  3. This question is ultimately for a lens to pair with my anamorphic lenses, but it applies to non-anamorphic shooters as well so I have posted it outside of the anamorphic forum.   Looking at adapters, it appears the shortest flange distances (and thus, adapters) are C-mount, Contax, M39, and Pen F in roughly that order.   My only criteria is that the lens would need to be at the very least 45mm (maximum 85mm), and with a non-rotating front -- you'll see that this eliminates most "pancake" lenses.   The M39 Industar 50 (50mm f/3.5) and Contax Zeiss Tessar 45mm f/2.8 look like good options, but I'd like to start a discussion and see if anyone knows of any other good options.
  4. http://vimeo.com/71062233   For this video, I shot with a faster CF Card (100 MBS) that gave me 1344 X 1008 resolution at 24 FPS in Magic Lantern hack 4:3 mode without skipping frames. I could shoot for at least 6 minutes (I didn't try shooting longer). I did my color correction with Adobe Photoshop and converted to 2688 X 1008 in Compressor for Vimeo.   Thoughts and comments welcome. Thank you.
  5. I have a newly serviced and tested, super sharp CinemaScope for sale. It has a deeper Rose Gold colour than the one illustrated.   The ISCO Ultra Star CinemaScope Anamorphic Anamorphot with 15mm rod rail support included. Focus range is 1.5m to Infinity at all F-stops with a normal focussing helicoid as standard.   You can purchase from me direct from the link in the footer or via my ebay listing.    You can purchase with confidence as I am an active member of this great forum and I am Paypal or Credit Card friendly and include a 14 day return with buyer paying shipping.   http://www.ebay.com/itm/130969131159?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  6. Hello. I am fairly new to shooting dslr video. For the past several months, I've been shooting with a Canon t3i // Canon 50mm f/1.8. I'm now looking into wider (budget-ish) lenses. Obviously there are some really really nice ones I could get for $1000+, but for right now I'm looking for something a little cheaper.  The main two I've been looking at are the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 and the Sigma 30mm f1.4. My main concern with the 17-50mm is that I'm not going to be satisfied with the f2.8 and might want something even faster. I want my shots to look very cinematic and professional, which this may be a good lens for that, I don't know. My concern with the 30mm is that it won't be wide enough. I don't like how close up my 50mm is on a glidecam, when I shoot outside and want to get a wide shot of the landscape or something. I'm just not sure that the 30mm will be THAT different from the 50mm. Working on a tight budget, I need my lenses to be usable for many different things until I can build up my inventory. The kinds of videos I would shoot are promo videos and weddings, mostly, but I also want to shoot videos of outdoor adventures I go on.   I plan on renting lenses before I make a final decision, but I wanted to get some input before I even did that.   Thanks for your help in advance,   Josh
  7. Hi all, I found this lens. Actually I have no idea what year will, or the quality of their lenses. Do not know if it will be worth to have it and try to adapt it to my camera. 13. Hello this is my first post in this anamorphic forum. I've read the book, brought the lens and now want to share and learn from other anamorphic shooters. So if you would indulge me please watch my first and only video I made using a Sankor 16c + Hellios 44 with Vid-Atlantic VClamp. Also please check out the attached photo taken today which I really like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoQ9_hE4XZg&sns=em I love the result but my anamorphic setup takes much too much time, trail & error, it getting anything usable. One the trick that I've found very effect is the mount the VClamp to a uv filter so the Sankor has a flat surface to be clamped onto.
  14. I am selling another one of my compact Moeller rigs. This unit is freshly serviced and performs to factory specification. It has a Cyan coating.   See photo below of a similar lens I sold recently (right click for big sizes)   - Moeller 32/2x CinemaScope Anamorphot - Custom Lens Support for 15mm Rods/Rails - Sigma Achromat Diopter 58mm - Coupling Ring for 52mm   This is a professionally serviced lens and has NATO MIL SPEC Helicoid grease assuring you of smooth focussing whether you are shooting in the Alps or Cococabana beach. The lens is free of internal dust, fungus and haze. Focus range is 5 feet to Infinity and using the achromat can get you closer to 2 feet.   There is some paint loss on the high ridges of the focus ring and minor very faint cleaning marks which don't show in the footage.   You can use any type of lens with this rig - classic manual, auto focus, rotating front element lenses and even plastic kit lenses. The support, once set up, will guarantee no slanted videos.   The aluminium locking clamps are spring loaded, solid brass retention ring and heavy duty marine grade stainless steel cap hex bolt offers you the best quality.   Price is £465.00 plus shipping. Returns are 14 days at buyers shipping cost.   Contact me at the website below for a shipping quote to your area. or visit the ebay listing   http://www.ebay.com/itm/130951632142?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#ht_5280wt_1140
