My cameras and kit

1. i shot this last night. used the smc takumar m42 55mm/1.8 with a sankor compact anamorphic. all shot at pretty high iso's, mostly 12800, but some shots were at lower. there's 2k mjpeg, 1080p/24fps and 720p/60fps (@24 fps) all in there, i used driftwood's sedna b matrix/patch, because i grabbed my bag on the way to the pier; i would've preferred to use the canis majoris night patch and 2fps mjpeg, but oh well. no color correction/grading   https://vimeo.com/57121092
2. ###SOLD### to a member of EOSHD community ;)         UPDATE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I'm about to put again for sale my baby Berthiot Hypergonar on Ebay tomorrow, but before I'm proposing it here, so you can have at this price, without bid on it :   700€ for the baby Berthiot Hypergonard, the one I'm using for all the movies you can see below   1100€ for the all anamorphic set I'm talking about below   Please PM, don't mis this opportunity !!!!!!!   Tomorrow it will be too late !   Shipping cost with insurance : 20€   Seb Farges         For sale anamorphic set baby Berthiot Hypergonar 1.75X + Voigtlander Classic 40mm f1.4   http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110998900533#ht_1370wt_1341   This is a huge opportunity to have the legendary baby Hypergonar, a very rare tiny anamorphic lens, only 52 grams (!!!), who gives beautiful cinemascope images with the Voigtlander. You are ready to shoot in stunning cinemascope image on your micro 4/3 camera !!!!   The set is composed of :   1- baby  Berthiot Hypergonar 1.75X anamorphic lens 2- Voigtlander Classic 40mm F1.4 pancake lens in M mount   3- M mount to Micro 4/3 adapter 4- F clamp 52mm thread + 2 spacers with 52mm thread + replacing additional spacer for using the Hypergonar on other lens than the Voigtlander, with 52mm thread 5- step up ring 43mm-52mm (to go from Voigtlander to the clamp) 6- 39mm neutral filter (screwed on a 39mm filter without glass scotch taped on the Hypergonar)   7- step up ring 39mm-52mm 8- L.C.W ND variable filter 52mm 9- Diopter 52mm filter Nikon +0.7   As you can see in this set, you are ready to shoot, the variable ND filter allowed you to shoot at 1/50 in video, with the diopter you can focus around 70 cm (2,3 feet) and without, it depends of the aperture you will choose, but let say between 1 meter (3.2 feet) and 3 meters (9.8 feet) to infinity. There is also an additional spacer (that replace the two two other spacers) then you can use the anamorphic on other lens with 52mm thread. The Hypergonar works from (some of) 35mm lenses, then up, without vignetting. No vignetting with the Voigtlander 40mm, very slight vignetting at closed aperture (f11, f16).   All my films are in this album : https://vimeo.com/album/1834786   examples in the album below :   on the Voigtlander 40mm f1.4: https://vimeo.com/42652326 https://vimeo.com/43152755   on the Fujian : https://vimeo.com/31015180 https://vimeo.com/29881958   on the SLR Cine 0.95 : https://vimeo.com/41526220   on the Canon FD : https://vimeo.com/39510554   and here is two exclusive movies :    password : lac https://vimeo.com/50931963   password : 501 https://vimeo.com/49723682   The Voigtlander is a very good 40mm pancake lens, it's like new. With the 43mm-52mm step up ring included, you can use it alone with 52mm filters.   The Hypergonar begin to be sharp from f2.8, very good at f4 and perfect at f5.6. With the diopter you can shoot at f1.4 with sharp result. It's in good condition due to its age. Very tiny dust, no haze. I'm filming with the baby Hypergonar for month now, and I can tell you this is such a good lens. You can watch all the test I've done with it in the link bellow. As you can see I've tried it on several lenses (Fujian 35mm f1.6, Canon FD 50mm f1.8, Holga Lomo f8, SLR Magic Cine lens 50mm f0.95 and Voigtlander 40mm f1.4) and the combination with the Voigtlander is the ultimate set for me. 1.75X squeeze is also perfect, wider than the common 1.5X, and not to much wider than the 2X anamorphic lens. I apply 57,14% scale in Adobe Premiere.   The baby Hypergonar gives very beautiful anamorphic flares and stretched bokeh.   A useful comment from Alan about this Berthiot 1.75X anamorphic lens : "you have the smallest hypergonar lens ever made and one of the last designs of the great french man. Professor Henri Chrétien signed over the rights to his fantastical optical invention Hypergonar to Twentieth Century-Fox in 1952,he was legally bound not to develop commercial scope lens or work with any other studios. or sell the optics commercially. This beauty was the only tiny amateur cinemascope lens he could legally make and could only be sold in france and her colonies  it was made for amateur standard 8mm film cameras. his friends at the Société technique d'Optique et de Photographie (s.t.o.p). At first said it was impossible to scale a cinemascope lens down to this size, and make a usable system. Chrétien went too work and made this tiny gem a beauty. A work of genius. In the late 70s early 80s a supply of spare lens where found and and added too fuji single 8 plastic pocket size film cameras many of these lens would have been thrown in the dustbin in the late 1980s with the standard 8 and single 8 cameras, with the rise rise of video : ( so are now quite rare. i am glad the lens has gone home too france : )" "Me too ! :)"   You won't regret that perfect anamorphic lens for your micro 4/3 camera (Panasonic GH1, GH2, GH3, Olympus….). It worth any penny !!!!

