    Dear Andrew...

Not sure where you're going with that? Are you leaving EOSHD because you feel like you've outgrown it or something? Or was it just the point of saying 'thanks' for allowing the guidance of your journey to your present day situation? So, I take it everyone is welcome here whether you own a cellphone or a RED. But... there's a lot of people that could use some help figuring all this shit out when starting out. And there's just too many places that are too pro, too serious and couldn't care less about n3wbz. I feel like here, there's no judgement, whether you're using a Sony F35, URSA Mini, GH5 or T2i/550D... it's all good, it's about getting the basics right and being able to deliver convincing content and there's more to that than an expensive camera. Think the crowd here is mix of professionals and enthusiasts that aren't quick to judge and are supportive of eachother. Positive vibes. There's too few places like that around on the good ol' interw3bz. Anyways. There's continuously going to be people starting out and not that quick to drop $3k+ on a camera and of course the core that gets more experience and higher end equipment as time goes on. That just allows for more interesting insights and knowledge to be spread around here, so personally I don't see the DSLR community going anywhere... if by that you mean the users of consumer & prosumer DSLR and mirrorless cameras that want to practice their art and be executing their talent as cinematographer or filmmaker. And isn't an URSA Mini a mirrorless camera at the end of the day either? And one more accessible than an ARRI? Seems there are a lot of 'coffee and <insert interest>' events popping up everywhere. I feel like maybe this is a 'coffee and filmmaking' hangout, where you can just talk about whatever is on your mind filmmaking related (or occassionally even otherwise) amongst people with similar interests.

  2. @Juxx989 Hey! So far I think my favourite is Vivid with -1 saturation and -2 contrast, along with 0.98 Green and Blue, sharpness at -10. If I'm in need of more dynamic range I switch to Gamma DR with -5 contrast and +1 saturation. I don't think that 0.95 on green is good as it makes skin too red and also makes whites look red too. I've shot some side by side footage with my Fujifilm X-T2. Will be posting over the weekend

  3. I was tweaking color settings and reading old posts here about how people setup their nx-1s... and realized I still dont fully understand what master black level does... and came across this vid on google... I really never tried this before... I would make changes write down on some paper the settings and shot it like a clap board and import several tests into editor... but I could have been doing it live! Here is another one It sounded like he was saying you can check out a video in editor and if you like the settings you can copy it back to the memory card and automatically force the NX-1 to change the cameras settings to it? Im a little foggy on this one (but I have been up for 30 hours) That is all....

  5. Who would be interested in Optical Flares presets for anamorphic adapters/lenses? I've already made one for the Anamorphot 2x with the range finder, using Tito's video as a reference. Anamorphot 2x.ofp

  7. Quoted from: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?354171-C300-Mark-II-viewfinder-coating-all-screwed-up-u "... I have to say that that is just F'n ridiculous. Even for Canon... That was just poor engineering. That should be an easily(user) replaceable service part that is $50-$75 max." Right. And if Canon engineering puts a coating on a viewfinder I would never expect it to flake off with just one light cleaning. And as I've said: "... wouldn't it be wonderful if Canon would have coated the 'inside' of the EVF screen with their flimsy luminescent blue coating so you wouldn't have to deal with such an asinine design while preforming a standard cleaning practice that you've done a hundred times before on other cameras?" And if you do scratch this poorly designed (failed) part, the nameless corporate drone at Canon will tell you that you should have sent it to them to be cleaned at your expense. Canon earned 20 billion dollars last year and the CPS rep saved the company 20 cents... bless his tiny heart.

  8. Same issue with C300 II: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?354171-C300-Mark-II-viewfinder-coating-all-screwed-up-unusable Looks like the coating is fragile and will come off when force is applied. Again, q-tips are a very bad idea due to force concentration. When wiping the solution with a wipe/optical-microfiber, it's important not to allow any finger to directly apply force- bundle/fold to create a 'spring buffer' between fingers and lens and slide (lens) or twist (viewfinder) without pressing into the lens surface (just enough force to keep in contact). Pancro (made by Panavision for their lenses) and disposable wipes is a good suggestion from that thread.

