a tad offtopic, but I have to admit that the VLOGs of @DaveAltizer are one of the very few hat I really enjoy watching until the (suprisingly not so bitter VLOG) end. Top notch content!
Awe shucks! Thank you for your kind words ?

I was thinking about it since its a pretty small and fun lens but then having f2 in the whole range is hard to leave ?
Then get the 10-25 f1.7!

Now if they made a 7-14 2.8 with filter mount, I'm in! Otherwise I'll stay with my tokina 11-20 f/2.8 and use MF
I have the 8-18 f2.8-4 and it is great! Wish it was constant but 2.8 on the wide end is good for me

Bumping this thread! Just made a video showing the amazing advancements of the V3 firmware! I love using this camera. Colors are great. Ibis is amazing and now autofocus is totally reliable

I said specificaly "imagine buying a Canon C200 mainly for the Raw and EF mount", so I was really specific.
There are 2 ways to use the C200 as it is.
1) a glorified C100. I do a lot of projects per year like this. Shoot 1080p and that's it.
2) cheapest internal raw with EF. The guys that we rent the C200 from do not even have the CFast cards for that! Never used it like this. I even bought one myself (ultra expensive Sandisk, half the price of the P4K!) and finally the producer went the usual 1080p (one of the worst investments I ever did..).
In his video @DaveAltizer makes a similar comparison! (Great minds and all..)
And now we are at it. @DaveAltizer I have some questions.
1) total depth of P4K+Metabones+X lens vs P6K + same X lens. What is the total depth?
2) do you believe the workflow is not ready yet? What about processing computer power for working with 6K footage?
3) low light performance. This is something a lot of people care to know.
4) except 6K, what other modes use all the sensor?
Thanks for the good job, I really enjoy your videos!
Edit: let's get real guys. A lot of people will take the 2495$ price, spent another thousand for rigging that, and still be less than half of what an EVA or C200 costs. These are real life sales over there and the money difference is substantial. A lot of people will do. Spending 7-8-9 thousands for cameras right now ia hard for individuals and they will thing again for spending so much when you have a lot cheaper but still capable options.
I did a sound job for Singaporean TV a month ago and the camera operator here had the C200. The producer thought they were going to take 10bit! When they realize they were getting "prosumer" files they were shocked!
1) technically BMPCC 4k with an XL Speedbooster will give you a "larger sensor" than the BMPCC 6k....but with LucAdapter Magicbooster....you can make the BMPCC 6k FULL FRAME potentially!
2) no workflow isn't ready yet. Resolve is still super buggy cause its in beta and 6k didn't work well on my machine. I am not going to mess with it till it gets better.
3)low light is great!
4) 4k ProRes uses the full sensor

Ask me any questions you have. Disclaimer: I wasn’t able to get 6k raw to work and need to spend some time getting it in Resolve. For now... here is a first look and impression video with some footage. Some 6k raw was able to be transcoded to 1080p... but that’s it. Seriously been a pain in the neck but it is what it is....

The first few generations of tech always look hideous - just wait, it will get better, then it will get great.
This is me going on record.
Absolutely. Only a matter of time. May not FULLY replace proper cameras, but would be a great run and gun alternative for quick B-Roll shots or something. I use my portrait mode all the time for instagram and have been really pleased. I hope to see more and more computational video over the next few years. Gonna be fun to change focus in post

This is so exciting. Will be buying one ASAP. Can't wait to put the small Tamron zooms on it.

