Yes but that is Prores raw with an external recorder which I absolutely hate.

Damn someone got a sweet deal on an A7S3!!
Haha yeah someone definitely profited from my stupidity. I really hope they’ll add some pro cine features via firmware down the line but I’m not holding my breath. The option to turn off noise reduction should have been there from the start though.

FX3 is growing on me, seems like a superb camera for stealthy run & gun.
For sure. I sold my barely used a7siii, at a 1k loss nonetheless, and preordered the more expensive FX3, planning to pair it with what looks like a superb compact zoom in the Sigma 28-70mm f2.8.
I’m daft and economically irresponsible like that, but there’s something appealing in the size and shape of the body of the FX3, the active cooling and what I hope and imagine is a little more robust build (I never liked the a7-bodies and I only care for evf:s when it comes to photography).

Oddly enough, the image coming from the X-T3 feels thicker, less processed (but I HATE the magenta shift in f-log and the skin smoothening effect, impossible to get rid of and never discussed !)
Sorry but what sort of skin smoothening effect are you talking about? I know the early x-trans sensors were prone to this, in jpeg, but I haven't seen it in my X-T3 and X-T4. Is this something that is commonly seen in f-log? At what ISO? Can you send pictures?
The magenta shift and overly sharpened images is what I feel are worse problems when it comes to Fujifilm video.

Though chances are slim, did anyone here buy a Z6ii and happen to know if the flickering issue is rectified with the second iteration?
-
@Sage Seems like I will be buying your LUT:s after all 🙂 With regards to Fuji, is there a pre to convert eterna footage like the one you've made for cine d?
-
@Attila Bakos I imagine the results aren't as accurate as the Ghalex lut, but really cool if it speeds up multicam workflow in a meaningful way.
-
Would be interesting to know how Emotive Color stacks up against the new Cinematch plugin from the guys behind Filmconvert. From what I've seen it looks pretty promising...

It works fine with HEVC 4:2:2 10-bit (and other variants too) as a lot of iPad users have reported being able to easily play back footage in that format.
That’s actually a big misconception since 10bit 422 footage was actually transcoded on the iPad Pro when importing it to the app just until today, when Lumafusion 2.4 came out, with native support of 10bit h265 footage.

@Oliver Daniel I'm in the same position, struggling with ediiting the R5 h265 natively. But this dude seems to be suggesting FCPX is working fine with the new M1-chips.

Interesting. That particular workflow is a bit over my head, but the cineon conversion reminds me of the cinny LUT here:
Please don’t post that kind of horrible scam here. Juan Melara already proved it, but unfortunately he has taken the video down. He used to give away a better version of the “Linny LUT” for free.

Interesting thread! I am on the edge of what to do, whether to go and sell my EOS R and switch to Sony, or to get an R5.
My main takeaways from this thread is that overheating really is an issue that becomes annoying, sad. 😞
Does the R5 in lowq 4k video mode not overheat? I didn't know that and thought it applied to all 4k modes.
I would imagine the overheating is because they want to use the higher fram rate modes.
-
@Geoff CB Yeah, I totally agree - the output of that 8-bit file from the Z6 is nothing short of amazing, but I still got rid of my camera because of the viewfinder delay in 4k and the lack of exposure tools. The weird flickering in the shadows when shooting 10-bit N-log is also a problem they still haven't fixed. But if the Z6ii manages to sort all of these things I might get it.

"I got less time on S35 in 4K50P than FF 4K50p (20min vs 30min), FF 4K50p/60p is not oversampled."
@ntblowz I was thinking about s35 24/25p, which doesn't overheat.
-
From all the testing I’ve seen on YouTube (which is a lot) the R5’s oversampled aps-c mode in 4K is very good indeed, and doesn’t seem to overheat. This should also be something worth considering with regards to the R5, especially if you tend to shoot on longer lenses.
Unfortunately my R5 is yet to be delivered but I feel this crop mode might turn out to be the mode I’ll use the most.
-
Canon’s appalling behavior with regards to the customer not withstanding, can anybody say something about the oversampled s35 crop mode of the R5?
Does it truly not overheat? How’s the rolling shutter performance? And is the low light better than the 4K binned/line skipped mess? -
If Olympus could somehow implement 10bit internal, cap the bitrate at 200mbps and fix the annoying 4gb split files I would purchase the E-m1iii in a heartbeat.

Pay close attention to the way the sun and the surrounding clouds were blown out,
In the behind the scenes video also published today Brandon Li specifically states he shot the whole project in the standard picture profile - hence not the greatest display of the camera's dynamic range capabilities.

Thank you for your concern but I’ve managed to make the 8bit s-log from previous Sonys look just fine in DaVinci so I’m not really worried. If you can’t get a decent image out of the a7siii I don’t think the camera is to blame.
I suggest you get an Alexa LF and be done with it.

Word. I’m buying this camera for sure. And I agree we need to see more testing with regards to overheating: what cards are they using, temperature outside, codec (I hear the h265 runs hotter) and so on. But I’m confident it will run just fine at 4K 24p All-I.

@Django Does the R6 have the nice 1.3x crop as well, with less rolling shutter?
