That’s a grading decision. I have a Z 6 and it certainly does not have crushed blacks. If anything it shows that youtubers don’t change the picture profile at all. Default contrast and sharpening in standard profile doesn’t look very nice, too contrast and sharpened. This was shot in Prores Raw so we’re looking at a graded image. I thought it was pretty nice to see a cool grade. I’m getting tired of everything looking like it’s shot at golden hour in July even though it’s shot in the north in November. If you shoot in flat or neutral picture profile the blacks aren’t crushed. If you dial down contrast and sharpening in the standard profile it gives a very nice image straight away. It’s a wonderful image in Nikon flat. Like the D750 but better.

    DPReview BANS links to EOSHD!!

Barney Britton has responded to say he is now consigning all my emails to his spam folder and breaking off communications. If he won't remove the ban on EOSHD at DPReview, then Amazon will. And I sent him this: -------- Barney It isn’t a closed matter or a case for the spam folder for me. I will be taking things to Amazon, putting in a complaint with them about the negative impression your forum ban is creating for EOSHD, the censorship of your own users and the damage it has caused to the reputation of my site. No doubt I will be pointing out the history of copyright infringement and slander on your forum to them as well, because I have screenshots of posts that were left up for months before being deleted. As well as the inconvenience the forum URL ban places on your users (and Amazon’s customers), it means that Google is picking up EOSHD related topics and discussions on your forum, placing these above the original topics on EOSHD and they are all orphaned without a link to the source, damaging the SEO ranking of my site and causing material harm to my income. The forum ban has been in place for how many years now - 3? 4? You have over several years wound me up to such an extent that you’ve created a negative impression with other staff at DPReview such as with Scott, Chris and Jordan, as well as your forum users. It’s an absolute disgrace. I didn’t have a problem with anyone else at DPReview apart from you and Shawn. Gannon makes a string of idiotic mistakes, but you’re persistently insidious. Think about that next time you have the cheek to ask me to seek to edit my opinions on my own forum. Andrew -------- At least I managed to refrain from calling him a cock-womble this time. Time to turn my focus to Amazon, after all they are the real boss. It is time for Amazon to put an end to the personal vendettas.

I enjoy Chris and Jordan's videos. I think overall they do a good job reviewing cameras, are honest in their reviews, and I've found that when using cameras they've reviewed I come to a lot (but not all) of the same conclusions. I don't really go to DPReview's main site and skip their other YouTube content, but I enjoy Chris and Jordan. There are also, I think, substantially more users there. Which is why Andrew is frustrated; his links being censored there harms his traffic and, frankly, deprives readers access to more knowledge.

I have my eye on their E2 F6 (the full frame 6K variant) so I've been following developments in their facebook group. Took some time to grade new footage from their original m43 E2 and I gotta say, it's pretty good. I had to denoise some shots and they didn't clean up as well as my EVA1 does -- probably because my EVA1's noise is finer and tight, not "clumpy". but still, based on one of their engineers saying that the F6 will be their best performing (in terms of noise) I've got my fingers firmly crossed that it will be the "vistavision" cinema camera I've been longing for... and only $5,000. Here's that E2 footage I took a stab at grading. The last shot of the girl with the camera is my fav. Skin tones and highlight roll-off work for me.

I think you are too fixated on having an ACTUAL robot to the filming. We aren't going to need to have robot filming/photography to be disruptive. The disruption will come from both hardware and software. Imagine AI software that allow you to import all the video and images and it will analyze all the scenes, generated multiple draft of final edited video with music, transitions, title. It will be able to copy another videographer's editing style and apply to your videos. This combined with affordable camera and useful features such as DPAF & affordable gimbal will allow any weekend warriors to do videography as a side hustle and undercharge the full timers. If I spend 10 hours shooting and the software will take care the rest, I have no problem charging less. I have work with alot of wedding videographers and have seen alot of the final edit. The videos are very generic and formulaic. I would have no problem doing it myself as a weekend warrior let alone a sophisticated AI software. I would definitely raised the bar even though I mostly shoot stills. I think you are underestimating the combination of human operator and sophisticated AI software able to produce quality works and undercut the competitions. I can definitely see the perfect storm happening when the recession hit and even people with 4 years degree unable to find a job (there alot!), people sick of working for min wage, job loss from automation (automated car, factory worker, job taken away from robot) and so many affordable quality gears (imagine DJI Osmo Pocket Pro version with bigger sensor sub $1000, mic, LED light ), sophisticated AI software that cut significant editing time and plenty of free and premium education out there. The quality will rise significantly while the pricing goes down.