  9. When I tested the akitio node with the Titan X and the MBP 13" 2016 everything worked fine. It is not strictly plug&play & system files will have to be modified even if automatically. You will need to run a script found here. Since then, I believe AMD cards are supported as well, which should give much better performance with FCPX than NVIDIA (see here), but I haven't tested them. When Apple starts certifying these enclosures, things will be even easier. There was a rumor for this WWDC, but who knows.. Only the 2015 airs have TB2 so I don't know how much bottleneck the TB1 port will be for NLE use. Here is a report with an eGPU & a 2013 Air: https://egpu.io/forums/implementation-guides/mid-2013-13-mba-macbook-air-akitio-thunder2-gtx-950-tb1/#post-3260 Even if I can tell you that it will most probably work, I don't know if it is worth it. If you use it only on as a desktop it might be better to just sell it and build a cheap hackintosh for about the same money as the eGPU enclosure + GPU + whatever you can get for your Air.

  10. I assume you want to stay with FCPX & mac on a laptop. If that is the case, you will have a choice between the 13" and 15" version of the macbook pro. The advantages of the 15" are screen size, quad core CPU and discrete GPU. The advantages of the 13" are is small size . If you don't mind the size of the 15", then definitely get a 15". But in case you want something smaller, even the 13" will be quite a bit faster since you are coming from an old dual core CPU, especially when coupled with an AMD eGPU. The good thing with older macs is that they have thunderbold ports and they can be used with an external GPU to significantly improve the performance of the NLE. See what options you have for a used macbook pros. If you don't want to go the eGPU route, then your best price/performance would be a used 2015 15" with dGPU and 16gb RAM, otherwise get a late 2013 or later since they come with TB2 ports, and 13" or 15" with 16gb RAM . Just keep in mind that the eGPU solution will be at least $300, so take that into account when figuring out the costs.

  11. @Inazuma Hey your the new blood here would love to hear your take on it. What are your fav settings? I would like the most dr possible to work work with.. I'm really not too fond of acquisition the fun for me is post.... The baked in way is not for me. It feels very easy to use offset in resolve and push everything towards black. Also have been studying still frames from movie trailers and James miller shots and many times the whites ain't white they are pushed almost completely into the mids and tinted. Please let me know you solutions.

  12. Wow Juxx, cant believe you'd been doing it without live preview! Must have been a real pain. About Black Master Pedestal.. I have tested it and found it doesn't actually bring out shadow detail at all. It just crushes the darker end of the tonal range into a higher value. So you actually have less to work with!

  13. Upgrade to a newer Mac if you need FCP or build a PC around the new AMD Ryzen CPU if you want to use Premier Pro or Resolve - check this thread out

  15. I mean you can see what right what it does... Raises your blacks/shadows in camera, so you can expose more for highlights and still maintain more shadow detail than you otherwise would with a lower black level. Granted I've never tested the benefit of shooting in camera and just raising shadows a touch in post, but I always shoot with mine between 7 and 15, I think it makes a pretty big difference.

Time to bring out the Salmiakki.

  17. Yes me too...I never finished watching the film..and it's rare that I do that...the direction felt clunky...none of the characters felt convincing....I found the firefight scene with all the cars parked in line at the border crossing ridiculous...although all the actors were first rate...so I think the blame has to fall on him....of course a lot of people liked Sicario...just did not work for me.

  18. I took one of these cheap shoulder/chest mounts on a flight a few weeks ago and when its folded for travel it looks uncannily like the sort of sub machine gun the French military use. Because I had so little space in my bag I had to lay it side down as well so in profile from the top down view of the x ray machine it looked exactly like one! So you can imagine my anxiety putting it through. They pulled the bag but not because of the massive gun shaped object but went off their tits because I'd left a travel size tube of toothpaste in there. I'm always amazed at the inconsistency between airports though about what they want you to take out separately. When I fly out of Spain I have to take absolutely every camera, lens and battery out to go through separately for no apparent reason as I hardly think ThinkTank have started lining their bags with lead so the x ray machine can't penetrate it. Yet flying back anywhere from the UK I have yet to find enough electronics that I can jam in a bag that fazes them. And believe me, I've tried. "Been buying every lithium ion battery that Amazon sell have we sir? No problem. Just make sure there's no toothpaste in there" Makes me think they make it up as they go along.

  19. Well he did write/co-write his early films & this shouldn't be forgotten - he can tell a story & has. Of his American films the pick of the bunch are Enemy & Arrival, but one shouldn't ignore his Canadian films Polytechnique & Incendies, which are excellent. The thing I find troubling with him is that he tends to jump around a lot & this makes for a lot of Hit'n'Miss films - I found Sicario to be very dissappointing & not worthy of all the praise it was getting.

  23. Even the Micro Cinema Camera has 60p in 1080p form, and that was unveiled, what, 2 years ago. I agree with the others, impossible for a 4K Pocket to out in the woodwork, but one can dream ::wink, wink::
