Goofy, complex idea. I just think that this is very real and possibly marketing-driven: BM can no longer sell a 1080p camera, despite all its goodness and a better image than practically any other prosumer camera in the market, because buyers are obsessed with 4K. A renewed Pocket camera with only 1080p wouldn't have been marketable. The only pocketable 4K sensor that BM had so far is the 1", 4K, 4OO ISO, 12-stops sensor of the Micro Studio/URSA Broadcast. If it had a newer sensor, it could have been built into the URSA Broadcast that was just released two months ago. Very possibly, the situation hasn't changed from what BM stated in 2017, and no 14-stops 4K sensor that fits a small housing is available for them (yet). So a clunky solution with swappable sensor units, 1080p/14stops and 4K/12 stops, allows to sell this camera both as a Pocket Cinema camera, but with the 4K label. As said earlier, I hope that Monday will prove me wrong.
webrunner5 2,464
Well that sure as hell is not a normal looking camera that is for sure. Boy, only BM. It looks like a Barbie Cam that is Not pink! Well it is kind of Pink at the top.
deezid 519
Since my rant in the Blackmagic Facebook group about using the Sony IMX294 sensor used in the GH5s and a strong Lowpass filter may be a good thing in terms of Dynamic Range, Lowlight, battery etc. and still benefitting BM color science, broke out into a war I'm trying here again. What would you guys think? - Virtually no FPN - better battery life - Almost 14 stops of DR - great low light, ISO6400 should be fine without internal Temporal NR - low rolling shutter - none of the issues the GH5s is plagued with (strong overprocessing precisely and harsh red channel clipping) JordanWright

The sensor on that picture is too small to be a 4/3rds sensor like the Sony IMX294.

Also, the sensor is as tiny as ever, and the body looks like a flattened APS-C sizes camera squeezed under a hydraulic press. Now it's pocketable in purses, perhaps. Or huge jacket pockets. Maybe it’s your approach?

Everyday struggle with the GH5, not fixed in the GH5s either, actually worse. Nothing wrong with Panasonic EVA-1 tough beside the 8 bit limitation in 4k60p
jonpais 0
Funny, ‘cause I find the GH5 pure joy to work with.

I would have killed for that camera back in the day. And yeah, as expensive as it was we Would have had to kill somebody to buy it!
sanveer 838
If it does 4k 60p, is priced at $1499 or less, has many favlours of prores and has decent battery (1.5 hours), and decent preamps, it may actually eat into some of the market of other low budget film cameras (GH5?). What it will lack is IBIS, photo shooting (Hybrid camera talents(, super long battery life, dual card slows, battery grip options, decent low light (they may be able to push ISO to 1600 by improving processing), water resistence, excellebt LCD and EVF etc. Anything above $1500 may be hard to justify especially with average or bad battery life and bad sound/ preamps. I wish the next Blackmagic Pocket Camera has some kickass ecosystem (external sound, good 5 inch affordable monitor-cum-recorder, external batteries etc).

jonpais 0
The GH5 is a great camera, but we can discuss that in the appropriate thread.