  15. Besides being a regular member, I've already sold more than a few lenses in this forum and in DVXUser. Since I'm from Brazil, eBay isn't a good option for me, and people really don't dig into anamorphics here. Once again, I have more lenses than I can use, and decided to let them go. Check out the description, price and pictures below. I only accept PayPal. Taxes and shipping are my responsibility. :) If interested, send me a PM, or an email! ferradans@gmail.com   1 - Panasonic LA7200 + Custom Front with 105mm thread + Redstan Clamp. (1.33x stretch, focus through) I've modded this one hard, to fit every need. Now I'm moving towards LOMOs and would be sad to let this baby in the locker, gathering dust. I've machined a custom front for it, creating 105mm filter threads for attaching big diopters - which are somewhat hard to come across.   The glass is in perfect condition, no haze, fungus, scratches or chips this time. Rear thread is secured with Redstan's clamp, with 67mm threads, closest pairing possible with the taking lens. I'm including front and rear caps - not the original ones - and the original lens pouch.   As everyone already knows, it's focus through, allows you to rack focus on the taking lens and go extra wide-angle at the same time. Has some problems regarding corner sharpness, but I think it's awesome.   I'm including in this kit a custom-made filter holder for 4.5" diopters, and three of these: +0.5, +1 and +2, Tiffen, in perfect shape. This way, you won't need anything else in order to start shooting with this lens, even at the widest lenses and apertures. This size of glass is very hard to find, and this adapter doesn't even have a copy. Single unit! 16. Ok so there was a previous forum thread regarding a rehousing project for the LA7200. Based off the video there, I have had this design in my mind for my own rehousing project and improvements as well for close focus and/or marrying the LA7200 with a manual focus lens and making an all in one lens solution for the Canon 5d Mark III.   Progress is starting off well. Getting the hang of AutoCAD and designing as such.   I am planning on first prototyping with a 3d printer I have access to then going to a further manufacturing step from there. Not trying to get too ahead of myself however you can keep track of the progress and id appreciate comments or suggestions regardless as I try to work this out.   Steps:   Design model in AutoCad --- 15% Port model into Google Sketchup 3D print prototype Test Prototype Test again.... Make changes... Probably test again.... Use AutoCad model for CNC machining Produce final model.   Planned features...   Close Focus and far focus at a twist of the ring. Easy to handle enclosure Focus ring easy lens adjustment Standard housing to fit Cokin P or other diopters much easier   Possible features   15mm rail mount auto adjusting focus solution Housing combined with Aperture adjustor on a Canon FD manual Lens Direct connection to the 5d Mark III basically making it a hack lens using a custom EF mount or 72mm thread AF confirm chip? (not a bad idea) All the lens flares! (ALL THE LENS FLARES!) Er multicoating removal. Something like that.   Close to exact Measurements via caliper - (short of cutting the existing enclosure in half. I could not get the measurements exactly for how close the back and front lens elements are in terms of distance)   Front Element - Concave Width: 84.90mm Height: 72.96mm Depth: 16.25mm   Rear Element - Convex Width: 52.96mm Height: 40.99mm Depth: 4.13mm   Front Element Holder depth - 17.82mm Outer Hood Depth - 13.14mm   Approx 23.8mm distance between the two lenses. (not entirely sure on this. Like I said, cant figure it out unless i cut the thing in half and really I want to be able to use it until the enclosure is finished at least)   All in all, working pretty well so far. Got the elements into AutoCad, and its time to start designing the enclosure for it.
  17. http://vimeo.com/70264199   I had all but given up on ever finding the perfect 8mm anamorphic lens, but I recently got my hands on what I think is the most rare anamorphic lens that I have ever owned -- the Zeiss Ikon Anamorphot 22/1.5x. It is almost impossible to find any information on this lens. I could not find any pictures of the lens, nor any test footage. In fact, the only reason that I knew that it existed was a tip from anamorphic Godfather Kostas Petsas, who also has one. He compares his Ikon to the Iscomorphot 8/1.5x.   Like the Iscomorphot 8/1.5x, it's an 8mm "baby" lens that is fully rack-focusable. The helicoid is smooth and has a very manageable throw, so focusing is no problem at all as you will see in the test video above. The slightly wider diameter actually makes the lens easier to focus the baby Isco, and of course it is much more focus-friendly than the strenuous focus throw of the Iscorama.     It's a little bigger than the Iscomorphot 1.5x (front filter thread is about 43mm, and rear diameter is about 32mm) but still much smaller and lighter than the Iscomorphot 2x or the Iscorama. It's nice not to have to add in a support system to hold the weight of the additional lens. Coupled with a DSLR, a taking lens with a silver finish and a silver clamp from Redstan, this could be a great stealth anamorphic setup.   I think that perhaps the most substantial difference between the Ikon and the Iscomorphot is that the Ikon is usable when the taking lens is wide open (at least at f/1.8). Though it is not razor sharp like the Iscorama, I don't see a limitation here.    The minimum focus distance is impressive. I've been able to focus as close as 22" wide open without any diopters.   I haven't really put it through the paces yet, but from what I've seen, the lens has some nice, understated character. It's a lot less smeary than some of the 8mm anamorphics that I have used. The flares are thinly stretched blue ovals, similar to my Moller 32/2x (but I think that I may like the Zeiss flares even more).     I have been able to use it with my FS100 with a 50mm lens, which is usually my go-to lens when I first get an anamorphic lens. I'll have to test it to see if I can get away with using a wider taking lens.   I am excited about this lens. It is the easiest, simplest anamorphic lens that I have ever used and the image is very pleasing. I think that this is a winner. If anyone else has one, I'd love to compare notes.

