Atomos looked like they'd got great timing releasing the new Ninja Inferno at the same time the GH5 became available but its even better timing with this upgrade of the LS300. For a total price of $3550 from B&H these two make a massively specced package. JVC did packages with Samyang lenses and if they've got any sense they'll do a bundled version of the LS300 with the Ninja Inferno. Everything about the LS300 on the front end is there (Super35 sensor, 4K,LOG,flexible mount,ND,XLR,dedicated controls) as are the clever features like Variable Sensor Mapping and the brilliant Prime Zoom function and mating it with the Ninja Inferno now takes care of the rest of it as on top of all that you get 10 bit 4K60p direct to edit ready ProRes on affordable media and a no compromise professional monitor with all the bells and whistles thrown in. Thats a hell of a system for $3550. Its probably not going to be attracting the same sort of user (or buzz!) as the GH5 (to which you could of course attach the Ninja Inferno and get all the back end stuff) but for people who really need a solid camcorder for broadcast work that can also be used for digital cinema then I can't see any better options than this. But they really need to up their marketing game and let people know about it.

Color science...such a tired overused phrase...as tiresome as filmic actually....My preference in a camera is actually color fidelity...I don't want the camera to decide the image for me...I want the camera to reproduce the colors my eyes see...I'll change it to the look I want for whatever the occasion/reason...which is why I prefer Panasonic cameras...to my eye it produces what I see...not some fairytale version of what's there...and of course the other part that's most important to me....they work when you need them to...excuses about where cameras are today and what they can't do is just tiring and ridiculous....get a fucking hobby if any one of these cameras can't work for you!...

When you buy and sell used camera gear you need to be careful. A lot of stolen stuff floats around and markets like eBay makes it easy for them to disappear. Even though you don't really need a heavy duty tripod for a GH4, that Manfrotto range is crap and IMHO a total waste of money. @kisaha you are absolutely correct that the OP posted a budget and that some of the advice indicates units in excess of this (mine included). However, there is a point at which it is also useful to hear from others that the planned budget is simply too low to buy an item with sufficient quality/reliability etc. Perhaps the purchasing decision could/should be postponed until the budget is increased? Indeed, perhaps the budget could be increased now in the light of advice received? This would potentially save money longer term. I don't think it would be appreciated if everyone simply posted a list of tripods within the budget with no comment as to their suitability.

I just had a 3 cam documentary shoot yesterday, here are some frame grabs from the 1080p sequence. Shot in 4K, 8-bit, Standard picture profile, WB 6000K Lens Turbo, Pentax 50mm f1.7, set to f3.5 Lens Turbo, Sigma 18-35mm, set to f2.8 You can see that there is a quality difference between the two lenses. Anyway I am satisfied with the results, no crop in 4K is a lifesaver. And here's the shooting setup: 2 spot lights on the back, 2 led panels on the front. 1 wide shot, 1 closeup + the main from the GH5.

Wow, I really don't know a lot about the GH5 color science. I have not paid much attention to it as I am not buying it, no matter. But from what I Have seen I think it looks like a pretty damn big improvement In Color Science, am I right?? But wow in love with Panasonic Color Science, gulp, yikes Fritz you are seeing something Way different than I see, but I am old and can't see too well anymore. IF you would had said BMPCC, Canon C300, eh Canon 5D mkIII Raw ML, heck even my Panny AF100A, well, well I am running out. Sorry for starting up another GH5 thread but figured this could focus on test footage/your first go with the camera. Here's mine - got it today, had 10mins of light left after work so took the kids to the park. A mix of 4K 50p and 180fps VFR, daylight WB, iso 200, Sigma 50mm on Speedbooster XL, Natural profile. Shot mainly wide open. No ND filter so controlled exposure with high shutter speed. PRO's so far: Options galore, amazing build, EVF/LCD= amazing. Picture looks GOOD! IBIS = incredible! CON's so far: Annoying sensor that flicks from EVF to LCD (can this be turned off?). Biggest con for me is not being able to flick to 180fps quickly. Had to dig into the menu every time. Really hope this can be assigned to a Function button but doesn't look like it so far. Grrr. I'm a GH4 and A7Sii user so looking forward to comparing. Be hard to beat a7sii but this beast might just do it!

Well if you looked at the very last line in my post you'd notice that I recommended a lower weight fluid head than mine My head is the DS-20 and B&H is listing it at $1311.00...incredible head though I'd say around the 20 lb mark, the 75mm bowl/mechanism starts flexing...for how little I move a camera, I still opt for this...weight's reasonable and you'll never replace the head...

Convince Panasonic to make it variable like Sony does, that way you get a whole range of focal lengths with the one lens or use a fast prime as a zoom (12 1.4 zoom lens anyone?). Wonder if they could do that via firmware?