4. Hi everyone    I´m a young video director from Madrid-spain, (www.MauriDGaliano.com)   I want to share with this great community my passion for  vintage Anamorphic Lenses.   I´ve been reading this forum a lot of times, but is the first time that i write something.   Allow me the honor to share my last Anamorphic video, a Drum cover for the Artist "Deivhook",the best Drummer in Spain.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13zPG1ebHlo     I shoot this video with my basic set: Panasonic GH2 Flowmotion v2.2 + fd50mm 1.8 + Bolex Anamorphot 16/32 1.5x.   The Bolex is the little girl of all my lenses...the "jewel of the crown",   The  rare 1.5x ratio suits perfect for almost everything, and its super-easy to make the double focus with it, in this video theres no flares, but this lens have the best flares  i´ve seen. Flare sooo easy, blue-deeply flares like Panavision C series. Mindblowing.   Now i have a clamp, from VidAtlantic, but im interested in upgrade to Redstan, i´ve seen that redstan have a custom Clamp for the little brother of my lens, the 8/19 1.5x, And im asking myself if he has one custom clamp for my lens.   Someone can give me the contact of Redstan?   I hope that you enjoy the video!   If someone have a question about the lens, ask me!   PD: I already knows that i suck writing in english, sorry!
5. On top of my low light high ISO tests I also tested my Sankor Anamorphic 2x lens.  One thing I really learned is that anamorphics need to be focused at a specific distance to get the desired effect.  Of course I only realize this after I do this, so I'll try and do another test later.  Focus is very difficult, next time I'll bring an external monitor.  The 100mm Macro surprisingly was the most difficult to focus.  I think it has a much shallower depth of field than either of the FD 1.2L lenses.   http://youtu.be/U5Oh-IBFZyY   http://youtu.be/eL0HesvFrPc   http://youtu.be/zEk-7OEkVAU   http://youtu.be/ZaRwD_L0n-g   Out of all these tests it's clear that there are limitations with both cameras.  Here are some notes:   - EX TELE mode is much improved on the GH3.  There is more detail and less noise, although it is still very noisy.  Not sure I can call it "grain" but if you really need to use it you can.  But I would still go with a prime over EX TELE mode, even if it is a great lens like the Leica 25mm.  GH2 clearly is bad in EX TELE mode, worse in very low light - Detail is excellent for both cameras.  I still think the GH2 has more but only by a little.  Again focusing is critical. - GH3 clearly has more dynamic range and retains more details especially in the shadows.  The last video you can see more tiles in the shadows at the left of the image. - GH3 can shoot more flat and retain more color detail too.  The last video I upped the saturation to 150% to match the GH2.  You can't go far at all with the GH2, it is so baked into the codec. - GH3 is 2/3 of a stop brighter at high ISOs.  However the codec isn't great for low light.  I think the 50Mbits IPB is better than the 72Mbits All-I for low light.  Just the noise grain is better and easier to remove.  In bright conditions they are about the same.   I prefer the GH3 over the GH2 for usability and for the image.  I'll still use my GH2s because they are still very stellar cameras.  But I think there are many improvements in the GH3 that overall make it a better camera.
6. Hi,   i've a general question. Is there any use of filming in MJPEG mode if i use an anamorphic adapter such as the century optix 1.33x?   Also, i tryed to switch my camera (after hacking it) to VGA Mode but i just could not find the MJPEG 1920x720/30p - what am i doing wrong here? Might the patch didnt work or is it just, thats not the VGA Mode and im trying the wrong video mode - which one is the right one?   Thanks for your help Emin
7. Just did some lens tests with the GH3 vs GH2 w/ Flow Motion v2.02 hack.  Information below:   GH2 vs GH3 Night Lens Test Panasonic GH2 w/ Flow Motion v2.02 Hack, Vivid -2,-2,-2,-2 Panasonic GH3, Vivid -3,-5,-4,-5 Lenses used: Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm F1.4 Canon FD 50mm F1.2L Canon FD 85mm F1.2L Canon EF 100mm Macro F2.8 Perspective is different even though I used them on the same tripod.  GH2 is 1.86x sensor crop, GH3 is 2x sensor crop.   In very dark situations the GH3 is noticeably brighter, about 2/3 of a stop.  I tried to compensate by making the GH2 1 stop ISO brighter.  But by doing so makes the GH2 have more noise and have "milky" blacks.  Color correction is very difficult with the GH2 even with the hack.  The GH3 does much better in this regard, although detail might be a little lower.   http://youtu.be/KM_6ZKCFuPs   http://youtu.be/6pwNZxfa1uM   http://youtu.be/_UK0Ck7jQbM
8. Hello all.     I was curious if anyone has tested the Bolex 8/19/1.5X Anamorphot with a Canon 5D mark III.  Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've only found evidence of the lens paired with the GH2, 7D and BMCC.  Many thanks in advance for any help on this topic.
9. Finally put my GH3 through it's paces and I got my anamorphics too.  I shot the local teen group EMKE Hawaii live at Hard Rock Cafe Honolulu's 25th Anniversary celebration.  But to shoot all anamorphic, well you can call me crazy I guess.  Shooting dual focus is no joke, and I really had to change my thinking in terms of zooming and framing.  The videos below are from the middle of the set when I finally got a hang of it.  Well sort of, some shots are still soft.  I can say that I'm happy with the performance of the Sankor and Eiki 16D (pretty much the same lens).  Both are sharp if focused correctly.  The LA7200 I could never get good results past 50mm, so I just use it wide angle, in this case 17mm.  Overall the GH3 works very well, and I think I have a good combination here.   Wide Angle Shot - Panasonic GH2 w/ Flow Motion v2.02 hack, Panasonic 14-42mm kit lens @ 17mm, Panasonic LA7200 Anamorphic lens, ISO 1250, F4.5, 1/80sec, Vivid (-2,-2,-2,-2)   Medium Shot - Panasonic GH2 w/ Flow Motion v2.02 hack, Canon FD 50mm F1.2L, Eiki 16D Anamorphic lens, ISO 1250, F4.5, 1/80sec, Vivid (-2,-2,-2,-2)   Medium/Close-up Shot - Panasonic GH3, 24P 72mbit MOV, Panasonic 45-200mm lens, Sankor 16D Anamorphic lens, ISO 1250, F4.5-5.6 (zoomed), 1/80sec, Vivid (-3,-5,-4,-5)   http://youtu.be/N2RsGEoWtkM   Edit: Sorry forgot to add that the LA7200 is 1.33x, the Sankor/Eiki are 2x anamorphics.  So I cropped the Sankor/Eiki to fit into a 2.35:1 space.  Sorry no super-wide look, I needed it to match the LA7200.
10. Ok, Question #1: So I really wanna get out and shoot. Are there any editing tips for Final Cut Pro that can give a nice anamorphic look to a 16:9 frame? Im shooting with 30mm f/1.4 Sigma on 600D Canon. Question #2: I will eventally buy somthing. And I'm a broke student. The Helios 44m 2/58 lens and a cheap anamorphic lens sounds perfect. Any suggestions on the cheapest Anamorphic lens that can fit the Helios? THANK YOU FOR YOUR INPUT !   Peace