  19. Im in Japan right now and hunting for anamorphic lenses. Havent found any for a good price until today. Two anamorphic lenses which Ive never heard before.   Cornie Anamorphic 16 Hokushin Anamorphic-16     Its about 90$ for the first one and 130$ for the second lens. Is it worth the money? What adaptors can I use to get it working on my Canon 7D?   The guy who owns the camera shop has limited english skills and didnt even know he had anamorphic lenses and what they are used for. I found them in the shop by accident.   The second lens appear to be promising, Ive been searching the web for more info and reviews about it but cant  find anything. Thats why im asking you guys, the best anamorphic forum on the web for help!   Best Regards Denko
  20. Hi all, I've been hesitating forever of even thinking about starting the long process of collecting lenses, due to the inertia that the neverending onslaught of new technology brings. There are so many promising directions this whole world could go, from the super-16 BMPC to the full-frame Canon 5D Mark III RAW, so my current thinking is that it's most sensible to go with the largest coverage format (full frame) and collect lenses from there, and then if the market settles anywhere (super 35, full frame, APS-C), you won't have obsolete glass lying around. I'm looking for as many people as possible to poke holes in the intuition or offer different plans as my current one:   I've been thinking lately about collecting Nikon AI-S lenses, since they are the final (and presumably, best?) generation of Nikon manual focus glass.   Some advantages as I see it are: adaptibility to the largest range of lens mounts long-focus throw age-related image character je ne sais quoi good build quality relatively cheap relatively compact Nikon quality (perceived? Is Canon just as good/better? Does Canon have an equivalent AI-S-era option that would work on current Canons?) Nikon-optimization, as I prefer Nikon for stills work Cheap adapters can control aperture, as opposed to Canon mount Fast   Some disadvantages that I would imagine: Breathing and every other problem inherent in stills-optimized/non-cine lenses Difficulty finding cheap super wide options that would translate to normal lenses on much smaller sensors (Super 16, M43, BMCC, 1") Futility of collecting for BMPC when you end up settling on a 5DIII and have all these useless super-wides   I'm sure a lot of people on here have thought a lot harder than I have about this quandry, or have skin in the game already, so if anyone has some personal experience or insight on how the filmmaking community is currently addressing this issue, please contribute any and all wisdom! What are general lens collection strategies to maximize utility and minimize cost? Is it presumed that lenses will hold value, so you can just sell them off with minimal long-term losses? Are there lenses that better meet ones needs? Would Canon make more sense, since a follow focus will allow for long focus throws anyway? Are there cheaper options (Contax (Zeiss), for example?)   One caveat:   I shoot stills as well. Is it ridiculous to think that shooting manual focus on all my various stills cameras (NEX-7, GH2, frequent Nikon rentals) is possible, and that I'd need to invest in a second set of AF stills camera (obviously this is a nuanced question, as different photography genres have different needs, but my work does include street photography).

  22. I know its like beating a dead horse. Long shot, but looking to see if i can find a proper +0.4 diopter for the Panasonic LA7200. Not finding much of anything so figured id post see if anyone either has one to sell or knows some good spots to look. Thanks!
  23. I have just won a Soligor CD 8/500mm mirror lens, the rare smaller one to put behind Big Bob (see pic below). Big Bob has a rear optic of 80mm and the Soligor is 72mm so all should be OK, when it arrives.   As you know mirror lenses produce interesting aperture reflections which are round but have a hollow center because of the central mirror. (those of you may remember the Capt Scarlet & the Mysterons, a puppet show on UK TV)   Anyway, I have been thinking about what the aperture reflections will look like and indeed what the bokeh will look like when it is anamorphosed.   It may be  1 oval outside with an oval hollow 2 oval outside  with a circular hollow 3 something else   What do you think?   Also what will happen to the flares? They may be 4 horizontal continuous lines as usual 5 horizontal broken lines     I have a box of virtual cigars for the winners :P
  24. As a result of a slight cash shortage I have decided to sell 2 of my most prized lenses. Yes it hurts ;)   - Voigtländer Nokton 25mm f/0.95 (SOLD) - Olympus M.Zuiko 12mm f/2.0   [attachment=562:voigt+olympus.jpg]   Both are extremely sought-after prime lenses for the Micro Four Thirds system. The Olympus is arguably the best wide-angle lens available for the GH2 and GH3, and the Voigtländer's reputation as a beautiful video and photography lens is well-deserved.   Both lenses are in perfect working order, with only a few minor cosmetic bumps. The glass is completely free of scratches, internal dust or fungus.   Lenses are on offer seperately or together with a generous discount ;) PM me for pricing & more photographs if you are interested! Or contact me at jack.versen@gmail.com.
