  1. I think I mentioned earlier in the thread but those are messages from the camera to the app to tell it what items to give the user access to. Its one piece of the puzzle in that you can still construct set commands based on them (or estimates of what they will be) but the camera will not necessarily action them and you will generally get an "err_parameter" message in your browser. An example of this would be to send : http://192.168.54.1/cam.cgi?mode=setsetting&type=videoquality&value=mp4ed_c24p_100mbps_c4K Sending this will be actioned by Panasonic cameras that have the functionality enabled but won't be by those that won't. In this respect, it is pure good fortune that although Cinelike D and V are not enabled in the app the camera will actually activate them if we send it the commands. There are other examples such as the ISO50000 mode and 23 point AF mode that aren't listed but I was able to get working. You will also see this selective rejection when you have the camera in PAL mode, you can send it NTSC based formats such as 1080p60 but it will reject them. If you then boot the camera using the multi button diagnostic mode into NTSC region you will be able to send them and it will action them. We can only presume that Panasonic had it in mind to have Cinelike D and V in the GX80 and left it in there. Something unusual happens when you tell it to go into one of the high bitrate 1080p modes in that it switches to 4K24p so its not entirely rejecting it but its also not doing it either. Again, I'll say that the LX100 is doing something odd with the Cinelike commands so there might be something worth tinkering with there. For now, I'm only concentrating on looking at command stuff for my hardware box (which is all I was originally intending to be tinkering with this stuff for anyway before I uncovered the Cinlike thing!) so hopefully now so many of you are using this you might all find some new stuff with your own experiments.

  2. I agree...if I was shooting something alone I would never be out there with a Cine cam of any kind, nor even a rigged out a DSLR style cam...the more low key, the less chance of getting hassled... by police or robbers for that matter...also I should have included IMO in my previous post, as it's all just speculation on my part, as to what Panny will do with this camera...I am working on getting a feature into developement plus have a book optioned (true story) that would make an amazing series on Netflix or Amazon...I would not be a target for this cam either, as if my projects came through, I would opt for the Varicam LT, as it would be perfect for my purposes and already approved for shooting on, if Netflix produces your project. Yes...but it's probably just a rendering...remember the Craft Camera...I think Panny posted a picture, that they knew would stir lots of speculation...the reason I'm hoping for a locking m4/3 mount, would be that then you could adapt anything and if the s35 sensor cropped to m4/3 and s16 as well as it's native s35 you would have an extremely versatile mount that would also encourage the purchase of Panny lenses, which makes sense for Panasonic business wise....anyway...they're certainly getting a lot of mileage with a rendering and a few forum threads lol?? Agreed...the event is streaming live on their FB page on Friday at the Paramount Theatre...against my better judgement I'm so sucked in by now, I'll be compelled to watch...I'll post the link below in case you're interested. https://www.facebook.com/events/1800044130310599/

  3. For real estate, the last thing you want is soft 1080p from yesteryear. (I still have my d750 but I only use it for still now, for real estate I use 4k downscaled.) On the other hand, around here the market for anything other than luxury is flooded with cheap services because it seems like most realtors really don't care about quality, it's about price and speed for them, so the soft 1080 probably won't hurt you there. For profile videos with shallow dof of course anything works.

  4. Sony must be crazy! I've been anxiously waiting to trade my loved A7s for a new A9. Despite not needing the high speed of the new A9, there seem to be enough improvements to warrant putting down $4500 for an upgrade. The problem is that for some crazy reason Sony has decided to remove the picture profiles from the A9 - no SLOG 2, no SLOG 3! This is pure insanity. How can I justify an upgrade that's actually a downgrade? They are charging a premium price and then purposely handicapping the camera!! Maybe the GH5 is looking more attractive. I'm already heavily invested in Sony glass and I'd hate to make the move back, but it seems like Sony is leaving us little choice.

  5. Yeah, the Oly has some special mojo for me too. I'm shooting the GH5 right now, but it's because I need 4K 60p for a specific client. Nice camera. Does things in a practical way. No nonsense, but also no big whoop. Doesn't excite me when it's in my hands. --Looking forward to Olys next EM5. whenever that happens I'll be back and I'm pretty sure that will be my personal documentary rig (and photo cam) for a good long time.

