  1. I did a quick test shooting 180 VFR and apply twixtor (10%). This slow mo is equivalent of shooting at 600fps. Each sequence that last 10 sec in the video was 0.5 sec in real life. Obviously this is far from behind perfect, the subject it boring, twixtor soften the image and generates artifacts. Just a test to see how far I could push the slomo mode with somehow decent results.

  2. Just finished my 2nd round of shooting for my short. I had a little more trouble correcting these images as I shot a lot in lower light than the first round. But here are a few shots that turned out okay... I will say that I think ML Raw has ruined me for other cameras.

  3. The best part about these great edits is when some moron posts in the comments asking which software they used.

  4. He can do whatever he wants. What about the readers out (t)here? What about disinformation or let's use some harder terminology: FUD *poop* You know people read. You know sales go down. You know R&D investment follows the curve. Hybrid gear follows up. And price for expensive gear and ENG cameras I personally find a minus for creative filmmaking art follow the rule. Economies of scale are a bitch, you know, we know : ) You've already accused me to be much defensive on GH5. Listen, I am not paid by Panasonic but I believe they could wire me indeed... LOL My friendly beef with wolf33d I don't know the name but his alias is old. It includes any piece of new gear he immediatly bashes through his posting because doesn't match HIS needs or liking without the necessary learning about -- most part of time, still when they are literally specs on paper (let alone distinct lens AF performance, different settings combination or shooting setups): GH5, Mavic... not only Panasonic stuff; not fanboy here, I'm sorry, I am brand agnostic since ever : ) and you can find me to defend Sony (my 1st love), Canon (my 1st DSLR and 1st reason why I moved away from REDs to here) or any other major or small workshop *a bit harsh to use the word for some vaporware at times* the usual under the perspective from someone used to read you two. BTW, here's one now directly addressed to you, Glenn: you're so picky on GH5 flaws. What about your love about that JVC toy? I posted that test full of issues. You still praise the thing or added no word on that *sigh* go figure if those were GH5 issues instead... LOL You remind me what or who? Myself when I try to look for some alternative to mainstream. But, hybrid devices like 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording + 4K/60p + IBIS + complex AF (it doesn't matter how rough is) are far to be other than fragile and innovative market experiment yet. Nevermind, it should be your creative mind of a screenwriter to talk. Fair enough. Our posts say too much about us, though. That's for sure! ;-)

  5. It makes very little difference whether any of us like a camera or not...I've read about your evaluation of the camera as someone who wanted to like the GH5, but in the end you could not...and I enjoyed reading the process you went through...I don't see this as members criticizing the film or wolf but I do see the question hang out there....a camera is just an inert thing....like a hammer or a chisel...and the filmmaker makes the choice...what camera...what lenses....to AF or not to AF....these are the responsibilities that lie with the filmmaker...no forced choices...just decisions made along the way....and the reason your post and search re the GH5 resonated with me, is because I feel exactly the same about Panasonic colors as you do about Canon colors...it gives you the image you want...once that choice has been made, the rest is all your fault or mine...because ultimately the image is everything...the filmmakers job is to work around the rest...nothing more or less...so I tend to like images more than I like cameras lol??

  6. Maybe its the "Americanah Concept Trailer" it matches with the Specs and the Badroom. These infos are given from User cantsin Look at this example - according to its maker, it has been shot with a GH4 using the internal codec, Panasonic 12-35mm F2.8, 20mm F1.7 & 42.5mm F1.7 lenses, Tiffen Black Satin filter, three cheap Yongnuo LED lights and a Nebula 4000 gimbal

  7. True. I did one in my spare time with a Panasonic FZ200, £15 monopod, Hague MMC and a Zoom H1. I won't link to it because it has a tendency to trigger the politically correct. I travelled around the country going on demonstrations and compiling interviews and only carried a small flight bag at all times, often having one hand free to ward off missiles being thrown by opposition groups. As above, my only costs were travel related, but even that was discounted because I got to travel with the group on their coaches - so going to places like Essex from Birmingham was costing me £15 instead of £150. Good thread suggestion, by the way - I am exhausted with gear coveting

  8. Hey friends! time to post some g6 footage again. shot 8months ago. I lit and shot this in 1.5 hours, no planning ahead of the shoot. All quick n pretty style! Talents´voices didnt make it in the edit because of my not so pretty audio job. Edit took a looong time, because I missed some shots. So next time, at least a small shotlist:) Panny G6 still a great cam. I like the ergos better than the G7. Grip is more lovely to hold and it somehow feels more solid. Still shooting with my G6, GX80 and G7 for test shots only so far:) Hope you can enjoy this faulty exercise of mine. cheers, Marty

  9. This is just about as late as they can leave it. Having been on C100 MK1 for years for the standard budget level work where Amira can't be hired in, it's annoying not to have anything over 30p and no 4K. It absolutely needs 4k/30p at least, and 1080/100p wouldn't go amiss. Otherwise I'm off to get a GH5 to cover those needs. Money is waiting, Canon!

