  1. There seem to be two issues here -- our schedule and deleted product reviews. One at a time. B&H's schedule is on our site at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/find/HelpCenter/HoursOfOperation.jsp.There are two week-long events but in general I think the comment, "many weeks per year" is hyperbole. We appreciate some days we're closed do not conform to mainstream US or Christian holidays but they are unavoidable. We take pains to ensure customers are aware of each event well in advance with notices on our site, our Facebook profile, Twitter, our email newsletters etc. You wrote, "I didn't pay attention..." I am sorry you did not but I do not think it is reasonable to hold that against us. YMMV Reviews get vetted by PowerReviews before we get them and are then vetted again by us before they're published. Once they are, anyone can click to flag a review for any reason at all. That immediately takes the review offline until it can be vetted yet again. If you have an issue with one or more particular reviews please email henryp[at]bhphoto.com and I'll be happy to inquire. Once upon a time, 20 years ago this may have been true but today our staff is as diverse as NYC itself. Some employees are Hasidic; some are non-Hasidic orthodox Jews; some are less observant or non-observant Jews. Some are Christians or Muslims or Zoroastrians. At least one is an outspoken atheist. There's no "reserve in NJ." There are communities in NJ and in suburban NY and in Brooklyn where like minded families tend to live near one another for support and convenience. The buses are run by a private company with no relationship to B&H or to our management. Some smart person saw a business opportunity and began a bus service. Anyone who wishes can by a one-day or monthly ticket and ride. I don't but I'm the atheist and I don't live near the bus routes so I use Metro-North. Regarding Christian holidays, we're closed Christmas Day.

  2. I have the 1DX2 since 10 days now. Used to work with A7R/S2 and GH4, the size and weight and the lack of a tilting screen or peaking is a big minus. Even on the photo side Canon did cut features like internal timelapse or the HDR function of the 5D3, which is very uncool for this price. But by adding a magnet viewfinder like in old 5D2 days, the 1DX2 is still a handable and can be used as one man show, with 2 outstanding advantages: 4K 60fps of course and the excellent video autofocus. If you use it right, there is no need for manual focus or focus peaking, and shooting can be done much faster than before and can be even more fun with even sharper shots. Amazingly the video autofocus does work very good with all Canon lenses from the last years, and also selected ones like the Tamron 24-70/2.8 VC or 85/1.8 VC. Without any logical pattern, other Tamron or Sigma lenses don't do video focus at all. A Tamron 16-300 superzoom doesn't work although it has great stabilization paired with the 1DX2, a Sigma 18-300 does have video focus but weak stabilization. Crop lenses don't seem to vignette with the 1.3x 4K video crop of the camera. The photo focus features and 16fps are also very nice for certain shooting situations, although the amount of MP is low when being used to a 5DsR, 645Z or A7R2. To me it is not an outstanding dynamic range monster and the quality difference to pics like from an RX100 IV is not huge enough. What's missing is the whole amount of nice small E-mount lenses and stupidly no Canon crop lenses can be mounted, so a 1DX2 setup will require all the large and heavy Canon full frame lenses. At least they work great and are a pro photo option as well, so the cominations make it an excellen allround camera. Strange is that 4K 25fps video can be recorded on fast CF cards and doesnt require the superexpensive CFAST cards like Canon says. In 4K 60fps mode, the CF cards do stop recording after app. 8 seconds. All in all Canon needs to be quick to release mirrorless versions of their DSLR lineup. At photokina Sony will release the A9 that comes with all relevant DSLR features and of course the best of the A7 world - and if this A9 camera does have 4K 60fps, there is no need for a 1DX2 anymore (and certainly not a 5D4).

  3. Relax.. never said you had a problem with any religious group.. I was just explaining to you why they close and it's a valid reason considering they're background, hence I don't understand why it should even be brought up as an issue (especially since you seem well aware of it). As i suspected it appears you goofed and are blaming them for getting what you consider late shipping.. anyways B&H / online purchasing is certainly not flawless but i feel this rant is a bit unwarranted.. feel free to disagree.. i'm out of this thread

  4. Fun story: one time, a friend of mine was taking a walk and came across a shoot for a Progressive commercial. They ushered him through so they could get back to work, but he managed to catch a glimpse of the DP's name from the slate. It was Emmanuel Lubezki. This was well after Children of Men and Tree of Life, too. While I agree with your main point-- that feature films have to find unique aesthetic characteristics to distinguish them from lower-end productions-- I cannot abide the implication that accepting commercial work precludes someone from being a true artist. In my eyes, any true artist would do whatever work they had to if it meant taking another step toward realizing their next project.

  5. To the OP, you could have canceled your B&H order and just bought from Amazon instead of waiting. If there's an upcoming closure, the website clearly states that with a pop up telling you exactly when it closes and reopens. This message is repeated when placing orders as well. If there's any doubt as to whether it will ship, you can call beforehand and confirm. I bounce back and forth depending on the item. I can save on sales tax going with B&H, so most big ticket items that I can't get through Texas Media Systems (if you're in the U.S., highly recommended, I get all my preorders in the first wave through them) I go B&H.

