I will do another grade pass and also try to make an hdr export for youtube.
-
Filmed on S1 with v-log at 4k 60p on Ninja v.
Graded with filmconvert fuji stock.I'm still trying out grades, I may end up using another grade because Im not sure about the green colors of the grass. what do you think?

I have a 256 gb Sandisk extreme pro 90mb
Its not the fastest Sd card but it does the job and its cheaper than the faster ones.
I will get faster card for photos but for video its not needed.
sounds strange maybe but photos in raw+jpg fine can take a while to load from the sd card and to display for preview.
Video is no issue.

Poorly. F-Log curve is like SLOG2 on Sony's +1EV (check lutcalc).
V-LOG curve on the other hand is like SLOG3/LogC/Cineon curve.
F-Gamut naturally shifts to green which should be corrected with gamut mapping in post.
V-Gamut do not shifts to magenta or green.
So technically this "use FLOG to Eterna" Filmconvert simulation on VLOG is a creative choice of grading nothing more.
I did not use Flog to eterna, I used the varicam preset with vlog in filmconvert.

@Lars: did you see a difference when getting nr to -5?
Also would be -5 for sharpening better in terms of in camera sharpening?
Most people on the gh5(s) hat nc -5 an sharpening -5
When using vlog there is no minus, it starts from 0 and goes to 10
So you can compare my settings with -5

Thank your Lars ! If it is not too much to ask, can you deliver you first impressions about the S1 ?
Sure, Its a great camera.
Plus points, footage looks very organic with vlog.
10 Bit is so nice for grading.
Dynamic range is awesome
Ibis is awesomeAutofocus Is good enough for stills for me
For filming I use mostly manual lenses.
And I love the 96 megapixel pixel shift mode, those shots are so clean, no noise. There are a only few things I miss compared to my Canon 5d3 with raw.
1- On the canon I could crank up the sharpness to the max for in camera for monitoring only, and because it was raw the sharpening is not baked in the footage. I wish Panasonic will add this to firmware. ( Edge sharping for preview only )
2. I cannot zoom into the footage while recording, only before pressing record can I zoom in. Again firmware request
3. There is no record trigger for the Ninja. also firmware request
Besides those points I love the camera.

I'm in the Netherlands, they send it to me after I send in my invoice last week. very fast turnaround. ( and yes it was free, thank you Panasonic)

Most likely at IBC in September we will hear more about the raw update for the z6
I do hope Panasonic will also add Raw to the S1

I'm seriously thinking about ditching laptops (macbook pros) for a latest iPad with iPadOS. Since they added external file folder support and external drive support with a proper USB-C port.
Can now just plug in a Samsung T5 drive and preview or even edit a video with lumafusion. It can handle 200Mbps HEVC files from the X-T3 without dropped frames whatsoever. This is so much better than a 15 macbook pro.
Yes its nice, and with ios13 you can use a mouse too.
so add a mouse and keyboard and you have a nice portable editing station.

I sold my Canon mk3 with Magic lantern 14 bits raw, that was working great, to get this camera.
My main reasons to upgrade to the S1 are better lowlight, IBIS and 10 bit Vlog.
I'm hoping the vlog workflow will be easier on storage than my previous raw workflow.
I just have to remember to nail the white balance. that was never an issue with raw.
It seems like my choice is paying off. Will get firmware key next week. Looking forward to any more footage.

S1 Anyone?

Curiously the 25p and 30p are at 150mbps, and yet, the 24p is limited to 100mbps (all at h.264). Not sure what Panasonic is upto, but this is not terribly inspiring, as a company policy.
Its 150 mbps at 24 4k too
Look in the video screenshots

does the Pocket 4K have the ability to swap firmware versions between new and old or can it only go one way and once you lose CDNG can you never get it back?
On your camera you can switch back to the old firmware
On newer models that came with the BRAW installed you cannot switch back.

Well I am sort of out of the loop now as they say, but I have talked to a few people in the local TV industry as of late and for Broadcast they have not given up on ENG cameras. Now they have went to some smaller ones, by that like 12, to 14 pound ones instead of the old 20, to 22 pound ones. I think a lot of it is better, lighter batteries for one, and miniaturization of electronic components. Now that is for 2 person interviews. The typical cameraman and a reporter with a mike in hand. On the solo reporting, getting more common, only have to pay one person, they have went to the really small camcorders, Sony JVC, Panasonic all make them, they are called ENG but they are not shoulder mount useful, tripod or hand held mostly. using 3, 1/3 CCDs in them, some maybe 1/2" and they are like 6 to 8 pounds, and cost like 4 to 8 thousand dollars.
At local Pro sporting events around here, Baseball, Football, Soccer they are using the smaller ENG cameras, on field and off, and on the side lines they, the teams, use the small camcorders mostly. At all the big name sports stuff they still use the huge ENG camera bodies with Box 75x or better lenses on them.
Broadcast Has to use the 3 CCD sensor cameras to get true 3 color separation, 4.4.4.4 is critical for all the equipment to be close to as perfect as they can get them. You don't want people to see different colors day to day and think their TV is screwy lol. And you don't want the reporters and news crew to look like aliens either. I just don't see 3 CCD cameras going away anytime soon in Broadcast. Now true some, well a lot lately are smaller sensors now, but 3 of them none the less.
But I have heard of some Newspaper reporters now using Smartphones here in the USA. But they don't requires the resolution in a newspaper spread like a TV station needs. But it probably is coming down the road. Smartphones are advancing at a rapid pace. Faster than real cameras are.
Nobody will think the tv is screwed when they are watching from day to day, because they have no memory reference from the day before. most people are not even aware of the difference between hdr and sdr without comparing them side by side.

There are two downsides for the 6k mode
only 30p no 25 as andrew mentioned
and the other is no HDMI out during 6k recording

Umm. I need a TSDU version, I think. (Too Stupid Didn't Understand) Did something change in the new Resolve 16b3?
For me the use case is F-LOG on internal storage with h.265 in Resolve, which is I guess will be the use case for the majority of us interested parties in the dum-dum crowd.
yes something did change in the latest resolve b3, check the release notes and it mentions fuji files
