  1. Hello everybody, I just made a free iPhone app to apply some cine looks on photos, inspired by 35mm film prints renders. The app is named GAMMA 35mm : https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gamma-35mm/id1071684697?l=fr&ls=1&mt=8 The filters are inspired by real film prints, like the Kodak Ektar 100, Kodachrome 64 or Lomography CN 100 or Kodak Vision3. Inspired only, not the exact emulation. GAMMA is fresh, published only few days ago, and completely free without annoying ad. In future updates I'll create more filters and improve the existing ones. Feel free to post photos on Instagram with the hashtag #gamma35mm. Feedback and suggestions appreciated

  3. Theres a post here on page 6-8 (cant remember) where theres a full tutorial on how to get a similar look to this one, for these, I just changed the curves to make the image flatter, when I get home I can share full settings !

  4. Hopefully similar to the BMPC4K. Which is down sampled in camera in such a way that it pretty much beats 4K downscaled in the NLE. And it also looks pretty much identical identical to 4K when up scaled again. In other words you can save a ton of SSD storage and make editing faster with the same end result as 4K. On the BMPC the HD has no loss in DR, less noise (smaller) and a bit sharper.

  5. Yes I hope they keep on announcing cameras then shipping then six months later over the other option of not announcing them at all! Looking forward to whatever crazy new cameras they announce at NAB 2016 that I wouldn't have even thought of before!

  6. RX10 classic maybe? They're getting pretty cheap on eBay.

  7. That is correct there has been no GS footage on any of the switchable rolling shutter cameras, apparently the beta firmware doesn't even have an option for it.

  8. Honestly, that's like trying to multiply with zero. If video ever works well in a fuji camera I'm convinced it will be by accident.

    Lenses

I know you love it, as you should... It's a great camera. And I think your findings are probably right on... With that much resolution, modern lenses are probably more suited to the sensor. Honestly, I think the NX users should be thanking you for all the tests you're performing and for sharing the results. From my experiences with the NX500, it seems like the NX line of lenses affords the best results... If you want a very clean, clinical look... I don't own an NX lens, but from what I have seen of them, in comparison with what I have tested with my vintage lenses. The Sigma 18-35, that Ricardo tested, looks beautiful. It's clean and sharp, yet still has some character. The good thing about your current lens line up or your current options are they all are cross platform lenses. These lenses will work with any future camera purchase... Unless you go to Nikon or Canon in the future, then you will lose adaptability with your FD lenses. So, if you want to upgrade to the Zeiss or Sigma, selling off the FDs is smarter than selling the Nikkors. Also keep in mind that a lot of people use the Sigma lenses, so the Zeiss may make more sense to differentiate yourself. But you have such a great set of FD lenses that it may make more sense to sell the NX1 and move to Blackmagic. Zak Forsman recently stated in a post on another topic that he couldn't be happier using Raw instead of chasing resolution... I'm paraphrasing. As you know, the lenses can last for decades, where the camera will only last a couple years... Give or take.

    NX1: 240fps?!?

I'd also like less (or even better: no) nr in video at any iso.

  12. No, my bad... Major brain fart. I think I want 60p GS, so I read what I wanted from your comment.

  13. Hello Ed, Congrats for getting the F65, can we expect a write up on it one day? It's not like I will have the cash to get one in the next 25 years, but I always enjoy reading about cameras I don't really know yet. Have fun shooting!

  14. The Ursa Mini 4.6k could be an absolute stormer of a camera. The pleasing colours and detail is not only a winner for narrative & music videos, but corporate clients will love it. They ALWAYS ask for "crisp" imagery with nice colours, something I find difficult on a Sony. I hope they improve the 120fps cropped mode, so far it doesn't look too great...but who knows eh?

  15. Perhaps really better wait a bit and get a 32" TV instead of a 27" monitor. Seeing how all that new stuff with 10Bit color comes out just now, prices will probably adjust downwards rapidly in 2016-2017. I've considered getting another screen via Decklink card for Davinci Resolve (because their multi screen functionality is bad for "home users") but seeing how all the new Samsung SUHD and what the new TVs with 10bit panels, HDR functions, etc. are called are just only coming out I've decided to probably postpone by a year. I'm using a 27" Dell U2711 Ultrasharp as my GUI monitor (2560x1440 pixel IPS-panel, wide gamut, calibrated) and have to agree, if the resolution would be 4k I'd want probably more than 27".

  16. The Dell P2715Q 27" Ultra HD 4K Monitor is a nice monitor. 99% RGB, 10 bit IPS panel with a matte finish screen. I got one on eBay for $375 used as they have been out a while. They sell for about $499 new. Anyways, I am very happy with the way it reproduces color. 27" is a little small for reading the text in Resolve when running the monitor at 4k - doable but not always easy especially at the end of an editing session. With Premier it was easier to read the menus. If you can get a 30" with the features you want for your budget, I would stronghly consider it.

  17. I also think at least some parts are global shutter because it seems to me that he intentionally made some sudden movements with the camera to show it off.

  18. I think that the GM1 paired with the right lens does a pretty decent job:

  19. Lasted a week, then took 3 months for the camera to be delivered. Still the best £366 I ever spent though. Ha ha ha. Ha ha. Ha ha ha hahah ahah ah. Ha. It's only funny because it's true. [What's the emoticon for "Rocking gently in a dark corner in the foetal position"?]

  20. Its probably the sharpest f1.8 lens I've ever seen, even superior to F4 L glass from canon, for example. The only thing I didnt like was the weight (810 gr) and the focus ring is incredibly smooth, but heavy, compared to my samyang 24mm f1.4, which has the best focus ring i've ever tried, very very light and very very smooth. Still, this made me sell some of my gear, and get it asap, its really an amazing lens and when I have it, ill def. put up some more test images, I only tested it at night, so theres still much more to test.

  22. If you downsample the 4K to 1080 before you bring it into the nle, there shouldn't be an issue.

  23. Got to try the Sigma 18-35 yesterday, and I must say, what an amazing lens, incredibly sharp at 1.8, although a bit heavy and with a heavy focus/zoom ring, still an amazing lens. Not much was put into the grading, just something simple, to test the lens ! Also took a few pics, though I dont usually photograph, heres one..
