    24p is outdated

Not this again... You were the one that made the case against 24p, so you provide the proof that it's inferior. We understand, from your posts, that you are most likely a teenager or young adult, and maybe nobody has ever told you how the real world works but your claims, statements and wishes aren't proof that 24p is inferior...

  2. Being serious, it's mostly 'simply' a case of starting out as a 100% stills photographer who through a process of trial & error technique-wise plus balance of tools used, added X% of video per annum at the approx following rate: Year 1 = + 10% (just static single camcorder on tripod ceremony & speeches) Year 2 = + 20% (as above plus a tiny amount of handheld or other bits and bobs on a tripod) Year 3 = + 35% (adding more elements and volume) Year 4 = + 50% Year 5 = + 75% Year 6 = + 100% Since that time, more refinement/evolution than revolution. The principle skills are probably determination combined with the ability to multitask whilst being prepared for quite a few setbacks, especially financial ones as there is no official guide or handbook, just self-education/experimentation. If anyone really wants to know the specifics, they can book and pay for a workshop. But it ain't cheap. Various competitors have been trying to weasel info for years, but I protect my niche like a cornered weasel myself 🤑😈

  3. Some thoughts on what the Leica Q3 specs mean for Panasonic's next big mirrorless cameras https://www.eoshd.com/news/new-leica-q3-points-to-future-panasonic-s1h-mark-ii-specs-such-as-8k-and-prores/

  4. As a manager, its probably worth assessing how safe any brand would ultimately be in the hands of a corporation with this behaviour in its recent past anyway.

  5. To be fair, even Olympus themselves weren't interested in keeping Olympus cameras going anymore. Better to have been bought and transitioned this way by a company that was - at least in the current term - interested in producing them rather than it being bought strictly for the name and it then be used just as a brand stamp on a succession of low end OEM stuff. There are numerous examples of this in different industries but one example from photography is Rollei where that brand has gone from meaning this : To meaning this : With Olympus, we will now at least be spared that indignity and so it can be remembered for the cameras up to this point rather than being subsequently associated with a raft of shitty products.

  10. In reality - neither, because having played around with an S5 ii, I don't like the ergonomics of that body design, it just feels uncomfortable/awkward to use in my hand. Ignoring that, probably the G9 ii due to smaller & lighter long telephoto lenses, probably better IBIS, lower rolling shutter and less moire issues (assuming the video performance is comparable to a GH6).

  11. tell me why you're comparing film and digital cameras? a film camera on a tripod makes it better than current mirrorless cameras? did i get that right?

  12. Something like an F3 looks better than most of the latest mirrorless cameras regardless of how you use them.... unless you've got half-a-decade of colour grading experience, and even then....

  14. A full review - this one is PTZ-focused. This one includes a direct test between the P4K and the M4K and the conclusion is it's the same sensor. (linked to timestamp) The side-by-side size comparison really is something!

Stumbled across this feature film which came out quite recently that was shot entirely with the Panasonic G7! Tease trailer: Trailer:

  16. Open gate for the fp is not needed for 35mm anamorphic as is usually shot - just crop the sides. The current height of a 16:9 recording on the fp and similar affordable full frame cameras matches the height of an Alexa 35 camera recording in open gate. You do lose some resolution from cropping the sides, but it's fine and it also improves rolling shutter speed.

  17. It is a shame they can't do slight compression like 2:1 or 3:1 like the old BMPCC

    G7 in 2019

A couple of days ago I recorded a conference on the g7 in 4K 24fps with the unlimited recording hack. Firmware version was 2.2 and color of g7 is black. The camera successfully recorded close to 40 minutes of 4K video before the conference ended and I stopped recording. No overheating, and the camera was not hot. The files were successfully recorded, and when pieces together in DaVinci resolve I did not detect any dropped or skipped frames from one clip to another (the camera splits clips after a certain file size).

  21. Thank you for your honest and vsluable post and glimpse into the hardships of an upcoming DOP @PPNSHopefully your hard work will pay off a big deal this year! I had a branch fall on my head when setting up a butterfly with the gaffer. Whenever i was being the gaffer i took great care of my lighting people. That accident made me decide to stop working on sets of narrative features in the low budget world in Germany for sure as most of the films made here are not dear to my heart at all. Wish you the best and good choices and instinct regarding projects.