thats what ive read. so does that mean that the st bernard + kitten video above cant be monetized, even though it has 2 million+ views? aw, man! that sucks! well its hopeless then lol
Hey Kaylee! I will speak for myself but also speak for my friends who are all in this YouTube creator space making a full time living. I have a channel called Kinotika and I am a full time YouTuber. I went full time about a year and a half ago and we have over 60,000 subscribers...on track to hit 100,000 next year hopefully.
First off...the money I make off ad revenue from Google is nothing. I’ll just say it to you....We make on average $1,000 a month off ad rev. That is by no means enough to live off of. On the months where we have had viral videos where we get close to a million views that month, we make $3,000 roughly that month. Even on our BEST months....$3,000 just isn’t enough money per month to live off of for me and my wife and kids.
Thats where affiliate marketing comes in. I make sometimes double money or sometimes more off affiliate compared to ad rev...and it is continuing to grow. (I still haven’t even enabled international amazon...so I am only dealing with the USA)
On top of affiliate, once we hit about 50,000 subscribers...agents started reaching out to me to represent us. I now have two agents working for me that get brand deals. Have you ever seen a video where they say “ This video brought to you by _____”? That is a brand deal. I get paid often $1,000 or more just to do one ad read. I make four videos a month and if I can get a brand to sponsor every video on my channel...we have some serious cash.
Moral of the story is:
CREATE AN AUDIENCE OF PEOPLE WHO CARE FIRST.Don’t worry about the money from Ad Rev or even affiliates. The biggest YouTube channels out there make the majority of their money from brand deals. The biggest creators I know for a fact will charge $20,000 and up just for an ad read.
You aren’t going to make any money for at least a year or more. It took me about a year of uploading two videos a week every week talking about camera gear before I started making anything substantial.
Making an “ENTERTAINMENT” channel is even harder than what I have done because it is difficult to monetize that. You have to gather a large following and then you will get calls from brands who want to pay you to sponsor your content. With what I do...people are already searching for the things I am talking about because I talk about new camera gear every day so it has a high searchability and discoverability rate.Watch channels like Derral Eves, Think Media, Video Creators, etc. They have tons and tons of videos teaching you how to get started.
Moral of the story is...make videos that make you happy first. Just have fun. Make stuff you are good at. Don’t try to conform to what you THINK other people want to see. It has taken me a long time to accept the fact that I am naturally good at talking about camera gear and apple tech....that’s about it.
Anyways....hope this helps.

I'd agree with that. The EM1X is a great camera but a bit heavy for Vlogging. I was really surprised E-M1 II got such a big firmware update, so long after release. If the AF is as good as you say it is, then you can pick one up used cheaper than a boring old A6400 and have much more fun with it, with much better colour, ergonomics, not to mention that incredible IBIS.
I am glad you have a 1D C again. I'd love to see a comparison of images between the 1D C and everything else. I still feel like the hefty MJPEG codec has the most CCD/film like colour going on of all the modern 4K stuff, especially in Canon LOG with a good LUT.
Even though the E-M1 II has taken a leap, I am keeping my EM1X though. I don't currently do any vlogging, and having a smaller, lighter pro Canon 1D style camera with great colour and IBIS is really nice. The feel of the body is superb, like a mini 1D C or 1D X II.
I'm totally with you...however...have you had any bugs with the EM1X? I owned two of them and both had crazy firmware bugs. Like the camera locks up and doesn't let me take photos, or in video mode all of a sudden the buttons get all whacked out and don't work. Gotta be just early firmware issues. If I can get a good deal on an EM1X I'd go with that over the EM1mkii.
Great perspective though on pricing. It is cheaper than the Sony a6400 and is a much better option for most people.
Ya...I won't let go of the 1DC again. I think its an important camera and it's a camera I want to always have in my collection. The Leica Q feels excessive. I may sell that honestly lol.
I want to pick up that Panny Leica 10-25mm f1.7 for the Olympus system and I'll be set.

Dave,
Can you actually do some real world tests instead of those walking towards the camera and ducking? Maybe mount both cameras on a rod and get the angle of view as close as possible and vlog with it and shoot some scenes. Interested to compare the whole package: AF, IBIS, color, codec etc...
I would be more interested in how it compares to A7iii, EOS R or XT3.
Thanks for taking the time to even look at it. I’m sure not a lot of people will.
I currently only have a Z6 and a GH5 at my disposal...I can try to get a hold of an a7iii but the Z6 is pretty similar.
But ya I'll do some boring focus tests for sure! lol
One thing that does suck is it needs light. A lot of it. Its a noisy camera. Gotta keep that ISO low and shoot super shallow if possible.

