F4 Dof is plenty for that lens and docu work. The light gathering is the important part as it means you can leave the lens on day into night and have that amazing range for run and gun.

Super 35mm 4K DGO sensor (same as the Cinema EOS C300 Mark III)
    No IBIS
    RF Mount
    Internal ND (10 Stops)
    CLog 2 & CLog 3
4:2:2 10bit onto SD cards up to 4K120 and 2K180
No RAW capability internally at launch
    BP-A batteries
    Price: $6299 USD

Supposedly these are the leaked specs making the rounds on the internet.
$6299 for 10 bit 4K 120 and Canon colors or $3500 for 10 bit 4K 120 and zombie skintones you gotta fiddle around with masks and cc for hours everytime there's a face in the frame.

Maybe panasonic is content with their 5% of the market. Or they are listening to the “real professionals” who are telling them AF is for amateurs and little kids and “real professionals” like to use their wrists 👋💦

So...let me play the devil's advocate here and make sure nothing is being overlooked with Andrew's latest test:
Do we know with absolute certainty that Canon is using the EXIF temperature data to determine when to shut down the camera? For example, what if there is a temperature sensor on the back of the sensor itself? That sensor is floating w/o a heat sink. It very well could overheat while the remainder of the camera stays warm but not hot. It appears wifi was enabled during the test. This typically generates more heat. Why did temperatures remain constant while wifi was operating. I would think they would rise even in a fridge. Again, are we missing some other temperature sensor in this camera other than what's being reported by EXIF data? Andrew states "Overheat control was turned off in the menus, as I find it makes little difference to video mode and shouldn’t be needed in a fridge."  I don't understand why this option was turned off. Why not give the camera every opportunity not to overheat when in stand-by mode? Please note: I'm not trying to stir the pot here. Just trying to do a check-and-balances to make sure the test hasn't overlooked some other possibilities. Troubleshooting requires reducing the number of variables.

This is what happens if you just read off a specs sheet. The 8bit of the c200 is very, very good and will give you a great image.

Some of these comments are just hard to fathom. These comparison on spec sheet vs spec sheet are getting a little out of control. The C300 absolutely destroys the A7s3. One is a cinema camera, the other is a small mirrorless. The R300 at $6,299 Is a steal. I’m assuming people here have never used a canon cinema camera, because visually and ergonomically, it’s night and day. Add XLR, ND filter, better color, better actual DR (not spec sheet DR), a cooling fan, etc. On top of that the new sensor in the c300 is absolutely fantastic. Not everything can be compared in a spec sheet. There are phones that do 4K 60 and they still look like a phone shot the footage. An A7s3 is great for what it is, but it is not a cinema camera

If their camera division is not successful they will - just like with their laptops. Their is an argument to be made that the old camera companies will stay in the game longer out of a sense of Japanese obligation but you can see even olympus relented.

Meanwhile samsung is narrowing the gap to sony in cmos market share.
And samsung continues expanding imaging as well: https://petapixel.com/2020/06/01/samsung-is-ramping-up-image-sensor-production-again/
Samsung had the best sensors in the nx1 but bailed because they saw the writing on the wall. I wouldn't bet against them here.

Yurolov reacted to Andrew Reid in Let's talk about Sony A7S III overheating
A comment on Hugh's YouTube video explains why the testing needs to be more thorough.
Most of the reviews were put out in a hurry and don't tell the whole story on the A7S III thermal limitations.
Hugh: I am an Electrical Engineer of 30+ years designing electronics for the automotive world which must maintain operation (NO shutdown) to 85C (185F) and without permanent damage over 100C (212F). The trunk of any car in Phoenix, Houston, or Florida (where I live) will easily exceed 140F for 6 months of the year. I contacted Dan and expressed my concerns with some test errors he made, his interpretations regarding heating/damaging of electronics in general, plus other variables reviewers continue to miss. It looks like you are trying to make some honest assessments here but there are a multitude of variables here that you (and others) are still missing. I don’t think Dan took my suggestions well so I will try you. As you noted, and I pointed out to Dan, internal heat generation (radiation) is outbound as well as thermal absorption (inbound). There are actually THREE thermal tests that must be made to determine if the camera is a net “source” or a “sink”; (1) standard room temp of 23C (73F), (2) outdoor/hi-temp under “sun-load”, but also CRITICAL is (3) which is simply outdoor/hi-temp in the shade! This shade reference is CRITICAL since this test will tell you if the thermal failure is absorption (inbound) vs. radiation (outbound) induced. You MUST do this third test or you cannot make ANY conclusions on thermal propagation of the camera. No reviewer is understanding this point since they are not Engineers. I get that but then they extrapolate conclusions which are simply wrong – some favoring Sony and Canon and some against both brands. Until you have a FLIR type camera showing thermal mapping of the body (AND the body/lens SYSTEM), you really don’t have any idea where the heat source/problem area is located. It is simply assumed to be worst on the back side since this is what Photographers look at all the time. It may be on the bottom or on the sides – no one knows until you look for it at least with some JK type thermocouples.