  10. An interesting document from Panasonic about how to work with LOG. The PDF is specific to the DVX200 but it does contain interesting info. http://pro-av.panasonic.net/en/dvx4k/pdf/ag-dvx200_tech_brief_vol6_en.pdf

  11. I understand your points, but I like soft video that takes the edge off the inherent digital videoey look of these cameras. I probably would have used a smaller frame rate to get a little more sharpness, but it's not my video... now as to why he didn't use ND filters... IDK... I would have but again irrelevant. Yup, I think he handled the color nicely compared to a lot of videos I have seen. But your sharpness point is really another negative of the GH5, or an overblown feature that seems like a pro but may actually be a con. We've all seen Wolff's Cuba video, the man knows what he's doing and is capable of razor sharp footage. As far as not subscribing to an old comment of mine... well... a little more information as to what you oppose in that comment may make your point a little more clear. Okay, let me clarify... at the time... weeks... months ago... IMO Kholi's video was the best footage floating around from the GH5. If I had to choose now, I'd say Luke Neumann's 6K Alien Video is the best GH5 footage I've seen and that motorcycle video you posted a few weeks ago. All of those filmmakers would have made equally great footage, maybe better, with 5D4... which is my real issue with the GH5... On the surface it is a great camera, with great features... there just hasn't been as many great videos popping up... which has actually surprised me. I really, really wanted to buy a GH5, but I just haven't seen enough compelling footage to warrant the price tag. Again this is just my opinion.

  12. You made some fair points, but I wouldn't define Wolff's comments as "misinformation." And I'm not a hundred percent sure that stating that the GH5 is not the camera for someone who needs good AF, is being picky of its flaws. What I don't understand is blind allegiance and even stretching the truth about a product. I actually don't care about AF with the GH5, I would never use overpriced, plastic native lenses with it, if I had decided to buy one. As far as the JVC, I would never buy that camera anyway, so I don't really care about its flaws. The only thing I've ever mentioned about the camera is that it has nice color and good 4K... oh that's right... I said I liked the image better than the GH5... I'm sorry I guess that was my mistake.

  13. I'll tell you this, if I was traveling to a place as beautiful as that, I'd be sure to capture footage in the highest resolution & bitrate possible and, if I was determined to slow motion, I'd consider doing it in post to avoid the inevitable deterioration in resolution by doing in-camera slo mo. The other alternative is to do two takes, one in the slo mo and the other in the highest resolution possible.

  14. Ah nice! Interesting to follow this as I'm wanted to take a look at the API for the WIFI mode on these cameras but never got around to it. Be good to get a full on http debugging session going to see what the app sends. Imagine you're doing similar to map it all out?

  16. On the spot, Jon. Here's why your posts often much say. All about standards. We always must put them on high. Well, just as a little disclaimer on my last post. My 1st love actually was film but once in Rome be roman, the point is made. Fanboys are pussies. At least, those who put a single device or a geek approach in front of the beauty of a picture. We are all geeks, but to be a fan should mean beyond. Cinema fans and so on are made of some other kind ever since. Hence let's get high our standards please. We can praise something. Doesn't mean it's paramount. That said, I still second to praise The Godfather, The Beatles, pizza, Kholi's skills or that Patagonia piece but Coppola didn't invent the film language as much as his choice rather than the rest of the pipe ended on GH2 though : D classic composers are much beyond and richer than such repetitive pop chords which reminds me wolf33d edits : ) neither is true no one is able to beat Kholi with a GH5 in hands. :-)

  17. Why can't wolf just not like the GH5? Actually he never said he didn't like it, he just didn't think the AF was effective enough for his style of shooting. If you really want to criticize the man, you could easily have said... yeah of course the AF isn't good enough... go get a Canon if you want good AF... but instead you try to convince him that he isn't using it properly... personally I think this is one of the nicer GH5 videos I've seen, so why not commend him?