Of course it could be put out by a company (not Canon) that may have a GH5 killer camera coming that isn't quite ready yet. That way, people hold off buying the GH5, get annoyed with Canon and then everyone migrates to the new flavour of the month. Or it could actually be true but that remains to be seen. For me the GH5 is in a different market segment for the most part to a 5Div.

it is quite awesome, that the losless tele converter now also works in 4K (in contrast to the GX80, sadly), so that users get a 1.4x crop which is nearly the same as having two focal lengths with just one lens. This together with the Summilux 12 as praised by @jonpais would make it quite awesome... Must resist.

I have those same legs and they weigh a freaking ton. And it's really not that easy to set it up either. Now once it is set up it is sturdy as hell, but... And I don't think the 3063 Head is really even a real Fluid head. They are more of a industrial head, meant to take a beating. I have heard very few good reviews on it working well for heavy video use. I mean sure for the money pretty hard to beat one though. But you are looking at 15 pounds of tripod and head here to move around. It will be a hump trust me. I have found with the legs to NEVER have the camera on them before you get it set up. The legs can spread out almost all the way to the ground, which is a good thing when you Want That to happen, but it can tip over too damn easy for my liking!! They are good legs and a accident waiting to happen all at the same time. But the center column is sturdy as hell even almost fully extended. It really is a Photo tripod, not video legs. Just be damn careful. and don't get in a hurry with them. No way you can kill the damn tripod, will it to your great, great grandchildren they are built that good. I mean it is a Hell of a tripod for nearly no money.

After using both for quite a while the a6500 is slightly oversharpened and IMHO the IQ is slightly lower than the FS5 in every situation. That much oversampling doesn't improve quality and makes rolling shutter jello way worse than what should be acceptable for a pro video camera. There is a a reason why F55, F5, FS7 and FS5 share the same 12mp s35 sensor optimized for video. S35 is still the standard for cinema, narrative and commercials. Given the FS7 and FS5 intend to be hybrid cinema-broadcast cameras, they're right to stick to that standard -many cinema lenses don't cover FF- though I agree with you it would be very interesting to revive the VG series... it was a failed project but it was a good idea and I'm sure it could be done better with today's FF sensors, faster readouts, faster cards, etc. I agree, but the same could have been said about the FS7 and look what happened. An FS5 II could be an update more than a replacement: improved EVF, new SD card slot to allow UHS3 cards with the second row of pins-, higher bitrates and/or XAVC-I -though using both L and I in many projects I can say 90% of the time you won't miss XAVC-I-, continuous 100 fps, etc. The "global shutter" part is what sounds wierd... What for? it's not like it RS is a problem on the FS5.

@Snowfun As I said, I agree, and I mentioned that tripod systems has to be very very expensive, I also propose the Sachtler Ace series that starts from 550euros, much more manageable than tripod systems 5 times the price. Budgets though, can be really tough, we do not know the people here, and when someone sets a "hard budget", then he must have his reasons. For most people in the world (I know, our world isn't a fair place!), 1000$ can be a whole family budget for half a year. And, to be pragmatic and precise, he has a GH4, if he is not planning to buy a FS7 or C300mkII soon, a Benro S6 or Sachtler Ace M will be fine for many years to come. If he finds the budget to buy the FS7ii or Ursa Mini Pro, then he would be able to reconsider then, and spend the 2500-3000 euros for a better one, because 1500$ right now, won't be sufficient for a much heavier load, it is kinda a dead man's land. How's the Air by the way? Which model? It is in my list, but I said, I had bad experience with very expensive Miller's before, and I am a bit reluctant. @pekoo I am not very familiar with the cheap Manfrottos these days, usually for similar prices, I found the Benro's a bit better, and that is why when I was choosing my head, I went for the S6 (S7 wasn't out yet, I would have gone with that). Someone with better knowledge of Manfrotto products can be more helpful. I will seriously tell you to consider one of the cheap Sachtler's if possible, the head is really good for it's price. The videos were taken seconds from one another. The only difference between them is the picture profile. The natural profile has issues as well, but the V-Log problems are quite severe. I hope it's something really simple that I am missing. I don't know the value of the ISO, I will try more detailed experiments tomorrow.

Well since I am nearly 70, a week away, but hell who is counting! , I grew up with film, made my living a lot with film , even Video, Sony Beta SP video, was sort of like film using tape, I have it, that look embedded in my soul, my mind. I grew up when there was Only B&W TV's, I Love B&W movies from the 40's 50's. So I am biased as hell, no doubt. I am looking for that look, sure am not going to go back to film, but I like that smooth, buttery look a film can have shot on film. Nothing like it. But I am a dying breed. film today is reserved few a few highly respected producers, directors, and they too are a dying breed. Digital is here to stay, but like Pink Floyd, Stones, ACDC, Led Zeppelin, it ain't dead yet. And I still like to pursue it if I can. But there is a whole new generation that can take advantage of all the wonderful Digital stuff, for really some cheap prices, and make it how They want to see it look. And that is a good thing for them to pursue also. Because by the time they get my age, it will be a , "damn this new stuff sucks ass compared to what I grew up on" thing. Nostalgia is a wonderful thing. Even if it was right or wrong, it brings a smile to your face. A happy time indeed. It is a reward for a long life's journey.

