Yurolov got a reaction from zerocool22 in If high mirrorless video specs hurt pro cinema range, why does Sony do it?
As far as I'm aware the A7 series doesn't allow for broadcast codecs. Canon just gave us one, though. If people think the A7 series is in anyway in competition with their pro line then they are sorely mistaken. Let's see what happens to sales of the Fs5 if they give us 10 bit 60p internal as people seem to be thinking they will in the a7siii. They have been protecting their pro line, indisputably so.

I believe no crop unless you are in 4k 60p in which case it is a slight crop. It is a tough one because I think this is the camera everyone wanted the xh1 to be. Sales of that camera should plummet. I think fuji will be forced into bring out an xh2 fairly quickly to the detriment of those who have already invested. It was always a head scratcher when the xh1 came out knowing the xt3 was in the pipeline. I think people should take a wait and see approach with this one as you will probably get 4:2:2 in the xh1 with the ibis. The problem with the fuji system is that there isn't any great stabilised lenses to assist with shakiness. Looking at the cinema 5d footage I can see the wobble.

Really you just have to look how many comments there are on dpreview for this one rumour to realise how popular this thing will be. People don't seem to realise that though this camera may not be the best option for a very niche set of people, if it is priced well, it will be seen as the be all and end all for the majority of people (including vloggers) who are the largest subset of sales. 10bit and no crop is only important to a minority of people. The truth is that the flippy screen, autofocus, color, ergos and touch interface is a lot more important for your run of the mill consumer. Canon knows what's important to the majority of the people. I used to own a 200d (base model dslr) and a a6500. The 200d had a magnificent touch interface like a smartphone. The a6500 felt like it was from the 80s using the interface. Same goes with fuji. For a beginner to intermediate that's what's important, not 10 bit, no crop. I think canon's strategy is correct in that if you truly want good image quality out of a camera you should get a dedicated video camera. Despite everything sony gives you, the image is quite poor when compared to professional cinema cameras (heck, even the pocket cinema camera).  I know, I have seen it projected multiple times on the big screen. What people fail to mention is that yes you may have 4k but the motion cadence, color and highlight roll-off is horrendous. The motion cadence in particular you can't get a feel of until you see it projected. The c300 at 1080p to this date still looks better and you will be able to get it cheaper than a new a7siii. Even if you are doing docs or small productions, the c300 is still better owing to ergonomics. If you need something small, this canon mirrorless is good enough given the ease of use it will afford you. I think canon are still the innovators where it matters.

I agree with that. All I'm saying is that canon is not so bad as others seem to be claiming. In terms of what it is capable of being used for, and what it should be used for, I still think it is the best product on the market.
That's my perception, and those around me, who had the luxury of seeing various cameras projected onto the big screen, including mirroless cameras (5d mark iv and as7ii). You can disagree with me, I don't mind, nor will all those people purchasing this camera.

Nd adaptor is a gamechanger any way you look at it. I know heaps of people have been asking for it, and if they have delivered i see a lot of people switching from sony, even if the a7siii gets 10 bit 60p. You get 4k dual pixel full frame with ibis and canon color (clog doesnt need 10bit) and NDs

I did a little poll with my possibly impossible but still, imo, interesting suggestion.
+1100 votes with 70% thinking it sounds cool.
What if Canon just added a built in optional EVF and called it a day?
First let me say that Im pro mirrorless. I use both extensively as anyone that follows me know.
And we are taking about Fullframe here, leave Fuji and MFT out of it.
In general lenses doesnt get smaller with mirrorless, they get bigger. Its just laws of physics, they just ad extra length to make up for the shorter flange. Unless they have a smaller sensor and/or slower aperture. (They can somewhat get around it with software correction.) So there really isn't any size difference in fullframe worth mentioning once you put on exotic glass. And often it just gets unbalanced in my personal opinion.
Ibis, instant focus in liveview with burst and no blackout, peaking, etc, all that exists in similar sized DSLRs today. The only thing really missing is an EVF. Which at the end of the day is just a "pretend" viewfinder, a tiny screen in a hole.
I'm thinking something pop-up, like in the X-Pro2/x100f. Then you have a true hybrid with the benefits of both systems like the DSLRs extremely fast AF and OVF, even in dim light. Also, then they can simply keep the EF mount which have exotic f1.2 lenses already.
Just a thought, not even sure if its possible

Because the new mount will use a combination of ospdaf and cdaf which needs new lens motors to work efficiently. The existing EF lenses are designed with motors solely for pdaf. They will work fine on the new mount but wont be as fast as combination cfaf/ospdaf lenses. Also the existing pdaf EF lenses are unlikely to work as well with ospdaf as an existing dedicated pdaf array that you get on a dslr especially in lowlight - that is because the pdaf sensors cant be made as large on the sensor as off the sensor in a dedicated array.
It cant really be the other way round as the ef-m flang distance to sensor is 18mm - a 1cm adapter would put it 8mm away.

Then stay with the pocket  This looks pretty high-end to me. The color is certainly better than the Panasonic variants of this sensor. I am actually quite impressed. Given the price, so far the images more than match some of the higher end cameras, unless you are being extremely picky (looking for details in extreme shadows), which to me is nonsense.

Seems curious they are including a hdmi cable with the camera. Intriguing as to what this might mean for output specs for video and video IQ in general. Maybe they will be able to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat!