12. https://vimeo.com/55892502   I posted this over in the screening room, but I wanted to show all the anamorphic guys and gals as well.    Lots of fun and really easy to make this one:)   Trey
13. Hello,   I've spent weeks researching, and I've decided to turn to some aficionados.   First up, Camera: I've found that the GH2 is the best price/performance camera. Is this still true today, or are there better ones, such as the Olympus E-M5? Or, would it be best to wait -- do you think there will be anything extraordinary worth waiting for in the first few months of 2013?   Lastly, Lens: I've seen some people use old TV SD 2/3" Lenses, like B4 and C-Mount, etc. Are these worth it? I've heard that (for the most part), the IQ isn't very good, and there's a large amount of work (modifications) to get them to work.   Should I instead be looking at native lenses, like the Leica 25mm? Lots of people talk about anamorphic lenses, and the Voigtlander f/0.95. It seems like almost everyone raves about the Voigtlander, and while it seems expensive, is it truly worth it (price/performance) over say the Panny 20mm or even the Leica 25mm?   Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope this topic helps others as well! -Josh
14. https://vimeo.com/55892502   My city has been very foggy lately, so I've been happy to take my 2x Kowa anamorphic off the shelf.    Thanks for introducing me to this lens, Andrew.   And thanks to Nick Driftwood for all the cool hacks he puts out.   Trey
15. I have started doing documentary work in China, which requires a small form factor. This is why I am reluctantly parting with my rather nice anamorphic set.    The total price for all components together is £1300, excluding shipping. While the price is negotiable please note that I am only selling the whole set, not the individual components.    Panasonic AG-LA 7200 (£700); in mint condition. For serious buyers I am happy to provide a link to two password protected anamorphic videos which I shot with this set on the GH2 in May 2012.   I have attached the Cinetactics Matteblox Anamorphic (£150) onto the AG-LA 7200, it is rock solid and includes the lens shade, carrying case and carabiner.   I have used velcro to fit a Panasonic 138mm filter retainer (£50) into the Cinetactics Matteblox. Those familiar with diopter size issues will know that this amazing size is unique and very hard to come by.    It is fairly easy to fit one of the three Tiffen 138mm +0,5, +1, +2 diopters (£400 for all three) into the Panasonic 138mm filter retainer.   If I do not find a buyer by the end of December 2012 the whole set will go on offer on ebay in January 2013.    Contact: a_fulda@yahoo.com
16. Hey!   I’m selling my beloved ISCO-Göttingen - Iscorama 36 (1.5x).   Here are some shots taken with this exact lens:   https://vimeo.com/55304524   - comes with the original box (shabby condition) - Lens optics are clear with no scratches or fungus - Focusing is firm and smooth in operation - comes with 3 close-up diopters: +1,+2,+4     give me an offer!   jonaslodahl@hotmail.com
17. Or so it would seem. I just ordered a set of these for my Iscos: http://www.xumeadapters.com/   It should make swapping and combining diopters a snap.   I will let you know my thoughts when I receive them.
18. I have been dismissing this issue as a symptom of my aging home computer and its occasional inability to play 1080P files smoothly (a replacement is on the way), but now I am starting to think otherwise. Judder (also called "studder" or "stutter") seems to be a known issue with the GH2 (http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/526/gh2-stutterjudderstrobe-issues-discussion), perhaps moreso than other cameras that shoot 24 frames, and it looks like shooting in anamorphic magnifies the problem. Here's an example of what I am talking about, shot with a GH2 and Iscomorphot 8 2x:    http://youtu.be/2FBUue1-6Lk   If you aren't sure what you are looking for, watch the edge of the monitor and note the smoothness of movement (or lack of it) as I pan the camera.   Does anyone have a solution in post?
19. Hi, All! This is just some of my "practice footage" from late night (early morning) walks around NYC with my trusty GH2, 37mm Mir, Kowa, Redstan clamps and Tokina 0.4 diopter. Hope you like it. http://vimeo.com/55186577
20. In the Tim Burton tradition, here's some Halloween fun at Christmas time...   http://vimeo.com/55190441   Stuff used:  GH2 + Century Optics + Nikkor 24mm F2 + FilmConvert
21. Hello all,   Like to say hello as I am a new member here.   My first post is explained in the title. I have seen some suggestions that shooting 4:3 is best for 2.66:1 with a 2x Ana, because it does not waste pixels, compared with shooting 16:9 which 'wastes' a third of the horizontal for 2.35:1     I am puzzled by this since 1080p 4:3 format would be 1440 horizontal pixels, which is 480 less than 1920.   Seems like no matter which way, expect some losses.
22. Many people find that a 2x (3.55:1) aspect ratio is just too narrow for their liking. The good news is that if you are using a 2x lens and you have a DP4 monitor, you can compose and shoot in 1.5x. This allows us to enjoy all the benefits of 2x glass (greater availability, lower prices, more dramatically stretched bokeh) with none of the headache. Here's how to do it:

Choose a Preset number so that you don't have to make these adjustments every time (just scroll back to the Preset).
Under the Advanced Menu, go to Scale and select 2.35:1.
Go to Custom Scale and input the following values:

HSTART: 706

HSIZE: 94

VSTART: 500

VSIZE: 600
Now you are set to monitor in 1.5x. I have created an Apple Compressor setting that I just drag-and-drop onto incoming footage that squeezes AND crops the footage to 1.5x before I even begin my edit. It helps keep my render time down and I don't even have to deal with the trimmed footage area if I don't want to. These values may also work on the DP6, but I haven't tried it.
23. Hey all, Finally scored a Bolex 8/19/1.5 anamorphic lens, and I'm curious as to my mounting options. Hopefully, someone who has one of these can clue me in. Any help would be greatly appreciated! -0z-
24. Hello everybody, Redstan is out of stock right now and I don't know that they'll be restocking. I'd prefer one of the red clamps if possible. Also, I'm looking for a red front clamp and and a diopter to get a closer minimum focus. The closer and more clear the better. Thanks for helping if you can! Trey treyvollmer3@gmail.com
25. There's alot of talk about the GH3 sensor size: whether it's multi aspect ratio or not and whether this matters at all. So, since I didn't see this posted anywhere else, I ask the only question that should matter to members of this forum: Is the gh3 sensor size still good for 2.66/ 2.35/ normal anamorphic and does it need to be hacked to shoot video in 4:3?