Well webrunner...that's exactly right isn't it and the cameras we choose are largely based on what we see and like and how they operate....and when I shoot on Vlog and grade it, and after some 15 + years around arrifex s35 you can trust me, the image I get does not say video to my eye...and I have never in some 150 plus commercials seen anything resembling video...more like little 30 second long Ridley Scott or Scorsese vignettes...you get the idea...short but stunning...for IBM...or Goodyear or Coco Cola or one 28 day Budweiser.....that's 28 shooting days...with a full rodeo and bull storming the camera...And none of those people producing that exquisite work, would look at a beautifully Graded Shot from the GH4 and feel it looks like video...because the image on it or a Sony or...Fuji or Blacmagic is so beyond anything we could have imagined five years ago, that now we are left with nitpicking..which is important because otherwise we'd have to buy them all....all of us... but the most important in spite of all this, is the camera that works for you or me not who makes them.

For the price I'd say you can't go wrong with Miller....and if patient you can find one for half price on EBay....bought a very nice $1400 Miller head on eBay for just under 700...Satchlers are great too...but much pricier...start with a good fluid head and you will never replace it as they can be serviced too...you can get to expensive legs later! I know the head is way above your budget but it's for a 22lb rig....their prices drop or rise fast as weight capacity increases or decreases

if any of this is true – that canon is making uncharacteristic radical moves to 'fix' the 5d4 for video – they should enable a raw mode on the 1dx2 with those cfast2 cards. no overheating! just dump that raw data baby!!!! ?

For such a low budget I can only think of the S6 Benro, and only on ebay (there are some new from time to time with very competitive prices). Unfortunately (or not), tripod systems are something that you have to pay, and pay a lot. I did a little research on the market, and I can't find a good one with less than 1000euros. Only Sachtler Ace L, but even the C100markII and 70-200 EF lens are already too much, and when I look for something better, they exceed 2000euros, easily. Such a Benro is a good backup/reserve/B cam tripod to have, and if you grow substantially, you can get something much more expensive later. Note: I wouldn't advice anything less from Benro (S2, S4). S6 is the minimum and S7/S8 are even better, but much more expensive (and less bargains on ebay).

That CDAF is distracting. Put Canon's Dual Pixel or Sony's a6500 quality PDAF in there and the GH5 would check all my boxes.

Have to say the inbuilt stabilisation is amazing. I bought the 42.5 1.7 iOS lens solely because I didn't own a fast stabilised prime for my gh4. I had the 25mm 1.7 LUMIX lens but that had no iOS and was unusable handheld. now with the gh5 I can happily use the 25mm 1.7 handheld.. and find myself using it more than the 42.5 because of the better focal length. i honestly cannot tell much difference between the stabilisation the inbuilt gives with a non stabilises lens and dual is 1 with something like the 12-35 mk1! oh and low light is a lot better, as is noise reduction.. pretty much shot in the dark at 3200 with minimal noise and after some neat video you would think I was shooting at ISO 400!

Perhaps not on a7SIII, but sooner or later they will need to follow Panasonic. Long life to the company founded by Matsushita! You're shooting your own feet, Wolf, if you're thinking you can or should ignore the new GH series toy.

For many that have moved away from Sony, they'd need to improve the following: * Figure out the overheating issue * Improve their color science * Move to an IBIS that really works and is demonstrably superior to just an OIS lens alone * Implement 4K60p...again, without overheating * A flip out VF would be nice, thank you. I'd be surprised to see if they really come up with something competitive to the GH5, but I'd certainly like to see that happen. It just seems to me that Sony is so set in their ways, they rarely deviate from the path. I've used Sony cameras for years, so I'd like to see them give Panasonic a run for their money. The more competition the better.

I really don't see the rationale in pointing the finger at Panasonic for not implementing (or giving the choice for implementing) H265 across the board, simply because it's used in one iteration of its many modes. The rationale for giving Sony the pass simply because they haven't implemented the necessary hardware, is not adequate. Why haven't they released a camera with the necessary hardware? How long has it been since the NX1? If Sony wanted to do this they could, but obviously they don't...for whatever 'selfish' reason. I'm sorry, IMO Panasonic deserves more credit, not more 'blame' than Sony and others, for at least a partial implementation of 265. Further, at least in my case, if there was an obvious benefit in PQ (not guaranteed), as the result of H265's across-the-board implementation, I would switch editing programs just as I did with the NX1. Using the argument of more efficient storage utilization, doesn't sway me either. Storage is simply too cheap these days for me to ditch my favorite editing solution for that reason. Jost my 2 cents.

two scenarios. with freshly charged batteries, it can hold this front heavy setup for about an hour. then it starts to fail. but i've since added weight to the back to balance it for real so that it will last for the hours.
