I just bought a vistascope (the 16mm version).   I'm wondering what diopters/ close up filters I should get for this anamorphic.   Any suggestions would be great!   Thanks :)

I am looking to buy an anamorphic lens. A few caveats, I have done some research however if anyone is selling feel free to reply here or send me a private message.   This is also a sort of feel out post as well see what everyone recommends. I havent used one myself however I have done research including getting the guide so I know what Im dealing with.   No projection lenses. Large and bulky, I dont need anything like that. My arm was damaged a few years back. MRSA took 60% of my deltoid. Need it small hopefully well smaller than a projection lens at least.   Not too picky on the squeeze ratio. Anamorphic is anamorphic, I mean the closer to 2:39:1 the better.   Lens flares are important. Want nice wide ones high quality would be fantastic.   Rack focus, definitely a must. Less adjustment on the lens itself the better. Have hard enough time freehanding while manual focusing one lens much less two XD.   Also in reference to the camera I have a Canon EOS 5d Mark III and a Mark II of the lenses I have 35 1.4L, 50mm 1.2L and a 70-200 2.8L IS II USM   I gather I may need an 85mm lens to take advantage of rack focus and an anamorphic lens with the full frame cameras. No problems there just feeling it out seeing whats available. If i can find the right lens that meets the specifications I need for a competetive price well im looking to buy thats for sure.   In any case let me know. I think I got most of my information correct. I would prefer under $4000. A comfortable range for me is $1000-2000 $3000 if its a top quality lens id say.

When I started into the anamorphic experience, I was quite in a rush and ended up getting more lenses than I could actually use, so, in order to make them useful to someone and not only sit in my shelf, I'm letting them go. I modded them a bit, to make them easier to work with, and everything is described.   Ended up upgrading the set of the Century, and after a long mental fight, decided to let the Kowa go to someone else's happy home. Both lenses come with a lot of extras to avoid any more shopping to get them working. After they arrive, you're ready to go and shoot whatever you want. I accept Paypal, the taxes are on me! PM me, or send me an email: ferradans@gmail.com 1 - Century Optics Bayo for GL1. (1.33x stretch, focus through) This was originally a bayo mount, unable to use with our loved threaded lenses. I got a step up ring "stuck" into the bayo slot, so it's transformed into a 52mm mount and very very safe. It's not a permanent mod. The lens can be switched back to bayo if you want, just unscrew the back and remove the step-up ring. The front element has a few cleaning marks in one of the borders, but they don't affect the image. It comes with front and rear caps. I also adapted a 77mm thread on the front - kind of rude, but it's safe and can be removed - for attaching filters/diopters. I'm providing a pair of very rare Spiratone 77mm diopters, with low strenght: +0.25 and +0.5. This combination of low strength and big size is very valuable when working with anamorphics. Also included is a Series 9 77mm adapter and retaining ring, +1 and +3 Series 9 diopters (in pouches), and, finally, a 77-62mm step down ring for the Sigma +1.6 Achromatic diopter - in original jewel case. Achromatic diopters have much higher image quality, therefore, are also greatly seeked by anamorphic shooters.   And, when you though there was nothing more that could possibly fit here, I'm putting in two extra "anamorphized" primes. A Helios 44 58mm with f/4 fixed oval aperture, and a Pentacon 29mm f/4 fixed oval aperture as well. Both with M42 to EF adapters, M42 rear caps and front caps. The Pentacon comes with a rubber hood and a step-down ring 55-52mm to allow use with the Century. Both lenses have pouches. It's quite a heavy lens and required a lot of extra gear to work properly. Following Edwin Lee's tip, I got the Velbon SPT-1 Lens Support, as well as a Canon 70-200mm lens collar, Vid-Atlantic's extra large clam and caps for front and rear elements.   The Hypergonar doesn't have a filter thread, so getting close focus with it was a nightmare. I glued a 95-86mm step-down ring reversed on the front of the lens, so anything with an 86mm thread can be attached. It comes with a regular 77mm close-up kit (+1, +2, +4) and step rings 86-77mm and 77-72mm, for easier mounting or filtering.   You just gotta attach the kit to your camera and prime and go shoot. If you are looking for anamorphic lenses - you already know this is the holy grail of them all. Covers full frame at 50mm and 100% rack focusable.   Mint condition with both front and rear caps. Includes it's original 50mm f/2.8 taking lens in Nikon mount. This is the original 1968 single coated version.   I am willing to sell it for $x,xxxx.xx cash meetup at a local NYC bank or trade for some 8mm anamorphics + cash on your end. Shot some small tests with the Iscorama on my d800 last week. Shot on D800 with the nikon 50mm 1.4D and Tokina +0.4 diopter and Hoya +1 diopter. I did mention this in another thread, but I think that it probably deserves its own topic. For those of you trying to mount diopters on LA7200 anamorphic lenses, this is what I have been doing (see pictures). The binding product is called Dual Lock. It is similar to velcro but is adhesive-sided and creates a stronger bond. I never have to worry about my diopters slipping off. It works well with inexpensive Cokin-P diopters as pictured. With a GH2, I can shoot with the Voigtlander Nokton and the LA7200 with only slight vignetting. So 30mm and up should be vignette free. It's a very simple concept but I haven't seen anyone else using it and it took me a while to figure it out. I hope that others find it useful.

