*** RESOLVED! *** A few guys over on facebook suggested using a hair dryer. And it seemingly did the trick! That, WD40 and a shit load of hard taps to the focus barrel ? Here's the process I used: Apply WD40 into the grooves of the focus barrel. Wipe off the excess liquid and leave for 24hrs. Use hair dryer on low setting, high heat over focus barrel and inside grooves. Tap hard around focus barrel with palm. Try to twist barrel and tap some more. repeat step 2 (if needed). repeat step 3 (if needed). Hopefully this might be of help to others too. Next Step: Clean, re-grease, re-build and at some point -- TEST. Best, -- B2 points

The angry fella does, to be fair, have good insights regarding Nikon lenses. And magnets. I always make a point of tuning to his fuming reactions after the married couple make one of their educational statement videos. In my imagination, they are the yuppy couple who've moved in next door to him and he's got a backyard full washing machines and Triumph moterbikes in various states of disassembly and in theirs they've got a hot tub and a mid life crisis Harley Davidson. They think he plays AC/DC as an act of aggression and he thinks they have their teeth whitened in an act of passive aggression.2 points

To set up clear zoom, (hoping the menu is similar to the old A7s), Find the "zoom setting" tab, choices are optical zoom only, clearimage zoom and digital zoom. I set it to clearimage zoom. From there in the "custom key settings" tab, I set the down button to zoom. (and left/right buttons to use the zoom). That way, with whatever lens I am using zoom or prime, AF or MF, I can use it variably. Clear zoom goes to 2x but if you do set it to digital zoom you get the same sort of thing and it goes to 4x but over 2x it does start getting noticeable. It isn't perfect but if you start with a very good lens, it can actually still be better than a lesser lens used optically. Doesn't work for RAW but works for Jpeg and video. Some people are using it effectively with remotes (something I am really want to try some time soon). Good luck with whatever you end up with.1 point

@Charlie Nice work!! It's always nice to see a finished project come together and this one sure did, style and then some. I said in my post some time ago you were either a genius, or you were crazy, and I think it's somewhere in between, considering that it's pretty out there, but it still ticks the boxes for a wedding video in showing the right moments, showing the right people, and having a celebratory vibe that matches the couple but will still be ok for grandma. Everyone has an opinion, but there are only a few that matter, firstly the clients and if they were happy with it, and secondly if you were happy with it. If you were happy (with allowances for you taking notes on improvements for next time - none of us ever thinks a project was perfect!) then that is what will get you over the line with the next couple when they call and you start talking about what you could do for them. Absolutely. Walk tall, offer a reliable service where you deliver on what you promise and the world is your oyster. My wedding wasn't a traditional one and whenever anyone asks about it they always say things like "I wish I could have done that" or "wow, I'm not that brave" etc, so there is a latent desire in a surprising number of people to do something that's a bit more about them and a bit less like how things have been done for hundreds of years. Plenty of people get married and the Hallmark cinematographers will get the bulk, but live the dream and do it your way! ????1 point

Tips for achieving this style if cinematography
Charlie reacted to Gregormannschaft for a topic
Incredible. I heard the A73 is much closer, but that is really impressive. One thing I will say with the movement is make sure it's motivated. At times it can look like you're moving for movement's sake. I think in these high end fashion videos of the same style, the movement tends to follow a 'logical' path the human eye would take. I checked the original video and the movement tends to go like this: eyes > feet, feet > eyes, swinging bag > eyes etc etc And if you watch again, there is a lot of movement, but a lot of shots are focused on the eyes with some swaying here and there. There's a shot where she's running through a pool, the camera focuses on her smile, and then moves down to view her feet going through the water. It feels like a natural and logical movement. That's probably a lot of words on pretty much the same point, but I think it's an interesting topic. Movement is so rarely discussed and is a huge part of cinematography.1 point -

It's not been cut. I removed the distance marker ring to access the screws ? I'll keep that in mind! All removed. The focus barrel was ceased. I say "was" as it's now been resolved! Just about to post an update ?1 point

On Lanier's site his catchphrase seems to be "you only have one chance to get it right". Obviously never shot raw with the D750.1 point

I like my 28-70 FE kit lens and it is a lot better than some people think and if the trip calls for small(ish) and light should work. I would see if you can try the new Tamron 2.8 first though for those extra stops at the long end (and around half a stop at 28mm).1 point

Ah, now i see the problem! Did you remove the front look ring first? 3 little screws beside is writted "kowa prominar made in japan" It'll allow you to rotate the focus barrel in the desired direction. The focus distance ring is only cosmetic part (with some usefull info), but you dont need it really. Look for a little little tiny screw on it that lossen to reset the focus mark. If you can remove it, you can look for further problem and probably you can turn your focus barrel with some liquid grease/lube.1 point

Fair enough, 1080 60p isn't a deal breaker for everyone though, so I thought I'd at least float the idea as worth re-considering.1 point

