Verdict is if you film a lot in direct sun and live in Florida buy an S1H. If you only record 35 minutes per shoot get a R5 or R6 LOL

It's not bad at all, actually it's the best camera i've ever had for video besides dedicated professional video cameras, i just sometimes would love to have a better video AF.
I mean, when I see the latest iterations of the Sony and Canon mirrorless, it makes me even more confident that the S1H is a great and reliable camera! Still sometimes i'd love to have some reliable AF in video. And better lens options, but this will come.
For now i'm just a distant observant. My S1H serves me well.

    This!
Why are people so desperate to turn their gear over so quickly when the tool they have is perfectly fine?
I was seriously considering the A7SIII as a B-Cam for the many shoots I do on the FX9 which until now, I have used a Pocket4K for.
I haven't read anything other than what's on this thread until know but this camera overheats as well? Really?
So, Sony spend three years on this camera making it a video powerhouse and they confine it to a mirrorless body that overheats? Crazy!
I don't know about anyone else here, but I almost never shoot in the rain and when I do, it's easy for me to fashion up a little plastic rain cover over my Pocket4k, FX9, or whatever other camera I'm using.... I do however, shoot in sun and warm temperatures especially when shooting sports stories. I'll take a few ventilation ports and even a small fan over a tiny weather sealed mirrorless body any day of the week, any season of the year!! I can see when it's going to rain and prepare for it, I can't constantly try to keep a camera from overheating when I'm shooting outside.
Also, I'f you are using a small external monitor, they are not weather sealed anyway so what's the point for us video shooters?
So, I guess I'll stick to the Pocket4K for now. None of the producers I work for seem to have any issues with the colour difference between the FX9 and P4k........no reason to change.

Seems like the cooling system puts the heat on the body so if there is a direct sun that warms it is not able to cool it down. This would explain why is not the temperature but the sun playing a role....

    Winner winner chicken dinner.

It sounds like this camera has more traditional overheating problems, such as when in direct sun.

The odd thing about the Canon is it seems to overheat at the exact same time regardless of direct sun or indoors.

Sony needs to get rid of the low light NR though. Thats a killer.

Perhaps a car analogy along the lines of this is pertinent: If you put a 16 cylinder engine in a mini- be grateful you can go 300 MPH but crash and burn? But no-one else is doing it so its innovation?! It's ok because if you only press the accelerator 10% you won't crash. Theres really no point. You either have a bigger car for the engine or you put a smaller engine in the car. Or perhaps technology hasn't got to a point yet where the heat generation is low enough to design it the way Canon have- either way they knew what they were doing.

They definitely did. Probably came closest so far in terms of hybrids. Decent stills for sure. Canon blew it this gen, Sony's move now. Nikon now an outside chance this round given Canon has now failed.

You're right about Nikon. But Panasonic gave us a lot more than we thought without protecting that much their cinema camera line of products (EVA-1 mainly) :
Varicam color science, 6K, 4k60 (cropped but hey at least it's in there), Full V-Log, best implementation of tiltable screen ever, internal fan to cool down the sensor and internal circuits, dual iso, one of the best IBIS, ProRes RAW, dual card slot, timecode, so many things that made it the first ever and the only mirrorless camera to fullfill the Netflix requierements (wether it means something or not I am not into this debate). I really think that of all the brands Panasonic has always been the one to push the envelope while the others are resting until they're kind of forced to innovate.
The only thing now for Panasonic is to change their damn autofocus system ! Otherwise they would be the king of the video centric mirrorless hill !

Yeah, it still blows my mind that Canon’s DPAF is genuinely their last bastion of defense. It really is undeniably good and unparalleled. The S1H hits every other possible mark, so if Panasonic aren’t singularly focused on implementing flawless AF at this point, they‘ll miss their window of opportunity to sweep the competition across the board.

They made a hybrid camera that received Netflix approval... It doesn’t get much more professionally demanding than that.
Even considering that, I’m suggesting my employer buy a couple C200s for our bread and butter cameras. Focus has such a fundamental impact on your image image, that it trumps a lot of other things.

I NEVER heard my fan start up in my S1H, it's that reliable. And I use it as my main camera everyday. I sometimes complain about the size of it, or the weight, oand most often the lack of good AF, but I rather have a big chunky camera  with an AF that's not as good as competitors, but still be able to shoot anytime and everytime I want, under any climatic conditions without having to bring some cooler to put the camera in every hour for 20mn.
    What a fucking joke !!

I'm kinda impressed that Canon managed to tout groundbreaking features only to unleash possibly their biggest Canon Cripple Hammer of all time, all at once.
2020 has been tumultuous, to say the least. There's a lot of uncertainty in the world right now, but one thing we can always depend on is Canon is gonna Canon. #Blessed

The S1H, I took it out at the height of a hot day, was shooting bursts (I always shoot bursts) and video for ages, but the fan didn’t even seem to come on
if you look at the size difference between the S1 line and the Canon and Sony models, I think that’s the main issue here, just The physics. Cramming Hot things into to tiny sealed bodies makes for poor ventilation.
i don’t know why the obsession with shrinking professional tools, for me it’s a lose lose, I prefer the larger ones in use and they don’t boil themselves.

I really want an R5 but the A7S3 is calling my name if it proves to be a more reliable tool with not too many caveats.
Canon need to partner up with Tilta and include that cooling system in the box or else there is going to be a lot of angry campers out there!

This camera is nearly $7000 AUD.  It makes no sense.  Hybrid cameras are the jack of all trades, you expect compromise somewhere.  But I notice my z6 now goes for $2K aud.
so I could get 2, plus a ninja, plus a full sound kit.  Or a D850 and a blackmagic pocket 6K. I dont think I could justify that sort of money simply for the convenience of having the one body.

I miss the S1 but I knew I would. I don't regret selling it - especially since I'm shooting like 1/8 my normal volume right now! The fact is that the S1 would never have the features I want long-term (AF and no-crop 4K60) so I would want to upgrade sooner or later. I have other cameras (fs7, gh5 +...) so it's not like i can't shoot. I'm hoping that the A7SIII does it for me and that i won't need to upgrade it for 5+ years. If not the A7SIII then maybe i will just keep waiting for the right camera to come along.

He said it was about 29°C approximately. But the most annoying thing is that he told even in 1080p he couldn't shoot most f the time and he had no info on when he could shoot again once it sopped recording. To me it's alarming. I can't tell my clients to wait a few minutes or even 10 minutes before shooting again because my tool is not reliable.
We'll see, cause maybe he had a faulty camera, but to me it seems to be dead on arrival (for professional filmmaking).

I saw the 2 hours long live video he made to present the Canon eos R5 (french only) and he told people who were asking him about the DR that he graded the footage extremely contrasty, because he likes it this way with big crushed blacks and the waveform scope completely extended so a lot of the information is gone. I personally don't like this grading and it may be worse after the youtube compression but he told that the DR is there and that there is info in the highlights as well as the shadows before he did his extreme grading.
