Amazeballs reacted to crevice in Canon open to adding BRAW to Canon R, R5, and R6
A new tweet by canon rumors, who I find the most reliable of all rumor sites, says that Canon is open to adding BRAW to their R series cameras.
This would be the biggest company to add BRAW to their cameras other than blackmagic themselves. It doesn’t matter if you care about these Canon cameras or not, every single person should be rooting for this to happen, because if Canon adds it, it forces the hand for Sony, Panasonic, Fuji, etc to add it as well. And when that happens, we all win. BRAW is our only choice for some sort of compressed RAW, because of REDs patent ruining the party. BRAW in more cameras means cheaper media, easier editing, color grading, etc. So, make some noise so canon knows we want this or whomever your favorite brand is. Sites like this one have pushed brands to be better and right now, they are listening and we need to continue to be loud. BRAW should be in every single camera that takes video seriously.

DEALBREAKER ALERT. A 15000$ 2020 MAC PRO cannot play back in real time the R5 footage. Does not matter Premiere Pro Resolve, FCPX. Nothing works even 4K30p won’t play in a high end 2020 MacbookPro.
The reason which he does not say in his video but I know is 422. HVEC is supported by latest hardware but not HVEC 422 so it’s like at the beginning of the HVEC codec when hardware acceleration was not supported.
Your 15K computer cannot edit the footage, but within a year or 2 when computers support 10 bit 422 HVEC correctly a 1000$ laptop will edit it better than your MacPro. In the meantime, we are screwed.

IMHO the GH6 could be a seriously formidable camera with just a few good tweaks to the sensor and PDAF. If it only does 4k at upto 120fps (and perhaps 1080p at 240fps), has atleast 1 stop better dynamic range for video, has 14-bit RAW photo and about 1.5-2 stops of better low light, it should be more than sufficient for the next generation of filmmakers and usable for another 3-4 years. Having RAW via HDMI or having some flavour of internal compressed RAW (BRAW) would be great. 8k is just overkill, causing the camera to turn into a barbeque machine and eating unnecessarily into memory. Plus good 4k can easily be upressed to 8k, if one absolutely needs it (which is like not right now).
The colour science and highlight handling need tweaking and the VLog L needs to go.
Luckilg it doesn't suffer from overheating, and so many othe issues. Panasonic should keep the price as low or lower than the GH5.  They could do this by re-using the GH5's basic body structure (or using the G9's body structure) and re-use some of the hardware. If they get PDAF, and these features, and the GH6 is priced at $1500-1750, it could easily eat into everyone else's market.
Both size and price of the M43 has become difficult to justify after the launch of the A7III and the XT3, and the ever increasing size of M43 bodies (1DX and G9) and lenses (all the Olympus f1.2 pro primes). Suddenly $2000 seems like a good price for many cameras. Blackmagic makes great cameras, but they lack reliability, weather-sealing, decent battery life, IBIS, decent autofocus. Also the 5 inch screen seems like a wasted effort if it cannot be seen during the day. Panasonic just needs to consolidate its video prowess.

Amazeballs reacted to rawshooter in Canon EOS R5 overheating vs Panasonic S1H and Sigma Fp designs
The likely reason is that Canon design and manufactures its own chips/electronics, and that its chip technology is old and not on the level of contemporary chip manufacturing of 14nm or less.
Bigger structures/more nanometers mean: less power efficiency, more heat production. (That's why smartphones, using the latest and smallest chip technology, are so incredibly powerful at low electricity consumption and low heat dissipation.)
Panasonic, as much bigger electronics manufacturer, has access to more modern chip technology. They likely also manufacture the electronics of the Sigma fp (since they also manufacture the electronics of Leica cameras, and since the fp uses a Panasonic battery).
This is also the reason why Canon's self-manufactured sensor chip are behind in performance to Sony's.

What all this overheating going on, people tend to look over the fact that the footage and the IBIS actually looks really good. ISO is a noticeable improvement, too.

The rolling shutter is not great (as expected).

If you want longer recording times, you probably want the R5 over the R6.