  6. My list would be shorter. I'd be like... try: 1. selling your A6300 There's just no way I'm going to put up with a camera that gives me such hassle, even if it shits rainbows. I'd rather use a G7 and just deal with it. Respect if you go above and beyond to make it work for you with fans 'n schtuff though.

  8. I have been using Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SSDs in Inateck USB 3.0 enclosures (the enclosures seem to affect performance of the drives) for editing on a MacBook Pro w/ 16gb RAM. It is the only thing I have found that can keep up with 4k/hold up in real time editing (though I do often use 1/4 or 1/2 resolution in Premiere to keep things snappy). The EVO series drives seemed not able to hold up in my experience. Has anyone else found something that works well which is also portable? Has anyone tried the Samsung 950 PRO Series?

  9. Just saw this video from Dugdale and thought the conclusions were interesting: https://youtu.be/rz_ZjdwtUQ8 I'm in the market for a new camera atm but is the FS5 really worth almost double the price of A7 Sii/Rii considering these findings?

  10. Gh4 for the price is hard to beat. I loved using it on a doc recently in Nicaragua.

  11. Regarding why it makes sense to do business or not do business with a company, I/my company has been doing biz with B&H since we started over 20 years ago. I'm as agnostic regarding businesses as I am regarding a higher power. That said, while I/we certainly do a good deal of business with other companies for various reasons - I've done far more with B&H than with any other entity for our film and audio post studios as well as film and audio prodution. It would be fair to say I've spent a reasonable house mortgage with them over these years. I've never been treated with anything but respect and never experienced anything but great service. I've never had a single issue with their policies, products or staff. They're probably the best stocked and informed company in the world, all things considered. I say this as a pretty dogmatic non-dogmatic person, who believes that the world is a better place when we respect each others differences (as long as they do no harm) and as someone who regularly needs an item for a deadline a day or so before it arrives. I've learned to work with B&H's occasionally "unorthodox" (I know) schedule because of the quality of the business relationship we've had over the years. It's hard, in any field, to say you've never had a bad experience with someone or some business when operating at demanding levels over many instances. I can say that about B&H.

I used that recently on a RED Dragon shoot! Gorgeous lens. It was our go to for dolly, establishing, and handheld shots.

  13. I tried it today. The 1080p is ok, nothing that amazing. Seems similar to the D7200. The 4K seems good, nice codec and high bitrate, records to SD, very sharp but shame about the crop. Can upload some original files if you like?

  14. In their announcement regarding the amicable 2007 settlement, the EEOC said: “We commend B & H for working cooperatively with us to resolve this matter without protracted litigation,” said EEOC New York Trial Attorney Lou Graziano. “We encourage other employers to follow B & H’s example of resolving discrimination cases expeditiously and in good faith.” Regarding the suit by women alleging discrimination, see http://law.justia.com/cases/new-york/other-courts/2011/2011-ny-slip-op-33861-u.html wherein it says the plaintiff's "failure-to-promote claims are devoid of factual support." That case was then dismissed. The CNN article says workers were "relegated to "separate, unsanitary and often inoperable restrooms." The allegations being made are unproven and untrue. There are not and have never been separate restrooms. The restrooms are as clean as those in my house. There are no "substandard conditions." Every person I know older than 14 has a cellphone with a camera. If there were separate unsanitary restrooms we’d have seen photos of them in various social media. There has not been one. Non-employees who have visited our warehouses reported seeing clean, safe, well-lit working conditions and restrooms as sanitary as those set aside for customers in our retail store.

  16. I think you have slow card. I have pushed bitrate from 180Mbps (no issues) to 250Mbit and get only 25 fps (it should be 30p) - recording time is more than 2 minutes without any slow card message (no sound) 320Mbit - works too but record. time around 20 seconds with only 22fps (no sound) 320Mbit - x5 timelapse works fine, full 29.97fps, no issues (thank you Kino Seed for suggestion! :-)) Lexar 64GB 2000x UHS-II, original Vasile's bitrate hack So my opinion is that if you have dropped frames it means that card is not fast enough

  17. Dave's a nice guy and yes, he qualifies that he's only talking about noise, but that doesn't change the fact it's a nonsense test. The FS5 vs A7SII side by side under the bridge was the funniest. He was saying the A7 looked better, but his face in the A7 shot looked like a purple version of the Elephant Man. Also he completely failed to acknowledge that, for a professional camera like the FS5, noisy shadows (again vs the A7SII) that hold detail are far more desirable than clean shadows turned to mush by a weak codec and/or noise reduction. Noise can be cleaned up in post while retaining detail. If the NR is in-camera it's a lost cause. It's a bit like saying "This is a test to see who is the fastest runner, but I'm only going to base it on how fast the athlete's arms move"

  18. I have bought many things from B&H and have been happy with their service to date. Having said that I could see how this closure could be irritating. @OliKMIA, Was the closure incorporated in the calculated shipping date? If it was then their is nothing really to complain about. If it wasn't then their is your fix for any future complaints @henryp. Another possible solution is for B&H to just open a mega store in Vancouver for me... I mean everyone to shop at . that would definitely solve all problems for everyone ever. I am definitely making this suggestion for everyones benefit and not just for me. lol

  20. I was at Alex Buono's Art Of Storytelling tour and B&H was a sponsor. The guy from B&H stood up and said "HI, my name is Christian, and I'm the ONLY one at B&H." Got a good laugh.

