My cameras and kit

1. Finally put my GH3 through it's paces and I got my anamorphics too.  I shot the local teen group EMKE Hawaii live at Hard Rock Cafe Honolulu's 25th Anniversary celebration.  But to shoot all anamorphic, well you can call me crazy I guess.  Shooting dual focus is no joke, and I really had to change my thinking in terms of zooming and framing.  The videos below are from the middle of the set when I finally got a hang of it.  Well sort of, some shots are still soft.  I can say that I'm happy with the performance of the Sankor and Eiki 16D (pretty much the same lens).
2. https://vimeo.com/55892502   I posted this over in the screening room, but I wanted to show all the anamorphic guys and gals as well.    Lots of fun and really easy to make this one:)   Trey
3. Hello,   I've spent weeks researching, and I've decided to turn to some aficionados.   First up, Camera: I've found that the GH2 is the best price/performance camera. Is this still true today, or are there better ones, such as the Olympus E-M5? Or, would it be best to wait -- do you think there will be anything extraordinary worth waiting for in the first few months of 2013?   Lastly, Lens: I've seen some people use old TV SD 2/3" Lenses, like B4 and C-Mount, etc. Are these worth it? I've heard that (for the most part), the IQ isn't very good, and there's a large amount of work
4. My question is about mixing footage specifically from Sony to Panasonic (or secondly Canon) cameras. In my experience each company has a color profile, and within a brand cameras tend to match decently out of the box.   I am a Sony owner of an NX5U video camera and have had experience mixing footage with Canon videocameras and DSLRs.  The colors do not match perfectly,  but for my wedding clients it is passable.    Does anyone have knowledge of how well pana + sony might mix? I'm wondering specifically how well the Sony NX5U might match with a panasoinc GH2/3 (us

6. Hi, All! This is just some of my "practice footage" from late night (early morning) walks around NYC with my trusty GH2, 37mm Mir, Kowa, Redstan clamps and Tokina 0.4 diopter. Hope you like it. http://vimeo.com/55186577
7. Strange problem   I own two GH2 camera bodies, one is about 1 year old, one is just a month old or so, various lenses and am shooting a documentary in Asia (Burma/Thailand/India). Both cameras are hacked with the Vitaliy patch – so as to achieve 44Mbit bitrate as well as the longer shooting time possible – up to two hours. I am having a very curious problem with BOTH my cameras, which I have find very puzzling. I am from the US and am wondering what to do as I have a couple more months of filming to do before heading home. I am about to sit a meditation course, so I have some time to

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V3npOYaktw&feature=player_detailpage     This was my first time shooting with my new hack and I really liked the way it handled shadow, color and motion.   While this was a test in a way, it is also a little more than that becasue it includes mood, character and emotion.   Trey
10. Hi! I wanted to share with you our new channel (which has actually existed for some time now, but it's only now that we've officially launched it). It's a way for us to work on very short narrative videos every week and get to be a little more known on what we do, and specially sharing the stuff we've made and we'll keep on making. There's mostly old shorts by now, the majority of them being comedy and a few drama and action oriented, among others. Still, our strength as a group is comedy and these are some of the highlights (all of them feature English subs, so please enable them if you need
11. Hello all I've got my hands on a GH2 and I was planning on shooting some footage of various LCD screens. This will be custom software in use at specific locations so I can't use Camtasia or similar. Whilst running some tests, I've noticed some severe banding on certain screens. All the screens so far have been 60hz. I've shot in PAL 25fps and NTSC 30fps at both 1/50 and 1/60 (and other shutter speeds) but I can't lose the banding. The frequency of the bands changes but no shutter speed loses it completely. All other settings are either neutral or off i.e. standard mod