Personally for me I hate Sony mirrorless estetics - ergonomics, ancient menus, overall design, using same bodies for almost 10 years, etc. They only improve sensors cos they build them as well. And those sensors are awesome - there is no doubt in that. But I might still go Canon R6 route cos its a ergonomically better camera with awesome IBIS (probably, we need to see some actual tests) and I do like how RF lenses are shaping up. Panasonic is another awesome camera company with their ongoing AF problem, sadly.

Questions that come to mind are the obvious, and a few not so obvious.
What is the future of the GH line and MFT?  Will there be a GH6, and if so, when?
Will Panasoninc implement RAW in their cameras?
Will we ever get great AF in their cameras?
How will they respond to the R5 and the upcoming Sony A7S II successor?
Why does the GH5 require a paid upgrade to receive vLog, when a much cheaper camera like the G100 gets it for free?
Will possible future cameras like the GH6 and S2 require paid updates for extra functions?  What is the criteria in selecting what is a paid upgrade and what is free.  Given for example Blackmagic gave users a free upgrade for BRAW.
How does Panasonic feel the loss of Olympus affect their investment in MFT?

How does the situation with Olympus impact Panasonic's commitment to M43?
Is there a reason why they've stuck with DFD for auto focus in video, even as competitors have moved away from it?
Do they plan to continue to have two branches of the GH series moving ahead?

Amazeballs reacted to IronFilm in Which microphone\recorder setup to use for hidden camera type of recording?
Big Brother (and other similar reality productions) have:
A purposely setup set for filming on (so it will hopefully be fairly quiet! Unlike when trying to get stealth recordings in open busy streets, yikes, that's noisy)
All the talent wearing neck mics.
Additional, they've likely put in a massive amount of work in carefully placing plant mics throughout the set.

All of this isn't a possibility for @Amazeballs

. Go for the Tascam DR10L (if you can't wait for the Tentacle Sync Track E), it is better than a phone with a lav because:
    Locking connector.
    Dual/safety level recordings.
    Better form factor.

Especially for your purposes, either of those first two factors might come in super handy to save your ass.

Thus my (almost) "no budget" recommendation for you, as the best of the worst options is this:
Get a Tascam DR10L (or the Sync Track E if you can at all wait!), plus a 2nd DR10L (or Sync Track E) that you use as a "plant mic" that the interviewer carries with them.

Ideas of where you could "plant" it:
Inside a fake coffee cup? (as even if they're only holding the coffee cup a couple of feet away from their body, and closer to the subject, every inch counts!)
The edge of a clipboard? (you could likely get the far side edge of the clipboard even closer than a coffee cup would)
The point of an umbrella or the handle?

If you can handle hiding the bulk, then a Tascam DR10X (or Deity HD-TX if you need P48) with a better mic than a lav would be an even better solution!

This would require a lot of ingenuity on your part, coming up with a stealth way to hide this "plant mic" carried by the interviewer that is congruent with the style of the shoot. Every production is different.

Likewise, you're going to need a skilled interviewer who is on their toes and committed to this as well. No point craftily hiding a mic built into a clipboard, only to have them be holding the clipboard hanging uselessly from their side. That would sound even worse from the subject than the interviewer's own lav!!

Zoom's crappy add-ons should not influence your decision.
And the screen doesn't matter 99% of the time, as the talent is wearing the bodypack.

You'll change your mind about the benefits of timecode syncing when you're got hundreds of hours of footage across many days worth of recording to sync up manually. That's a recipe straight from hell.

Sorry but I guess your ivory tower medical research bias is showing, in the real world this methodology for production can be surprisingly common. Especially on the likes of a documentary (and other forms of productions too, there are adverts made like this, or news comedy shows). Quite usual to have a field producer (or even just a PA) run after a person to get permission from them. (and of course, if you don't get permission, then you can't show them) They'll chase them down even in circumstances when it was extremely obvious you were filming them, such as when a cam op with a FS7 is in clear view nearby (or heck, the reporter is using a stick mic!). The reason is because you don't want to interrupt the natural flow by stopping the action to get signatures on release forms, you let it play out first and then you immediately follow up.

There would have been countless adverts made for many different brands exactly like this. Asking what they prefer, then getting permission after filming.  (although yes, there would be productions too which ask beforehand. Just depends on the agency/director/brief/etc as to what works best)

I am sure. What ethical issues?
After the recording the ppl are being informed that they've been recorded and asked for permission to use the video. If they refuse their faces would be blurred.
