I've started calling it the P4K after I saw someone use it. BMPCC was already kind of ridiculous, but BMPCC4K went straight to plaid.
    P4K-422 sounds like a Stargate SG-1 destination.

Downsample from full sensor width, but I'm betting the 120fps HFR is the one that is windowed. So, 60fps limit for downsample version, which will look very sweet.

They seemed to have really done the engineering right. Fuji says they have dual processors just for IBIS:
"A three-axis accelerometer, a three-axis gyro sensor and a dedicated dual processor work together to carry out processing and correction approximately 10,000 times every second to achieve image stabilization performance with advanced speed and precision"
    Plus the new shutter:
"The top plate of the FUJIFILM X-H1's shutter unit is equipped with suspension for absorbing delicate shock generated by the operation of the mechanical shutter. This minimizes camera shake risks to maximize the effect of image stabilization. The mechanism reduces shutter noise to the lowest level in the history of X Series"
So far it looks better than Sony, but not quite Olympus. Will be interesting to see side-by-side comparisons.

I would guess probably not, the grip doesn't add another 70mm in height, or 857g, or make it any wider, or make it thicker.

So. Extra video crop, no headphone jack and 15 minute record limit. For being targeted at video shooters they sure has a funny way of showing it.
I’ll start hyping the X-T3 instead

tyger11 reacted to Robert Collins in NX2 rumors
Hmmm... rereading the rumor - it does appear to be in two parts. Part one, is that Samsung has designed/made a very high end (mirrorless) apsc image sensor. A lot of impressive detail in this part of the rumor. Part 2 of the rumor is speculation that this image sensor is going to be utilised in a resurrected NX2 (which sounds pretty unlikely.)
But just because NX2 resurrection is a non-starter doesnt mean that they are not developing the sensor. Why should Samsung leave the high end image sensor market up to Sony especially as they know that Nikon and Canon dont particularly like sourcing from one of their competitors (Canon uses Sony's 1 inch sensor.) Canon and Nikon would be bonkers not to put this tech and this sort of sensor into their mirrorless offerings. And quite frankly from Samsung's perspective, these sensors in Canikon bodies will show off their smartphone 'image sensor' tech far more than any fleeting interest in an NX2.

The problem then was - and still would be - the lens selection. Unless you go with adapted lenses, there were hardly any lenses that matched the quality of the camera itself. If they could do this with a different already-existing mount (E-mount, if they could get permission), or Sigma's mount, that would allay a lot of fears. Leaving the market so early was immense hubris, and if they want to try again, they're going to have to overcome that fear.

tyger11 reacted to Don Kotlos in Panasonic seems to be announcing something "BIG" on December 15
The per pixel dynamic range is defined as the log of the ratio of the maximum signal (until saturation) to the total noise (Shot noise + dark noise):

The signal which is the number of photons is proportional to the pixel area, whereas the shot noise is proportional to the square root of the number of photons.

That is why the signal-to-noise ratio, and the dynamic range, changes with pixel size - the larger the pixels, the higher their dynamic range (everything else being equal of course).
Now the dynamic range of the whole sensor can also depend on other things. For example one potential chip that could be in the GH5s can change the integration times between nearby pixels:

Yes, raw can be compressed, absolutely nothing strange about that.
And just like with stills you have lossless or lossy compression.
Lossless: No information lost, kinda like winzip to make it easier (even tough its not exactly like that).
Lossy/visually lossless: Where some information is lost but nothing that a couple of eyes could ever spot.
Uncompressed raw: Not very common, I can only think of the 5Dmkiii, the 2.5K BMCC if it has the original firmware or the Digital Bolex. Might of course be others but those are the three I know.
Seems some would like to know they ins and outs about raw, this article is pretty in depth: http://www.hdvideopro.com/columns/help-desk/formats-explained/#

Nothing will 'force' Canon to get their act together. Canon is the Donald Trump of camera makers. It's the greatest, and if you don't agree, you're a loser. You'll buy what they make and you'll like it, too.

I think the most forgettable upgrades have been to the Rebel series actually... they make the 80D look like a quantum leap!
    600D through 650D, 700D, was embarrassing.
It looked like the only feature they added was lower manufacturing cost and at one point a grip material that turned white.
Yet the sheep kept buying I assume.

Unfortunately not quite D5300 / GH3 good. Canon's new APS-C sensor doesn't have the moire & aliasing control of the former or the resolution / sharpness of the latter.
D5500 even better as it has the lovely flat profile and newer sensor, very very clean in the shadows.
Canon continue to disappoint - the 80D is basically a non-event, when it could have been a game changer.

The lack of touch screen is unforgiveable.
For all the people that moan that pros don't need a touch screen in models like the A7 and RX series, seeing Dan Chung's News Shooter touch screen demo clearly illustrates the focus pulling-like capabilities a touch screen offers.
What's the point of having state-of-the-art PDAF without having easy access to focus point selection?
