rotator 80mm f/2.8 (Nikon mount). It is miraculously working with the baby Hypergonar, small vignetting when the lens is tilting, because it's a 80mm... It's hard to use because it was for me the very first time shooting with a tilt and shift lens. I surely have to practice, that's why I edited just few shots. All this was shot with my old hacked GH1 in 720P. I've received few days ago the new GH3. I will do test with this combo soon. But the GH1 is still in the race ! music : Masked Ball (Jocelyn Pook) from Eye's Wide Shut soundtrack.

###SOLD### to a member of EOSHD community ;) UPDATE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm about to put again for sale my baby Berthiot Hypergonar on Ebay tomorrow, but before I'm proposing it here, so you can have at this price, without bid on it : 700€ for the baby Berthiot Hypergonard, the one I'm using for all the movies you can see below 1100€ for the all anamorphic set I'm talking about below Please PM, don't mis this opportunity !!!!!!! Tomorrow it will be too late ! Shipping cost with insurance : 20€ Seb Farges For sale anamorphic set baby Berthiot Hypergonar 1.75X + Voigtlander Classic 40mm f1.4 http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110998900533#ht_1370wt_1341 This is a huge opportunity to have the legendary baby Hypergonar, a very rare tiny anamorphic lens, only 52 grams (!!!), who gives beautiful cinemascope images with the Voigtlander. You are ready to shoot in stunning cinemascope image on your micro 4/3 camera !!!! The set is composed of : 1- baby Berthiot Hypergonar 1.75X anamorphic lens 2- Voigtlander Classic 40mm F1.4 pancake lens in M mount 3- M mount to Micro 4/3 adapter 4- F clamp 52mm thread + 2 spacers with 52mm thread + replacing additional spacer for using the Hypergonar on other lens than the Voigtlander, with 52mm thread 5- step up ring 43mm-52mm (to go from Voigtlander to the clamp) 6- 39mm neutral filter (screwed on a 39mm filter without glass scotch taped on the Hypergonar) 7- step up ring 39mm-52mm 8- L.C.W ND variable filter 52mm 9- Diopter 52mm filter Nikon +0.7 As you can see in this set, you are ready to shoot, the variable ND filter allowed you to shoot at 1/50 in video, with the diopter you can focus around 70 cm (2,3 feet) and without, it depends of the aperture you will choose, but let say between 1 meter (3.2 feet) and 3 meters (9.8 feet) to infinity. There is also an additional spacer (that replace the two two other spacers) then you can use the anamorphic on other lens with 52mm thread. The Hypergonar works from (some of) 35mm lenses, then up, without vignetting. No vignetting with the Voigtlander 40mm, very slight vignetting at closed aperture (f11, f16). All my films are in this album : https://vimeo.com/album/1834786 examples in the album below : on the Voigtlander 40mm f1.4: https://vimeo.com/42652326 https://vimeo.com/43152755 on the Fujian : https://vimeo.com/31015180 https://vimeo.com/29881958 on the SLR Cine 0.95 : https://vimeo.com/41526220 on the Canon FD : https://vimeo.com/39510554 and here is two exclusive movies : password : lac https://vimeo.com/50931963 password : 501 https://vimeo.com/49723682 The Voigtlander is a very good 40mm pancake lens, it's like new. With the 43mm-52mm step up ring included, you can use it alone with 52mm filters. The Hypergonar begin to be sharp from f2.8, very good at f4 and perfect at f5.6. With the diopter you can shoot at f1.4 with sharp result. It's in good condition due to its age. Very tiny dust, no haze. I'm filming with the baby Hypergonar for month now, and I can tell you this is such a good lens. You can watch all the test I've done with it in the link bellow. As you can see I've tried it on several lenses (Fujian 35mm f1.6, Canon FD 50mm f1.8, Holga Lomo f8, SLR Magic Cine lens 50mm f0.95 and Voigtlander 40mm f1.4) and the combination with the Voigtlander is the ultimate set for me. 1.75X squeeze is also perfect, wider than the common 1.5X, and not to much wider than the 2X anamorphic lens. I apply 57,14% scale in Adobe Premiere. The baby Hypergonar gives very beautiful anamorphic flares and stretched bokeh. A useful comment from Alan about this Berthiot 1.75X anamorphic lens : "you have the smallest hypergonar lens ever made and one of the last designs of the great french man. Professor Henri Chrétien signed over the rights to his fantastical optical invention Hypergonar to Twentieth Century-Fox in 1952,he was legally bound not to develop commercial scope lens or work with any other studios. or sell the optics commercially. This beauty was the only tiny amateur cinemascope lens he could legally make and could only be sold in france and her colonies  it was made for amateur standard 8mm film cameras. his friends at the Société technique d'Optique et de Photographie (s.t.o.p). At first said it was impossible to scale a cinemascope lens down to this size, and make a usable system. Chrétien went too work and made this tiny gem a beauty. A work of genius. In the late 70s early 80s a supply of spare lens where found and and added too fuji single 8 plastic pocket size film cameras many of these lens would have been thrown in the dustbin in the late 1980s with the standard 8 and single 8 cameras, with the rise rise of video : ( so are now quite rare. i am glad the lens has gone home too france : )" "Me too ! :)" You won't regret that perfect anamorphic lens for your micro 4/3 camera (Panasonic GH1, GH2, GH3, Olympus….). It worth any penny !!!!

Seb Farges has been posting videos shot with this lens for quite a while now. I thought that it was impressive so I picked one up for myself. I believe that it may be the smallest anamorphic lens in the world. It is TINY. It's an interesting little beast (completely different from it's grandfather, the Hi-Fi 2) but I think that the footage has a nice, soft look to it! The Baby Hypergonar seems to work best in broad daylight between f8 and f16, but with the +0.4 achromat attached, I can take it all the way down to f1.8 on my Konica AR 40mm and still have pretty sharp results (and a five-foot rackable range that expands as I stop down). I should mention that there is no focus ring. You just shoot through the anamorphic. The lens vignettes very slightly on a 35mm lens (MFT), and the image bends at the sides ala wide angle a little much for my taste. At 40mm, I think that it looks good. And of course, 50mm works well too. Someone recommended trying it with a Nikkor 55mm Micro, which I did, but I was not impressed -- the extended barrel of that lens makes for a great place to conceal a tiny anamorphic like this, but you just can't get the anamorphic close enough to the taking lens. The flares seem to be soft, streaky blue and segmented white (or sometimes both at the same time). I find them to be very pleasing. The 1.75x crop vs the 2x crop that is a characteristic of so many other lenses is surprisingly more manageable, though I do find myself often shooting distorted, without an external monitor, just to have easy access to the magnified focus assist. Here's some footage that I shot this past weekend with this lens (attached to my Konica): http://vimeo.com/45483904

Some said it couldn't be done, so I had to give it a try. I budgeted myself a little extra prep time and brought my HiFi-2 to work for a six-interview shoot. Here's a sample of the footage: https://vimeo.com/50072695 PW: hypergonar Original crop. No color correction. There's a slight reflection in the glass that I will probably motion-track out. As long as you can ask your talent to move slightly so that they are in focus, its actually a pretty good choice to breathe some life into talking head shots.