Once I read the Average temperature of 106.8 °F (41.6 °C) in July forget that LoL. Oh, but it is a dry heat. So is the Shara Desert! Average January temperatures are a maximum of 69.0 °F (20.6 °C) and a minimum of 43.4 °F (6.3 °C). Average July temperatures are a maximum of 106.8 °F (41.6 °C) and a minimum of 74.9 °F (23.8 °C). There are an average of 172.6 days with highs of 90 °F (32 °C) or higher and an average of only 2.6 days with lows of 32 °F (0 °C) or lower. The record high temperature was 122 °F (50 °C) on June 25, 1990. The record low temperature was 20 °F (−7 °C) on January 5, 1971. Average annual precipitation is 6.13 inches (156 mm) and there are an average of 24 days with measurable precipitation. The wettest year was 1983 with 18.73 inches (476 mm) and the driest year was 1953 with 1.35 inches (34 mm). The most rainfall in one month was 8.78 inches (223 mm) in January 1993. The most rainfall in 24 hours was 2.46 inches (62 mm) on March 2, 1983. Although snow rarely falls in the lowlands, 6.5 inches fell in December 1967.[13]1 point -

Actually RED initially were claiming 20 stops when they were first releasing images. Anyone else remember this ? www.thephoblographer.com/2013/01/01/reds-dragon-sensor-lives-up-to-hype-of-20-stops-of-dynamic-range/amp/ and sure you can count 20 stops in that image. But we all know they don’t really have 20 stops. So anytime someone makes a claim about stops (including Blackmagic) I always judge by actually shooting something, preferably alongside another known like an Alexa. JB1 point -

Interesting... I recall when I reported that 2018 is supposed to be the year that anamorphics get affordable and many jumped all over my $h!t... guess the folks I spoke to knew something after all.1 point

In what way are they the ultimate? The resolution used to be the thing that differentiated them, but now the resolutions are matched in FF by A7R / 5DS etc. I guess you're still talking DR? If we're going for ultimate then why not a Large Format sensor? This guy showed that the physical size is manageable.. If you wrapped the guts of a cinema camera around that it would barely increase the size at all!1 point

Should we start a petition for Canon to make a consumer Medium-Format video-centric ILC? Some would argue that if we're going to dream then we should dream BIG!1 point

Those 18 stop RED claims are ridiculous. Download the R3D's of the xyla chart and try them out for yourself in davinci resolve. It's VERY hard to produce the dynamic range numbers they are claiming. Those xyla chart images are misleading as they use frame averaging of multiple frames to remove noise and they use multiple ISO settings within the R3D and composite the results together. That's not how you use a xyla chart. The sensor in that video that's 18 stops is the Dragon 8K VV sensor which was never released. Now it's the monstro sensor which supposedly is a little better. In order to reveal the dynamic range numbers phil is getting, I have to set the ISO to the highest settings and crank it up further just to dig into the shadows. Even then I still can't get as much information as he is clearly getting so I have no idea what he's doing. If the camera captures 18 stops of DR, it's very hard to reveal it all and impossible to use. For a long time people on there was a long thread where asked one simple question: If Red Dragon and Alexa captured xyla images and were processed in exactly the same method would the Alexa show the same or better dynamic range than the dragon? Everyone was dancing around the answer when the main tester who was comparing both cameras eventually broke down and said that he believed the Alexa would show more dynamic range. Likewise, there are tons of tests showing that without digging up lots of noise, the Alexa still does have more usable DR than helium and dragon cameras. There's even old RED images showing alexa and RED MX xyla chart images side by side with a minimal DR difference. But we all know that isn't remotely true.1 point -

Your lens barrel has been cut out the distance marking part, obviously. Mine's price? I think it worth around $200 nowadays. Its front lens was too bad when I bought, not usable. So I took out rear lens for use with other front lens.1 point

Choose the brightest and the most beloved/precious prime lens you have from 21 to 35mm FF equivalent. Why? Because it will be your best and intimate creative friend during the trip... and friend in the most intimate and contemplative hours could be just one... There is some magical-personal feeling to be alone with one prime wandering during day and night, that doesn't provide zoom's working easiness and convenience. You may and will miss some shots, but you'll put more of your soul in them... and that is the most important: not to hunt for shots, but to look for your deepest expression.1 point

Now available - EOSHD Pro Color V4 HDR for Sony A7 III and A7R III
Saptak reacted to PF Productions for a topic
I used ProColor V4 on the SONY A7III. A few shots were in ProLog 3 (opening four shots in the car) but from :20 on its all the new profile. Works well for perfect out of camera color. This was shot in a very extreme environment of deep forest shadows and bright harsh sunlight. It has great skin tones though even in those spots. Be sure to protect your highlights at all times! The thumbnail shot (at :54) had bright sun on that back rock wall, I exposed for that, then brought up the shadows a bit in post in that one shot. It was contrasty to the extreme!1 point -
Since I am that guy who got hired to fly drone so a P4A is more logical to me (some fly me across the country to fly drone), at least P4A look less toy like than Mavic Pro which I sold (or Air/Spark which definitely look like toy). My previous drone is Inspire 1 with X5 which is a real hassle to carry to remote location. And Mavic Pro II is rumored to be more heavier/bigger than Mavic Pro that will make mobility even less, may be Mavic Pro III will finally have 1" sensor in a more reasonable size/weight?1 point