  6. I'm dying to share! Asap I will say - the project has occupied the greater part of my attention for the last four months, and is the result of a considerable amount of research, time, and investment

  7. I think that Panasonic can give us a 2.5k 8 bit 90 fps. Extra resolution can be really useful to achieve nice and detailed FHD. I don`t know any DSLR with this feature

  8. I've got something special coming for the GH5. You may feel differently soon

  9. First weekend out with my GH5 a month ago, I meant to test most of the features while shooting some Parkour / Freerunning. First feature I tried was 180fps slowmo and I got totally obsessed. Amazing feature. Here's a video of the test footage I shot with a talking intro and then some discussion of my experiences with it after. First real video I've produced on the GH5 and am loving every second of i!! Shame about the awful 1080 YouTube compression but hopefully shows off the 180 awesome well enough.

  10. Yeah but the picture is literally the best indicator here since that is the camera under that shroud. It clearly does not show a Micro 4/3 mount, maybe it has swappable mounts, but it looks like the EF lens is flush to camera mount... so it is most likely an EF lens. And unless they are still using a version 1 model, the EF mount is probably pretty accurate. Now it doesn't necessarily make sense for them to do that, but if you had to be stuck with native glass, I'd rather have the EF than Micro 4/3, but I'd really, really would like to mount c-mounts and Canon FDs and Minoltas, but the productions these will be used for wouldn't probably do such a thing, so EF it is.

  11. Hey Jon, not to be contrary, but I've always followed Noam Kroll's suggestions for CineLikeD... Con 0, Sharp -5, NR -5, Sat -5. Now he actually prefers CineLikeV in most instances, especially outdoors in bright sun and in CineLikeV he flips Contrast and Saturation, so Con -5, Sharp -5, NR -5, Sat 0. never really tried CineLikeV because I was always pleased with his recommended settings for CineLikeD. I also always underexposed CineLikeD by a 1/3 of a stop to dead center. I think @kidzrevil said he read the Panasonic white papers and that's what they suggest for the curve as well. If you use zebras, I would think 85-90% would probably be a better setting. I am not a fan of ETTR for 8bit footage. Too much info will be blown and the contrast curve will be out of whack. Of course if it works for you, then who am I to say.

  12. @mercer...you are right in what you're saying and I understand your choice with the 5D and the image that shooting RAW with it gives you access to...but that's not really a question Panasonic will be trying to address with this design...from a business standpoint you are not their target...you call yourself a hobbyist and you can spend a year or to shooting something that's lovely and as you self fund doing something else, that's OK...but people who are actually going to be spending somewhere between 6 & 12K depending on its base price and how it's configured, will have to earn money with this camera...unless they are Trustafarians, in which case they can probably get a used Alexa or an F65 or a Varicam...not even the Varicam LT records RAW internally and Panasonic has already stated that they would not obsolete the Varicam line with this camera...so regardless of all our personal needs and wants in a camera, Panny will have to make the best business decision for this cam as a company. Doubt that they have accurate info re this camera...Mitch on DVXUser is now working with Panasonic and their Cine Camera line (previously with CD recorder monitors)...the only info from him was that by the time he came on board, the camera was already in full developement...the rumor may be right...a guess based on the picture and the Varicam but at best it's a guess....I'm still guessing s35 sensor with locking m4/3 mount ala LS300.

  13. First clip is 4K, second clip is 1080p (it has the unique sharpness pattern due to the non-uniform binning used in 1080p 24/25/30p mode, resulting in more vertical sharpness than horizontal sharpness, same applies to the orginal 1DX) The difference will be more pronounced if you shoot a scene with more details with deep DOF. This particular scene has too shallow DOF and your focus is all over the place.

  18. Crickets and cicadas are very sensitive to highlight rolloffs, so they use Alexa's mainly; or just jump around and/or sing.

  20. And according to DXO Mark Labs the GX85/80 has better low light and better dynamic range than the G85/80, even though both have the same sensor and (maybe) the same processor. I feel VLog is hidden somewhere in there too. I wish Panasonic would just take $99 and give it to GX85/80 users.

  21. That's great! After setting one Custom setting to Cinelike V and the other to Cinelike D, you can make all the adjustments (Custom, Sharpness, NR, Saturation), save and still keep all the same settings on reboot. Nice, but stupid Panasonic didn't just include it if it's already there... probably taken out by some marketing dude to help sell more G80/GH5 units. Oh well, can't complain too much about the GX80, "the good enough/close enough" camera. It keeps getting better and better. Thanks BTM_Pix!