S1 Anyone?
In: Cameras
I'm stoked on S1H...gonna have to review the S1 though...I know this...and I know I am probably gonna love it. It seems to create extremely rich files and love the color science. Such a shame no reliable video AF....but you can't have everything. S1 or S1H will pair perfectly with my CONTAX Zeiss lenses..
-
This is very exciting for sure! I hope the AF performs well in video (however my Z6 needs some serious firmware updates to fix the Video AF as is with Z lenses)
I'll order one as soon as I get paid next ?
Being a gear reviewer is expensive

I just received my EM1 Mkii from B&H used department and immediately loaded V3 on it.
I am using the Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 and the autofocus performs flawlessly. As good as Canon Dual Pixel AF IMO and more reliable than the Nikon Z6.I love the colors on the camera and I feel the size of this body is just perfect. THIS is what I wanted. The EM1X was overpriced and always having a grip made it unnecessarily bulky for a MFT camera. Going to do a review on this new setup soon.
I feel the upcoming Panasonic Leica 10-25mm f1.7 paired with this camera will be my go to "YouTuber" camera for a while. I love the color science and IBIS is magical. Only thing "missing" is a good 120fps mode...which I can just get with my Z6 when I occasionally need it.
So for now my current setup is this:1DC on a tripod in my studio setup for that 4K MJPG Canon Log.
EM1 Mkii for vlog style, run and gun shooting.
Nikon Z6 for 120fps and run and gun shooting/ backup cam.
Leica Q (which I just picked up used for a steal) pictures of my kid and everyday life/ instagram shots.

Already ordered an EM1 Mkii from B&H....gonna do a vid about it! I think this is now going to be a way better option for people than the EM1X...WAY cheaper. Paid $1,100 for it used.
If the AF is as good as the EM1X there is no reason to get the EM1X for video...other than the limited 120fps mode.
EM1 Mkii may be the best option for solo content creators who want best bang for buck in both price and size.

I'd love to buy a used Alexa as a studio camera. Why not!
Loving my stupid little 1DC again. There was something great about the effort it took for me to use it. I'm starting to go back to my original reason why I started making youtube videos again...and Im excited to be using the 1DC. Sold my EOS R and will be shooting on the GH5 and 1DC primarily now for a while.....with the exception of gear I will be reviewing.
If I can get an Alexa for $5k I'll jump on it.

I have owned this camera in the past twice already... so this makes my third unit.
I cant get over the fact that the image off this thing is some of the best ever
Why I Bought the Canon 1DC in 2019!!

I think it has the best image of all the mirrorless cameras I've ever seen, can't wait to see what full v-log brings.
AF for video is its only real weakness but for me that's not a big deal - it is more important that it has great IBIS, handheld with my Canon fd lenses will be lovely
Totally. AF would be nice.. but id use this as a handheld camera with my vintage glass. Just pure cinematic goodness

I really love the richness of the image this camera produces. Really impressive honestly. Hmmmmm.....maybe I should pick one up

Dave, did you change to upgrade to 1dxii? It’s been almost a year since the last thread. Thoughts? Would you recommend it or any other camera for 4k60?
thanks
Nope...never got around to it. For the last year I have just been bouncing around based on what is new and trending for gear reviews. Im tired of bouncing around all the time and ready to stick to a system I will use for a while.
Currently...the EOS R is in my bag along with the GH5. I recently re purchased the 1DC...but will probably just hold onto it for sentimental reasons now. Only paid $1700 for it. Its a great camera as a backup or something and I greatly prefer the look of it to the GH5 or the EOS R still!
I bought and sold the EM1X from Olympus. Really enjoyed that camera and may trade my GH5 for that....Its the perfect little run and gun camera (ironically even though its got a massive built in grip). The IBIS is insanity...the color science is wonderful...I love MFT for the tiny lenses. ITS JUST WAY OVERPRICED!!! So I sold it....and will maybe re purchase one when I can get a deal on it....
There are some rumors of two new Olympus bodies coming out this year. Hopefully one of them will either be an EM5 mkiii or EM1 mkiii. Both of which should have the same improvements the EM1X had. Better more reliable phase detect AF for video....and the mode1 for stabilization correcting the wobble effect of the ibis. mode1 on the EM1X was incredible. Really makes using only the IBIS even for a wide angle lens possible.
In 2020 we will see a 1DX mkiii and I will certainly buy one of those as I know it will hold its value for several years and it will be the most advanced Canon hybrid for a while. IDK. Canon makes me angry.