Now being interested, I visited dpreview site with great curiosity and without prejudice, and made three main personal, of course ingenious, conclusions: 1) out of web-business matter (about which I have zero competency) you really have full right to stay with smile high above and to be proud on superior look and feel of EOSHD - dpreview is so cluttered with all-over-the-place advertising messages that so obviously eat space for exchanging information and free communication: in comparison to EOSHD, visitor there inevitably has to have feeling of being squeezed in auxiliary rooms (contrary, here, not at least as side-curative effect, members have so clean, reverberating space for intoxicated listening of themselves when easily calling similar enthusiasts as clowns, idiots etc.) Simply, it is hard to stay at Dpreview too long and not to be either bored or afraid of too well-known supermarket claustrophobia 2) being so intrusively obliged to sponsors and so-so trying to find impossible balance between two contradictory, mutually exclusive tasks (serving as unbiased discussion portal under the permanent rafal of persuading ads and enumeration voting) - psychologically it is very hard to owner(s) of dpreview not to hear some inner voices of restless bad-conscience against character of purity of EOSHD, especially if once upon a time you knew each other or started from similar idealistic roots... so 3) I'd say owner(s) of dpreview simply envy you (At least, I'd surely envy if I'm in his/their place, and if I'm not so notorious, hopelessly ignorant clown :)

So literally everything needs to be taken with a grain of salt. This camera was SOOOO beta it was ridiculous. Totally a prototype...not even a demo unit. The camera got hot after shooting with it but never overheated. No idea on recording times...never ran into a cutoff but we didnt run it past 5 minutes to save on file size. No IBIS or stabilization to come that I know of....

Did a bit of redesign this week, got two pieces cut on the waterjet for testing purposes. I changed the design of the ssd holder it now sits beneath the smallrig 15mm rails surprisingly my measurements were rather accurate and all i had to do was a little sanding to made things slide together. if i had to do it again i'd made things 0 .1 mm bigger for some wiggle room. The alloy clamp required the most time, broke out the dremel for that. The alloy holder clamp is a bit tall at the moment, i made it that way as i was guessing abit at the time. The last two pics are a bit of a mock up at the moment. i actually have the original clamp holder on the back at the moment. Not sure if i will get that machined to hold a step down ring or do something different. I am however happy that more progress has been made.

More and more I see evolution of m43 and comparative possibility of format especially for video/moviemaking, I am more firmly in bizarre opinion that in the future matter of question will be - does the FF mirrorless will be dead Big FF fish will eat each other market autistically looking at their Bokeh, desperately trying to catch speedy little m43 fish with sharp or cinematic teeth... Some simple advices for youtubers

    1. What makes you(tuber) think that I'm interesting to look at your face most of the time? If your video is about Something, make it to be about that Something, not about your narcissistic persona. 2. "Do not saw the air too much with your hand thus, but use all gently, for in the very torrent, tempest, and (as I may say) whirlwind of passion, you must acquire and beget a temperance that may give it smoothness." Shakespeare, Hamlet, Act III, Scene 2, 1603 AD. - So, tie your hands behind your back until you get used to not sawing the air. 3. If you must have some kind of opening, make it short. And do not let me wait for 30-60-90 seconds for actual start, go for It as soon as possible. 4. Also, do not put loud soundtrack that drums or screams into my ears. I'm not interested in your "musical" taste, nor I came to watch you video for that. Be polite. (And try not to use loud soundtrack in background that interferes with your voice and words.) Be articulate. 5. Do not bother me by asking to like or subscibe to your video)s). If they are interesting to me, then I'll do it. 6. Rehearse or make a plan beforehand, practice, that will make you more "pro" than any other gimmick. 7. Try to be economic with time. Do not waste yours, nor mine. Be short, precise and (and at least try to be) intelligent. Do not repeat yourself. 8. Find someone who would be critical but fair about your videos, and show them to him or to her, then listen. Four eyes could see more than two. Especially if you are trying to be innovative. 9. Don't just give to me your precious opinions. Give me the reasons why you think so-and-so, and then I'd accept your opinions (or I won't). 10. Go to the good museums, read clever books, watch classic movies. Your personal culture always needs improving.