  21. Haven't heard much about the final result I think. But here is an interesting comparison between the new Leica SL and a Sony a7s: (skip to 9:20 for the actual comparison footage)

  22. I would encourage the beginner with less to spend on a body to go with the excellent Panasonic G7 ($400 used) and spend the savings on better glass, lights, a nice tripod, etc. To me, A6300 is typical Sony: great DR, noise, and resolution, but not much else.

  23. Was there any previous case where they actually added something after they had finalized and presented the camera? I can see In Stock here as well: http://www.ukdigital.co.uk/panasonic-lumix-gx80-body-black.html . According local Cyberport they are expected here on the mainland for tomorrow. Another CEU store claims delivery in 1-2 days, meaning it's probably In Stock with the distributor. Seems Austrian prices for the kit undercut some of the German market ones (like Amazon and Saturn) by 100 EUR. Same happened with the LX100 during the launch period and then rose back up again, might want to be in for one after all. I'm so weak, lol, it's just that I have so many non-IS lenses you know, that it's kinda tempty to already jump on it and not wait out for the GH5, which perhaps will be shipping around Christmas or something (seems so lightyears away right now). I'd kinda rather be outside shooting away with that little thing in summer.

  24. A mostly photo-centric review, but there's a few handheld clips with her waving the camera around to show IBIS starting at about 3:30. Rolling shutter looks really good.

  25. I spoke to Clifton Cameras today and they happened to have a body-only in stock which I should get tomorrow. I also read on DPreview that someone is having one shipped directly from Panasonic UK as their wife works there, so they are trickling in... I guess there goes the rumour about them adding a mic input

  26. I have a feature request: Can you somehow disable that error message about high volumes may damage your hearing? When I have a headphone plugged in it shows up every time I hit a button (i.e. switch from manual to autofocus). It's driving me bonkers...!

  27. I appreciate the test. But it is somewhat exhibiting the lowest common denominator. They would all seem close if that's what you're aiming to do. What would be neat is another test of the three cameras showing their strengths in challenging conditions. High contrast scene testing max dynamic range, low-light testing noise, a moving subject to test autofocus, etc. But, appreciate the test nonetheless.

  28. They don't... The Canon is in a whole other class. Even in low-light where most cameras will struggle, the 1DX Mkii finds focus. It really is... and I mean this... a game changer.

  30. Its just funny that you failed at it after the countless posts about how superior 4K is on any screen, how you always can tell, etc. That's all, no problem, just a good laugh.

  31. I usually go back and forth between the two... Where I live B&H standard delivery to me is next day so that is always a plus for me. I also have Amazon Prime. But that is 2 days usually for me. I learned a long time ago to always check the B&H schedule.. I cant comment on the comments because i have never commented on either site.

  32. They match well under these conditions! The left-hand camera has rendered the reds in the lipstick with more blue so I'd guess Sony, but it's evidently not so hard to match them when they're not being used at extremes, that's good news.

  33. Jcs that's a good point. Those 3 pictures looks almost the same... There are differences of course, like colors, and resolution but hey, this proves there's no need to fight when speaking about cameras. My preferred goes to the one on the center. If it is the A7SII i'm glad i chose that camera. And if it is not the A7SII, i'm happy too because everyone here can't tell which is which while being 100% affirmative...
    1 point
  34. oh cool i missed this. so is this correct jcs? clearly the sony is on the left lol. look at that magenta lipstick! still, in spite of that skin tones are v reasonable

  35. they definitely can. good work, thanks for sharing this so which canon is which? id be interested in knowing which take on the lipstick color/reds/oranges is most accurate

  36. Well, but that's with a freaking fan on the body.

  37. if we look at the skin color first and second camera is the same brand. So i guess 1dxmii, c300mii, a7sii. if we look at the contrast so a7sii, c300mii, 1dxmii. Really interesting test.

  39. I spoke about Live Cropping before, and how this is a great way of doing away with almost every kind of dolly shot (Depending upon whether it is 4k, or 5k, or 6k, and whether the final delivery is in HD or 720p). If the GH5 gets 5k, this could improve even further. Also, a lot of his shots are handheld (with Dual Stabilization of the lens and camera), and the Live Cropping still looks stellar.

  40. We tested NR all around and there is no evidence than NR on or off did any difference to footage in NX1 On nx500 with mod-pack there is the 2.5K enable option without NR whatsoever, well it's noisy allright )) Also here is the LUT for my 200mbps test footage if anyone interested, I did it myself, so, use it freely