  18. Ahh, yeah that would be soft 1080. The resolutions won't match. I would use Instant4K Red Giant plugin if uprezzing and exporting 1080 as 4k. Takes a lot of time to render of course but in the end you generally can't tell the difference between 4k and 1080 if you use it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lygWL2unr_Q

  22. Hey guys n dolls! Still love my G6. G7 didnt get properly tested yet, don´t like the body ergos. GX80 getting a hell lotta tested but it´s not so much fun as my G6 was. Yet. Maybe because GX80s HD is kinda underwhelming and without a cage its a little small though beautiful to hold, kinda slippery too. Bought a cage, so thats kinda helpful. Guess my run and gun days will become fewer and it´s time to get used to proper big and fat setups and cameras. Big Bertha Urs(ul)a

  23. @ssrdd I am waiting for a 4K C100 type of camera 1 and a half year now! The LS300 @Alt Shoo mentioned is a great option in 3000euros, +1000 for a Atomos, you have 4K/60p, great (and too many) codec options, variable sensor (native m43 and whatever else through adapters) and a 7" monitor (the Atomos), and a great run and gun 4:2:2 camera on its own with Prime zoom function.

  28. Seen all of this. I replied to the Mavic thread. I am now using +1 sharpness and neat video As for the GH5 update I do not believe they can do miracles with contrast based AF, pardon me if I am wrong 480p? Are you sur you did not mean 144p...? Don't forget it is slow mo only 120 and + fps. Don't forget the shitty lens, and YouTube. Otherwise I don't know what to say. No way I would bring a 12mm only. I needed lightest weight PLUS zoom versatility. Your comment for AF and landscapes is not relevant, I am shooting a person in a landscape, not just a landscape. And please watch my Cuba video on my YouTube channel. It looks a lot better and it was shot with A7RII and also you will see why I need the focus.

Just MFT makes it so easy to adapt from anywhere. Say... what makes you go with Panasonic or Olympus when you can have a set of these puppies for example? (You'd throw 'em on a ZY Optics/Zhong Yi/Mitakon Lens Turbo II EF - M4/3 (or Metabones of course, but again: value!) with a C/Y - EOS adapter) Or instead of going for a 1299 42.5mm f/1.2, get one of these for like a third of the price and throw it on your speedboosters (again, L/R - EOS -> boosted EF - M4/3) : Even the Veydras have been way less than 1000 a pop (12 & 85mm came out later): Love primes as well. Primes, boosters, IBIS. The holy combo. To me/us atleast... maybe we are a select few that delve in a little deeper than going to our electronics store and letting the sales guy advise us on what to get... but to me, there are so much alternatives to pick from that in my eye are so much more bang for the buck... you'd have a hard time selling me that 1299 lens. But they're sticking to it, in fact, it seems the focus is shifting towards the high-end (which kinda makes sense, because smartphones are getting better and better and it's harder to sell people cheap cameras that can't really set themselves apart from smartphones in terms of looks and quality, it's starting to take more to make a difference, so we are seeing more expensive options and even more entry level, still high-end, medium format gets offered now for people to set themselves apart even more) so it must be working.

  30. Well that cost more than I had hoped, but the new machined aluminum collars fit great, and have been dropped off for anodizing. Now I just need to order some lock screws. Once I get everything back, I will post pics of my B&H mod Mk II. Should be ready by the beginning of June.

  33. FWIW, the basic technique of match-cutting has certainly been part of the craft from the earliest days of montage editing. Now, since the tempo of modern editing is so frantic and kinetic I'd call this evolution of the style "hyper-match-cut" as it's over and above even the fast paced stuff we're used to in more "standard" edits. Also, the craft to aggressively accentuate the blend of movement is obviously such a huge priority it becomes the prominent aesthetic and the entire justification of the video. Cool, to be sure. Enjoyable in short doses as it's style above substance and fun to look at. Perfect for impressionistic travel films. How well does it work for fictional narrative though? I suppose it depends. Alright, so this is going to be a bit of a tangent, but I must say since this thread has me thinking about it, after watching "Jason Bourne" last night, I felt that the fast cut style was pushed beyond my tolerance. Your mileage may differ, but for me it became unnecessary distraction rather than an effective technique. However, it was interesting to note how incredibly short the editor/director was willing to make a shot and still attempt to maintain narrative cohesion. The answer, as much as I could tell, was about a 4th of a second. For me, it was like this: visual mess, visual mess, visual mess, okay I see a knife falling to the ground, visual mess, visual mess, visual mess, he landed a punch there, visual mess, visual mess, visual mess, okay I see a gun, visual mess, visual mess, visual mess, his wound is a liability, etc., etc. --And all that happens in about 2 seconds. I'm actually not being dismissively critical of the "mess" part, (flying elbows, CU's of motion blurred faces) because I realize it's designed (or tolerated?) to be a sort of impressionistic din and then the incredibly short but important visual clues let the viewer connect to the unfolding sequence. I'm just fascinated by deconstructing the technique and the limits they were willing to push. So, it works for me when it's short and highly stylized as in these travel videos, but kinda annoying when looking at it for extended action sequences.