To add to that, numerous people are attracted to dick-head personalities. Just a fact of humanity. Adults should know better (yet don't), but kids are particularly susceptible to aggressive earnestness, regardless if it's healthy earnestness. Any type of self-assuredness is viewed as a positive. Thus, many personalities that reach broad levels of success are not uplifting and positive, but degrading. This is not a YT specific issue. This is an issue with what it means to struggle to be a good person in general. To point out this theory in practice, I'll not post, but mention this: That YT Paul asshole kid had the asshole crackpot adult from InfoWars on his channel recently. A perfect storm of brash stupidity that makes life on this planet slightly worse for happening. Now, a few special people can transcend this "be a dick for attention" scenario and have charisma that's compelling yet compassionate. It's much harder to do. The sad reality is evil is alluring.

The XC has a brilliant design. It is a mini C100. The old handycam design is what it is obsolete in my mind. I really loved the JVC LS300 but I didn't like the form factor. The C100 is amazing hand held. I would kill one of you, to have a P4K with the XC form factor! Have you ever seen a FS5?? The problem with the XC, and everything that Canon sells, was the price obviously. It was way overpriced! Imagine what a hit a 4K C100mkiii could have been with the right price, but no. Canon put a raw lite there and the codecs of the hypothetical C100mkIII, called it C200, amd priced it to compete against the FS7mkII!! Great strategy..

@webrunner5 - I agree, there is something special about 16mm. I think that you can make a great argument that there is something special about every focal length, because in the hands of the masters all are capable of beauty and wonder. I've chosen 16mm, 35mm, and 80mm lengths, but @mercer makes a very strong case for 28mm, and if @BTM_Pix wasn't trying to make every app and gadget not yet on the market I suspect he could make a strong case for basically every other length! You've inspired me to have another look through some footage from our trip through Asia last year and post some stills. Not that I'm anything even in the same universe as a master, but I've managed to luck my way into some nice shots, proving that it's more about what you put in front of the lens than the operator. These are ungraded, apart from some quick WB and contrast, and GH5 10-bit HLG. 16mm equivalent (SLR Magic 8mm f4): I love it because it's wide, but also because it distorts things so things look grander (like the first shot), but you have to be careful not to over-do it: 35mm equivalent (Voigtlander 17.5mm f0.95): I especially like the 35mm for environmental portraits, and having a fast aperture allows great low light performance as well as subject isolation. I also took a 116mm equivalent lens on that trip (58mm Helios) but have since changed my longest length to an 80mm equivalent (Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8) because 116mm was a bit too far from the 35mm equivalent of the Voigt. 116mm equivalent (Helios 58mm f2): I find the large aperture is useful for low-light, but also for getting shots through glass and defocusing the marks on the window sufficiently (the scooter shot was through a bus window). I'd only contemplate going back if I could only have one lens... fortunately that isn't the case! 😎😎😎

Yep, all of this. It doesn't mean actual robots will film weddings. It means AI will seep into the industry and have a trickle down effect. An accelerated version of what's already happened with cheap hardware and saturated talent. I'm 34, but I've been on forums like these long enough to learn about what the generation prior to mine were able to charge. The rates for basic talking head clips blew my mind! But you could do it, back in the day. And frankly, the quality was trash. A lot of those folks washed out because they could no longer command the same rates as the younger crowd, and they got blown out of the water by people with actual artistic sensibilities. You have to stay ahead of this game, or it will eat you up. And hell yes weddings are formulaic. The videos, the photos, everything. Anyone saying otherwise is full of shit. I've produced enough of em'. I've seen enough from people all over Canada and the US. Slow motion walking through the trees and kissing to some goddamn Tony Anderson song. Seen it, x1000. AI can and will whip those up, and weekend warriors will undercut, and people WILL laugh at the old rates, cause they don't have to pay them. The wedding industry preys on the idea that weddings are expensive, and people should expect to pay alot. Photo/video has benefited from this for years.

That may be the case, but know what? Most likely they won't announce any new APS-C lens to accompany it. In 3-years time they released 3 APS-C bodies and only one lens meant for them (18-135/3.5-5.6 so I'm not even sure we can count it).. If it wasn't for Sigma, all the a6000s wouldn't be that popular.

Eh, I've shot a ton of weddings across many different cultures. Weddings more than anything have taught me how boring we are. The music choices between every couple overlap 85% of the time. I feel like I could copy+paste half the speeches from one wedding to another. Father-daughter / mother son dances all seem to have people picking the same 4 songs. Don't even get me started on all the cute 'marriage jokes'. I feel like a 10th grade computer science student could write this one. How hard could it be? 80,000 threads talking about whether something is cinematic or not. *insert brand here* sucks and is great. Something about motion cadence and companies intentionally crippling codecs. Done! I really think there's a fallacy at work here. The lack of trust in the development in AI is because we want to think we are more unique and interesting than we truly are. I actually hope I'm wrong about all of this, but I doubt it.

