Probably true for most consumers, but all of these new camera releases seem to have so much hype surrounding them that it’s really hard to separate facts from hyperbole. Do I really need to know how well a new camera performs in Hawaii or Las Vegas under manufacturer controlled conditions? In addition to using exotic locales, professional models and hand-picked reviewers, manufacturer’s often bundle incentives for their new products to boost pre-orders. If I had watched just about any of these YouTube reviewers and pre-ordered an EOS R without knowing it had an unbelievable rolling shutter issue, I’d be angry—angry at the reviewers, angry at the manufacturer and angry at myself for being so easily duped. If you can’t trust the reviews and can’t trust the manufacturer then the pre-order option starts to look pretty dicey. Deceptive marketing whether intentional or not is not good for promoting new camera sales, creating manufacturer loyalty or building a YouTube subscriber base. When you can’t trust marketing  information and the reviews presented on the internet, then whatever gear you currently have starts to look better and better. Just forget about watching reviews or buying any new camera...at least until you’ve tried it yourself with a rental or a retailer that has a generous return policy.

The real issue is that a lot of the top reviewers are gear stokers who cream their pants as soon as they get their hands on something new. They advocate  pathetic and rampant consumerism.

It makes sense that Panasonic has introduced FF mirrorless cameras now - Get in on the FF game now before Canon and Nikon mirrorless systems are established.
I've been a fan of Canon film cameras since 1975, and still have A and F series cameras, but I bought an EOS 10s (film) and never liked the thing. (Too big and bulky.)  I never thought Canon digital cameras were the way to go forward, and when the Panasonic G3 came out, that fit my still photographic needs.
With m43 you can go small and light, or rig up some monstrous and expensive glass.  Pound for pound (money and weight), m43 will get what most people consider excellent photos and video.  I see more benefits with m43 format in film making.  It is only a 1.3 crop factor from s35 movie film.  You can get wide aperture lenses to compensate for depth of field, and you need less light when you do. mFT has the advantage if you do want more depth of field.  Try photographing a group from 5 feet away with a 24mm at f2.8 on full frame!
It also makes sense for Tony N. to say FF is the way.  After all, he's getting paid most of the time when he is lugging around the ton of FF cameras and lenses he uses.
By the way, the best image quality I get is with my full frame Cambo 5"x7", but I'm also very happy with my G3, GH3, GH4, GH5, AE-1, FtB, F1, (2x)F1n, Sinar F1, and Graflex cameras.

And you were not the only one. I left 5DII in behalf of the GH1 only one year later my previous purchase.
Silly discussion. This Tony N. looks like to be a smart a$$ more often than should be. I've also abandoned his insights for a long time now. Who abandons who (or what camera format) after all?

If Fujifilm can be doing so well with both APS-C and medium format at the same time I am sure Micro Four Thirds can survive full frame, it has done since the start. I once chose the GH1 over the 5D Mark II remember!
And I will never part with some of the more unique c-mount lenses, micro four thirds lenses and anamorphic glass - the anamorphic on full frame is, shall we say, more challenging.

I hope they continue with both, and don't handicap or pigeonhole one line in favor of the other (like only making ultra-compact bodies for m4/3, or keeping video features out of the FF bodies because they're "for photographers" ).

It would be really nice if they made an adapter to use m4/3 lenses on the FF mount, so people can ease into the new system, and to make both systems more appealing. The SL mount is a big enough diameter that I think this could work.

Big fan of Olympus. I don't see why they would have to enter 135. Love their cameras and especially the lenses. Smaller sensors have plenty of advantages. The question is when camera companies are going to fully embrace more computational corrections. With the faster read out and less heat, smaller sensors will always have the advantage in this area. I find AWB better in my iPhone than any camera I've ever tried.
Smaller lenses is a real advantage. In time image processing should be able to make up for disadvantages like lower DR or low light sensitivity. An m4/3 sensor is quite a lot bigger than what's in a phone.
135 should become the new medium format. There is no reason for the average user to carry heavy and expensive lenses. The perfect camera for me would be the Hasselblad X1D but I can't afford it. It has plenty of disadvantages like being slow et c. But its strong points are unbeatable - being very compact but with a huge sensor. Likewise there will be plenty who needs a super fast camera with small lenses. The smaller the sensor, the faster the camera.
The current 135 craze will subside, like all trends.
It's laughable when you see someone argue that one particular system, or format, is the best for everyone. I would guess these are typically photographers with very little experience of different kinds of photography.

Andrew...See if you can find out why they have gone to a triaxial moveable screen and not a full articulating screen. This seems really bizarre. Seems others like Fuji who had the fully articulating screen went to some flippy thing too. WHY? Is it acting as some form of heat sync or something? I really like the fully articulating screens but can't understand why all new cameras don't come with this feature, especially when older models had this feature. Very frustrating.