Basically just unscrew the rear lens and attach the anamorphic adapter to a DSLR/lens setup. If you are curious, here is an image (link below) taken with a Canon 7D, a Canon EF-S 60mm and the ISCO handheld at the front of the assembly. I have not tested any of its other qualities or shortcomings but this image may serve as a basic reference for anyone else considering such a lens. This is the first image taken with the setup. I set the red ISCO on infinity and focused with the Canon EF-S 60mm. Next step is to arrange an appropriate clamp. Hi!   I´m planning on buying a new lens to my GH2. I was planning on buying the 25mm Vöigthlander 0.95 prime, but now I'm not sure anymore. When the BMPCC is released this summer I'm planing to upgrade.   So the question is (with the 3x crop factor on the BMPCC) should I buy another lens? I´m open for suggestions. Maybe some c-mount lenses instead?    Please i need your advise on this decision. 

After reading Andrew's post on The Forgotten Anamorphic, and purchasing his helpful guide, I bought a Proskar 16-A.   I'm relatively new to anamorphic and have a Sankor 16D and DO 16F.  Using the Redstan clamps and recommended taking lenses, I've had good success with those two so far.   However, the Proskar I received seems more like a magnification lens than projection adapter.  I can't pull any focus and knew there was something "different" when I looked through the adapter vs. my other anamorphics.   I've attached two pictures as a reference.  I basically have to be right on top of the quarter to see that it's a quarter when looking through the Proskar.  No problem identifying the quarter at larger distances using the DO or Sankor.   I've tried the Helios 44m-4 and Jupiter-9 taking lenses, which work fine with the Sankor and DO.     I saw that Andrew used a Canon FD 50mm Macro lens and wanted to investigate further before adding another lens to the mix (I would have to buy this.)   I'm thinking the adapter may be bad?  I haven't ruled out operator error, but...   Any thoughts, suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.   [attachment=456:DO16F.jpg]  [attachment=457:Proskar16A.jpg]

