You, good sir, are solely responsible for me picking up a used E-M1 MK II about two weeks ago (despite the fact that I already have an S1, and S5, a Sony a6500, a6000, a5100 and a deceased a6300).

As for an upgrade, I just wish there was more flexibility in their video options in terms of having their wonderful C4K at 23.976fps (my understanding is it is at true 24fps, and not at 23.976fps), and C4K at 29.97fps. Not sure why the C4K is so much better than the UHD 4K either.

That's awesome man! They are great cameras but they aren't for everyone. You have to work with its limitations for sure. I really love using it for casual shooting and pictures of the kids... but when I was at Indy Mogul, we used it as the A cam for many of the shoots I was a part of!

  2. couldn't agree more about the EM1X. I still use my EM1 mkii and mkiii every week. Don't see myself switching to anything anytime soon either. I really hope Olympus will have something great again soon to upgrade this.

  3. Bringing life back to this thread. I use my mkiii daily. It’s my primary camera. Love it for hybrid shooting with those f1.2 primes. Still haven’t tried the new prores raw feature. Really incredible they added that.

im just a bit scared for the future of the company. I really hope to see a new camera with updated specs like better EVF and newer sensor this year. We’ll see if the new owners handle it well.

Got my email from B&H this morning and saw FedEx pick it up before lunch, I will have my A7S Mark III Friday 🙂   (of course, Friday is already taken with kids stuff, as is a good bit of this weekend, but I should be able to do something Friday and Sat just by cutting out sleep, ha; that camera can shoot in the dark anyway right, lol)...

Also, have version 10.54 firmware locked and loaded on my Ninja V.  ready to go.  I'm most interested to see the 16bit RAW linear to 12bit ProRes RAW results compared to the best internal codec.  I'm REALLY hoping that magenta cast is gone in the RAW.  I am terrible at removing magenta without affecting skin tones, so I usually can't touch it much.  Also curious to see if the SSD's I've got will handle the sustained write speed.  From my calculations it will, but we shall see.

Can't wait to see how that reduced rolling shutter looks on my motion controllers (I have Edelkrone's JibONE, SliderONE, Dual HeadONE, and SliderPLUS v5 Long).

let me know your thoughts! i found after making the vid that the magenta issues are more or less solved if you shoot slog2 instead

  5. I still have an em1mkiii and the three Pro prime lenses. It’s a buggy camera and I’ve had issues with it locking up on me. I’ve stopped using it for that reason. Hopefully firmware will solve those issues. I think Panasonic made a bad move going to full frame. They should have just embraced m43 and dominated the space and that in turn would help boost Olympus. With cameras like the XT3 being only $999 now I don’t see a point in the Oly anymore. The ibis and colors are great but low light is bad and video features are lackluster. Maybe we will see some firmware updates that will add more video features... but for the price... I don’t see why anyone would go for the EM1 anymore. Not to mention the EM1X. That camera is way too expensive.

I don’t know... just my thoughts. Loved Olympus for a while. Still love them... but it’s starting to seem a little outdated at this point.

Don't want to sound like a dick but what's with the picture covers on youtube? Everybody does the same thing. Funny face and the product smashed in front of it. Is there an agreement on this or just an established trend?

lol no offense taken. I understand. I’ve texted this myself and statistically I get higher click through rate when my face is on the thumbnail as well as when there is a more intense expression. It doesnt translate well here because the image is so large... but on a youtube home feed it can help make your video stand out.

It works.  I hate it and I refuse to click on baity videos, I can't stand it.

I'll have to check this mic out, sounds interesting.  I love my ride video micro, sounds so good for what it is.

Correct it works. I’m sorry you hate it. YouTube is filled with a bunch of adhd tweens who just click on the first shiny thing they see.

Nice idea. Was just about to buy a Rode Videomicro but this looks an even better option for 30€ more.

Ya it really is. It gives you a lot of extra flexibility for a marginal difference in price.

  7. I actually helped develop this mic over a year ago when I had a meeting with Andrew from Deity. I was sharing how I really hated how muffled audio sounded when talking behind camera for vlogs. I wanted a solution and they delivered. Not only does the mic have two mics on it... but you get an input that allows for a lav or other audio source to feed into your camera or recorder. The Rode Wireless GO is perfect for it and can clip right onto the Rycote mount.

Just wanted to share these vids with you guys. Jeven and I are the only people who have posted hands on reviews so far... IDK if we are the only ones who got them or what... but this $89 mic is well worth the $$ in my opinion.

Interesting that Dave makes so little relative to his channel size. My channel brought in close to $60k in straight ad revenue last year and I just broke 100,000 subscribers. I have a broadcast syndication agent, whom I’ve worked with for years (any viewers from the Ignition network in S. Africa here? Lol.) But I wouldn’t even consider one for brand deals.

Edit: looked at Kinotika’s (Dave’s) stats and it probably comes down to watch time. I had about 50,000,000 minutes of watch time in 2019. Based on his public numbers his channel watch time was probably a lot lower. (Reminder: subscribers are only one metric, and aren’t the only gauge of a channels reach.)

    ya exactly. watch time.

I'd take a wild guess and bet his agent has a few other guys on his books as well? So his costs are even lower

yup. my agent goes to square space and says: “i got 10 guys who all will work with you for $X” and then he splits that money up to all of us depending on our size

  9. i'm gonna upgrade to it from my em1 mkii for that joy stick lol. i love the camera. its just a good tool that i enjoy...especially for family photos and videos.

HOWEVER... i am SOOO dissapointed here. Was hoping to at least see 4k 60fps!!! idk whats going on. so stupid. nobody will buy this except olympus enthusiasts. it should really be called the EM1 mk2.5

If you didn't have an agent, how much do you think that would impact the brand deals you could land yourself?

    Wow, that is almost nothing!
(for a channel as good/big as yours that is)

ya if i didn’t have an agent by now i’d be looking for one. almost everyone has one at higher levels.

i share an agent with kai w, jarad poland, gerald undone, and jeven dovey for example.

I personally know people with over 2 million subs and they're definitely not rich or anywhere close to being rich.

There are a lot more variables at play. The type of content you make, who watches it, etc. plays a huge role. My friends that have hundreds of thousands of subscribers but deal with pro wrestling content don't get much at all since YouTube allowed advertisers more control over what videos they advertise on and most passed on advertising on wrestling related content.

absolutely. running a youtube channel isn’t about the channel itself. it’s about the other streams of income you make to pay for everything else. again... brand deals are where it’s at. i only make around $900 a month off ad revenue for example. the rest of my money is from all the other things like affiliate and brand deals

true or false: regardless of ones subscriber count, this is all predicated on ppl posting videos constantly, ever day or close to it

it’s a combination of subs, views, comments, audience engagement that led to getting an agent who lands the brand deals. that’s the majority of my income. half of it is through sponsorships. the rest is all related to ad rev and affiliate