I have one more thought about the camera industry - the camera industry is a mess.
The following is an example using Canon (yes fish in a barrel) but much the same applies to the other companies.
So imagine you are a new ILC camera purchaser and you want your first camera to be a Canon. What do you buy? And exactly what camera are they trying to sell you?
You hear that Canon makes excellent DSLRs and lenses. Great but this looks to be 'old tech' that is gradually going to be on the way out. Not something you should sensibly buy into now as it isnt likely to have great resale value.
So the future is 'mirrorless'? But which should I buy the EOS-M or the EOS-R? Well EOS-M is cheaper and has more lenses. But is Canon going to develop it further now that it has the EOS-R? Or is it another dead end? It is not as though EOS-M and EOS-R are compatible with one another in any shape or form?
So it seems that EOS-R is the future so this is the one I should buy? But I am not sure its ready. It says it has 4k but it doesnt really. It says it has slow motion 120p but without focus. And what lenses should I buy? 3 out of 4 of the new lenses weigh more than the camera. 2 out of 4 of the lenses cost more than the camera. Oh so I am supposed to buy the old legacy dslr lenses and use them on my new camera via way of 'an adapter'? I know Canon wants to sell me an adapter - they have just launched 3!!
So all in all what I see is Canon offering a bewildering array of options that for most customers will simply be 'too confusing' to buy into. They will most likely decide to 'just wait it out'.
And much the same can be said about other manufacturers. Panasonic's foray in FF devaluing the future of M43? Nikon devaluing the future of its DSLRs with the Z range? So surely Sony and Fuji will benefit from this confusion? Not at all. When Sony had the monopoly in FF mirrorless it was an easy switch but Nikon and Canon have muddied the waters, they have done enough to stop the tide of switchers without making a convincing case for their own mirrorless.
I dont see things turning out well for the camera industry in general...

    Thanks Karim
And Dan, yes webrunner is right. It's a cultish following around the Pocket camera.
For example, I understand that Facebook targets each post to a subset of my followers on the EOSHD Facebook Page, depending on the subject. It's automatic, I don't have any control over it. But a lot of pitchforks came out for me today on Facebook which confused me because EOSHD supporters, followers and friends don't usually behave like that.... I know why this time was different, because Facebook had targeted a Blackmagic article at the Blackmagic hardcore fanatics and they didn't like what I had to say.
As for typical BM roll out, yes it is. Trade shows have less meaning to everybody outside the bubble. Most customers don't want to be teased for half a year or even more before they can get the damn camera in their hands. Blackmagic should stop syncing their announcements to NAB and instead put the announcement out a week before they start shipping.
The irony is, here I am feeling upset about being passed over for a camera in my hands... with a hardcore of Blackmagic users saying "what a crybaby EOSHD is" when at the last few camera launches, those very same people were moaning about not having a camera in their hands, because it's late or whatever.
At the end of the day, I reflect on the course this thread just took and I regret it. I stand by my hurt over the camera and snub, but I regret what's happened. Take what you read from everyone on forums with a pinch of salt including even yourself whilst saying it! And including me. I am not myself on the internet sometimes, nobody is. The internet is a weird simulation which is causing issues in real society across the globe all the time. It's not real life, it's a machine-assisted facsimile of it. John Brawley and I would not have behaved the same in real life. The internet is an argument generator and a distorted mirror and I might indeed have to shortly go to the pub and have a stiff drink.

I inserted myself into the discussion last night when I probably shouldn’t have, but I do stand by my opinion that Andrew should have been invited to the Manchester event.
I, for one, never felt that John Brawley was to blame for this and feel that most people on this site have been very thankful for his contributions, not just about info on the upcoming camera but his openness about the inner workings of a Hollywood set and his methods of shooting.
But the disdain displayed to Andrew in this thread is mind boggling. I don’t always agree with him, but the man has wholeheartedly opened his craft and home to a countless amount of strangers for free. There is not one other site in the video community that is completely ad free and he rarely asks for a thank you. I can only imagine the cost it is to upkeep this site. I’d be a liar if I didn’t admit that I find him infuriating at times, but I would never question his devotion to his craft and his readers.
With that being said, I feel JB’s reply to the events was unnecessarily rude. Perhaps there was a breakdown in communication as Andrew has already stated but for every person that felt Andrew could have handled the snub differently, they should equally admit that JB could have handled his response differently as well.
BM was born on the backs of hobbyists and enthusiasts. We paid for the R&D of the Ursa Pro with every Pocket or Micro we bought. As much as we appreciate their inexpensive cinema cameras, they are only available because we decide to purchase them... it’s like a television show, it only exists at the behest of its viewers.
But in the end, they are both artists and artists are passionate, honest and sensitive people... they must be to put themselves and their work out into the world for scrutiny.

Late to this, but to answer the topic, I do think it's a lot of Sony fanboys trying to defend their "territory". The Z cameras are competent and with Nikon's ergonomics might be something I get if I have too much money to burn, which is probably never.
I get paid work for stills work with a GH3, so ultimately it's about client expectation management, as well as how comfortable you are with working with your tools.