  22. You can change those in the camera as per the original profiles Although the name of the profile appears blank if you select it in Menu>Photo Style and then cursor down you can change the contrast, saturation,NR an ld sharpness. Changed parameters persist on reboot and if stored in C1 etc

  24. I have the a6300 and the Zhiyun Crane (version 1) and the Sony 10-18 f/4 lens. I don't have a monitor or mic mounted on it though. The drawbacks to the a6300 / a6500 when shooting 4K are... 1) The dreaded overheating issue, and 2) Very dim monitor that is highly reflective (not a problem I guess if you are using an HDMI monitor, I guess), 3) Not the friendliest codec around (you will most likely be transcoding 4K XAVC S into something else for editing, whether it is through your NLE's built-in optimize media function or something else), 4) If you want to maximize dynamic range, you are going to really want to shoot SLOG 2 or something very flat and really want to grade it. So it is certainly doable, just if you are doing it every day, maybe you want something that is a little easier to work with??? (Don't get me wrong: the 4K footage can be beautiful. Just kind of a hard camera to work with.)

  25. With the GX85 now having Cinelike D, a used one and a used BM Video Assist from B&H could be your friend if you only want 1080p for <$1000? Better monitoring, edit ready ProRes etc A real pity the smaller VA doesn't have XLR inputs like the bigger one as it would be a great combo. Although if you put up another $200 you could pair it with the G85.....

  26. So, I hope someone with some coding skills takes a look at BTM's finds to see if something more can be done. The GX85 or G85 would be epic with 200mbps 1080p.

  29. OK, I've got a camera in front of me now, so I'll give you the exact steps 1) Press Menu button on the camera 2) Go to the Setup menu 3) Navigate to WiFi 4) Select WiFi Function 5) Select New Connection -- (This may be where its gone wrong as you may have been using your previous phone connection ) 6) Select Remote Shooting & View 7) Camera screen will now be showing the Wifi glowing beacon thing 8) Choose the SSID ID it is showing on the camera (Should be GX80-blah blah) to connect your phone or laptop to 9) Camera will show message saying 'If you have not launched the smartphone application.....' message 10) Load the html page into the browser of your phone or laptop 11) Select 'Handshake' 12) The browser will now display 'ok,GX80-xxxxx,remote,encrypted' (the xxxxxx will be your specific GX80 ID) 13) Hit 'Back' on your browser 14) Select 'Connect' 15) The browser will now display 'OK' and the camera will display 'Under Remote Control' 16) Wait until you see the live view image on the camera LCD 17) Hit 'Back' on your browser 18) Select 'Deploy Cinelike D' 19) The browser will now display 'OK' 20) On the camera display, the picture style will not be displayed (top left next to the Mode indicator) 21) To restore Standard profiles, hit 'Back' on your browser and select 'Restore' 22) The browser will now display 'OK' and on the camera display, the STD picture style will be displayed (top left next to the Mode indicator) 23) Repeat 17-22 to switch between enabling and disabling Cinelike D If it does NOT connect the first time, then just let it time out and repeat from the top. Once it has successfully connected it will store the connection and from thereon in will connect first time every time. By the way, just to be absolutely clear, the quote of mine that you've used there relates to a different conversation regarding trying to guess at additional commands to get them working. It has nothing to do with what I've shared regarding the Cinelike D stuff as rest assured I would not share something without testing that it didn't break my own camera first. OK, well that sounds like if you got the handshake going then the camera is timing out, dropping its wifi transmission and your phone is falling back to a different wifi network and giving the 404 error because its connected to the internet while the page is referring to the address of the camera. This is a positive sign as it should mean if you start the process again, the connection will have been registered and you'll be able to get through on the next attempt.

  30. Yes, you just have to modify the html file so that when you hit 'Deploy' it takes you to B&H Website where you can then buy a GH5

  31. What you can try is- unscrew the focus mechanism on the side (4 screws), get rid of that two lube or platik knobs and try to get that whole front thing out (focus above infinity). Seems like you have to relube that thing. After that you can replace the focus screw with a lower profile screw. In most cases, you can focus closer than 3m. Today i got like 1,70. Otherwise there will be bigger operations for closer closer focus.
