I think this overheating is getting over exagerated. I read a guy was shooting all day long didnt get overheated once.

Oh, there's really no reason for childish fan generalization sort of like/dislike - most of us don't complain at all, nor anything here deserves any such emotion (at least from me). It is quit possible at the same time to enjoy in coming of advanced technology and to note some common sense problem in real world usage... what exactly motivated this thread, as far as I understand.
After all arguments, critics and applause for effort or step further in technology, the question, I believe, for most of us interested in matter will be simple: to spend sum of 4-5000 euro here or somewhere else? Judging from my humble criteria of projected opportunities (and zero interest in photography) - at the moment I'd spend this sum just for one really video/indiemovie workhorse, which R5 apparently is not if overheating danger/distraction exists even at base 4k raw shooting level. Someone else (probably with more free money at disposal) will greatly enjoy in different aspects of R5 offer, and it's apparently also well founded choice.

I think you'll find others here shoot as a fulltime job too.  😉
Canon hasn't given people want they want.  I don't recall people asking for 8K RAW.  In fact, 4K RAW is arguably needed far more than 8K RAW.  I don't recall peole asking for clip limits, overheating issues.  In fact, Canon users have always spoken against Sony cameras for overheating, praising Canon for not chasing gimmicks whilst taking their time and releasing a reliable camera to use.  Very few asked to lose that for the sake of 8K.
I'm not denying this is an innovative camera that is pushing what technology can do.  I've no doubt it will be a great tool for photographers who are also shooting the odd video and videographers who are primarily shooting short clips.  Most cameras has issues of some sort or another.  I use the Pocket 4K a lot.  No flip screen,  no IBIS, no AF to speak of and no weather sealant.  Its not a perfect camera.  Neither is the R5.

Of all the cameras already mentioned that also take photos and fit your budget, the Fuji XT3 wipes the floor with the rest if video is important to you (imo). It doesn't have IBIS though

The fact of the matter is that in 2020, 4K RAW with no overheating would be much more useful for many professionals and the high resolution sensors should be given to specialty lines and not the workhorse FF body.
Now you have a superb stills camera, that will suffer from sub-optimal 4K modes and a "halo" 8K (RAW) mode that is going to be to burdensome for a lot of users to take full advantage off.

My beef is with the pricing not the camera itself - I know you can avoid tax in lots of the U.S. by buying from a different state.
I don't understand why Canon has priced this at £4200 here in the UK when it is $3900 in the U.S (£3082). That is a huge difference.
In comparison the Panasonic S1H is £3600 in the UK, $4000 in the U.S. (£3162). Still paying more here in the UK but not such a huge difference

From the full lens lineup image its definitely retractable. Given the body + lens weights I disagree about anything m43 being competitive, not with a 45-mp sensor behind the Canon lens, compared to 20mp max on m43, and the rumored high rez R body in the pipeline widens that gap even further. And these can take the 1.4x and 2x TC's that will be announced. Between the cropping ability and the TC's, this is an amazing amount of reach for such a small package. I spent a few months in Africa exploring wildlife parks, this would have been in my pack if available. Plus f/11 AF, the R5 will focus in much lower light. Personally I find the 100-500 with TC's more interesting. But a hand holdable 800mm lens, amazing.

From the looks of it the DR on the 1DXmk3 is a bit less than the Panasonic S1H which was measured at 12.7 stops DR by Cinema 5d. This was using 10 bit log on the Panasonic compared to RAW on the Canon - will be interesting to see  if the upcoming RAW update will increase the S1H's DR even more

Man, yeah. Lots of complex emotion on this for me over the last week. I’m a white Minnesotan, working 6 days a week even during COVID-19... I thought about photographing/video documenting, and I agree it is incredibly important work and that things must be seen.

But my heart is broken. Just straight ripped apart. I just got home from two days In Minneapolis/St. Paul, and I’m glad I didn’t bring a camera, and I left my phone in my bag. There’s a LOT of I guess I’d call it “social justice tourism” going on, and that just sits uneasy with me. Like, people were posing with their friends and signs for selfies, and then leaving the sit-in at the capitol before it was done... even more selfies with the George Floyd mural at Cup Foods. Don’t get me wrong, it is good that those people are at least engaging on some level, but social media is already drowning in this stuff at the moment, that isn’t necessarily an efficient vehicle for change.

I don’t need pictures to communicate what I’ve seen with my own eyes. I saw the entire capitol lawn filled to bursting with beautiful peaceful people all afternoon, championing full institutional overhaul of the oppressive system... which by the way was organized and led by FREAKING HIGHSCHOOL STUDENTS, who were all more articulate than yours truly.

I worked alongside hundreds of my fellow Minnesotans ALL DAY yesterday as we packed food and household supplies for our neighbors in need. We were tired. We were drenched in sweat. It was beautiful. Emotions, events, words and actions are in the highest contrast in this moment.

Sometimes you’ve gotta leave the camera behind and commit your full self to being present. And I must say this: while the news has been reporting both the peaceful protests and the unrest, the time devoted to each is woefully disproportionate to the time Minnesotans have been devoting to each. Yes there has been some destruction and some violence. But there is an immeasurably larger effort of peaceful demand for justice.

Heres the only picture from today, snapped by a construction worker on an adjacent building and texted to one of the church food drive organizers. All of those bags of groceries were gone within half an hour. The need is real, but Minnesotans are rising to the occasion, government or no government.

After firmware 2.0 I see less reasons to do so. Would love some more less cropped high frame rate options.
Overall 2.0 is quite impressive for V-Log.

    Magenta tint seems gone
Orange/yellow lights won't burst into noise anymore
Sharpening seems to be turned off
Noise reduction -1 fixes the motion related issues, also much nicer grain pattern which matches the framerate (temporal NR seems to be gone entirely)

A lot of us can’t help it! It’s a human tendency to want the next best thing and never be happy with what we have.
To be honest I had a itch to pull out my wallet and replace my GH5S...XT-4? S1H?... Then this global pandemic hit and quarantine happened. We also decided to move and sell our house so I naturally grabbed my camera and documented it.
To be honest the more I was creative with my camera the more I enjoyed using it to create something. The image with V-LogL is quite fantastic. I decided to use Buttery LUTs in an attempt to just shoot and focus my attention on exposure and white balance and not mess around too much in post (Some screenshots below).
We don't think about the specs of our hammer when we use it, we think about what we are making with it.
So that's the mentality I'm going remind myself to use.
Some other conclusions: I am 100% convinced I prefer glidecam/shoulder strap stabilization and locked-off tripod shots over a gimbal (so I'm selling my dusty Weebill S).