14. I'm curious what you guys think. Since it looks like there is a distinct possibility that the GH3 will indeed be inferior in video quality, what will happen to our beloved GH2? A boom in demand? Will retailers quickly burn through their backstock, only to see prices on the secondary market climb higher and higher? Or will the mainstream simply push ahead and leave it forgotten to the past? Pending the actual delivered state of the GH3, will anyone here go out and pickup a backup gh2?
15. Here's a short longboarding video that my friends asked me to film for them earlier this summer. As always, I'd love some feedback! I'm still working on my grading skills with Resolve Lite, and on my grain effect, which Vimeo still doesn't seem to be capable of encoding properly. 17. Fair warning, there's some lens flaring in here but that wasn't the reason I shot this. Honest ;) http://vimeo.com/52214451 [background=rgb(244, 245, 247)]I was about to pack it in because I just didn't find anything interesting to shoot this night, testing out the Century Precision Optics anamorphic adapter with my F2 Nikkor 24mm taking lens, the widest, fastest prime I currently own. I was looking for suitable "horror movie" settings. Then I heard a noise by the front door.[/background] [color
18. Hi all, Wanted to show you guys my latest music video made for the dutch funkgroup Juicy Jones. Shot it on the last sunny day of the summer at a great location just outside of Utrecht. Great fun doing the shoot! I brought along a lot of gear but ultimately opted for simply filming handheld. Opened up my voigtlander between F0.95 and F4 most of the time (using an ND fader) and deliberately tried to overexpose and let the sun flare to get that dreamy summersday vibe. Pretty happy with the result! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTqP_enLUl8 and check out a fun little prologue we m
19. My crusade against color banding on the GH2 continues. The Flowmotion hack (v2.02) minimizes banding as well or better than any hack I have tried, but I still get unusable shots from time to time. Today, I used FCP7's log and transfer to import a single clip with banding issues. Then I used 5DtoRGB to process the same problem clip and exported every possible combination to see if there was a magical setting that would stop color banding altogether. There isn't. But somewhat unsurprisingly, ProRes 4444 / Full Range / ITU-R BT.601 seems to be a significant improvement. Here are the setti
20. Hi guys, I did some test shooting in lowlight and high ISO on my GH2, nothing scientific, just pushing the camera. I noticed a strange dark pattern on the lower half of my footage on high ISO settings. Exactly the same darker line as this guy gets: https://vimeo.com/19563762 Sometimes it's visible, sometimes not, at ISO 2500 or lower it disappears. Is it a faulty sensor or normal behaviour in low light? I use the EOSHD Unified 88Mbit hack.

Film Convert

Hey all, I've been messing around with the demo for this program, and I must say, it's pretty impressive....As an absolute novice at grading, it can certainly get me the look I'm after without much fuss. Too bad they only have a plugin version for the PC. http://www.filmconvert.com/ The company said they've got hold of a GH2 and will be looking at doing a LUT for it... (can't recall where I read it) I'd love to see Andrew do a full-fledged review and put it though it's paces.... Anyone else have any thought

23. Hi everyone, Recently I found a class 10 SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s card at a local store and snatched it up because it was really cheap. I've heard great things about this one and so I thought I'd give it a try in my hacked GH1. I have been using the "100Mbps Max-latitude" patch with a cheap class 10 PNY 20MB/s card and haven't had to many issues. In fact, the only time I ran into an issue is when I tried to run a 720p GOP-1 patch. Had to take the battery out a few times that day. So, I was hoping that with a better card, I could try upping the bitrate even higher or

25. Hi, I'm new to DSLR and HD DSLR photo shooting. Up until now I've being taking HD video with a Sanyo (now Panasonic) HD-2000 - a Full HD camcorder which allegedly can do stills (not good ones..). At the time I had a hard time choosing between the Sharp and the Canon 550D but the fact that I was interested primarily in Video I chose the Sanyo. Over time I accessorized it and even built a DOF adapter for NIKON lens. Now it's time to move on and I feel it's time to revisit the DSLR scene.. (you know DOF, movie style).. I've read a lot of reviews and I pretty muc