How Can I Be A Young Director?

Use whatever you have, shoot edit and publish, then do it again.. and again.. Almost every successful YouTuber has early videos that are awful (they may have deleted them but they were there) and every successful Hollywood film director has a box of awkward short films somewhere. You get better by making films, not talking about equipment on forums.

I bought the camera for $2250 with free battery, battery grip and 3 year warranty. I'm selling the grip so it's $2000 camera for me. I really think it's the best camera I've ever owned. I had Canon 6D, 5D IV, EOS R and tried various camera Sony A7III, A9, A7RIII. I primarily use it for still photography. Beautiful EVF, ergonomic, great IBIS, and no banding. The AF is really good for still and the inclusion of eyeAF is much better than Canon EOS R but still no match for Sony. It also track animals. It has alot of little things I like - quick toggle for AF-C/AF-S/Manual, quick lever for silent shutter, manual focus magnification, backlit buttons, focus bracketing, and custom modes. This might be the first camera where I can set the setting for each scenarios I commonly shoot with - timelapse, portrait, landscape, etc. This is so great to have! This does not have the best AF compare to Sony but it's more than usable as is for me. EyeAF is much better than Canon EOS R. I'm sure it will get further improvement. I considered all of Nikon, Sony, and Canon offering. I ended up with Panasonic S1 based on my priority and needs - dual card slot, great EVF, good sensor, IBIS, ergonomic. Here is a AF test done between Sony A7III vs Panasonic S1 Also, I just find out ISO 50 is a true ISO. https://www.l-rumors.com/diggloyd-panasonic-s1r-has-true-iso-50-not-a-faux-iso-kudos-to-panasonic/ This is pretty amazing for increase dynamic range.

Libel for what? If it is your honest opinion that someone is a cockwomble (for example ) then that's an acceptable defence. In any case, for a company to sue for libel they need to show it is likely to cause serious harm in respect of serious financial loss. I would suggest that the fact that the link between Amazon and that site isn't particularly widely displayed on DPReview (to the extent that its questionable how many of its users are even aware of it) would make it difficult to show cause for serious financial loss to Amazon. https://www.carter-ruck.com/media-law-defamation-libel-and-privacy-lawyers/libel-and-slander-faq By the way, I imagine YOU on the other hand CAN show that THEIR hosting of links for illegally obtaining YOUR products DO cause serious financial harm.

Honestly, I look at that and think, "It looks very nice and well crafted... and he would shoot something incredibly similar on just about any camera these days." Even more honestly, an old 5DII has more visual character in what it produces than what this does. But I like like soft and imperfect images, especially for something romantic and purposefully dreamy like a wedding. Then again, that's me. I suppose I have my own style. Who really knows with this stuff? The couple may have seen his reel and love the clinical and high-res look of his previous videos. Still, what are directors of these sorts of productions exactly reaching for? Shooting a compelling film or using expensive and cool gear? I'd like to shoot on medium format too just for the fun factor of playing with neat-o technical stuff, but the more important question comes down to, what actually works and looks best? If I'm being really nit-picky, I'd say that many of the shots are stagey and the couple don't look wholly relaxed. Now, is that a factor of their personalities? --or are they a little awkward because this guy was doing a bunch of gear rigging for his Hasselblad shots? Is he demanding precision for his scene direction? Is he missing a chance to put his couple at ease by prioritizing his gear selection and his image creation? What's happening on the other side of that lens? You know, having a good relaxed relationship with your subjects is so exponentially more important than equipment. Anyway, I'm off on my typical "gear-not-so-important" rant again. At the end of the day, the new IQ era we're in is great. I'll shut up now.

I'm in the same age bracket. Great mind think alike ha! Years ago you can make a career just by taking decent SOOC exposure from film. With the invention of DSLR, taking decent SOOC isn't enough. Recent tech even make things even more easier now with eyeAF tracking, and EVF allowing WYSIYG. Now we have animal tracking. Alot of niche of photography are very difficult to make money now as a career that was once a viable career (journalist, magazine photographer). Technology won't replace cream of the crop photographer/videographer with good marketing, but it does enough damage to low and midtier market where most of the clients are. None of the stuff I've seen are that impressive for me to be so naive it can't be imitate or duplicate by sophicate AI software, basic human operator, readily available quality education, and affordable gears.

Ditto the Sigma ART 30mm f1.4 as that came free with SD so to get it onto the Leica for £60 will be a real result but I just don't know yet whether this incompatibility is a forever thing.