Could it be firmware (intentional cripple?)? As if the card is inside but it is recording externally surely there shouldn't be any difference to when the card is removed?

I've seen elsewhere users state CF cards just get warm from having them in a camera that's on, not even writing to them.

Canon sell this very heavily as a hybrid, seamlessly switching between modes. The idea when you want to switch between stills / video you have to change out cards and attach an external recorder makes a mockery of that claim. As others have said, also puts more pressure on micro HDMI port, constant switching in and out. The design is poor. Period.

Doesn't change the fact this guy is a liar - making statements he cannot back up. Here he is saying an external recorder solves 4K on the R5.

You're the one with comprehension issues - in the video above he was forced to state what settings he used in the comments below. I quote him:

"4K HQ, 23.98p, IBIS on, AF ON, ALL-I (even though that doesn't matter in this case)."
He also says in the video using an external recorder 'solves' 4K on the R5. This is an outright lie - he hasn't tested it at the higher frame rates. You can't trust a word he says if he's prepared to lie like this.

Look at the pretty much universal praise for Gerald's video. I know who I trust rather than this liar.

You must have comprehension issues. Direct from the video descriptions, and also posted like 20 seconds in:
"The Canon R5 does not seem to overheat, externally, if you don't have any cards in the camera. In this video I show (with as much proof as I can), how I'm able to record up to 4 hours in 4KHQ 30fps, 10-bit CLOG, with IBIS and DPAF all on, with no issues like the blackout or screen off issue myself and Gerald were having."
I'm all for bashing the camera, but if you want to do it at least be right.

This guy neglected to mention in the video he shot at 24p, not the higher frame rates. Then he had to add an update that other people were using recorders and getting overheating.

So then when people talk about arri colors or red colors. That's all shill is it? There is nothing cinematic about those images? There is nothing cinematic about the old ccd raw cameras like the digital bolex? - that's shill too if I say that I prefer the bolex image to the sterile image of a sony?
You won't get one mirrorless camera that even gets close to the look of something like an arri.
Over-sharpened, bad skin tones, terrible under mixed lighting.
If we take your statement to its logical conclusion you would have to agree that there is no difference between the image of a a7siii and a7iii. That I can agree with.

We have already seen some AB tests of the a7s and R6. The colours aren't THAT different. I think you're all kidding yourselves when you say it has a colour problem. I am unbiased as I don't own or intend to  own either cams or anything like them.  If you're not seeing good colour from a7s videos then it is the fault of the colour grader. And  "thick colour" is the same nonsense as what photographers call "3d pop".  You're just reaching for terminology to reinforce/shill your idea. It's possible to see thick colour as you're grading a file but not just based off seeing the final product.

I feel like it is too good to be true as well, I'm just not yet sure what the catch is.
For the external RAW question I am sure Atomos will make something that will work. I think the HDMI 2.0 standard was holding it back but with HDMI 2.1 they just need to release some new HW.

I'll just come out and say it...I don't like Sony's cameras. I picked one up at a display case in a store once and it felt so cheap and plasticky that I have never given them another chance, the ergonomics were terrible, and the menus were even worse. I'm sure they have improved a lot since then but by now I have plenty of Canon glass, I love the Canon gear I have and if this camera doesn't disappoint and fits comfortably on my Ronin S it is a no brainer for me.