http://youtu.be/y2KdP55tIz8   I took the Izukar-scope out for a little walk today and for those that are interested, this is what i came back with.   i've added a bit of a description in the youtube link, but it's getting a bit late here now, and i'm a bit knackered and a bit sunburnt :(  so i'll just copy that here,... tomorrow i'll add a bit more about what it's like to use and some pics of the lens itself as i plan to put it up for auction.       The Izukar-scope is a fixed focus x1.5 anamorphic lens made for 8mm movie cameras and projectors. Similar to the Sankyoscope, but this is a two optic system rather than a mirror system like the Sankyoscope which makes it quite usable at f2.8 with a good taking lens, kind of alright at f2.    larger apertures and it goes a bit shit since tonnes of light leaks in from the sides washing the image out, and you start getting double vision out on the sides as the taking lens lets  more light in.   Made in Japan by Ichizuka Optics, circa a long fucking time ago :)   Taking lens: Contax Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm f1.4 Camera: Panasonic Lumix GH2   Straight out of the camera using the 24p Apocalypse Now Boom hack, no colour or level adjustments done.    Shot mostly at f2.8 - f5.6 at 1/50 24p movie mode with an ND8, ND4 and a polarizer stacked on the front of the Izukar-Scope.   Shot at 2pm-ish under harsh light cos i was curious as to how it would do.   Close ups done with the dedicated diopter that screws onto the lens.

Hi there,   I am a german-based cinematographer an I have observed dslr video only from a distance until recently. To many problems to really see the picture. The GH2 I once played with for a day or two, I actually liked he best - lots of detail in the pictures, and that little screen is useful - but than again the clipping of the highlights and the banding in the sky, and worst, those deep shadows - not really an option. Now I have a project I have to shoot with a small camera, it need to be almost invisible. I did some testing with the Mark III and the d5200. At first I was really impressed with the d5200 - I like the image, it has a lot of detail, the dynamic range is not bad, an it feel rather natural. But then there is the noise in low light ... and the handling is a mess. You need to go out of the live-view to change the aperture - not very usefull. Then I had a close look at the Mark III, which has a much better handling - except for the fixed screen. But comparing the images of both, in the Mark III I saw all the things I don't like about dslr video. So for me it is the d5200 - the pictures feel much more natural an organic. Anyway, here is my Topic: I am looking for a proper wide angle zoom with image stabilisation. I am shooting documentary style, and I cannot use a shoulder rig or anything like that. Has anyone got experience with this type of lenses? I am talking about the nikon 1:4 16-35mm VR or similar. I am right now testing a Sigma 2,8 17-55, and it is not convincing. To soft, to much distortion, all straight lines are bending, no matter whether it is at 17, 21, 24 or even 50 milimeters. So what is a proper lens with image stabilisation?  

Been working on this one for quite some time...  Just in time for the premiere for season 3 tonight, my Game of Thrones spoof, "Winter is Coming."   Shot on hacked GH2 with a Bolex anamorphic.  Mounted with an awesome clamp by Redstan  (seriously, top-notch stuff.  Well worth the wait/cash.)   Taking lenses were Nikon 35 f2.8, Konica 40 1.7, Nikon 50 1.2, and Super Tak 135.   Color by Shian Storm's ColorGhear, my first attempt, so be gentle!   Shot at numerous locations over the last few months, including a re-shoot for the band sequences as I couldn't' stand how the first set turned out.  (hated the background.)  We also got very, very lucky with the weather for the outdoor battle scene. Hello,   I'm new to this forum and also to anamorphic shooting, though I worked as steadicam operator on projects with rented hawk lenses before. I downloaded the anamorphic shooters guide, read the forum and watched videos so far.   Recently I purchased my first anamophic lenses on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/290889768316 a set of Rathenower Rectimascopes 48/2x which I might get soon. Videos on youtube confinced me about how sharp they are. But after reading what JohnBarlow did with his Moeller rig and the option to use autofocus lenses with single AF by half pressing the camera shutter http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/2398-my-compact-moeller-322x-rig-scope-on-a-rope  I wonder if it is not possible to use a camera with continous autofocus for the rear lens at all. This way one would only have to focus the anamorphic lens and the rear is adjusted by the camera with contrast autofocus. No reason to fear the autofocus might adjust to the backround in this setup, though.   I have a Canon 60D and no autofocus lens at the moment since I use my old Contax/Yashica lenses for video and also photos but what I've read in the manual their autofocus won't allow for continous and fluent focus revision. But a Panasonic GH series camera might do the trick and that would be a good reason to buy one. Eventually there is somebody who already tested this approach with dual focus lenses?   Thanks, Andreas
